Arma 3: Confirmed features | info & discussion

With proper working + looking melee there could be also a nice 17th century mod. Just a little contrast to modern/hi-tech battlefields.... :) -
Arma 3: Confirmed features | info & discussion
NoRailgunner replied to Maio's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Well the thread title says "Confirmed features | info & discussion"... Guess if BIS like to show some (new) melee that works and looks good & smooth in A3 they will show it sooner or later! Robotic or arthritic melee combat should be avoided. ;) -
Infantry Combat-Boring and Unrealistic?
NoRailgunner replied to THEBLITZ6794's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
AI needs to warn/report threat(s) to TL/SL before breaking a direct order like "hold fire"! The AI feeback/report/warning system to the player needs to be improved. It's not the player to blame if AI communication with player is clumsy. Guess BIS wanted also to please those people who found it too demanding or stressful to verify AI reports and give new orders as TL/SL. Btw using AI tweaks like scripts and addons usually don't show the default A2OA AI behaviour. Be careful with assumptions that aren't based on pure vanilla A2OA!! -
How many will play ArmA 3 solely for its realism?

Different games for different expectations and needs.... variety is the spice of gaming not the amount of hype, popularity, ratings or uniformity. :) -
Welcome back Ivan & Martin!

Great to have both back! Now they need some tasty sammiches, yummy drinks, nice + sunny winter weather and time to make all the things they couldn't do in prison.... -
They can read your mind! Get some ones bank details with off the shelf hardware.

How many neurons are in the brain and how many times they are sending/receiving signals? Can a EEG pick up chemical signals? How strong are the signals and interferences? Are those signals and the software 100% reliable? Is the human brain and how it really works fully discovered and analysed?? One thing are theories and studies the other thing sensational headlines and wild speculations/conspiracy stuff. -

Let's wait and see if BIS can make some great A3 mp/sp missions incl. optional parameters and how long these mission will be played. As soon as people will find A3 editing/scripting, modding etc userfriendly and easy to learn they will try and make their own scenarios anyway. Server admins do select which missions/mods/addons are active on their servers not BIS! -

Well JCDBionicman didn't you basically said that you have a huge problem using a keyboard in A2OA? Didn't you also claim memorizing keys is just too demanding to have fun playing a pc game? Again - its up to the player to decide what he can and will do to enjoy a game, for example: if one likes to play DCS flightsim series he probably will not go an argue/moan much about these controlls or even trying to talk people into using HAWX 1/2 controller setup. You seem also to ignore the point that BF (or COD) gameplay pace is not the same like in Armaverse. Just have a look at what ranges tanks, APC/IFVs and helicopters operate and compare it with those smaller areas in most mainstream shooters. Few people here tend to forget that there is more to enjoy than only tacticool CQB instant-kill/respawn-action. The bigger the islands/maps are the more choices one has to setup different battle areas/zones and interesting operations. -
Instead of removing a feature what about changing it so the mission maker can assign a unit/team/group to which the Raven can transmit its data/info? Maybe so that those certain units have to carry an special RQ-11 receiver device/laptop?? Perhaps add somekind of transmitting delays and interferences if the SUAV or "receiver" group is getting out of the radio/commlink radius???
-
Sure, with better A3 training camp scenarious incl. good voice acting new people will be better prepared for their A3 campaign deployment. BIS said that they also working on userfriendly ingame help support for A3. Imo the player shouldn't be able to switch into so many characters/careers during a campaign just for the sake of introducing or showing all game features. Better to have some very well made sp missions that do explain them in detail instead of rushing the player through or showing it only very briefly.

In how many OFP CWC/Res missions one could see big combined battles going on? Action just spawned around the players mission path - there wasn't so much going on elsewhere! Just increase the viewdistance settings and one can see the calm + lifeless nature of the island.... Guess there are only a very few players who would like to be forced to play A3 at max 800-1000m.... ;)

@JCDBionicman - for you interest pc gaming is usually about making use of keyboard + mouse, except maybe simulations where one can enjoy them a bit more using a proper flight stick, pedals and/or a steering wheel. If you just want to play games focused around streamlined console controlls - just simple play games that are developed for consoles (or consolified). Imo if players don't like or can't be bothered with a little game specific controller familiarization (phase) they should stick to casual games. Isn't it great to have variety of games that aren't just trying to be profitable copy of another one? :) -
Just search for the bullet shot/hit ratio during the Vietnam and Iraq war. It's the feeling that makes soldiers confident firing their guns to suppress someone with pure firepower and get the enemy into somekind of shock and/or unable to respond/act. ;) BIS AI somehow do have troubles with perception, recognition and reasonable/effective use of tactics/vehicles/weapons. The default AI doesn't have a good type of self-preservation - just fire up some grenades/mortars and watch them standing out in the open or watch AI crew getting out of a tank and instantly trying to kill someone instead of running for cover before the tank explodes....

NoRailgunner replied to Maio's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
@JCDBionicman - most pc players do know where the "buttons" are on their keyboard + mouse and they do use the controller option/menu to setup the keys how they like and feel comfortable with. The only reasons why someone would feel its "a scavenging hunt for a right button press" or "an awkward twister session with your fingers" is that one doesn't have full controller setup + options or/and that "bit of laziness" to tryout and adjust the default game setup. ;) -
ARMA 2: OA beta build 100544 (1.62 MP compatible build, post 1.62 release)
NoRailgunner replied to Dwarden's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
Found another issue which is also present in latest beta build (100697): AI groups with vehicles need too much time to spread out after getting out of vehicles. This issue probably isn't that hard to see/repro - use default motorized/mechanized groups add some waypoints incl. "Unload" wp and watch how many time they need to spread out and move to next wp. As for binoculars, rangefinders - AI is using them even at places where their view is obstructed by objects or terrain. The Laser Designator Rangefinder in AI hands is still useless and dangerous to their own team/group. There are three solutions for this issue: a) put a blind eye on and pretend that its not important b) fix it with a (dirty) workaround c) make it right/work. -
I think we should wait for more informations and ingame videos. ;)

ARMA 2: OA beta build 100544 (1.62 MP compatible build, post 1.62 release)
NoRailgunner replied to Dwarden's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
@Sickboy: All issues seen in vanilla A2OA - just place 3 or more AI groups and teams against each other (simple move/S&D waypoints) and watch how often the default TL/SL AI units use their binoculars (initial distance to each other ~500m). Perhaps BIS can make and include an gearmenu option to quick-remove all kind of binoculars/pistols from AI until these issues are fully fixed? Its annoying if mission makers and players still have to use "dirty" workarounds for such issues.... -

Seems that AI have some troubles to aim with AT at targets which are closer than 200-300m - they often just fire and hit the ground 10-50m in front of themselves. Or is it a new AI movement/animation/fsm issue in general? -

"Steal the Car" - can you make the Mi-24 Hind disappear/despawn after the 2nd flyby = like to original (now the Hind is coming back often just to crash into trees/hills)? "Cleansweep I" I got ejected shortly after the UH-60 left the ground (only my teamleader and myself survived). "Cleansweep II" - can't remeber that there were so many soldiers against only 3 BlackOps... :D "Cleansweep III" shouldn't the weapon/gear selection have soviet/russian arms? "Infantry(?)/Ambush" - waypoints seem to be abit off or AI didn't like to move/stay on roads, the Ural with reinforcments didn't arrive and the UH-60 was nearly shot down by a unknown vehicle (BMP?) from the small hill at coast - probably patrolling somewhere on the beach. IIRC the landing zone in Chinook mission closer to the sea with a little bit less trees and more space... Anyway I like that you add some small details/objects to the missions to make them more alive. :) -

Hmm... those flickering dead units are back (or not really gone). Most visible if many AI's/players are fighting in a certain place (Zargabad) - dead units are changing their killed stance into their last live position for a split of seconds. Plus AI (TL/SL) units still/again using their binoculars too often in battles/firefights - better option would be if AI only use binoculars when there is no battle or imminent threat close to them and their team/group. -
