What is more difficult?
I know the answer but I would like to know what people thinks..
Making a 3d model is fairly fun and easy but when the texture time comes everibody asks for someone to make the textures for the model as if that was just polishing.
It´s taking me four times to make the textures than what it took me to do the 3d model.
I think that that´s the longest and hardest bit of the model as you have to keep going forward and backwards. You also have to be very carefull with the mapping if you want the pieces to be on the right place and the cammo follow smoothly the surface of the model.
That´s why I´m quite reluctant to models almost untextured or lacked of texture effort
A model might be perfect modeled, right sized and "fly" like the original but with those textures I won´t bother to even try as I wouldn´t feel in the real thing as I do with that Vietnam SEB pack Huey ( what a piece of art that is)
So texture or model?....In the graphics side of course I know nothing on scripting and configuring.

What kind of 3Ds is that?...
I make my model in 3DMAX4 then export it to 3ds and import it without any problem in O2....

HI.
Where can I find the demo models of soldiers? I have downloaded a few but I cannot load them again in O2 ( readin file error or something...the P3d not the PBO of course.
I just want to have a look around to the model requirements so I can try to make one from scratch...

Well...
I personally like to see what people is doing...For example that helicopter from MASH....If you don´t want teasers just don´t look at work in progress.
My Ferret it´s going to take long time ( not because I don´t know how to do it, nor because It´s not quality enough...) because I want to keep working on it untill I´m happy with it. But I like to see how things progress in other projects and so I show mine...
Maybe some people would be anoyed having to wait for some addons...(specially those who ask can you make me an helicopter?....) but some other people like me like sharing screenshots of your work and compare, talk about it and give tips.
If people bothers making addons let them show whatever they want. It seems that there is a feeling about addon makers as if they had the duty to finish their addons because of some contract with the comunity....
We should understand that people enjoy Flashpoint in two ways...playing and making addons...If for any reason they cannot finish their addons on "time" or not finishing at all there is no reason to be angry with them as it´s their own time and effort what they give you.
If an addon it´s not good enough or it´s not released at all just don´t worry, they are some more coming....
( this doesn´t mean I´m not finishing mine Â
I´m quite excited about the new textures that you haven´t seen yet but...as you don´t want to see them.... Â

Long but......
I have found that you can make a Mesh in Max ( for example)...then export it as 3ds, then convert it to Raw with a program called 3dexplorer.
Then you can import that raw into terragen....save it as .ter then import it in wilbur and then save it as txt....
I haven't done any land yet but this is the only way I found to do a model in max....I'm a MAXer...I use it unless is unavoidable

It´s the same textures....I´m just working on them....I made the shadows and now I´m painting the colors...
I made 4 textures 1024x1024 each to work with and then scale them down for game pourpose.
I did export a test last friday, I´ll add the small LOD for shadows, export it again and make the last screenshot before it´s finished ( I mean I will not update it again before it´s finished...I want you to surprise and notice the diference...so you don´t get tired of it before release)

Well...Making Mods is not just making missions with someone else´s  models. If you are so good you better do a car yourself...and prove it.
Any one can make missions bad or good...but if your idea of a cool mod is getting a delorean into WWII....I doubt of the quality of your missions...
I bet I know what movie you watched last night...

If you feel bored of what you are doing don´t "start" a new mod.. ( I say "start" because making a mod isn´t just saying so)...Get out and take a few pints ( if you are old enough
 what I doubt...) then come back and keep working. And show those nice pics you say you have...you can say whatever you want...unless you show something we might not believe it.I would love to make tons of addons but I know that if I start another one I won´t finish any of them....And I have a long list of things I would like to do....Westland Wessex, Morris Commercial, Soldiers, Oil Rig....and many more things....
This is a model I started long time ago...When I had been working in the Ferret for a month and I thought I needed something to distract my self from the Ferret when I got tired...
It´s a Morris Commercial PU, a british truck from the years in between WWI and WWII.
I realised that making two things at the same time ( I mean as Hobby) isn´t quite productive. So no more MOrris until I finish the Ferret.
So....keep focused, do only one mod...and make it good enough, then show it, and we will tell you how "good" you are.
I don´t like people that gives medals to themselves after someone elses makes the work for them ( read "make a delorean for me and my Mod because I´m good, very good")

Hi.
This are the latest screenshots of the Ferret.
They are just Max viewports but now you can see the progress in the textures.
They are just Shadows with a green color on top. I´m about to start adding the details....markings and that stuff...
Still a long way to finish....

I can´t wait to go back to my own computer with Max 5 to finish my Ferret and do a new soldier....
Any sugestion for a soldier?.....I was probably going to do some Black Hawk Down Ranger or WWII japanese soldiers...any better ideas?....

We addon makers sometimes cannot find reference good enough and we are not been paid for doing it so...
If you find anything wrong and show it, it might be late for an addon maker to fix it, or he might not fancy go back and work in an addon anymore...so be gratefull that someone has at least spent some of his time doing an addon that you are going to enjoy for free.
If you feel the addon is not right....well....don´t use it do it yourself...but never complaint about what someone has been spending his time and illusion on, even when it´s completely wrong, if you have nothing good to say better shut up..unless it´s a work in progress asking for advice, of course
It´s easy give ideas about what to do and how to do it.
If you want something done do it and we´ll all be gratefull.
This is not for you GodofGunnies it´s in general something that I have seen and I felt my duty to say after reading this posts.

Well...I´m actually thinking about just replacing the geometry and leave all the memory points and stuff in the right place.
It´s because I hate those small helmets and bad mapping in the shoulders.
I still have to decide what I´ll do....

This is probably the 100th time someone ask this but..
Is it possible to make a completely new soldier model, and then export it to O2, name selections and LODs and that stuff?
I ask specially for just a Yes or No.
If yes, any further explanation would be welcome.
I ask this because I have heard about animations and that stuff and I wonder if once you have the model you have to apply animations or whatever...
Any good reference for this?
I want ask it again.....I promiss

That´s not polycount mate, it´s enveloping...but you can fix that with one edge more in the arm

you must also get sure that the color area is bigger than the alpha so that there is no chance of having background coloured edges around the tranparency.

So as there is more effort in the texture...it should be understood that a 3d model is just a 20% of the final thing (script and export 30%) and texture 50%.?
