  2. ok here we go....personally i would like to see if someone could do a realistic version of the jav because the current one continues to block your line of sight 1 while moving 2 while trying to take a sight picture standing ,kneeling and prone now in real life a soldier doesnt run around with the CLU (firing device) attached to the javelin the javelin is loaded onto the CLU prior to firing and only takes a second or two to do so maybe somone can model up a javelin where the CLU is not on the javelin only the tube till it has to be used and then the sequence would go from the load then fire this would reduce blocking of lines of sight and also would be a more realistic javelin imho also another nice adition would be to add in the alternate fire type (top ) as this would allow the javelin to do what its designed to do and thats attack the weakest armor of tanks and thats always on top

    the reason rpg's in general are not fired standing is you would simply get knocked on your ass when i was in the military and we fired carl gustav's and 66 rocket launchers we were taught that the prefered stance was at the kneel simply due to the backblasts ability to throw you off balance and also throw off your shot if you didnt have a stable position and the safest stable position is at the kneel edit however there are times when a standing shot would be more apropraite like firing from windows at targets below in a street and the like so it would be nice as an option moved to request thread by me

    cool mate that was our point exactly and i think you can understand our defensiveness i mean i personally havent used your sound pack but i have used ffamm ,vn,and a lot of others but if you were being checked out as far as your sounds vs another persons sounds and being asked please explain when you in all honesty have not stepped over the mark wouldnt you get a little pissy? edit:especially when its not the person who made the sound pack scrutinising against it i can understand the other modder doing it and i understand vid's intentions were true just possibly the methods could have been different who knows edit2: i wanted to go to the range with our mil to sample some stuff (australian )but as far as civi's out on exersizes (even to ex-diggers like myself) its frowned upon and mostly taboo due to some training accidents that have happened in the past and they dont want shit in the news like dead civillian killed on training exersize and our guys because of security and the secrecy act arent even to release photo's of exersizes except of ones back at base camp and they have to be ones of inside their tents i shit you not

    its actually a bit of both jex depending on the quality of your sound card , how you have your sound levels set,the type of sound recievers you use (quality and type of headset/speakers) and the settings the sound modder sets in place for vehicle sound volumes can change how far away a sound of a vehicle is . now also the game engine also regulates sounds as far as distances are concerned so try adjusting between your in game volumes first and see if you can resolve the issue first there as we have noticed that if you increased the music volume over the sound effects volume then when ur in a vehicle u can actually use voice coms more effectively so you may be able to tweek it that way ....if not i will look into finding out for certain if we can modulate the vehicle distance sounds a little more effectively edit ohh btw do you realise tanks are pretty fkn loud irl and most of the sounds i do say most are emulated quite realistically ussually an infantryman can hear a tank quite easily out in the field espescially if its birdfart quiet infact its the bane of the infantryman he doesnt want to hear those treads or the engines it usually means he has to put in more effort to watch his ass lol

    no probs chammy mate i just wish it didnt go like this and a lot of the blame goes both ways nobody is at fault all are and i guess its a learning experience in itself edit: and i understand vidz's viewpoint all he was doing is enquiring so as to protect his mates work and that is comendable especially in a time like we have in this world now loyalty is an admirable trait

    as far as your pm vids whatever mate  you go your way we will go ours and hope we find ourselves somewhere in the middle we become defensive when you scrutinised the work we did now you tell me what other group wouldnt do the same and we never claimed the sounds were ours thats the very point we have always said the sounds were sourced from 'outside the bi community and gained permission to use them' so let both get off our high horses i think we are all becoming overheated  and its not achieving anything and if i have offended you then i apologise we  just wanted to get a sound mod built that our gaming community could enjoy not be put under the microscope and told we had to jump hoops like we have seen previous sound mod builders who got ripped to shreds and we saw that this migth be starting to take place and thats why we become defensive ...who wouldnt edit: and as far as community sound mod we decided to put together our own as was stated earlier in the posts but cbf'd making a new thread about it and if thats caused some confusion and undue tension i myself apologise we should have had the forethought to do that instead of continueing on this thread ....anyways enough said

    acog anyone that wants the mod all they have to do is msg us we dont care if people use it just that it doesnt get ripped to shreds by so called scrutinists  and penile measuring sound freaks worried that  we have stepped on thier toes we only wanted to have an in game experience that was as close to a real battlefield as possible and to share that with the community now if thats a crime hang me ...im done

    well as soon as you checked sounds against chammy's sound mod and started questioning sources of sound you did exactly what your saying you didnt you implied that there may have been an infringement of somebodies good graces and i jst couldnt be F&%#*d proving to others that our sources are legit it doesnt matter now we are using a proper full recording of a jav with the sound of the gyroscope winding up prior to fire and then firing for our sound so now there is no issue and as far as trademarking sounds well good for him im not worried about it we never used his sounds and well im over this all together now the mods private now end of discussion

    all sounds recorded all come down to specific details that give a specific signature (the sound waves are like a fingerprint) now that all depends on specific factors:the location,distance from the sound being recorded,angle from the sound being recorded(ie: from behind in front or the side),the weather at the time recorded and in the case of the weapons the ammunition type used for the weapon as diiferent ammunition can cause a weapon to be louder or softer or ring out slightly different (i know this from personal experience while in the military using steyr ammunition in M16's when we ran out of US ammunition as australia makes its own ammunition for the steyr and doesnt just use a standard 5.56 ball ammo from memory its a diferent mixture of cordite  than the US ammo) all these factors can change the way a sound is recorded, now if you have the chance to go onto a range with the military and record sounds for use in a game kudo's to you but most military units wont let a civi within kooee of a military exersize let alone a range shoot and here in australia with the restrictions on rifles and weapons due to some very sick or stupid people doing viscious and maligned things to people it makes it dificult to get fresh sound recordings here but the community has a large bank of sounds on the net amongst umpteen different games and military sources not to mention visual footage of engagements in iraq,afghanistan and other engagements around the world and take some serious editting to get background noises and other sounds out of the spectrum so you have clear and concise sounds for use so there you have it this is how we got our sounds we got them by doing what we had to to get the best quality sounds (from outside the ArmA/VBS/OFP community)we could and well its a pitty that a small few have to question sources or accuse of using "someone elses sounds " simply cause another person has used the same or similar sound previously and claimed that it was thiers when the person claiming probably hasnt even been on a range in thier life Edit: imho if anybody really owns a sound its the person who experienced the sound first hand by firing the weapon in the firstplace as they experienced it first hand

    grinman u might think that your image posted is funny snd that we are being overly dramatic but go check the vbs,arma,ofp forums about all the different sound mods and you will see a lot of tearing shreds out of modders for the use of sounds that for all we know the ppl concerned have done exactly what we have and gotten thier sound files from external sources and gotten accused (not saying we have been)of using ppls sounds without permission and whole groups rip into a possibly innocent sound modder and who knows thier work might have taken the sound modding community a step further to getting things right but because someone questioned the use of certain sounds and caused a fuss the projects got shitcanned well our project hasnt got shitcanned its just gone private and up to myself or bk if we want ppl to have it is all

    i do have to apologise for bk's outburst but only the outburst his intentions here was to defend the efforts we have made in creating our sound mod and im not going to discount him that now as far as his response i will only go on as to say we have seen many a mod maker ripped to shreds in these forums for 'suposedly' using another persons work without solemn permission and we have not done that all our work was sourced from outside the arma community and well yes i can say i have gone through in the past 2 weeks over 2 and a half thousand sounds to get what we have the way we like and if some of those sounds are the same as in other mods then the people claiming the kudo's for those sounds shouldnt be as all the sounds we have used have been outsourced and quite frankly i can see why a lot of mod makers dont move into the sound area as there is way too much penis measuring for my liking and after we have worked out the last bugs in the sound mod we probably wont be doing another we might be moving into other avenues but that will be kept in house and if any aussie clansmen would like the sound mod they can get in touch with myself or bk for it we wont be going public with it for the moment and that wasnt my decision as im not lead on this bag but i stand by BK's descision and can only hope the community can get over the bs we have seen in the past with other sound mods and try to come together as a whole and try and build a sound mod all players find a pleasure to use cause we certainly love using ours

    sorry if i missunderstood but i am a CFS sufferer (i have suffered with chronic fatigue syndrome for 2 years now) and all i have done the past week or so is work on this  with bk  and im a bit frazzled and to my knowledge (its wasnt my department ) all content was verified for use and that all the small arms are from outside sources(outside ArmA that is)  but we are finding it dificult to find a sound of a relaoding stinger may have to fall back on the sound of a rpg loading .....(yuck) but we will see if we can find a sound to match even if i have to make another one lol edit : i now understand your comment about the laod your meant firing sound no probs fixed with the new sound anyways other than that did you like the sounds in game at all your feedback would be appreciated and i again apologise for my misinterpretation

    the sound for the jav was actually taken from outside of arma as with most of the sounds actually and if it is similar to the sound we use it may just be from the same sample and if any sounds seem similar i apologise but we are using mostly real sound footage and also we havent used any sounds without permission  and wouldnt use another persons stuff without 1 getting their permission or 2 giving them the kudo's for it in the first place edit : i actually wasnt happy with the stinger as it seemed flat and yeah it didnt have the rocket backblast and charge i wanted but that again is a work in progress we just put out what we had and thanks for letting us know the relaod was missing we were quite tired when we were doing the reloads for the weapons and forgot to put several in again remember this is in beta and not complete and  is subject to change at any time (from count its changed around 68 times now lol ) edit2: to mad matt originally the thread was a request to the sound mod community  to try and work together to make a sound mod above all others and well it motivated us to make one ourselves albeit modifying Fromz's work  with sounds we chose because they were the best quality we in our honest opinion could find and to the best of my knowledge we havent used anybodies work without thier expressed permission edit3: the stinger sound has now been changed although im still not happy with the result as it still doesnt have the jetstream sound i want as it it is difficult to find and i cant quite emulate it( i guess i need more practice) the sound was changed as we wont stand to be called plagerists and only want to put sounds in that are as close to the real weapon firing reloading etc without stepping on the toes of other modders

    no we havent we gathered weaponssounds from around the globe from different sources and resampled them at 16bit  mono i wanted to go higher but aimed lower due to the community possibility of not having adequate sound capabilities and we then tested the sounds against the originals by recording in game and listening and crossreferencing against  the originals we were wanting for the community to band together and put in different sounds they liked from different mods and try to find sounds that could emulate as close to but other mod makers (except Fromz btw we asked him if we could use his as a base and he said it was fine) didnt answer about the post or pm us with interest so we decided to get the best quality sounds we could and make our own  now myself i am exmilitary and know the sounds of most of the weapons in the game and several others who are current serving memers or exmilitary are betatesting it for us to get it as close to the real deal as possible also instead of how a lot of other mods have made different sounds for one generic weapon with a lot of modifications we made one sound  for each of the generic groups like m4 m16 ak74 etc  so there is no confusion as to what weapon the oposing forces are shooting at you we also made some custom sounds where there was no sound available by joining several sounds together we made the reload of the m24 and several other weapons  but we have not copied anyones work and again i would like to thank fromz for allowing us to use his sounds that we have and his config as  we arent coders but simple exarmy diggers who want the best sound experience in game we can get

    the point is we havent we have gotten our sounds not from other peoples sound packs but mostly from original sounds recorded and we modified them to suit (like the m24 reload sound we did) so unless you have seen and heard the pack for yourself dont go off half cocked saying its a bad idea ...nothing is a bad idea until the end result is what you didnt want now from all responses from the beta testers of this sound mod we have had nothing but praise for the sounds being realistic  and as true to life that mono sounds can get now we have only created  small arms and some of the vehicle weapons the rest at this stage is Fromz stuff and we thank him for the use of it and we have over 200 or so explosion sounds to go through before we add the next step which will be the explosion sounds for the mod but that will in a few weeks as we have worked a solid week (except to eat and sleep..and maybe a little arma) on the sounds we chose and beta testing to make sure there was no hiccups and as bk has said if you would like a copy to try out as it is still only in beta stage msg him and he will give you the details to get the mod but please dont critisize a group of people for trying to bring a community together to make a soundmod that has tried to pick up where others left off

    yeah thing is bk u and i both have outstanding soundcards and zalman 5.1 surround headsets so to us it might be F*%$ing fantastic but to everyone that doesnt come up to the mark with sound it might be underated (guess they just have to update thier sound systems lol)

    im totally with bk on this one i like the idea but the problem is yes....a lot of modders wont combine efforts and build an all powerfull sound mod that make all others a splash in the pan so lets get past that and combine the efforts of those sound modders that are interested i want my game to reflect as much realistic nature of the weapons im firing yet still keep the atmosphere of the game so modders please put your prejudices aside and build us a sound mod we can be proud of

    thats where you are also wrong my freind as all troops are periodically range tested as well as means tested with all small arms and equipment that is available to front line troops otherwise what use is it that troops be issued weapons if they dont know how to use them a soldiers role can change in the blink of an eye depending on the situation one moment he maybe sitting on a picket manning the gun (m249 or m240) then next he could be on a patrol with a GLA (203) the next he might be on an ambush with satchels or claymores so you see they have to be adversely trained and crosstrained to be efficient at doing their job and thats dealing in lead

    sorry mate but i have mates in current service in both U.S. and Australian armies and they both do opfor weapon proficiency training and my mates actually prefer the opfor weapons compared to what they work with due to thier reliability and hardieness(eastern block weapons have further effective ranges and have less issues with working parts than western military weapons) so i dont know where your comment came from

    although your idea is fine its rather far from the true aspect of military units from around the world ,being exmilitary myself i know from personal experience that units do training in weapons familiarisation not only in the weapons of choice (ie thier current standing equipment and the weapons of their country) but also in opfor weapons familiarisation including how to clear stopages and look after the weapons if needed to do so in the feild so the idea that a trooper wouldnt have the ability to use an oposing forces weapon as efectively is ludicrous....not trying to shoot you down in flames just stating a fact that no army in its right mind sends its troops to battle without knowing how to handle opfor weapons
