A2 no longer benefits from 5870 crossfire
NoJoe replied to node_runner's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
No, I think your results show pretty clearly that you are CPU limited. The fps stays roughly consistent with one, two, or three video cards within each high or low settings test, but increases when your CPU is overclocked. There was a thread a bit ago that had dealt with the CPU "not being fully used" while running Arma, and why that is so. I'll see if I can dig it up (or, anyone else remember where that was?) --NoJoe EDIT: Here's one of the threads. I can't remember if this is the one I'm thinking of or not... http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=73537 There aren't a whole lot of conclusions in it, but the general consensus seems to be that it is an issue of scheduling: That even though there are multiple threads running simultaneously, they often depend on the results of the others, so there is a fair amount of CPU time that is spent waiting for other threads to finish. -

Any one else, or did I just revive a two-month-old thread? -

I've got the stutters too, but I found a solution for myself! Disabling the Extended Event Handlers (ran as a mod, "-mod=@CBA") stopped those damn half second freezes! Arma 2 is now running very well! The rest of you with this problem: are you using these Extended Event Handlers? MacPro massive improvement since 58926

I've got an early-model Mac Pro (two dual-core 2.66 GHz, 4 GB of RAM, and a GeForce 9800GTX), and I've been struggling to get Arma 2 to run even with medium-low settings. 1600x1200 gives 25 fps at best, but drops down to 15-20 in cities. Not playable. I've been running 1300x1000 with medium-low settings but antialiasing set to High. Out in fields or forests I get 45-50 fps, but as soon as I look at a deciduous tree or step near a building it drops down to 25-30. Still playable, but meh. --NoJoe -
Does the distant sound delay only apply to explosions?

There it is. http://dev-heaven.net/issues/show/2896 It would be really nice to get this fixed. -

Yeah, I noticed that too. I believe it's in the bug tracker, but I can't seem to find it at the moment.. Hey, at least this way you can dodge incoming sniper fire! :D
