:banghead:It IS a bug, BIS have confirmed it themselves.
Where?
-
What the hell are people smoking in this thread?
Mouselag is a 'bug' in Arma2? Don't be so preposterous, it's not a 'bug' it's a byproduct of performance.
On a mid-range PC fire Crysis Warhead up, stick all the in-game settings on the highest they will go, get a sniper rifile, zoom in and then tell me that mouse-lag is a 'bug'.
It's 100%, no-doubt-about-it related to your in-game settings VS your PC spec. That's it! Nothing more nothing less.
Now, if BIS patch in some performance fixes for Arma2, you may see your 'lag' reduced but only as a byproduct of the performance fixes. Not because they devs have magically put a specific 'mouse-lag bug fix' in there.

It should be pretty obvious that I meant vehicles that are POSSIBLE to board because I already mentioned that my human team mates are able to board. I never complained about not being able to board CERTAIN vehicles. I'm complaining about AI's refusing to sit IN vehicles that I'M already in!Sorry if the term "ghhhhheyyy" offends you that much that u fail to read my post. But I have every right to feel annoyed by something and call it "gay" or "really f-ing gheeyyy". Just ask the billions of FPS gamers who use that term in a daily basis.
Great! Gotta love that "If millions of other people do it, it must be ok!" line.
I really don't want to get bogged down in this but 'ghey' stems from 'gay' and no matter how much you want to try and downplay it, you're associating being homosexual with something negative.
Here's a thought (if you can manage one), why not try and be your own person rather than following and copying what 'billions' of FPS gamers do. Yeah?
-
Where in my thread did I mention anything about tankers or soldiers being able to pilot aircraft?? READ THE POST before you comment please, this is about AIs getting STUCK. Kids today huh? No wonder they don't read books, they dont even have the patience to read and fully understand a single forum post!
The answer is right there in your first 'post'.
Some AI are 'anal' about getting into certain positions because they're not 'qualified' to sit in the position that you're trying to get them into.
You didn't provide any detail whatsoever about the circumstances in which the AI refused to do as you ordered. Were you trying to get a pilot to go gunner in a tank? Were you trying to get a tank commander go pilot in a chopper?
See, here's the thing. Keep on target, ignore your rather obvious homophobic rants and provide 'details'. This is a troubleshooting forum, after all and troubleshooting doesn't tend to get off on a good start if all you feel you have to do is bold 'ghhhhhheeeeeeyyyy' across your post.
Twod.

Hey all,Been trying to tweak arma2 for a while as i have a fairly old rig, Athlon X2 4200+ OC'd to 2.6Ghz, 4Gig of ram and an 8800GTS.
Obviously it played like a dog at first but it's getting there slowly!!! I've tried just about everything including 1.03 to get to this point.
I have windows 7 on one hard drive, arma 2 on a seconf.
Just today i tried moving the windows pagefile to a third disk. Windows recommended 4822MB so i set it to that as a fixed size.
My FPS has jumped, from previously mid 10s (15/16/etc) near towns to a fairly steady 20+. I was shocked to finally hit 25 in the forests with my team running around me. The intro screen even hit 70 at one stage (barely got near 60 before) so i'm sure there's a boost in this tweak :D
I have shadows on v.high, textures on v.high, post processing on v.high and everything else on normal or low, at 1280x800. View distance is only ~1 mile though but it's better than nothing :/
This pagefile thing on a different disk might be worth a try for others?!?
You must remember though that the pagefile, like all data on your harddrive will over time become fragmented and 'dirty'. This is why rebuilding it can sometimes give a sharp increase in system performance but over time it can drop back down to where it was.
Putting the pagefile onto a different physical drive to the OS and the game install is the best possible thing to do but you then need to keep on top of maintaining your system and keep the drive with the pagefile clean of rubbish, regularly checked and regularly defragged.

I'm so fucking sick of having to restart games just because my fellow human team mates happen to board a vehicle first thus causing some of the AI team mates just to get completely stuck and unable to board!! This happens in both coop campaign and coop MP.Why the hell are some AIs just so anal about wanting to sit in a certain position??
I really don't know what else to say about this annoying bug except that it's GHHHHHHHHEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!
Spoken like a true BF2 trooper. I mean, it's just soooo stupid how a tank commander can't pilot a chopper....
-
You're right, it is indeed a temperature warning :) as soon as temp monitor #1 gets to 60, it beeps. Which officially makes ArmA2 the most CPU intensive program I have, which is weird as I use all kinds of intensive apps and none of them has ever stressed the system like armA2.. (Ones that use multi-cores too :))That, or your CPU cooling is inadequate.
Monitoring CPU temps on Arma2 for me never sees them go over 50 degrees.

I have been noticing some texture weirdness (white textures, flickering etc) since 1.03 and just thought I'd check my arma2.cfg file. With version 1.02 I would set my texture memory to "default" which would give me around 512mbs in the CFG... accurate for my dual 8800GT set up.Since 1.03 I see that my video card memory is showing up as 255mb in the CFG file, still using "default" as set in game. I tried switching from "default" to "very high" and it's stays at 255mb. Even switching to "low" in-game texture memory leaves the ArmA2.cfg at 255mb. I've double checked and no, my CFG file is not set to read only.
Can someone else check and see if this is happening with them as well, so I can sort out if this is just me or not? I'm going to attempt setting it manually then setting it to read only and see what happens.
datter
I know exactly what the problem is.
Arma2 cannot detect that you have a valid Arma2 SLI profile in your Nvidia drivers.
I had exactly the same problem with the 295 and even going so far as reformatting and reinstalling the OS did not solve it. I eventually fixed it by using the drivers suggested by Windows Update.
All I can say is, good luck. I spent at least a couple of solid evenings trying to get mine working.

Is there a way to force ARMA2 to use audio hardware acceleration? Or to force use of 3D sound at all for a 2 speaker setup?Right now ARMA2 is plain stereo.. I don't have any audio directional awareness other than left and right, it's not good enough.
My soundcard (Audigy) isn't the youngest on the market but it does its job in all other games. For instance, in ARMA demo i've enabled audio HW acceleration and it works fine there. I can hear what's in front of me, and what behind me very clearly.
I have positional audio working without a problem.
Try checking your Windows sound settings and make sure you have surround enabled and not two-speaker. Also try running the Creative tests to make sure surround is working out-game.

Anyone have some settings i should use in diskeeper 2009/UltimateDefrag/PerfectDisk for ArmA2?Thanks :)
EDIT: What's the best defrag for Windows Vista?
For Ultimate Defrag the only settings are to push the entire Arma2 install folder into High Performance.
Also make sure that your page file is in High Performance too. There's not much more you can do, beyond that.

So,is dsync a server problem or is it all about my connection?
Thank you , guys.
Dysnc, in my experience has always been two things...
A) When first joining a game, you can show as having high desync until your connection things settle into a place. IIRC, this is a known problem with joining MP games in Arma2 at the moment and not only affects the joining player but also affects all others (depending on how full the game is)
and
B) When the server is simply overworked, normally with AI. If it can't keep up with the processing, everything grinds to a massive, horrible desync'd halt. Server restarts normally fix this...for a while, until it happens again.

Go away for gawd's sake.Do you not understand that it's 2 midrange cards bolted together? That's why 2 x 280/285 creams it. It is not really "single card" and it's only real advantage is that it uses less power than 2 seperate cards.
and enjoy ignore :)
I'm not derailing this any further.
Eth
Ignore me all you like, it's normally the action of a forum user who's backed into a corner with their own bullshit and has nowhere else to go.
I've already disproven your "it's only two 260s" because the 295 actually uses a mixture of 260 and 280 spec.
And you still haven't shared your oracle-like vision with us all, regards what you class as a 'high spec' card if a 295 is only 'medium spec'.
Enjoy your blissful ignorance, i'm sure there are a lot of other posters on these boards that wish you'd ignore them too so you wouldn't keep on sticking your nose into other peoples threads with nothing but drivel about how they've 'over spent' and yet 'under specced'.
Muppet.
---------- Post added at 03:54 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:52 PM ----------
This is quite entertaining. Eth is arguing that the 260 is mid-range (which it is) and PP is arguing that the 295 is high range (which it is) so where's the argument again?---------- Post added at 12:46 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:45 AM ----------
I'm sure it's been noted that not everyone playing on a 295, or even a 295 with an i7 is having the same issues... btw
It's patently obvious that he's very bitter about other posters spec. I mean, he doesn't even own a 295, or even a 285 and yet he knows absolutely everything about why a 295 is 'medium spec' without telling us all what card trumps a 295.
Complete joker.
-
It is midrange tech. If you actually knew anything about the hardware you bought, you'd know that. Now you're attacking my specs? Jealous much?
I'm not embittered about anyone's specs. I am, however, getting a little sick and tired of people blaming BIS for something that I sincerely doubt has anything to do with them.
Judging by your knowledge of sound hardware (or distinct lack thereof), you shouldn't be telling anyone about PC hardware.
Thanks
Eth
LOL!
So lets hear then, if the 295 is 'mid-range' what is 'high-range'? I'll tell you right now that my 295 blows a 280 clean out of the water. So im very eager to hear what your obviously solid hardware experience has to say on the matter.
"Speaking of performance crowns, if there's a dual-slot, dual-GPU, single-card performance crown, then the GeForce GTX 295 has snagged that one. The GTX 295 is an even more extreme solution than the 285, obviously, but it's the class of the exotics."
I so dearly like to hear what you would class as a superior card to the 295, so let us all hear it.
And, for the record BIS should have absolutely been testing Arma2 with a 295. They clearly did not. If they had, they could have contacted Nvidia much earlier and reported potential problems with the SLI profiles. They did not. They should shoulder some of the blame for this.
-
Thanks for the info :rolleyes:Newsflash : Most games worked fine on my dual 9800GX2 setup at the time. A few didn't, FC2 being the most prolific offender, and it was TOTALLY down to Nvidia.
I don't consider the 295 to be "good kit". It's 2 x 260's. The 260 is a midrange card.
I wasn't lecturing btw, just stating facts.
Eth
orly?
"The Nvidia GeForce GTX 295 dual-GPU graphics card features 1792MB of memory which corresponds to the memory capacity of two GeForce GTX 260 boards. However, unlike the Radeon HD 4870 X2 which is literally two Radeon HD 4870 products stuck together, the GeForce GTX 295 seems to be more of a hybrid, sharing specs of both GeForce GTX 260 and 280 products."
Bottom line is this. I play every single game that I own on almost maximum graphics settings at 1920x1200, including Crysis and Crysis Warhead. The only limitation being the level of AA that I put on there as well.
So what if a 'few' games cause some aggravation? Welcome to the world of PC gaming, my friend.
Oh and for some laffs, lets hear what your opinion on "good kit" graphics cards is, because i'd dearly like to hear what you think outperforms a "medium range" card like a 295, LMFAO.
Also, what I do find very interesting is that you seem to pop up in threads about other peoples high-spec kit, seemingly trying to down-play any investment onto what is widely regarded as "good kit". You come across as someone very embittered by the spec of other posters, to the degree that i'd doubt any of what you have in your spec is actually true.
More likely you invested in hardware a little too early, are now regretting it and take every opportunity you can to diss what is clearly "good kit" owned by other people.
-
Well, you're not going to.Talk to Nvidia about your "2 in 1" card. There is no doubt in my mind that the problem lies with that card specifically.
FC2 was the same thing with Nvidia's last "2 in 1" card (9800GX2). 3 months for working drivers.
The fact that you opted to spend a lot of money is YOUR problem, not Bohemia's.
Eth
Oh please, a tiny handful of games have SLI profile problems with dual cards and thats why a top-end card like the 295 is 'flawed'?
Newsflash! I have dozens if not hundreds of PC games, covering a massive spectrum of genres and the only game that has caused me any amount of aggravation to date has been Arma2.
I don't doubt that driver problems contribute to issues. Not at all. But please spare us the lecture about how spending money on good kit is the reason for all the problems that we'll see in games. It's complete rubbish.

Hey all,
I only seem able to get my Arma2 dedicated server onto 'the web' by placing the PC it's hosted on into the routers DMZ.
I've messed about with port forwarding for what seems like hours, without success.
From what I can tell, all I really need to do is open UDP 2032-2035 for all the PCs on my network. I realise that I can specify which of my PCs but just as a baseline I wanted to keep things very simple but its just not working at all.
LAN lookups are obviously ok and thanks to the Arma2 client being 'clever' I can also see the server whilst on the Internet server lookup page (thanks for that, BIS....so handy when troubleshooting). However, when I perform a direct server hookup via IP address and port, nothing is returned.
When I stick the PC into the DMZ, its definitely reporting to Gamespy as my ping goes up between LAN and direct IP lookups.
Any ideas? My router is a D-Link DI-524 and the only firewall options I have beyond Enabled and Allow/Deny are...
Source Interface: *, LAN or WAN. I assume * is all? I've tried both that and LAN.
Destination Interface: As above but i'd assume for a server this isn't used at all.
Protocol: *, TCP or UDP. I've tried both * and UDP
Port Range: Ive tried just 2302 and 2302-2305

I always wondered if putting -config=E:\Arma2\server.cfg was necessary (I just use -config=server.cfg). You said it is same folder right? And if the server name is in the cfg, is it necessary to put -name=PlowjoysServerName in the shortcut? I wouldn't think so. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I think for you question to be answered your need to show some of your cfg. Here is one of my servers for an example.
hostname="Moshland MP Mission Depot"; password=""; passwordAdmin="xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"; reportingIP="arma2.master.gamespy.com"; logFile="server_console.log";
Yeah, it's my first pass at setting up so a lot is just copy/paste from KH. I'll refine the duplications down as I go.
It's working now. Was just spaces in the path to the configs. I've relocated them to the root of the install drive now. Could have quoted them too, either would work.
Cheers for the help!

Hi all,
Ok, so i've read through the KH guide to prepping a new Arma2 server and am at the stage where I can run it and see the server in my in-game browser.
I've created the server.cfg and put it in the root of the Arma2 install location alongisde the Arma2Server.exe. In the server.cfg i've named my server, provided a requirement for passwords to login, etc.
However, there's a problem. Whenever I run my arma2 dedicated server, the server 'name' is my computer name. Furthermore I can connect to the server without specifying a password. All via LAN.
Obviously this points to a startup problem, reading the server.cfg file. I've triple checked that i'm specifying it, via the batch-file to start the arma2 server, as follows...
-config=E:\Arma2\server.cfg
In addition to that, im also specifying the arma2 dedicated server name, as follows...
-name=PlowjoysServerName
At this stage, im baffled. Any ideas?
Nevermind, got it. Had spaces in the path to my config files.

Hi, ive some problems with arma2 and my gtx295.The textures dissapear and all looks like crap.
Ive read in a forum that the problem is arma2 doesnt like gtx295.
I bougt a gtx295 only for arma2 and now this!
PLS HELP!!!! Arma2 is awesome
My english is not very good
IIRC, this is due to your 295 not being correctly recognized as being SLI-enabled. I had something of a similiar problem.
Clear your Nvidia drivers off, using a driver cleaner app. Restart. Clean again. Restart again. Download the latest Nvidia drivers. Install. Restart.
Check the Nvidia control panel and make sure multiple GPUs are configured, so you're not running in single-mode.
Give that a go. Being honest, it took me a few days to get mine sorted. Nothing whatsoever to do with Arma2. Its the Nvidia drivers/SLI profile that's screwed up.

OK, good for you, but you have a VERY high spec computer.I'm not talking about the owners of 5 year old laptops, that installed Vista on their ancient machines. I'm talking about people who bought a new computer with Vista pre-installed.
Why would you make an OS that is resource hungry to the point that 75% of the users suffer from it, because they don't buy a high-end computer?
This is me (dual core 2 @ 3.0 GHz, 3 GB RAM, 8800GTX) moving two windows around, nothing else. I don't think its acceptable.
But how is that Microsofts fault? The manufacturer of the computer has decided whether Vista or XP gets deployed. If they decide to underspec the PC for the OS, how is that anyones fault but theirs?
Don't blame Microsoft, blame the likes of Dell.
Prebuilt PCs are notorious for manufacturers cutting corners or underspeccing to meet the demands of the marketplace sweet-spot prices. Thats why if you got a custom job from Alienware for example, you wouldn't have the same trouble.
---------- Post added at 02:32 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:28 PM ----------
Well, must be quite hard to make/keep your program compatible with an OS that cloogs up on itself. No wonder, however unfortunate, that many gamers go to concole instead, at least they are not "evolving" all the time... or is that incorrect too?
I've now been running Vista 64bit for the last 2-3 weeks. I've customized the settings to tune things as much as I can.
I've got only anti-virus resident. Nothing else 3rd party is clogging my system.
I use Ultimate Defrag regularly to clean up all my drives and i've optimized frequently used files to high performance areas of my drives.
In 3 weeks, after installing my games collection back in it takes no longer to boot than it did fresh and it takes exactly the same amount of time to power down. As in, 4-5 seconds, max.
Nothing in my Vista 64bit install is 'bogging' my system down. The main reason being that I take responsibility for my rig and make sure it's maintained and running optimally for my purposes. Mainly gaming.
-
Well, without saying that this information is definitely true, I don't trust any information until its proven correct, but I have "overheard" that Microsoft will let all Vista users buy Windows 7 for a cheap price when it's released, simply because they know that most people are very disappointed with Vista. Why are they releasing Windows 7 only two years after Vista, it doesn't make sense if it really was a good product, does it?
People telling stories of the CPU working 100%, when you just move a window on your desktop... How can that be a good thing?
Like I said, Vista obviously requires a better spec machine. I've just moved windows around my desktop for 10 seconds and didn't see a single core go above 20% and I have all the UI effects notched up to the top.
Vista-hate is just another bunch of morons on a Microsoft-hate trip.
-
Well we all know that Vista stinks, specially for PC gaming.WTF are you talking about? Vista does NOT stink for games and actually if you want to get the best out of some games (DX10) Vista is the only current choice.
Vista was incredibly flaky when it was first released but my patched up 64bit version is in every way as good if not better than my previous XP Pro install.
The main problem that people have with Vista, without realizing it is that it's spec hungry. Get a good spec PC and it absolutely flies.
God, I detest this nonsensical Vista-bashing. There's just no need for it, whatsoever.
-
A) Then I would stick with the 180.18'sB) You don't need the SLI patch with these latest 190.38's
C) There's your problem.
What do you mean, "C) There's your problem."?
-
Join the crowd!! A bunch of people seem to be having the same issue. I don't know if its the Nvidia drivers or if the game is calling something wrong that the drivers don't like or what?I had a mysterious fix yesterday, I was playing and maybe getting 10 to 15 minutes before it crashed to the desktop and I reset the missions I was on which was manhattan and adjusted the graphic settings to mainly be normal for everything I think and the next 3 or 4 hours it ran without a crash.
Very odd!!
Not really that odd. The reason why Arma2.exe is blowing, at least from my experience in the last few weeks is that it reaches a critical mass with RAM usage, probably a mixture of system RAM and video RAM.
By lowering the in-game graphics settings, you're placing no requirement to load up higher quality textures and other graphical-related stuff into RAM. Therefore it takes much longer before you (if at all) encounter the same problem.

Would I be right in thinking that your pagefile is a set size? Or the drive that your pagefile is on is close to being full?
