try deleting your arma2oa.cfg (arma2.cfg if you don't have OA). A new one will be created the next time you start the game. -
Like HR4 said there's several game launchers that fix this problem. I use ArmaII Launcher by Alpinestars and it works great (there are several others I can't remember off the top of my head)

Did you change your AToC settings so that it's not rendered to the grass? I had the same problem until I set mine to 6 (which enables it for all vegetation except grass) and saw a massive improvement when scoped in on grass. -

Dumbest...thread...ever :idea: Did you actually go there during their normal operating hours and ask? Or better yet you could have bought the Sprocket version (probably for cheaper and giving more money to BIS); DL'd the files, installed the game, and backed them up on a DVD all in the time it took to write your post

again...has anyone with the same problem as the OP tried changing their AtoC settings??? Are you actually looking for help or just ranting? -
Play with the settings...AtoC on grass is the biggest FPS killer for me; but running atoc=6 keeps it on the vegetation but removes it on grass and my FPS gets a nice boost. Also you can disable it on resource-hungry islands like Chernarus but still use it for the foliage in OA.

open up Arma2OA.cfg and change AToC=7 to a lesser number (or zero for 'off') -

I know there are some missions that have similar scripts to keep you in the "playing-field" because they realistically can't populate the whole island .(it would bring even the most powerful systems to a crawl, not to mention entity limits). They do this because more than likely there's no other enemy units beyond that point, otherwise you could run around for hours and never see anyone even tho you're in "enemy" territory However I'm not very familiar with the mission so it could be a bug/bad script -

Are you running a 32bit OS? You might post some system specs so it can be easier to diagnose (CPU, RAM, video card, etc.) -
For the love of God I hope there is NO preorders...that just puts pressure on the devs/publishers to release the game on said date despite possible bugs that could/should be fixed.

Try playing it w/o mods to see if it works. If it does, then one of your mods is conflicting with it. If it still doesn't work, then chances are it's an error in the mission, and you need to search for the mission-maker's thread and ask there. -

I used to opt for a higher 3D res instead of AA; but since AToC only works with AA enabled then I have to use low AA with a 120% 3d resolution -

You can still use Low PP and get the 'bloom' effect w/o the blur-of-field; only HDR needs to be set to High -

Ah ok, I was kind of confused hehe. Yes, my CPU is only the next step up from yours but I also have mine OC'd to 3.9GHz; at stock (3.4) I do notice a little more "strain" in heavy missions; but still very playable. At the top of the page I linked to there's an example of where to add those commands to your Arma2 shortcut -

Are you saying that you only have two cores or that only Core #2 has load? Just wondering as a 955BE is quad-core At either rate, have you tried using -cpucount=x in your shortcut? You might also play around with -exthreads=x http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Arma2:_Startup_Parameters#cpuCount With -cpucount=4 and -exthreads=7 the game uses all 4 of my cores pretty evenly, the highest load on Core #1 I get anywhere from 60FPS in empty maps to high-20's in "busy" maps (lots of AI, scripts, action, etc.) BUT...the game is always smooth and perfectly playable. I've also recently added a RAMDrive which hasn't increased raw FPS; but texture/model/game loading,popups, and microstutters are nonexistant, and gameplay is the smoothest as ever even when FRAPS says I'm only getting ~25fps. (another reason not to trust FPS counters) Oh, and my card is a little more than ".2 better" than a 5770...you need to buff up on your specs lol: http://www.hwcompare.com/8917/geforce-gtx-560-ti-vs-radeon-hd-5770/ Again, I don't think it's your GPU holding you back as you're using the low-resolution textures and can get 50+ on an empty map. And stop staring at the FPS counter!!! -

I wouldn't go buy one yet as it sounds like you're more CPU-limited (especially with Arma2 Free since it has very basic textures). Go in the editor and place a single unit as yourself (even put a vehicle to drive around) then preview, and get an idea for FPS in towns and woods. If you maintain decent FPS, then chances are your CPU is bogging the game down when there's multiple AI on the map. Also, 2GB of RAM is pretty low by today's standards and could be causing slowdowns as Arma has to stream more data from your HDD which is a LOT slower than RAM Just a thought... -
I have my TrackClip Pro running from a battery pack and it works fine. The only problem is that it needs 4-AAA batteries; which add quite a bit of weight to my headphones (but they are just some cheapo Logitech ones). So it IS possible (maybe NP will develop something similar in the future :bounce3: )
