I've been following the events and I feel really down, now. I know it's "just a game", but it's 5 years of work! And I was really looking forward to play it this month, or at least this year. But now it seems it has been delayed until April 2004 - and a playable version seems to be "available" throu P2P or somewhere. I don't know what I'm going to do, but I for sure will buy HL2 as soon as I can! Anyways I feel a moderator is going to lock this thread.

The source code of Valve's upcomeing game Half-Life 2 has been leaked and released on the net. Visit http://www.planethalflife.com or http://www.halflife2.net for more details. Didn't we just talk about computer security? Those guys use outlook on the same machines they use for their dev work... Great...

You guys are overly critical towards anything that "might" be a rival to OFP.

On 14 September the people in Sweden are going to vote about introducing the Euro as their currency or keeping the Krona. Current polls show the "no" voters are leading, despite a huge pro Euro campaign, but it is very close and it's still open which side will win. Would it be wise for the Swedes to join the Euro-zone or should they better keep their freedom to decide in the future? What will the rest of Europe gain or lose, depending on the swedish vote? And how will Sweden's decision affect opinions in other EU member countries which have not yet joined the Euro-zone, e.g. the UK?

I hate it when people leave. Good bye! Scandinavian languages drive me crazy. They feel like im this || close from understanding them... but then I fail. Ok here comes my translation I get when I try to guess the meaning: "I can (huh?) say that I (what the...??) understand why you leave, man(?) I hope that you come back.. (more huh???)." Then comes something about "my" whatever and "Norway", probably you want to visit him there. And then "We can drink a cup of coffee there." Anywhere close to its real meaning?

The only question remaining is, is it able to replicate food? "Tea, hot"

Did you try this yet?: Right click on the executeable, select the memory tab and play around with the settings, often simply maxing out everything works. Â Will try that with Pacific Strike now. edit: Didn't work either. "EMS driver isn't VCPI compliant"

Oh Strike Commander. Â WOW even better they have Pacific Strike, too! Â edit: Always wanted to have them back then but never got the chance.

Because some of them had influence on the developement of FPS. In what way did Lords of the Realm(a turn based strategy game) influence shooters? I don't know what bars it raised either. Had it been RTS I would have said...Dune II of course. Then C&C and Warcraft I. Basically every RTS derives their ideas from these games. If any RTS tried to raise the bar a little it would have been RON but it hasnt been a massive hit so far. BM I was more talking about Ultima Underworld with it's 1st person 3D graphics.

From a "die hard fan" pov it's rather good not to have everyone and his grandma play this game. Best example is a certain HL mod that used to be interesting until it suddenly was mainstream. On the other hand it's clear from a developer point of view you want to sell what you make to as many people as possible. So go ahead and promote OFP2 as much as you wish (I'm generous today eh) as long as you don't pull a HL2.

I hate 3rd person, reminds me of playing with dolls. 1st person draws me so much more into the game. Sorry for hi-jacking the thread.

What denoir said, except I'd throw Ultima Underworld (1+2) into it, although they are a completely different genre.

It wasn't "somehow leaked", it was just an early release by the german "Gamestar" magazine, the release should have been on 6. october. But as far as I know it is the official demo, I think i read a dev note on the Ubi forum about that. And I have to say I'm as much a newbie as every nubceak when it comes to flight sims, but after spending some times learning the controles I'm starting to get the hang on it. And I enjoy it.

Don't know if that helps you, but don't enable engine wash when you play with FSAA. And look for updated drivers, maybe that helps. Btw driving through cities with the A-10 is fun, too, but be carefull and stay on the roads as you will get stuck on fields and meadows. I think next time I will see what happens when I try to drive the plane into the sea.
-
I was flying the A-10 mission with unlimited fuel and ammo and it was so much fun. I literally bombed every building, bridge, vehicle etc. I saw while I flew around the map for more than two hours, until the demo crashed to desktop. Did you know there is at least 1 ship in a harbour in the south? I'll buy the game when it's out.

Haha I was indeed dogfighting it for a long time, but at least a few minutes, then the Mirage was out of ammo or bingo fuel and decided to ignore me (or maybe was frustrated because I was invulnerable ), and just flew home, I followed it but was unable to lock a missile onto it because I had no clue how and cycleing through various radar modes didnt seem to help but rather quick we both arrived at the airfield and I managed to land my Mig without crashing it. (Yea I even figured the wheel break thing) Then I tried to shoot all my cannon ammo into the air but realized I had unlimited ammo enabled. I also realized the program simulated even the recoil of the cannon and I was moving a bit backwards. "Hell" I though, "this could be fun" and continued shooting. This got me faster and faster and when I reached the end of the runway I had almost -200 whateverspeedunitthatis. I hit the brakes again and stopped, started the engines again and the afterburner and took off. Flew around a little bit more, then noticed that funny red flashing light on the left trying to tell me something. I realized I was out of fuel, but just ahead of me was this long straight road. Airbrakes on, gear down and a nice landing on that road. Then I pressed ctrl-e and bailed out. Now I'm waiting at this road for someone with a tow-bar that fits my Mig-29.
-
How am I supposed to shoot anything down? Even with no damage and infinite ammo I'd unable to lock on that Mirage, let alone shoot it down. I know, knowing the keys would help. But there are just too many of them. And in what order am I supposed to press them? I hate arcade games, but I really lack experience with a flight sim. And so I'm getting owned again and again... If I could at least read the HUD. Maybe someone has a step by step guide for a flightsim nub like me how to beat that Mirage, like 1. Press key "a" for blabla... 2. Press key "b" to activate blablabla and so on.

I think it boils down to the question: Is there another way to achieve the same "kill the terrorist leader" without such excessive civillian casulties? If such a way exists and is actually possible and worthwhile, the soldiers have not only the right, but the duty (from the perspective of international law concerning military violence) to refuse. Unnesseserily harming civilians is a war crime. But if it is actually the only way to do it, the soldiers would have to follow the orders, since a limited amount of un-aviodable "collateral damage" is acceptable, afaik.

Although I know nothing about flight sims and flying in general, this is the game that's probably going to change that. So this demo will save my weekend. (= Maybe I will even forget the HL2 delay over this! . . . maybe not...

With pressure high enough you can cut steel with water!

Not exactly a simple issue. I have the highest respect for those who stand up to their believes and even risk prison for it.

Sounds like a fair deal! Schröder you get my vote in the next election.

There will be conditions, but they won't be like you or me would like them to be, only some minor stuff I fear... I'm all for the EU telling Bush to f*** off, but it's not going to happen? Why? Because there is no unified European position. We can't even get everyone to agree to a common currency, let alone challenge the last remaining superpower. Then look at some of the soon-to-be-EU-members, like Poland etc. they are more closer to the UK and US position than to France or Germany. Currently the EU can't do nothing when it comes to such vital questions, it's every country on its own. If we get a European foreign ministry or something like that maybe that will change. But until we convince the people in the member states to give up a lot of national souvereignity to a federal body, we'll have to stick to what we have. France, Germany and whoever shares their position just don't get enough backup from other EU countries to tell Bush to "get lost" like you said it.
