  1. The greatest problem in the series is

I didn't buy the game, because my machine couldn't run the demo.

    Make it like Flashpoint.

I think this would attract more players -escpecially BF and COD -fans

Most people in this forum like the fact that you have to be extra careful and constantly on guard, but I don't. I prefer straight action. People like different things.

And finally, it saddens and angers me to see how much hate there is on these forums

Bottom line: the engine is great for war , but it's being used wrongfully.

You come here to unload your huge pile of **** and then wonder why people rage?

Bottom line: Troll somewhere else cause you can´t be serious!

  2. That ArmA 3 'Mi-48 Caiman' or just simply 'Hamok' helicopter should be replaced with this futuristic Hind helicopter.

Why? Because it's just freaking awesome!

Although I have to admit that this is the coolest looking helicopter of all time... it can´t possibly be that effective when a girl can throw a spear at it and kill the crew inside

  3. I´m just throwing in some points. Feel free to ignore or not:

    - Don´t we already have a grass mesh layer in the distance since ArmA I?

    - Wouldn´t shadows in the distance put a huge stress on performance?

    - Aren´t there far more important things than foxholes that need fixing before adding more features that only have little effect on overall gameplay - like fixing the netcode for example?

No offense, no irony, no sarcasm.. just simple questions!

  4. Chernarus wasn't enjoyable? Why? Because it didn't allow 10km view on a mid-range?

I have a mid-range and I think chernarus was perfectly playable at ~3km, as an mp host no less, and it was unrivaled in terms of gameplay -- thanks greatly to forests breaking up visibility, provide cover from air, forcing firefights closer. AI navigates forests better than urban areas. And tall grass also gives AI some much needed advantage.. Not to mention beautiful. and much more. Chernarus is BIS' finest work so far in my opinion.

Takistan has its merits, but the far too many and much too tall, dull and empty mountains and far too small and narrow greenzones did it few favours.

I'm sure lemnos will be cool even if it doesn't have forested areas, but I for one would like to see some.

Of course Chernarus is BIS finest "island" yet made, but only from a graphical point of view. I bought a new PC specifically for ArmA II just before release.

The recommended (not the minimum specs) were:

    - Quad Core CPU or Dual Core CPU (Intel Core 2.8 GHz, AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400 + or faster)

    - Memory 2 GB RAM

    - Graphics hardware Nvidia Geforce 8800GT, ATI Radeon 4850 or faster (with Shader Model 3 and 512 MB VRAM)

    My PC has a 3.0 Ghz quad, 4GB DDR2+ RAM and a Nvidia GTX260 with 896MB.

And I tell you I can´t play in those dense forrests without heavy frame rate drop! I´m not satisfied with playing max 20 fps. Now add godmode AI who sees you through bushes + grass and voila you get your own unplayable forrest experience.

I tried to overcome this problem with lowering my medium settings to low but you´ll always spot enemies after they spotted you (thanks to disabled AA and 3d resolution of 100%, btw don´t even bother going lower than that cause you´ll see through the eyes of an 80 year old).

For a PC that is above the recommended specs it is just not acceptable to have such a hard time in forrests, but as I said before, the same thing happened on Sahrani and many complaint about this.

I played ArmA I again yesterday with max settings and it was a joy walking through the forrest. I don´t know why BIS kept insisting on raising the poly models for the trees in ArmA II. The tree model from ArmA I are just as beautiful...

  5. Chernarus was too picture-perfect - it really didn't fit the whole "war" thing. I think that's a problem with everything in ArmA though, it's too uniform and clean, I've yet to see a picture of a soldier in a combat situation/even training that looks half as clean/uniform as the guys in ArmA.

Chernarus doesn´t look so clean when played in full detail and high viewdistance (especially with grass enabled). Just today I bothered installing Armed Assault I (one) again to see how my graphics card would perform with high details enabled. I managed to play everything on very high including a 10km viewdistance and yes with perfectly acceptable framerates.

THIS is an unbelievable atmosphere! You can tell every neat little detail and together with no LOD switching, no warping of far away units whatsoever it feels af it you were actually there.

The bad performance, with medium and lower high-end PCs most of us have, on Chernarus is one of the many reasons why they dont like playing on this island (including myself). It is still a pain in the ass to fight in a forrest with those uber-high-poly model of a tree. The same applied to Sahrani´s nothern part, where the PCs of that time had the same problems with the vegetation.

Guess thats like a curse for this series. Once the PCs are capable enough to play the game in full detail, the successor is already released and it starts all over again...

But hey in case of Lemnos I´m not so sure. As far as I can tell it is mostly free from larger forrest and could actually be really enjoyable for most of us.

And btw: there is no such thing as "war-scenery". Wars can break out everywhere in the world. It is all about the atmosphere that makes you believe that you are in a war and that is by far not an issue of the island choice. ;)

  6. Killed many tanks and APCs with the AS50 as well, long before it became the norm in PMC.

Probably not even ten rounds into a specific track wheel and the crew bails out, I love getting to the nice mushy contents of a tin can and it leaves it in good nick for one of your own engineers to repair it.

If you really want to screw up a tank, sneak up on it and crawl underneath with a satchel, set to thirty and leg it.

Ain't no Trophy or reactive armour saving it then, unless the fly bastards have fitted it underneath too. :(

Guess you never stop learning things about ArmA... thanks for the hint with the AS50! Going to try that some time :D

  7. I put up a mission where we had lots of at guys with SMAWS and javelins against a bunch of T 90s.

The soldiers shot as much as they could but the tanks almost didnt care and just started shooting(of like 6-7 tanks 1-2 was destroyed). I shot two smaw rounds on one tank and it survived and killed me.

I just put a T90 100m in front of me, shot a single SMAW on one of its tracks and... crew bailed out. Any questions? ;)

  8. What are you facing for tanks? some T90 survived several rounds from the SMAW when I played, and several also survived being hit by javelin.

Thats rather a rare event. Most of the time a single SMAW can damage one of the tracks and we all know that the AI immediately jumps out of the tank after it realizes that they are immobilized (that happens instantly)...

  9. How the AI far away should support the player/AI if they are deactivated? Isn't it somehow weird and immersion breaking if the player can see those deactivated AI's and within a certain distance they get activated/online??

No I think they are activated outside of actual viewdistance to not break the immersion. I like the idea very much cause you are not restricted to go anywhere but at the same time you will see plenty of action once you arrive where you want.

Having a large scale island and CPU-heavy AI just needs those kinds of workarounds. I was thinking myself of a solution for this common problem for a long time. It is really hard with the means we have right now. Maybe a module would be the easiest yet most complete way of doing this.

  10. some little thing I notice watching the Alpha version in the E3 presentation, was, that there was not flickering textures, 3dobjetcs rendering LOD glitch whatever. Everything seems fluid and perfect. I want to see how the sound works, distant shots, explosions, vehicles

Yeah but this has always been the case for BIS presentations/trailers.

Guess all it takes is a pc with current medium to high spec hardware and a clean, defragmentated HDD to achieve the same results.

But it would be still interesting to know the specs and especially the size of the monitor of the equipment used at E3.

  11. that is a good 3D scope, also I see you can zoom In a little bit. BIS can implement this with the normal keys holding the RMB to zoom In, putting your eye close to the scope

Thought the same thing. Pressing V puts the gun in center of your sight, pressing RMB puts your point of view closer to the scope and the +/- numpad keys regulate the zoom factor.

  12. They all just turn up to work and switch seats each day.

...do you really think it matters all that much?

Yes I do especially after seeing how BI developers start extensively posting stuff in these forums. It tightens the connection between the community and them and this is why I´d like to know who we´re talking to in the first place :)

Also key positions like PR manager, director, lead-designer etc. don´t switch normally.

I haven´t seen any company who doesn´t have some kind of staff list on their website... *they´re hiding something I tells ya!* :D

  13. Just to calm you down, I guess I can tell you that this is just a feature we're playing with in the campaign missions to boost the framerate. In the end it might become a standalone module, but we've never discussed implementing it into the core engine.

Thats what I expected from BIS! :yay:

Seriously I´m not afraid of anything new implemented to the ArmA series as I know that great care is taken to persevere the core elements of this title. ;)

It's good for fps with lot's of AI. We have it in the MSO and a sleep mode also; it does not affect gameplay. :)

Do you mind telling me what MSO is and how you disabled AI (disableAI command or another way)?

  14. Gotta say, wasn't really interested in it before but the demonstration perked curiosity, it is good to hear that they are keeping to the book wether realizing it or not. Marriage between RTS and FPS had great skepticism but...seems to work out rather well..

Same here. I couldn´t even imagine what this game would look like or even what it was about, but that Sci-Fi setting totally appeals me.

I played EVE Online for about a year and they were about to create a game called "Dust 514" for consoles exclusively which lets you fight with sci fi weaponry on planet surfaces. I was totally jealous of consoleros that time but I guess we PC players have something similar now :bounce3:

Btw I believe that would have been another great title that would have gone by unnoticed cause of missing advertisment... glad it turned out otherwise thanks to our determination to see ArmA III :p
