    1.85 resistance patch discussion

I have never landed on a 'chip' before. I imagine this would be kinda tricky, if not impossible without destroying the fragile piece.

Will the pistol ammo loadouts change? There seem to be other changes to the pistols, so I hope that giving them real ammo counts has been aranged.

  4. I was wondering, if some kind of a group respawn script exists. Basically I would like to see it work so that a player controlled AI squad, would shrink with every loss. The player would be shifted from position to position in the squad if he dies and when the whole squad is wiped out, you as the leader would respawn with your full squad at a marked position (base, ..). That way it would be possible for MP games, to replace a single player slot with a whole squad under human control, without the chaos of constant single respawns. Has anyone heared of such a script, or is anyone capable of creating it?
  5. Could somebody incorporate this into the named script ?

    1.85 resistance patch discussion

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote (Suma @ Oct. 08 2002,15:30)</td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">This is very unlikely. Releasing any patch is very time consuming (and also expensive) operation.<span id='postcolor'> I can understand this Suma, but Balschoiw has a point here. Especially the Multiplayer part of OFP suffers from extensive abuse of things like this. Maybe once 1.85 has been our for some weeks, you could come up with yet another update including mainly multiplayer additions. I'm not talking about totally new game modes, but there would be several things which IMHO would improve the multiplayer possibilites even more than 1.85 will. For example, I would like to see a few more server side variables to toggle like for disabling manual fire or to specify which targets can be locked-on and which not (to stop the lock-on abuse by randomly clicking towards hostile territory in the hopes to successfully target a non-visible enemy unit.). That way, you could for example allow aircraft to be targeted the normal way, but tanks and infantry could not. Another thing is a new respawn method, which you should be able to set in the description.ext file. This new mode would spawn a player within his AI squad until the whole squad is wiped out but instead of placing him in bird-mode, he would respawn with his squad at full strength. That way, it would be likely to see more multiplayer missions in the form of CTF or C&H where every player controls his own squad. Oh, and if you would release such a patch, it would be really great to have three more east units added to the game: Ural without cover, UAZ with PK and a Mi-17 without rockets but a PK instead. Creating these units would really not be that hard, as most is based on existing models. The added variety would be ten times worth the effort of creating these units. Furthermore East and West would be a tad more balanced in terms of choice. Even though a bike will be a funny unit, guaranteed, the three East units would have been REALLY useful at least. Let me add a "very urgent" to this in the hopes to get noticed.

    New patch

W00t! This is indeed good news. I really love that they listened to us regarding the tanks. I also appreciate that they even took their time to repair some radio menue items and the like. Thumps up! However, I am a little disappointed that some problems don't seem to be rated as serious issues by the developers. Namely, this would be: Abuse of "lock-on" in muliplayer games (wildly clicking on a very far away area in the hope to catch a target box of a yet non-visible enemy unit), consistance of weapon damage (why is a 5.56 bullet from a G36E more likely to kill than a 5.56 from a M16, and why is a 7.62 not more devastating than a 5.56), missing or swapped .paa icons in the equipment menu (always this annoying mssg for green smoke and strela; g3 and fal were swapped; at4 uses carlgustav image;...), AI improvements (better pathfinding; aviation formations like seen in the resistance preview video; no more mid-air crashs;...) and a slightly more optimized radio command system (i.e. "ALL EXCEPT 2, GO TO.." instead of 1,3,4,5 GO TO..) with a rework of the radio priority so you can issue fire commands and navigation orders without having to wait until a 'enemy spotted' message is done. Furthermore, the long mentioned Ural w/o cover, UAZ w/ PK and MI-17 w/o missiles would have been easy to make but great in effect, because of the new variety. Another few features, which I would have liked to see in the patch was: Option for the tank commander to order gunners where to point the turret (badly needed for the bradley), more MP customizing variables (server-side deactivation of manual fire, ..); a more logic seat management for vehicles (be able to change seats while moving as long as this position could be reached like changing from backseat to gunner in M113 or from commander to gunner in M60, and removing the option to change from positions which could not be reached without exiting the vehicle like from gunner to driver on M1), a little rework of the full auto-mode, which will always trigger 2-5 shots (depending on the real ROF) which makes using this mode less predictable, especially for MGs; and lastly, a bipod feature for machineguns, which would increase accuracy when deployed. Don't get me wrong, the patch WILL be great. I will be looking forward to it, but these "few" things were on my personal list what i would have liked to see. Ah well, maybe with the next patch, if there will be one.

    Ultimate addon pack available!

It's just a compilation of already existing addons. Might be interesting for those who want to have everything, but for more picky people like me, it's better to just download those addons of preference, else I tend to loose the overview. It is definetly not related to the upcoming official patch, that's for sure... >Included Items< It is linked from the fileplanet mainpage, you can hardly miss it. If you still do, look it up here!
  9. Yes, I see. Thanks! I think it would be best to combine such a script with the existing Method of respawn within your squad. The only tricky thing would be to add the other stuff when the last unit dies and the game would want to place you in "bird-mode". At this time, the respawn stuff should jump in, basically creating a new unit with you in command (which would have the same specs as the unit you commanded before) and erase the bird somehow. As I could only understand such a script but never create one by myself, I am really depending on other people here. So, any takers? Please!
  10. next try...c'mon, there has to be at least someone who can say for sure if its possible or not.
  11. he is right, though, some viewpoints are kinda messed. has been brought up several times. maybe it will change, most likely however, not.

    Multiplay in ofp2

Trust me, the major part of this community is here because of the realism and not because of the arcade gameplay, which is a good thing. If the ~100 player hardcore fanbase you mentioned would indeed be that small, OFP would have never sold itself in these high numbers. My guess is that roughly 70% of the players were attracted because of the realism-oriented gameplay in the first place, and I would even guess that half of these would like to see even more realism added to the game. Realism isn't something bad. Many players claim that realism would destroy gameplay and negates fun, but I say that this isn't true. If you compare the numbers of sold copies of OFP with the small multiplayer community, you must see that many people seemed to have liked the atmosphere of the singleplayer game but had their problems with the multiplayer aspects. The thing I try to convince people of is that there are more possibilites than what current missions offer. Regarding that idea about me starting my own clans (:D ?) the problem is that at this time, the clan I'm in would not get to fight a single enemy and furthermore, because of the limit of available maps in major leagues, realism would still be far far away. Hehehe, and don't even think about telling me to build my own maps. I could play around with the editor, but when it comes to complex scripting procedures, it exceeds my capabilities. I could and would help with conceptual work but that's it. In fact I have already made several small texts with requirements. The problem now is to find some willing mission designers, addon makers and scripter. Well, let's see what the future brings, but one thing is for sure. No more G36E and pointless unrealistic scripts for me. I had Counter-Strike once in my life....that's already more than a man can bear.

    Multiplay in ofp2

The problem is still that all major leagues feature these "doom'esque" missions only. It doesn't really matter if I manage to setup a server with realistic missions only, because I have to return to the other kind of gameplay sooner or later when the clan I'm in, has to fight another clan in the ESL for example. As long as a bunch of known level designers doesn't change their attitude towards more realistic maps, and these maps slowly are accepted even in the major leagues, the whole realism project is very likely to be damned. People are simply too used to the G36E...sad but true.

    Multiplay in ofp2

Yes, realism all the way. I am kinda disappointed by the majority of the current multiplayer maps featured in leagues. It's either CTF or sector control with tons of unnecessary features like respawn medi-tanks etc.. I for one would like to see level designers concentrate on a more realistic and more believable setting. In every single map you will find tons of G36E and Steyr weapons. It just doesn't make any sense. I would like to see people return to create the atmosphere, the game originally had in the campaign. Right now, it all feels like Counter-Strike with larger maps. For me, this is already enough "Doom-esque" shoot-em-up. I want to fight squads and not single guys with G36E and LAW running through the woods.

    In game jingles

oh my god...don't spread this. It's annoying enough when playing with/against Maximus. Such a 'feature' belongs to Quake, but not to a game which tries to be somewhat realistic. It's spoils the atmosphere at least as much as Vienna's so called maps do. I wouldn't mind if the next patch would cut this play sample option again. I haven't seen it being used in a useful way yet. Just simpson/southpark/hollywood/whatever jingles.

    Bis testing server

I fully agree that they should take their time to polish (errrr czech ) the patch, but it would have been nice to get some feedback of what to expect. I assume they want to create some tension that way to keep people interested, but I fear that slowly the first players are starting to turn away in frustration for good because there is few or almost no information passed over from BIS. Probably it's not neccessary any more as the patch will most likely be released soon'ish, but I hope that they learn from this experience and improve their news sharing with the community for any further updates we might get some day. At least I would really appreciate some small bits on info for a span of 2-3 months. *shrug* Â

    Constructive criticism

First off I want to give you BIS, a big hug for Resistance. The new units rock, the new campaign is well designed and Nogova is more beautiful than i would have imagined. I have spent one day now with Resistance and want to give you some feedback on what excatly I liked and what I think could be improved. As I said above, the new missions are very well designed, but there is one thing I personally would have loved to see: variety. Apart from that new prototype helicopter, there is not a single new unit to be seen for the Russians. A sad thing when you consider that you fight them throughout the campaign. I can understand that the time for making new models was kinda limited but some small units basically being converted units already in the game would have been great already. An open Ural without the cover or 1-2 new UAZ variants come to my mind there. Easy to make, yet extremely effective in adding variety. Another thing is the stationary Russian M2. I would have loved to see this replaced by a proper Russian large calibre MG as it is featured a lot during the campaign and kinda spoils the atmosphere. Another thing I would have liked to see but which would have taken some time to make (which seems to have been problem due to all the other new units made) is some sort of new wheeled apc like that btr80 or at least another armed varient of the BRDM. I can fully understand that NATO troops didn't get new stuff (note that i don't count sidearms etc.. for that) as the new campaign simply didnt call for any new NATO stuff. The Resistance however are kinda low equiped as well. I would have loved to see some alternative resistance  grunts with Fals or G3s instead of that Czech AK47. Simply for the heck of variety. I mean, you added those great new weapons to the game, but still there is not even one unit equipt with them in the editor. If you want to add them, you have to do so via scripting, which is also kinda complicated because I have yet to find any reference on how I call the new weapons in the editor. Maybe I have simply overseen them, though. Staying with the Resistance, I have to say that some more civilian interaction with them would have been nice for me. In the original flashpoint there was that single mission where you as a russian has to fight guerillia on Malden. On that mission, there were a lot of armed civilians, giving the whole side a more Resistance like look rather than a professional Army. Furtermore I would have loved to see at least one water and one air unit for the Resistance and Civilians as well. It doesn't matter if they were used in the campaign or not, but that way mission makers would have a wider of choice of possibilities without being forced to use user made addons, which almost NO sever uses. Even without those points I mentioned up there, the campaign is still very enjoyable, though. Not only exploring the new island beside, but the design of the missions itself is extremly funny. Now, I want to point out some other things which have been suggested on the boards a hundred times, but which I still miss in Resistance. 1. The first thing of course is the physics stuff like bouncing helicopters, sliding tanks etc.. I know that these seem to be some extremely hard to do changed, but still you should really spent some time on this. Even if that bouncing is hard to master, at least the tanks could be tweaked. During the campaign there were some situations were I entered a bmp, parked on non-horizon ground. As soon as I entered, it started to rapidly move down the hill and I had my problems with bringing it under control and eventually stop it. I know, that you are aware of all this, still I think that pointing this out again and again is a good thing. 2. Staying with vehicles: One feature I suggested a while back and which I really hoped might find its way into Resistance was the ability for tank commanders to tell their gunners on where to point the turret. You can tell infantry where to look at, while clicking at that direction plus holding ALT key (or whatever key you binded for that). Why not make the same thing be possible for tank commanders. When you designate a position to look up, the AI gunner will rotate the turret to that direction, making the Bradley commander spot useable, at last. More to come, soon'ish. Feel free to post your own constructive criticism in here.

    Ofp's brdm

I assume that BIS just quickly needed an unarmed vehicle to balance with the hummer to a certain degree for that patch. Note that the in-game version doesn't even come with the small topside hatches as seen on the photos but with a huge top hatch, which basically transforms the vehicle into a cabrio. Just like with many units, BIS didn't research much, especially in the field of armour stats, yes. Maybe there will be slight changes with an upcoming patch, though. Well, most likely not, still it would be nice. If BIS adds new units via updates ever again, I would really like to see more varients of already existing units like an unarmed (or with PK) Mi-17, another Ural version without the cover (just like with the 5-ton now), an PK and AT-launcher armed UAZ, a BRDM with MG turret or AA, a hummer with 50cal, TOW or AA, etc.. etc.. etc.. The base for all these models would be existing units, basically minimizing work. I already hoped that Resistance would add the coverless truck and armed uaz at least to add some variety to the campaign, but you all know that it didn't happen. BIS, please, we need variety. Even a missile launcher on a wheeled chassis would be possible if you do it. Afterall you worked in pistols, too. It is your engine, you for sure could warp it to your needs.

    The upcoming patch

You can not call yourself a real OFP fan, if you haven't asked for another patch. To fulfill my duty, I will do this know. The last couple of months we have been waiting for a patch. I can fully understand that it will only be ready 'when its done', therefore I won't be asking for a release date. The things I would like to know instead are regarding the content of the next update. What can we expect? So far we only know about some 'small' bugfixes regarding the ghostbug and voting. The problem I see is that many people are starting to drift away from ofp due to the lack of information. Even Resistance gets old pretty fast. Will there be new units and if yes, which ones? Does this patch change any gameplay issues? Will some of the things mentioned in the 'Constructive Criticism' thread find their way into OFP? Is there any chance to include a selected number of user-made addons in the patch? What bugs will be fixed? Does the netcode get further improved? Questions over questions... It would be really great to get some answers from you guys at BIS. You did a great job in the past, please don't let us down, now. We, the fanbase, will appreciate any type of information you share with us. Afterall, the FlashNews forum has been updated on May, 15th, the last time. Thanks. Â EDIT: oh, and could someone please take care of this 'm' in the headline? it was intended to be upcoming
