Here's something some of you may find interesting, taken out of context, but still: </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">In this respect, understand that both intelligence, as well as awareness, imply consciousness. The problem in trying to understand this lies in the fact that, generally speaking, man is very careless in his understanding of the words he uses. Consequently most of humanity cannot distinguish between the terms awareness, intelligence and consciousness, simply because these three terms are usually assumed to be synonymous. Yet in actual fact, although the three words are closely allied, since they are interdependent, there is nevertheless a vast difference between the true implications of these terms. The word 'intelligence' comes from the Latin word 'intelligere', meaning 'to choose between'; whereas the word 'awareness' comes from the Latin word 'vereri', meaning 'to be fearful'. We therefore have, on the one hand, a state of consciousness which brings about discernment, and on the other hand, a state of consciousness which recognises the necessity to be alert. Both, however, are expressions of consciousness, a word which comes from the Latin word 'conscius', meaning 'sharing knowledge'. Nagal Mares <span id='postcolor'> Anyhoo, i think they will make AI (as it is Artificial, not actual intelligence), but prolly only when some good chemical based computers are made.

Release time, unknown. MH60 is in a class of its own, it's far too good. Though its nice to fly it over the island I think those pics mostly have rotorwash in them, not mist

Have a look in the BAS update thread Miles, i think when that island is out it should suffice. All the town and area names are taken from papua new guinea, as they sound very african, but can pass as a variety of places in oceania and pacific areas. Though the largest jungle area is nameless, just seemed fitting. While that island is fictional, i worked from hundreds of reference pics of africa, as it's a very nice country with diverse terrain. Most of the jungle is "2nd generation" jungle provided by Ebud, maker of jungle everon, and Select This has helped alot in object placement techniques, combined with scripts by TJ and custom sounds, it is a nice jungle, nice enough to make you feel like you are somewhere new in ofp. There are also some other reasons why that island while be good for african scenarios, but they will have to be a suprise

Crocodiles, we could, but don't count on it LaPoi, the government of the lost isle spent all their money on nice bridges, so the naval base got some budget cuts. Last pics for the time being, from the mini-campaign: Intel Photo from first mission. Deploying: Stalking during the next mission: Later:

Ahh, that was some ruins along the river LaPoi. Again i will try the mpeg, but again it is not likely i can actually upload that file size and space wise. A few pics: Bridges Where jungle meets desert Some desert A thin strip of land that connects 2 jungle areas

Bn880, i dont reckon the sci fi setting was bad, though it was not why i liked it. The setting serves it's purpose, and uses something peeps can relate to, technology. As opposed to pure feats of perception (such as dreaming), it takes places through computers, something that people can comprehend easily enough. Logic and reason can't assimilate everything, as much as they try. Such as "feelings" for example, they are irrational by nature. Logic and reason can only really catagorize and order what is already know, the unknown is another thing altogether. Anyhoo, here's a nice saying from a mate, used as an intro caption in one of his books: "Pure understanding is the firm understanding that there is nothing to understand."

Preventing such a thing as the Matrix? OR are we allready IN the matrix? It can f**k your head up something good As with all films, don't diss it because you don't like the actor, some of the best films I've seen have had wooden acting, but the best plots, twists and screenplay...<span id='postcolor'> Hehe, the engineer guy loves to ask "if you were in a VR world as real as this one, how would you verfiy for certain which world you are in?" and How would you know it as a fact? I didnt see any probs with the acting, i think neo is meant to be "wooden". The whole production has a nice surreal tinge to it, and the actors complement that (imo). The main characters represent people doing amazing things, with amazing discipline over their minds and bodies. The acting seems fitting to that.

I just saw it, and liked it. The action was great, especially the car scene. I dont really like movies in general, but was happy with this one. The philosophy of the movie is pretty deep, most of it would go over peoples heads (way over their heads). Considering the movie is effectively a medium of conveying particular concepts (which are already more than well know by some people), it does very well, as those particular concepts are often described as "silent-knowledge", things which words can't describe. In real life people try to teach the same things with all sorts of words, but the best they can hope for is to try to convey a "feeling", hoping students can use that feeling to launch into action, making for actual knowledge (experience). Though there are very few people who actual do teach anything, and they are deliberatly hard to find. The matrix does well to convey a feeling, thats to say the least. I also like it as its the only contemporay example of the culture and system the word "nagual" come from. Even the scene with the "Architect" had references to an extremely esoteric myth / system called the "The Rule", down to details like numbers of males and females. Anyhoo, i know an engineer that develops mainstream technologies, he's been saying for a long time (before the first matrix) that computer technolgy will progress over the next 20 years, to the point that things like VR will be abe to fully reproduce a world as real as this one. So gaming would involve stepping into a entire world, and living the the story / experience. He also believes that after a while people will get bored with it, as while in the game or simulation they will still be themselves. So to take the step of full immersion, peeps will create memory blocks, so they can have fully authentic experiences. If / when that stuff happens, i hope ofp is still around

Thanks for the feedback. Im not sure about the codec probs, it may be a compatability thing between win98 and winxp. I might be able to make an mpeg, but cant guarantee anything, as uploading the larger file alone may be difficult. The video mainly focuses on the central area and river area, LaPoi im not sure what you mean by nv clip, but it would of either been the graveyard or river. And i will get some pics ready today, but for the time being heres a pic of some prime real estate with river frontageRiver 1 There will also be a mini campaign shipped with the island, a counter-insurgency operation against African Rebels...

Heres an island video i put together the other day. isle.wmv (Windows media 9 codec) Just a note, "Lost Island" is the working name, which i gave it when it was started a few days after wrpedit was out. The release name may be different.

Custom music in an island anim not working.
Nagual replied to theavonlady's topic in OFP : MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Also to make the sounds more accessable than through triggers and commands, add a cfgvehicles, that will lets you make sounds available in the editor under empty>sounds, so you can place the sound on the map. Eg, place some tommy guns and mg42 sounds on the map to create ambience. </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE"> class CfgVehicles { class All{}; Â Â Â Â Â Â class Sound {}; Â Â Â Â Â Â class battle1: Sound { scope=2; sound="sound1"; displayName="Ambient - MG42"; }; }; <span id='postcolor'> *sound1* is the name of a sound you define in cfgsounds. -

Ahh, well if description.ext wont work, then only real option is make an external pbo for just the music. The config would be like this, very simple: </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE"> class CfgPatches { class i44_music { units[] = {}; weapons[] = { }; worlds[] = { }; requiredVersion = 1.00; }; }; class CfgMusic { access=1; class i44_muse { name="i44_muse"; sound[]={"\i44_music\music\i44_muse.ogg",1.000000,1.000000}; }; }; <span id='postcolor'> *i44_music* is the folder name, with a folder *music* inside, with *i44_muse* as the ogg file, in side the music folder. Then just pack it with stuffpbo or makepbo, and you can use the music with your cutscene. -

I found this thread thru a link in the ofp2 section Avon for music in config: </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE"> class CfgMusic { access=1; class islemuse1 { name="IsleMuse 1"; sound[]={"\i44_islename\music\musefile.ogg",1.000000,1.000000}; }; }; <span id='postcolor'> For multiple cutscenes to be played at random (each time you go to main menu): </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE"> cutscenes[]={"..\ADDONS\i44_Anim\Cut1","..\ADDONS\i44_Anim\Cut2","..\ADDONS\i44_Anim\Cut3"}; <span id='postcolor'> Cut1, cut2.. are the cutscene folder names. If you want random cutscenes palying each time it loops in menu (as the random one is chosen when menu loads, unitl its loaded again), yo uwould need something along the lines of : _random = random 5 ? _random == 1 : goto "scene1" ? _random == 2 : goto "scene2" #scene1 _camera = "camera" camCreate [9578.59,3540.29,1.66] _camera cameraEffect ["internal","back"] blahblah #scene2 _camera = "camera" camCreate [9578.59,3540.29,1.66] _camera cameraEffect ["internal","back"] blahblah -

Maximus, heres a way to add res objects (and blackdog, its also a way to avoid cutpbo) Get pbodecryptor and makepbo by Amalfi (should be at ofp.info). Then unpack o.pbo, and set it up to pack again, with the same name, with makepbo. In MakePbo properties, uncheck every box, including "resistance.pbo", so no files are compressed (or it would take all day ). Then just take your new O.pbo, place it in your normal ofp dta folder, load up wrpedit and you will have access to everything. Just remove it to somewhere like main ofp directory before loading up ofp, to avoid some errors and memory mapping probs.

Im not sure if its a mission prob or bad luck prob Poet. Sometimes ofp goes strange and the "all follow group" command appears, im not sure how to fix it once it happens in mission. Is there a process that sets it off, like all AI disembark before you, or you disembark before the AI?
-
Yeah, its uses windows media 9 codec. I just put up a normal mpeg version, its a bit bigger though, same link.
