  1. After further testing I found out that BIS' Stryker has the same odd turning effect so I guess I just have to live with it. I added both type="rotation" and angle0 so it works for now.

    Blurry textures in O2 Viewer

It worked! Thank you very very much .
  4. I've had this problem since day one but now it's getting more and more annoying. Textures that are 2048 x **** turn out blurred (downsized) in O2's renderer but they show up right in the game. Smaller textures like 1024x1024 appear correct. I've tried to do changes to buldozer.cfg but none have helped so far. What exactly should I do to make O2 Viewer fully support big textures just like the game does?

  7. I'm having problems with vehicle interior. It seems that no matter what I do with rvmat or model settings the HDR lighting will always go nuts inside the interior. Outside the model things are fine and it looks just like every other model but inside the lighting makes everything slowly brighter until the whole interior is white or grey with some spots of green here and there. I remember seeing similar anomalies with Stryker in ArmA 1.0 that were fixed in later patches. Any idea what causes this?

    Tidy up the action menu

This seems to be the newest thread about action menu so instead of starting a new thread I'll use this. I think BIS should really ditch the whole action menu altogether. It's painfully slow to use when there are lot of options as even the simplest task must go through the action menu like entering vehicle, opening door, using ammo crate etc. I don't really see any reason at all for this kind of implementation. All these actions could be done with simple point & click system. Currently in ArmA the first action will pop up with a icon. This is a small step towards more fluid interactivity with the game world but it fails when you have for example many ammo crates close to each other. All crates use the same object name and you have pretty much no idea which ammo crate will be selected when you hit the action button. So first step would be to change the icon into brackets that surround the selected object, Deus Ex and System Shock 2 are good examples of this. Next step would be to remove the action menu and use only the point & click system and hotkeys. The two games I mentioned are perfect examples again how fluid and elegant the system is. This system could also be extended to vehicles too to give every vehicle easily accessed new functions that would otherwise clutter the action menu. Basic vehicle functions like eject or gears down should have hotkeys by default but extras like open windshield armor in BRDM-2 or change seat should go through point & click system. Since this is more an UI matter I will make a more detailed post about my idea there with screenshots.
  9. My list: Performance No point including the latest bells and whistles if you can't run it even with recommended hardware. Player movement Ditch the crappy body awareness that is dependant on animations. That will never work in 1st person. Movement in 1st person view should always be 100% precise. If I want to move just 5 steps forward I except to be able to do that, current system forces me to stop only after the animation is stopped. For sprinting this might be realistic but if I want to walk slowly and carefully I can't do that in ArmA or OFP. Also the way how crouch is tied to animations is very akward and forces the player to stop and crouch. These things should be possible to do on the fly. Not to mention how horrible ladders are. Traditional floating camera would work much better and would be much more flexible and open to new ideas and features. Plus you could include some body awareness features to that too just like in Dark Messiah, Crysis or HL2. Player actions Ditch the akward action menu and put all actions to world instead. Games like Deus Ex and Thief are excellent examples how the world should be made interactive with as little distraction as possible. If I want to enter a vehicle I should be able to just click a generic "use" button when my cursor is over the selected vehicle door. Same would go for all usable objects like doors, buttons, weapon crates, bodies etc. Currently when I have two weapon crates near each other I have to select from the action menu which crate I would like to access. Very slow when I'm in hurry and if the two objects have same names it is very confusing. How hard it would be to implement something as elegant as in Deus Ex where you just pointed and clicked? That's all for now .

Thanks. The model and textures are made by a very talented guy named atonic. I just spiced up the textures a little, added materials and brought it in game .

    Operation Flashpoint 2 officially announced

We are not declaring BIS dead. We are simply saying that in order to make ArmA2 more pleasing and more succesful they need to fix many little things that have been already fixed in OFP2. These include the animations. Some examples: -Soldiers load each weapon with a different animation -Weapons are fully animated -Detachable weapon parts with smooth animations e.g. Javelin -Animated vehicle doors with full soldier animations I know ArmA is cabable of doing some of those but if these features aren't included in the vanilla game then it's just lazyness. Sure mods can fix these things but I would like to see them already in vanilla Arma2.

    Operation Flashpoint 2 officially announced

X2 In my opinion BIS should do some serious changes to game mechanics. After this video ArmA just feels very outdated, not graphically but feature wise. It's the small details and mechanics that make OFP2 stand out much more. Hopefully it won't be another Crysis.

    Operation Flashpoint 2 officially announced

Damn this game looks promising. I had my doubts but not anymore really. BIS will have hard time competing with this if they want to sell to other than fans. I like how they have added animations to everything, something I'd really like to see in Arma2 too (though I doubt that'll happen). Hopefully the game will be fully moddable and will run on medium end machines too.
  15. This is a map service of my old home town. It has good aerial photos of a large area that has quite varied terrain, this should help when drawing satellite maps. http://kartta.lahti.fi/ On left you should see a toolbar. Set 'Kartta' to 'Ilmakuva' and you should see the photos. You can also change between August 2005 and September 2001 photo sets using the two checkboxes.

We had working rank system in FDFmod OFP but it was rarely used in missions even though there were simple instructions in readme. So at the moment it's not a priority. We will post more screens with the next news update .

Yes every FRDF soldier will have pistol & holster. Is M-80 pistol (Browning HP) still the standard pistol in FRDF? I've heard of P226 being used too. Also any idea what model the holster in ArmA is?

With standard FRDF soldier/operator I mean those who are on active duty (usually abroad). Whether he/she is in KFOR/ISAF/etc. doesn't matter, we are just trying to create something what a FRDF soldier would look like with full M05 gear. This includes all kinds of variants like soldiers with berets, caps etc. Mission maker decides how and where to use them . About my source, he is someone who is going to Chad if that mission ever begins. He and his fellow soldiers are something I'm trying to create here. I asked him what they are issued with and what is really going to be used, thus no arm protectors (yet). I am also going to make that desert camo . Promo picture shows an older WIP. So no worries there . I think it's just like it as was with the old M91 vests. Shrapnel vest was lighter and suited better troops who move a lot (jaegers etc.) and ballistic vest was for those who operate in smaller and more dangereous area. Also M05 shrapnel vest has those molle straps so you don't really need equipment vest with it (dunno why that guy has both though). We will of course make the M05 shrapnel vest too, but it's not a priority at the moment .

These are supposed to be standard FRDF soldiers with their full M05 gear. Fixed. Thanks for info, will be fixed. Will be fixed. What do you mean? Helmet is now fixed and vest pouches will be redone. We will also add the correct collar and groin plate for the grey ballistic vest. Arm protectors will be done later. According to my sources they are given to FRDF operators but aren't really used in real operations (too clumsy). Will be added. Though I would like to see some detailed photos of them if possible. Do M05 gloves differ much from those crappy black leather gloves?

Everything that adds extra actions to action menu should have some kind of useful function IMO. Currently they are just eye candy and they will most likely stay that way. About those PKM boxes... FDF has a doctrine which means you can't really throw anything away, so even empty PKM boxes would be reattached for future uses. A bare ammo belt would be a different case however .

By variants I mean different loadouts for soldier classes like in BIS units. But we will have more, for example basic soldier has currently 3 different loadout variants. However you can't really select what you wear by yourself.
