    I heartfully agree on the topic of proper military doctrine. I think there are many possibilities to improve the gaming experience and make it more authentic without loosing important story elements through the campaign. It's just a matter of good level and game design. I started reworking the old resistance campaign for myself a while ago as some sort of small testing platform and tried to implement proper Russian TO&Es for naval infantry (black berets), who offer both airborne and seaborne formations and thus are ideal to represent opposing forces (that concept also works very well with FDF units, due to BTR and BMD series of vehicles). During the first missions, the units precisely follow the order of battle and you will combat units that are at full strength and fully equiped. Later in the campaign when the Russians are suffering intensely from resistance raids, the units break apart slowly and you will see much more irregular and ad-hoc formations. For example at the beginning, instead of one BTR, there will always be 3 around to represent the platoon being smallest combat formation usually. Later on, mixed combat teams of btrs, a bit of infantry and a single tank might show up, trying to represent the lack of reinforcements and how the Russian commanders try to compensate this to maintain fighting capabilities. Things like that (together with proper military accurate explanations in the mission briefing) would really help to spice up Armed Assault and make it look more authentic from a military point of view.

    I second that, Donner. FDF is not just OFP with extra recoil, the values that have been changed add together in a healthy mix, where you trade controlability (I don't want to say accuracy as the weapons are still very accurate) of small arms with reworked and more powerful damage values. So in the end, it will be harder to engage multiple targets, but those you hit usually won't stand up again. In FDF you simply have to relearn how you deal with enemies in the Real Virtuality engine. 7.62 Machineguns no longer do less damage than you average 5.56mm assault rifle does, nor do weapons with the same ammunition cause different damage. Try to behave the way you would in real-life. If you happen to benefit from army drills in the past, use the knowledge you gained, if not, use common sense - that should help you stay alive and become a good e-soldier. One thing everybody should keep in mind here is that with the increased recoil values it will be much harder to walk around like Rambo. The FDF values actually promote teamwork. You simply can't take on an enemy infantry squad on your own as easily as you can in OFP. The machinegunner soon will be your best friend right after the medic, who will patch you up when you have been shot in the arms and can't hit the broadside of a barn. If there is no medic, you will still benefit from the fire support of your squadmates. People will care for each other much more than in games, where it's either perfect condition or dead. Penalties like the ones added in FDFmod are something, which I personally don't want to miss anymore. And now find a good server and go playing...

    Also remember that you can create new defensive lines the way you want, as all the objects like barbwire fences, tank traps, trenches and bunkers can be placed freely in the editor by mission makers.

    The best thing to represent missing crew members is just to add cargo proxies at their regular positions inside the vehicle and give mappers the option to place additional AI crew, which doesn't necessary need to be of the same group as the rest of the crew. On the other hand such free crew proxies are useful, even if they remain empty. In the case you loose a tank, you can get surviving crew members into the other tanks and won't be slowed down.

    The problem is that the ppsh41 and other weapons use multiple types of magazines. In the case of the ppsh41 there is the 71rd drum mag and the 35rd hornmagazine. Each one is represented on the weapon model. The problem with AI is that unless they spot an enemy, their weapons will remain without magazine. What you could do is to trick the AI, by placing an enemy soldier as captive. This is the only known solution so far and works rather well combined with setpos commands for scripted sequences for example. Alternatively, you can just delete the captive after a second and/or set your own troops to careless in the meantime. So, while there is no actual problem with the weapons not working (the ammo is in the inventory and they will use them just fine), there will always be this minor problem of the magazines only showing up with AI soldiers after they have spotted hostile troops, unless you use the above trick.     Too bad you think of it like that. Guess the Dingo will suffer the same fate like the Fennek for multiplayer missions then. At least with the group of people I use to play and where we often include BWmod stuff into the missions. It's just a matter of fact that most serious coop groups play with external view turned off. Like I said, minor clipping issues or the inability to look around in the inside of the vehicle is something I personally would not consider as much of a problem. Making this addon basically of no use for the entire community that plays without external view however is. Anyway, I hope you reconsider, as I have my doubts that ArmA will introduce new vehicle classes. VBS1 disappointed me in this area already.

    If you give me a workaround for this engine limitation (besides using an turned out gunner) which really works I will update the Dingo. A turned out gunner would be one way, yes, but you could also have the gunner rotate inside the vehicle. The only glitch here would be that the gunner could perhaps clip into the seats, etc, which to me however is a small price to pay for a working version that can be used without external view. The weapon sights which are mounted beneath the top hatch need to be turned anyway, if you rotate the weapon. Right now they are fixed and just face forward, iregardless of how you rotate the weapon. There is nothing wrong about the current version, except for it being very much useless on servers having external view off. If that could be addressed (and same changes applied on the the Fennek) it would be a really awesome addon.

  13. Yeah it's an amazing addon. Very nice job! One thing that I'd love to see in an improved release is a weapon sight for the gunner. At the moment I can only fire the weapon (and see where I hit) with external view enabled, which usually is deactivated on our server along with crosshairs. A proper weapon sight would really add to this sweet addon.

    ATI x800xt

    Hello, a friend of me recently bought a new ATI x800xt graphics card and is regularily experiencing artefacts in OFP. The artefacts present themselves as poles that rise up into the sky. The colour is different every time, therefore it seems that these are ground or object textures that go haywire. A screenshot can be seen here. His system specs are as follows: P4 3,0 Ghz ABIT IC7-G 1 GB RAM ATI x800xt Win XP Pro Cat 4.7 DirectX 9.0 He tried without and with varying degrees of anti-aliasing and antisoptric filtering and even downclocked the card a bit. I know that this card is frankly new, but maybe there is someone out who experiences the same glitches. Thanks in advance!

    Suma, would it be possible to host a webinterface on the OFP mainpage where you can enter a key and check if it is valid or fake? Still not perfect, but you might narrow down who is is a wolf in sheep's clothing before a mission starts and kick the suspected badguys before they try anything. Of course this still won't stop people using valid IDs from other players but it would be a bit of a help perhaps.

    We had a visit by a couple of cheaters a few minutes ago. They had valid IDs which were traced back (with the help of the ESL player database where people have to enter their OFP IDs when registering) to some honest players which definitely don't cheat. The guys connected with these fakenicknames and different user IDs a couple of times and then they crashed/hung up our server through an external attack after they left. The server application had to be shut down via remote access. Isn't there anything that can be done about that?

    Uhmm. I don't think this is a RPG-26 actually. It's more an RPG-22 which is a LAW type, one-shot disposable AT weapon. This weapon is what the standard OFP RPG should have looked like right from the start. Nice work on the model and textures, but please make it a real RPG-22. It should be less powerful and the name needs an adjustment. Apart from that, good work! From the picture it looks like there is no extra folded model when you carry it on the back. That might be a nice idea for a later release.

    Realism and multiplayer, wich addons?

    I'm no Fin, but I can say that Finmod is by far the best and most realistic mod out there. I am a bit unhappy about Civilians and Resistance using Finnish voices as this limits the potential of using FDF as a basis for regular OFP missions, but it is still the best experience in terms of realism so far.
