Had that problem too, almost constant hd reading and ctd on Vista32. I was so frustrated that i went and bought Arma 505 DVD (have Morphicon in Vista) and installed XP in dualboot and viola´, Arma runs like a charm . If you really want to play Arma to its fullest i suggest dualboot and running under XP. E6600 8800GTS 640 2Gb 1280x768 Viewdistance 2500 All on Very high and just a small fps drop in heavy forests.

Allright im gonna answer my own post here  . I went out buying the 505 Euro DVD, made a dualboot with a fresh XP pro and installed all the newest drivers. installed Arma and aplied 1.05 and then 1.08. And what can i say.... everything is sillky smooth  . Difference between Vista and XP (for me): * No more hd reading like crazy. * No more jerkiness when running/driving. * Faster loadtimes. * Somehow it looks better, hard to explain it just do. * No more crashes (so far at least) So what is to blame with playing Arma in Vista? * Memoryhandling? * Graphics drivers? * Arma? * Vista itself? I dont know but its a shame really because i really do like Vista and i havent had any trouble with other games/programes. All i can say right now is  1.08  (in XP )

Applied 1.08, started with a civil offroad in Paraiso (in editor), drove thru half the town, hd reading like crazy and a frezze for about 5sec then watching my desktop . Texture on "default" everything else on "normal", 1280x768 16:10, viewdistance 1200. E6600 8800GTS 640mb 2Gb ram X-Fi Vista32 Forceware 158.24

Where/how did you find it? Its not on official homepage nor on this forum
-
It´s system memory. As for the parameter check the other posts about it, there are plenty of them. Like this one: http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....t=57916

Search the forums, there are many posts about this error. You can try putting -maxmem=512 in the shortcut "Target" box, so it looks something like this: "C:\Games\ArmA\ARMA.EXE -maxmem=512"
-
Its still the 6th in europe

The -maxmem=512 makes it stable for me to, been playing around in the editor for ~4 hours and shut down manually for the first time (always crashed before). E6600 8800GTS 640mb 2GB Vista 32bit 1280x768 32 All settings on "Normal"

nice, so you too couldn't be bothered with DX10 stuff until it matures but SM3.0 was a must have (damn RvS:Vegas). Haha yeah Vegas made me buy the 1950pro because of SM3.0 but Arma made me buy a 8800GTS , just installed it yesterday and are happy as can be .

The *vs* will always happen when more than one product/company tries to win the customers. The good thing is that the development (competition) is kept up, the downside is that if you buy one product some other company might release a better product the next month. Also if you buy a product that you are happy with you tend to stick with the same brand. Thr0tt you have the same evolution as me: Ti4200, 9800pro, X850XT and X1950Pro .

I feel your pain mate. Im also on Vista and had a X1950pro but just got my new 8800GTS 640mb, mainly because of ATI´s slow progress of drivers (for ARMA) but also because of DX10. Im happily surprised of the speed increase and abillity to run Arma at higher res (1680x1050 native of my 20" wide lcd) thanks to the 640mb. Still some crashes from the "cant allocate memory" bug tho.

Makes sense in a way, not much sound is made, but visual "noise" is there (thrower and/or grenade or smokecloud in smokegrenades) although it's handled by gamemechanism same way than when firing a rifle. From my experience of the (Swedish) grenades they make a *crack* when the timed fuse ignites, sounds like a small firecracker.

Doubleclick the units and change "In formation" to "None" (or "Flying" if u want them to be airbourne when mission starts) for each unit in the group  .

Same here with Beta 1.07.5157 After flying a couple of minutes i get: ------------------ Cannot create system memory surface DXT5,2048x2048 (size 5592416 B) Error code 8007000e ------------------ Core2duo E6600 2gig X1950pro Asus p5b dlx x-fi Vista 32bit EDIT: Catalyst 7.4 Happens every time i run Arma, after about 20-40 minutes.

Yay! I would love to have all the goodies from SFP4 in ArmA Â . Ngra planer for det GranQ? Â

My opinion is to remove points completely, that way the game is played as it is suposed. With a point system follows cheats, hacks, exploits and such pest, there are always people prepared to do whatever it takes to be at the "top of the list" and destroy the game for everyone else.

I agree with Vilas, in a modern war there is so many systems that Arma doesnt simulate very well. Tanks, airplanes etc has so many electronic gadgets that is imposible to simulate in Arma. WW2 is mostly eyeball tecnology and generally slower paced witch suits the Arma platform perfect.

Why Does Everyone get so up tight on these forums?
odjob replied to Bald_Maggot's topic in ARMA - GENERAL
Making this statement on a forum for a game that is marketed with words like "realism" and "sim" doesnt make much sence now does it? -
But is it really off? ATI´s driver has had an option for "Vsync off" since i started using Vista (Catalyst 7.2 i think) but using this setting does not affect Vsynk ingame (still on). My guess is that the interface is the same as in XP and the Vsync option is there but not supported in the drivers.

I have a Samsung Syncmaster 205BW widescreen 20". Using FRAPS i have about 30fps but if i run fast the graphic was very "jerky", i notice that 60hz was set in options but there was also 70hz and 75hz so i tried 75 and most of the "jerkiness" was gone  . I find this a bit odd as my monitor should use 60hz. I use Vista 32 and cant turn of VSync and i thought that was why it was "jerky" but the 75hz did the trick. Anyone else that can confirm this?
-
Thanks for reply. i checked my monitor and it do support up to 75hz so im safe
-
I wonder if its possible to go even higher than 75hz (no higher is available in options). Also if it can harm the monitor if going over 60hz since that is on its spec.

I have a creative x-fi extreme music card and Arma german morphicon version (patched 1.02). I got Arma the first week after release and its been running great (with only a couple of crashes in MP) until a couple of days ago when it would ctd as soon as the menus apear, every single time i tried to start it would ctd. After many hours of checking i found it to be the "mode switcher" thingy that comes with x-fi. When switched to "Entertainment mode" Arma will ctd everytime, when switched to "Game mode" no ctd. Might have something to do with eax. Might help someone i hope. /P
