Ι usually place and empty helicopter somewhere safe and place a pilot unit near it. I give the pilot a "move" waypoint near the chopper and then another "get in" waypoint on the chopper. Then I put the another (or many) "move" waypoint which is where I want the chopper to end up (picking me up, attacking something etc). Then I sync a trigger with the pilot's first "move" waypoint. That way the game starts and the pilot moves to his first waypoint and waits there until the trigger is activated by me or the enemy depending on your mission. If the trigger is activated the pilot gets in the chopper and flies to the place I want without wasting any fuel.

Seriously dude. You don't want a mod. You want another game built from scratch. Arma is mostly about handling a few units from first person view as well as being able to use planes, tanks and vehicles.. You want a FULL WAR SIMULATION. Not an fps game.

I have the same keyboard but I find it hard to change my Fkey/number combo. I guess it's all reflexes for me now.

I never use GL. I can't stand it! Same goes with hand grenades. I always throw them away and pack loads of ammo instead.

I think that you have to make their waypoint behavior "safe" to make them move in a column. Also you should only give a waypoint to the leading unit and group them to that unit. I am not sure if that will help but that's what I do.

I dislike two major facts. One is this HDR effect when I am in a helicopter. My squad looks all washed up. I know they are trying to simulate the natural reaction of our eyes in darkness but they took it too far. I have been in dimly lit places before and I haven't noticed GLOWING FACES! The other is that I usually play with my friends over LAN which is in my house. I have four pcs for that reason. My main pc is powerful enough and runs the game no problem. The other three are not SO good which means that my friends will suffer a bit. And I don't think they will be willing to spend 50euros for a game that plays bad. Apart from those two, I am really happy! And patches will only make it better so, I am a happy man.

Yeah that makes sense. If there is a button you press to bring it up, like the watch or the compass I have no problem. I am talking about a permanent minimap like the one in COD4. I don't approve of that. I didn't know there was a gps in Arma anyway and I am used to playing like this.

In my country all men have to go to the army unless there is a very important reason like mental illness or some kind of handicap. And since we are not at war with anyone right now (and hopefully we will never be) we spent our time doing guard duty, washing dishes and maintaining the camp (cleaning, painting fences, greasing machinery etc) Arma was an imaginary extention of my army years. Good stuff!

Oh, COME ON! Of course they are!! Some dude made a terminator addon for Arma back then. That thing held a damn minigun that was strong enough to level a building with a few bursts. And it had a massive scope too! Where do you draw the line? Imagine what will happen if people start playing multiplayer games using their own favorite addons... Anti-tank machineguns anyone? Rapid fire rocket launcher mounted on a bike, why not? Apart from that, there is also the problem that when you enter a game with your addons (player, vehicle, aircraft, weapon or gameplay addons) all the other players in the server must receive this addon on from you in order for it to function and appear correctly!!! There are addons that change gameplay. Who will decide what is acceptable or not? I too dream of a game where I can customize my character, buff him up and let him loose in the game world. ARMA is not it!

Minimap? You mean a map that floats magically in front of your head? Will it be attached with a fishing line on your helmet? It's one thing to have HUD elements that show you stuff like rate of fire (since it would be ineffective to look at your weapon switch, given that you control a human being with a bunch of keys) and a whole other thing to have a map of the area always in your sight. It makes no sense! Same goes with the crosshair. It shows you the direction your weapon points to. The HUD is there to provide you with information that you are unable to have because of the fact that reality is presented on a screen. A minimap is completely surreal. Do you have a minimap in your sight when you are walking around your house?

No, wait -what? You just direct the launcher to the arma2.exe (probably located in c/program files/bohemia/arma2). If your mods are placed in the main directory of Arma2 (following the correct file structure @mod/AddOns/*.pbo) the program will autodetect them (under "detected potential mods list). Create a new favorite and save it. All you have to do then, is to activate the ones you want (you'll see them appear on the "active mods" list in the middle) and then you save and launch. You don't have to "tell" the launcher where the mods are. Look:

That's right unless you prefer a faster and more organized way. Download ArmaLauncher. http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=410 It's a little program that adds addons and automatically makes modifications to the shortcut without you needing to write something. You place the addons like the dude said above in a folder named @addonname and another folder inside called AddOns (that contains the pbo files etc). Then you run the Arma Launcher program. Find your Arma2.exe and Arma Launcher will find the @addons for you and put them on a list on the right. Then you create a new profile and name it somehow. Save it like.. I don't know "Arma2Modded", "ArmaSound", "ArmaRealism" or something. Then you can pick the addons you want from the list, save again and click Launch Arma. There is also another list that allows you to add -nosplash commands etc. You don't have to modify your shortcut at all. You can create many profiles depending on how you what the game to run. For example you can have a Vanilla Arma profile to play on the internet. Then a profile with graphics enhancements or exotic weapons. Maybe you have some user made cars or weird aircraft that you want. Just pick the addons you want from the list, save the profile and play. That makes it easier to remove addons that create problems without having to go into the shortcut properties and remove the commands. It's good stuff!

I think the crosshair is a bit too precise. I don't use it because I AM A MAN but some of my friends get carried away and piss me off. :) How about removing the vertical thing in the center and increase the space between the reticules. Now the cross hair looks like this: ]'[ and it's too precise. The middle thing points exactly at the center even when you are shooting in the 100m range. I was thinking about something like this: ]____ [ that opens up even more when you move around. That way you know where the center of the screen is (to point at crates, open doors, heal mates etc) and at the same time you cannot target anything that isn't very close. Of course you wouldn't have to read this if the OP had provided some screenshots! :)

I am of few lucky ones that didn't get any serious problems. Apart from a couple of crashes and a mission that I had to restrart because that woman wouldn't follow me. And I must mention that the game doesn't perform THAT well, considering my pc is brand new and a damn beast too. The Arma series were always about compromise. Fiddling with graphics, awaiting patches and a few other things that are annoying to the average gamer but are considered almost standard for the veteran players. Now, I understand your anger - I would be pissed off too if I couldn't enjoy a game I bought. But let's give them some time. As I said before, BI tried to cram a whole lot into this game and keeping things balanced is a feat by its self. Most of us have been there before. Let's chill out. I didn't play Armed Assault for six months after I bought it because my pc was unstable for it. But I waited and ... you know, when you wait good things come to you or something.

I think it's fine. I don't know about lag. I don't see any significant lag in mouse movement except of a very little one that apparently simulates the weapon weight. I am fine with that! Zoom without optics: As I see it, the human eye has a much better resolution than our screens. But since 5x4m screens are too expensive, this extra zoom simulates what we could actually see if we tried a bit... which is a whole lot of detail if you ask me... Same goes with the fix zoomed thing. What do you propose it would be? As it is when you see through the optics or as it is when you zoom through the optics? Don't forget that the extra zoom, which is great for long distances, makes your general view smaller, thus reducing your awareness in an intense firefight where enemies can appear from every direction. So, you use the sights without zooming for medium target distances (or inside towns etc) and zoom+sights for long distances where losing a bit on the sides doesn't really matter since the enemy is far away. It's a good system and it works. I don't see why they should make it simpler. If we wanted simpler I guess we would play something else. To make my self clearer. COD4 doesn't need an extra zoom because you never kill enemies that are 500m away. Arma needs it.

I was making a 'living city' for fun. You know.. pedestrian crowds walking around. Others where 'dismissed' in the middle of a park enjoying the spring morning, a bus was making rounds in the city stopping in every bus stop, a police car patrolling, a plane was flying over the airports, some "women" waiting on the side of the road, fishing boats in the port etc. So I was just chillin with my rocker friends when WHAM a bus runs over an old lady! The driver jumps out in horror, runs in front of the bus, examines the body and walks around for a bit, possibly trying to weigh his options. Then he jumps in the bus again to drive off but he hits another woman and freaks out. Oh no! A double hit n run??? With witnesses? Some civilians could stand the horror and did the 'crouch in fear' thing for added drama. He calmly walks out of the bus again and lies prone just as a police car arrives on the scene. The stopped bus was of course blocking the road and that made the policemen crash too and disembark... I mean they were about to arrest the felon. I was just standing there watching this drama unfold... it was weird!

Running is your problem here? They walk! They are reanimated corpses that walk! I don't see you complaining about that!

Well a human can survive many days without food. Water would make more sense (you can put triggers that reset the "sustenance meter" everytime a player stands in front of a well or lake). But it would be even better if the players scavenged for some sort of andidote or something until they get a cure? Dunno just saying.

That reminds me of Arma with the female reporter unit with the CLAWS OF DEATH! Man that was some scary shit! Still, someone has to make playable or at least armed women. I want to give theM all bikes and sniper rifles. Come on! Do it!

Yes, every time you install Arma creates a default profile using your windows name. It doesn't matter if you deleted it. It will create another one. get it?
