Hehe, screw those SWAT stuff. Most of what people show here as SWAT are mid- to late ninties uparmoured and upgeared commandos. As goob said, the budget of Nogova should be kinda low and if they'd had more than maybe 10 regular police cars of different types and a total of maybe 25 officers they'd already have a very large police force compared to an island of that size.
The mentioned regular cop with an old steal helmet and a flak or kevlar vest would be a lot more fitting to a mid eighties small country police force. This ain't USA where every retard and his grandma own a shotgun or automatic rifle, thus making excessive police presence a must. Even in Germany, which ain't a small country, most raids would consist of regular police with some added vests, a submachinegun here and there and in the worst case a GSG9 reaction team, who in the eighties had just dark coats, some basic ballistic protection and a helmet, basically like this:

And if a rich country like Germany can provide an equipment level of this, something like Nogova should be way below that standard. I still plea for just including some standard cops with a vest and a steal helmet. That should do alright.
Instead what about adding the then anyways modelled vest to 2-3 civilian models as well, turning them into federal cops or officers in civilian clothes. This combined with the Black GAZ24 (with modified siren effects like the other cars) would work out nicely for fast reaction or entry teams. No need for overkill SWAT uber-elite stuff like in USA or in some other countries since the mid ninties.

That van has some weird look. Furthermore I think it's a little too fast (especially off-road). There ain't some interior modelled yet for the back part, just the driver cabin, so a lot of work would have to be done in that matter. I would also see that if there will be a coversion of the van, it will come with nogova compatible number plate, not the yellow one it has right now.
If the vehicle is chosen for becoming that van, I'd really suggest that it's values will make it have it's own place within the police car family. Mainly by making it slower (also off-road) but with an increased transport capacity on the other hand. Right now, it can match speed with the Jeep or the GAZ. Ah well, we will see.

-
What about some civilian support vehicles? A civilian fuel truck (pv3s reskin in some gas station typical colours) or an civilian repair truck would be nice. Maybe both of these packed together with a white ermergency UAZ would be nice.

The aim of this addon is to equip the Nogvans with "period" equipment that doesn't look out of place, so as much of it as possible will be "older" Russian/Eastern bloc equipment, or "low spec" civilian equipment. So no, I won't be doing American style Vans, or Porsch 911's, or using the BAS "Biker" model. After all, the Nogovans would only patrol a maximum of 4 Small islands (counting Everon, Malden and Kolgujev under their durisdiction too) so they wouldn't have a mega budget, or a need for top end equipment.Uncle Sam doesn't seem to quite understand the theme of the Nogova police. *shrug*
I fully agree with DeadMeat on that. Stick to mid eighties tech-wise and mix older soviet style equipment with some Western low-spec stuff. Perfect.

I don't think that such a helmet thingie would be really needed. The police officer with the cap looks fine to me when riding the bike. However, if the decision will be made that a helmet should be included, I suggest to not make something like that actionmenue entry. Instead maybe add a script to the vehicle that will make the helmet visible for a police biker cop as long as he is riding the motorcyle and automatically turn it off on the model when disembarking. Furthermore you could maybe add the same helmet model to the bike and include it in the script that when a police biker cop is riding the bike, the helmet model is not shown anymore. This would have a nice visual effect as the helmet would vanish from the bike and at the same time the biker cops helmet would appear. You won't need any fancy addaction stuff then. Everything would be automated and another menue entry could be avoided. However I would place the helmet on the bike so it looks kinda fastened (not slung around the handlebar, etc..) and couldn't fall off. That way the helmet would still remain visible and would be believable if a non bikercop model would ride the bike.
-
Oh, regardind those SEK German police guys, I wouldn't include them. The models from the HK pack resemble top-notch German units. The gear they use was not available back in the mid-eighties. Like suggested before, if there ever will be some plans on "uparmoured" officers, give them a simple flak jacket or kevlar vest and either an old soviet style or vietnam style us helmet, both plain steel, not kevlar. For colouration you could paint the helmets white with a green stripe running around one side and policie written slighly above the stripe on the front. The kevlar vest or flak jacket should be mainly in dark (black) colour. When it comes to default equipment, I'd suggest to give those guys either FN FAL or the silenced UZI. I really like the idea of the FAL being the police rifle of choice, since they were shown armed with them in those parade cutscenes showing the new JSDF animations. The rifle is kinda outdated for '85 already, which makes it a cheap choice to replace the previous Nogovan AK47cz rifles. Furthermore it stresses Nogova's bonds to the West, like with the police jeep. A good mixture of old (east) and new (west).

Yeah, I would prefer a revamped OFP bus over some americanized school bus type any time. Let's try to stick to the European look as much as possible.
-
Hmm, well I can still reload choppers with 1.92. The only thing that is wrong is that if the chopper (or any other vehicle) has no ammo for a weapon right from the beginning of the mission, you are not able to rearm. In the case of the UH60, you would have to have at least 1 missile in the rack at mission start to be able to rearm. This bug has been around for a long time though.
-
ahem... that was my siren sound on DeadMeat's policie pack...
ahem, it was electronic arts sound you ripped from their need4speed game, not yours.

-
I like itnice way 2
- Transport Riot Squad
- Criminals
- Â A lot of Police Man
- High Way patrol, Alcohol Team(in the NL whe have it dont no if other countries has)
- Important People in a large group with A lot of Bodyguard
Shall i continue?
You would probably get the whole of Nogova's police officers into that single bus, hehe. Well, won't hurt to see something like this, but honestly, there could be some vehicles or police stuff that should get priority (even an uaz). Still as it won't be that complicated to modify the bus, why not? *shrug*
-
Well I can't change the addon itself, as I use it for multiplayer and this would probably cause an error message, however I will most likely just try to modify the script and replace that (from a full prize game btw) ripped sound file with one free content sound of my choice. I for one think that continously suggesting alternatives to a non-freeware sound can be considered constructive in some way. ah well, end of story. I just change the sound for my mission....somehow.

-
So? Am I not allowed to voice my opinion and suggest alternatives or what? Afterall quite some people seem to agree with me. What you do is up to you in the end, still you should learn to not confuse bitching with constructive criticism. Like Donnervogel already said, be happy that there are no huge bugs and people are just talking about personal preferences and making suggestions. With many other addons it's the other way around. Geez...
-
ARGH!!!!Its a SOUND!!! a freaking 1.4 second SOUND!!!
Sorry guys, but this has brought me to, and beyond breaking point...
I didn't have to release this addon, but since you guys seemed to want one so bad, I thought, what the heck, lets polish it up, add mohax's kewl scripts, and make summatfun for everyone...
Now I'm begining to wish I didn't bother...
If its not the model, or the textures, you lot will find something to bitch about...
Can't you just accept it for what it is, and be greatful that people even make addons in the first place...
Sorry for being pissy, but this was the last straw, I gave you this out of the kindness of my own heart, and most of you have simply pissed on it...
/me = VERY PISSED OFF (and a might stressed)
Got a bad day, eh?
Nobody is pissing on your addon, that's for sure. Don't make a drama out of it. I just had a problem with the sound, that's all. You said it would be toggleable so that's fine with me then. Get over it ffs.

Oh and another suggestion that came to my mind:What about adding a retextured BRDM for the nogova police? The searchlight ontop would already do for a front-directed blue light.
I think that instead of fancy SWAT like units, nogova police should have something like this. Somehow I can't really think that they would have such special counter-terrorism teams on that island. Most stuff would be done by ordinary police and some feds in civilian clothes (with black GAZ24). That police BRDM would be a nice thing for demonstrations or situations where some protection is needed. Still it would be unarmed and a very rare sight on the island. Only used on some special occassions. Maybe you could add a police officer wearing a soviet style helmet and either a soviet army flak jacket or modern kevlar vest, but still with the brown police dress clearly visible. That's the most I would go in terms of SWAT like stuff. Â

EDIT: And yet another idea stroke me. Would it be too much to ask to add 1 (not two) seats at the back of the police jeep? Just add a position where another person could ride in the back. No seat model and stuff would be needed, as the person could simply use the fender/mudguard to sit on.

Something like this only better you mean?
Exactly. Just better.
Oh and regarding your question: I care.

As long as you at least add a feature to disable the sound effects, so that mappers can make use of the eyecandy light effects but still add their sounds via addaction, I have no problem with it.
However one question: If MOHAX agrees to change his sound, will you change yours, too, as you said earlier that you would base it on MOHAX choice?
-
I still think you should use another siren sound (you know which one i mean, by now
) as the current one is a German martinshorn for firetrucks, and furthermore it is ripped from a full-prize game and not free media content.Another point I'd suggest, would be to include the black GAZ24 with the enhanced siren script in the next version as well. Should not be a problem for MOHAX, I guess. That way there could be a car for the nogova "feds" that goes along nicely with those improved other police vehicles.
Another minor request would be to increase the size of the siren on the bike a little bit, and maybe add some polygons to the front lights to make them a little more round.
-
Well blackdog, I hear that martinshorn sound every goddamn day.

-
Nice work, but I really don't like the siren sound. It's from a German firetruck. The one I suggested would have been much better, in my opinion. Ah well. Is there a feature to turn the effects off completely, so a mapper could add his own effects. Furthermore the martinshorn siren isn't really well edited, making it sound a little weird when turning off, as there is no real end, but instead it ends right in the middle.
If you ever plan to release a new version, please change the siren and perhaps think about those suggestions regarding the motorcycle textures, from my previous reply.
Anyways, still a good pack and I for sure will use it in my serial killer version.
-
I hope MOHAX already spent some time adjusting his siren sound/loop, etc. with the GAZ24.
Deadmeat, you could also talk to MOHAX regarding the siren sound itself. The current one doens't loop very well. That's why some other people including me suggested new siren accustics in that GAZ24 thread. I still think that the one I suggested would be a superior choice.
Maybe you could make that GAZ24 a little less fast off-road, if that goes ok with MOHAX? That way it would complement the jeep nicely. The jeep being the off-road and field path king, while the GAZ scores on roads, while still being a tad better off-road than the other standard cars.
Even though it might not be possible or you don't want to change it, I'd still want to suggest some minor changes to the motorcycle's texture: Remove the green stripe from the fuel tank and instead add the policie tag on the white fuel tank. Remove the green spot with the policie sign from the front wheel's fender and instead paint the whole fender green.
Otherwise good work. This will be very nice in that serial killer mission, I'm modifying.
-
I will definetely include that stuff in my long time project of a modified serial killer map, which is kinda popular among the ofpec irc cliqué.
Check that thread of the GAZ-24 for a suggestion about a police siren sound, I made there. It's an older sounding siren, which fits to the theme of a nogova police force, and doesn't sound too much like those modern wheewheewhee sirens.
Regarding that bike, I agree that it needs much more green on it. Furthermore I wouldn't place the policie tag on a green background. Make it black text on white, like with the other policie vehicles.
And while you are on it. The Soviet boat could make for a nice police patrol boat with just a little retexturing in white and green. Even the pk would still fit.

$33ker @ Sep. 06 2003,17:53)]Here's a sound I got from NFSFrench police Â

Could also be from a German fire truck.

Yes that's the so called Martinshorn used here in Germany.
http://www.feuerwehrsounds.de/Hoerner.htm
But I still prefer this sound I posted earlier, as it is more neutral, and furthermore sounds a little less modern or american
-
but at less OFP tells me somethings (but not much) what i need to do to stay alive if there is a war happens in my country and i am called of for duty, and i hope the guy next to me is not a hardcore CSer
....................let him do whatever he wants. you do whatever you learned from OFP.
result is in your favor.

Not if that guy happens to be your commanding squad leader.

Oh, and from the pics blackdog posted, this one here would be a nice choice for the older model, too:

Nogova police units - update

That's good to hear, DM! Thumps up!
Any chance of a slight comment regarding the black GAZ and the civilian cops with vests, or does this fall into the surprise category already? Â
Anyway, keep up the good work. I even start to accept the Martinshorn, as I can't manage to change it anyways. Hehe Â
EDIT: Oh and when you are on those break&enter police officers, I'd suggest to give them silenced UZI and FN FAL, not AK47cz. I think these weapons are very fitting to the style and equipment level of the Nogova police force.
