    If there is really a BMD1 (2?) coming up, I hope there will be some Russian VDV units (incl. AKS74, etc..) as well. Would be nice to have a completely new army branch as opposing forces in Finmod.

    Yes Gollum1, this metallic AK47 which OFP tries to sell as AKS74U really needs an overhaul. Perhaps it would also be nice to have several versions of the weapon. The default one would be used to replace the BIS weapon and thus would be a very common sight with crew and standard speznaz soldiers. Another version could be silenced and given to a new speznaz class and yet another one could have a underslung grenadelauncher and also be used for a special speznaz soldier. Furthermore a non-silenced Bison would be sweet :-). Oh and an AKS74 (for missions against paratroopers) and a RPK74 (with dark skin like AKM74) would be very welcome as well. This would give some variety when playing FDF as or against the Russians. Maybe overkill still it would be nice Â

    1.96 problems

    Yes, everytime I loose connection, i get "no message received" with that countdown and a small red square on the lower right corner. Other players (at least those I'm in contact with) get the message "Nyles is loosing connection". Trying to switch to the desktop and revive the connection again like loading an URL in my browser (something that helps with another problem some people have, albeit very few) doesn't help. When the timer reaches 90 seconds I get disconnected from the server. The same thing happens for all the people which reported this to me. I have Windows XP installed but the included firewall is not activated. The only other thing I could think of is that I'm behind a router, which might be another reason why I'm affected by this easier than others. My hardware hasn't changed within the last six months therefore I would rule out that it might be caused by corrupt hardware. Afterall the bug was successfully fixed with 1.93b. One thing that was suggested is that maybe spyware could be another reason for this, therefore I have used another anti-spy tool and cleansed my computer again. I will keep an eye on the effect (if it presents itself)... Thx for helping out and just ask via PM or in here if you need additional information.

    1.96 problems

    No, I cannot confirm this. Patch 1.9x development is strictly controlled and there are very few changes done in the source code. There was literally no change done in the netcode since 1.95 and yet some users report the problem can be seen more often in 1.96. Moreover, the investigation we did with 1.93 did not show any single case where the connection would be lost by the things in OFP netcode control. We are therefore unable to fix this. Suma, is there any way how we can help to find the source? The increase, and I dare to say it is a massive increase, of loosing connection events definetely exists. In the German OFP multiplayer community this is a hot topic. A discussion about this was around until 1.93b which seems to have fixed a major issue for quite a large number of players that until this patch crashed2desktop or timed out on a regular basis (including me, as you know). Until either 1.95 or 1.96 the problem vanished almost completely. Of course there might have been some timeouts because of the user's internet connection or some crashes because of memory issues, but the problem of massed crashes/timeouts, especially with several players at the same time was totally gone. Now there are reports again, which indicate the return of said bug or a new bug with similar effect. The symptoms are the very same. I myself have lost connection several times during multiplayer games and know from squadmates that other players lose connection at the very same moment. For me personally the problem is not as bad as it was until 1.93b, still it happenes again at least twice a week. Many people which haven't had the problem before now report of constant loosing connection since they updated. No matter if this issue is caused by 1.95 or 1.96 it is a new problem that seems to have its root in one (or both) of the last new patches. 1.94 was almost perfect, netcode wise. It was a very stable version. The German OFP leagues start to adapt 1.96 as their requirement for participation, therefore everyone who complaints about loosing connection or crash2desktop experiences these with 1.96 client either 1.96 windows or linux servers. No 1.95 clients are present as well. I hope this information helps and please, if you need help, I guess there will be more than enough players willing to do so. Just tell us.

    The ground sliding is an OFP feature, though in current development version of FDFmod I fixed it with a simple antisliding script so its quite easy to "drive" on ground with all the planes now. Keg would it be possible to do something similar for tanks? I would love to have a bmp which doens't start to roll down a hill at 150km/h or have it slide as much as it does right now. Perhaps it is impossible to get a more realistic experience without direct changes to the game-physics but if a script would be able to improve it, I would love to have something like this.

    I prefer 1st peson view only. Afterall you have that nice freelock key, which allows you to easily move your head separately from your body. Makes up for the small field of vision imho.

    Losing connection during games......

    Until 1.93, there was a "bug" around that caused a number of players to disconnect in-game, either by dropping directly back to the desktop or by getting the red square. In both cases, the "..is loosing connection" message was displayed. The bug also seems to have affected a number of players at the same time. The most I've seen was around 4-5 players who got loosing connection at the same time. I was one of them and only knew about 2 of the others because a squad-mate was present. Anyway, this bug was fixed with 1.93 but when i installed either 1.95 or 1.96 a while ago, the bug was back. I have also noticed an increase in disconnects á la ".. is loosing connection" for other players, again. So this looks like it's the same symptoms as before. I told BIS about it, but so far got no reply, whether they can confirm this or not. I really hope they can fix this another time.

    I strongly suggest to upgrade to 1.96, dude. Especially in the cheat-prevention department, this version is the best available, but make sure only 1.96 and no 1.95 clients connect. On the linux 1.96 only 1.96 clients can connect anyways, though. No matter when the final 1.9x patch will be released, I will still upgrade my server to the most recent version available.
  12. I hope that it will be possible to create a script that will delete those spawned packages once the bug is triggered. Hopefully though, it will be possible to differenciate between those packages the player puts down intentionally, like giving ammo to other players and those packages that are caused by the bug. The perfect thing would be a solution provided by BIS, but as they stated that they won't be able to fix all bugs that have been around in OFP for a long time, I don't think this is going to happen.

    I just hope that M.M.P. reverts back to the MG3 sound I sent them and which was used (even though maybe a little bit modified) in the Unimog and MAN truck addons. Since the Marder was released and I installed it, this sound has been changed to a very crappy Mg3 sound, which kind of reminds me of a Counterstrike sniper sound. I don't want to sound too fond of myself, but the previous sound really was much more accurate. Â

    Addons should generally go the FDF way for Radar. Only problem is that this requires to base the addons completely on FDF stats, which I guess many addons would not be willing to do, as they want to stay independent. Nevertheless, FDF is the most realistic of all mods out there and if you aim to make things "real", any addon maker should consider to at least create additional versions of their mods with finmod compatability.

    Yes they are full aware of the problem, afterall they fixed it with 1.93 and its extensive logging feature before. Until 1.95 or 1.96 it was gone and now it seems to be back. Reason unknown.

    One thing I have noticed (and which I wrote in a mail to BIS) is the return of the timeout/loosing connection bug, that was present until 1.93b. I don't know whether the reason for are different client/sever versions of OFP or something else. So far, I have encountered this on a large range of servers, since I installed 1.95 and 1.96 afterwards. Even on 1.96 windows servers with a mix of 1.95 and 1.96 clients, the bug has come up several times. Once the improved windows server is out that only allows 1.96 clients to connect, I will hopefully see if the reason are mixed versions. If not it would be very much appreciated to fix this bug before the final 1.9x patch is released. Can anyone else confirm increased loosing connection messages / timeouts when playing online? It doesn't matter if it was you who timed out (red square) or if you noticed the message to come up with other players.

    Are the FDF Pasi (the 6 wheeled apc) or the BTR60 and BTR80 different car classes? The mgs on the top do have a working sight there. Maybe it is the way your sight is coded. If the sight would be fixed in the turret so that if the weapon is moved upwards the sight would follow this. That way the weapon would always fire to the middle of the screen and thus make a proper scope possible.

    Another thing I noticed, which isn't really a bug but more a design flaw is that it is very hard to aim when the crosshair is disabled. Some of the vehicles, like the OT-64C don't have a proper weapon sight in the turret, so you have to aim by adjusting the weapon by observing the tracer fire. Furthermore, some of the engine sounds do stutter a bit, as if the engine sample isn't really modified to present a well sounding loop. Once the sample ends, there is a small pause and then it starts over again. Could be improved a bit by editing the sound file.

    Great work! I noticed some bugs, though: -the track speed on some vehicles looks odd. The track moves way too slow compared to the actual speed. -some of the wheels seem a little displaced, as they don't rotate properly. there is a slight vertical offset everytime the rotate. (OT62 Para for example) -the commander view of the OT62 is a little buggy as well. When using the external view, you can see the periscope move outside the vehicle when looking around. furthermore you can't seem to rotate the persiscope in 1st person view. -the amphibious vehicles should sink more into the water, at least so you can't see the wheels/tracks anymore.

    Nice work! I would like to see two versions of the tractor to show that these are civilian ones taken during mobilisation and not military units. There isn't neccessarily the need to have different tractor models, but at least a non-camouflaged (speak: civilian) tractor and another one in a different makeshift camouflage (maybe with some finnish pattern or at least some brown spots on the green?) would really add to the feeling that these things are unique and not mass-produced for military application. Btw, how will the tractor perform? Will it have a joint which turns/tilts or is it a static trailer that moves like the tractor does?

    You don't got my point. The reason why we get beta patches since 1.92 came out last autumn is that they don't cost much. They will continue to do so until they think the version will do and then they will release a final patch for OFP. I don't really care if this will take another 3 months or so, the fact alone that they WILL release a final patch eventually is reason enough for me to love them! What could be done about the splitting of the community is more public relations work on behalf of BIS like even announcing BETA patches on the OFP mainpage and provide the download in the files section. I think that many people don't know where to get the files after they didn't find them on the OFP mainpage. Sad but true. Nevertheless, BIS has done the mulitplayer community a very big favour by fixing all the cheating and crashing issues that have been in OFP, with the patches since 1.92. Cheers!

    The point is that if they want to release a proper (non-beta) patch, BIS would have to send it along for Codemasters QA where it has to undergo intense testing until it is released as an official patch. Sending along a beta patch every few weeks probably is 1) costly and 2) unneccessary, considering you want to release a *beta* patch to see if other bugs come up and if everything has been fixed like intended. Then you send the stuff over to CM. While you would have to pay real beta-testers to do the job for an official patch, a beta patch has the advantage that the community can be used as beta-testers, which 1) offers a wider range of different pc-systems and 2) is cheaper. Personally I don't mind the beta patches. They did a lot of good in the past and the splitting of the community isn't that problematic either. The only thing I would have liked to see is that ALL beta patches would have only been compatible to servers with exactly the same version. That there would have been two types. 1.91 and the 1.9x beta stuff. Currently I have a seperate .exe for starting 1.91, 1.92, 1.93, 1.94, 1.95 and now 1.96, just for the case I want to play on a yet not updated server.
