    Another way of advancement

Exactly. I came to realize that VBS might be the driving motor behind ArmA. You can develop fancy stuff for the military, which you can sell for hundreds of dollars and then use the experience + engine advancements to build a game for the public gaming market. That´s an unique constellation between serious simulation devlopment and gaming business. It has also been a long road from ArmA I, which was forced to release cause money went short, up until now. Meanwhile BIS gained the title of the biggest gaming studio in Czech after buying those smaller studios, which on their own produce titles now. I´m glad they survived (thanks Darwin!) and even managed to not be bought by some huge company, but rather kept and still keep on growing steadily while maintaining their independence. Thats the way to go for the best developer ever!

    E3 - Arma 3?

A computer that can... play ArmA smoothly?? Thats blasphemy! Such thing does not exist in the world of the mortal! :D Seriously I think playing ArmA III with recommended settings will be far from smooth. That´s one thing I learned in all those years playing BIS games *g*

    Chopper blades and props handling.

So after some serious complaints from users about the rotors in ArmA II, BIS decided that this is how rotors will be in the final version of ArmA III: eJ6vadFVjYg YOU HAPPY NOW!? :D

    E3 - Arma 3?

For everyone following the E3 (or those interested in doing so): http://e3.gamespot.com/live-cam-tour/?live_cam= That´s a stream made by gamespot. There are two camera men, with shoulder mounted cameras and equipped with an smarthphone to keep contact to their website. They keep constantly tracking some sort of chat or something (didnt fint out where exactly it is) and try to fulfil as many wishes as they can by users. Camera 1 was in the west hall today and camera 2 was in the south hall (thats the one where BIS has its booth -> http://www.mapyourshow.com/shows/index.cfm?show_id=e311&booth=2803&CFTOKEN=5792694140dc8cea-3EBF6AD8-F472-8C34-BF4157D9E5EFDDAD&CFID=16562629&exhid=boh9829&userid=〈=en&locale=en - it is booth number 2803) I fast forwarded through the the recorded material (4hrs of which approx 1h was pure downtime due to technical reasons) of camera 2 but couldn´t find any glimpse of BIS´s booth. Luckily I could hear the guy from camera 1 saying, that they will switch the halls on Day2 and he explicitly said that he was going to booth 2803 to see ArmA. I´ll try my best to watch the live stream on Day 2 (tomorrow/today in whatever zone you live) and try to pinpoint the time when he goes to BIS, so that you guys can watch it afterwards. :)
  10. It´s really shocking to see all those flame wars between BF and CoD players in the comment sections of those games on Youtube. And I´m talking about real low type of flaming mainly by 12 year olds. I´m so glad to be part of the great BI-community!
  11. Seriously I loved that trailer and it is the reason why I began looking for details about Battlefield 3 for the first time. I haven´t touched anything related to CoD or BF in YEARS (except BF:play4free 2 weeks ago). Guess thats because I´m a die-hard-fan of ArmA and other simulators (especially flight sims) and all that mainstream garbage bores the hell out of me. I wonder if I should keep a close eye on BF3 until ArmA III is finally released..?

Are there any new pictures of the BIS-Bunker (hehe love the sound of that term) at E3? I´d love to experience some atmosphere from there :)

Guess most of the guys here have been waiting as long for ArmA I + II. Thanks to BIS we´re quite skilled in patience :p

Omg thank you so much for that information! I totally understand that this is not an official statement and things may change but I really appreaciate knowing that you keep compability in mind during the development process :bounce3:

    E3 - Arma 3?

http://www.zing.cz/screenshoty/2625/arma-3/image-43908#image=43909 Those character models look EXACTLY like the ones used in EVE Online! But I guess they have nothing to do with each other... One thing I noticed is that we have not seen any models from ArmA II except maybe that F35 (although it looks at if it was remodeled from scratch). http://www.zing.cz/images/thumbnails/bigthumb/8dd520a6-43914.jpg This throws up the question to backwards addon compability. Do you guys think there will be a possibility to port offical/fanmade addons from ArmA II to III? You also have to keep in mind that all those new features like the weapon assembling, changeable clothes and physics all suggest that a major overhaul of ArmA II addons would be mandatory in order to be able to port em to ArmA III succesfully... http://www.zing.cz/images/thumbnails/bigthumb/d27d5404-43877.jpg http://www.zing.cz/images/thumbnails/bigthumb/3ff8cf3c-43883.jpg http://www.zing.cz/images/thumbnails/bigthumb/5468351d-43908.jpg It´s a scary/sad thought to think that we might loose many great community models! :(

    Arma 3 engine

Completly agree with that one. But I can also understand people suggesting to switch to another engine. It is because they see that many current flaws of ArmA II were there since OFP and not much has changed since then. Their conclusion is that the reasons for this can only be found deep inside the core, letting the engine appear unsuitable for further development of next-gen-games. To clarify my point: The call for switching the engine is just an indirect and (my guess) amateurish way of stating that the current engine needs some urgent and heavy overhaul in some basic key points like animation system, artificial intelligence, multiplayer-netcode or physics to name some of them, to be able to keep up with current game-technology. Thats surely something we all would love to see. :)

    E3 - Arma 3?

Yeah totally! :bounce3: I guess it has symbolic value as the last frontier of quality game design and support for the community against all that crap outside like CoD MW 74 :D It´s kinda crazy but I totally feel myself as part of the "underdog-company" BIS and I love seeing them taking on the fight against all the other international heavy weight titles and companies out there in Los Angeles :292: Fowley: "Go for it Dave!!.. erh Maruk!"
  18. After some months of ArmAbstinence I came back to find version 7 of this great script. I´m trying to get into it but so many things have changed since 5... This is by no means meant to be a flame post or anything but you really have to overwork your tutorial on your homepage. The text is hard to understand because you use special terminology in every sentence like : "Autoflag = declaring Base Types" - thats a perfect example on how not to use a "=" because Autoflag is a function within the script set and it requires declaring base types but does not equal it. Furthermore: Whats a Base Type? Whats a Simple Flag Trigger? Are there other Base types that dont need such Simple Flag Triggers? And where or what needs to be declared exactly? This was just one excerpt from the "Flag" section of your online tutorial. You must keep in mind that if someone is not familiar with that vocabulary it is pretty easy to loose track of what you are refering to. Also keep your demo mission clear from unnecessary things. I can´t decipher wether the SU-25, the mission objective triggers and the reinforcement trigger are all necessary or not. All this stuff makes it very complicated for a newbie to understand what of this stuff is actually mandatory to use in his own mission and what is not. As I said before I want to give you some constructive critisicm to make your awesome work more user-friendly and easy to start with :) EDIT: By the way how do you disable the Supply Dropping at map start? EDIT2: Got it thanks to google search and I had to realize in awe... just one page before this one *g* (post no. 750) Anyway played around with WICT a lot now and guess I got into it again. Theres still a thing bothering me. I´ve uploaded an image to illustrate what I´m talking about: The problem as you can see is, that if there is a friendly base inbetween your position and an enemy base (plus inside the legal limits of the spawning scripts), it can result in enemy spawning very close to the friendly base and behind friendly forces. I just have to ask if I didn´t overlook something, but is there really no value that regulates spawning inside a certain zone around the base of origin? If there isn´t it would be quite useful to implement one so that we could regulate how far away from the spawning base, units are allowed to spawn. :) EDIT3: I found a bug regarding the T34. According to the unit pool in "startsettings.sqf" the T34 can spawn on both sides with either BLUFOR or OPFOR crew. When it spawns on BLUFOR side it is still regared as if it where an OPFOR vehicle thus resulting in OPFOR taking control over the nearest flag where the tank spawned and furthermore being attacked by friendly units from the same side (BLUFOR). EDIT4: Found the bug. It is in the "startsettings.sqf" It should say "e" instead of "w" ;) EDIT5: I´ve encountered some odd behaviour with far away units: These are my settings but being even roughly about 5km away units don´t forcefully despawn. In my case that leads to a point where BLUFOR occupies about 70% of all available spawn group places which in return causes a great inbalance between BLUFOR - OPFOR. The funny thing is, the despawn script for damaged vehicles works a bit TOO forcefully. When the car I´m driving is getting some damage it will despawn regardless of wether im still in it or not *g*

    Ai thread

I started playing OFP again yesterday and had to realize a shocking truth... the AI has not made any steps forward since OFP! I´m serious. I can´t name a single category of AI behaviour which has improved since OFP. I remember all those posts were people ranted about how the "stupid" AI lay down in the middle of the street in OFP and ArmA I. This hasn´t change to this very day. Another big issue was the reaction time when standing directly next to an enemy. He would take a few seconds (which is very long when someone stands in front of you with a gun in your face) to aquire the target and start shooting... well guess what? This hasn´t change either. I really don´t know how I could miss that out. Guess I slowly accustomed and never thought back on how things were back in the old days. I write this cause I fear that we will see another graphical update in ArmA III with next to no improvements in key areas that needed an overhaul since Armed Assault like the AI.
  20. I have to confirm the FPS issue. I never had any problems before but now after 10 minutes of play (in MP) FPS stay at exactly 5 as if VSync would force a 5 FPS limit. It stays that way until I either restart or CTD... Normally I have about 25-30 fps.
  21. Omg you guys made me pack out my OFP/Resistance stuff. I got a nostalgia-shock when seeing the game manuals. Installing this game right now! Let´s see how far my senses can cope with technology from nearly 10 years ago :D EDIT: This is unbelievable! The graphics dont disgust me at all! It´s so great being back to Malden. I´ve just accomplished the "Take the car" scenario and guess what!? I got killed by GRENADES! AI actually throws grenades!!! 10 years ago AI was capable of throwing grenades perfectly... and now? Also AI reacts instantly and feels way more intelligent. I spotted a guy and shot at him when my magazine went dry. I was standing at a corner and got back behind cover while reloading. I popped half of my body outside again when I got instantly killed! AI reacted like a human player would do - wait and see if he comes back at the same spot. I had no chance... this is great I tells ya! The overall feeling plus max FPS is like a dream. The world "feels" persistent again due to enhanced viewdistance, perfect control over my body/gun and no graphical glitches like LOD switching. Also driving is a pleasure again! Remember when we had a pointing cue and the steerwheel actually turned right to it? I never understood why they changed that... You guys have to try playing OFP again. I guess I´ll stick with it for now as all my current games got boring and ArmA II doesn´t bind me as much as OFP does...
  22. BIS games totally spoiled me! I played those first titles of MoH, CoD and all the other games who came out that time and couldnt find them entertaining after playing OFP. Crysis falls into the same category. Those games are SO lame, boring and easy! The funny thing is, when you play OFP/ArmA seriously you cant avoid learning real world combat tactics and this is the point where you will become a superior player to other players from different games. I noticed that while playing BF:Free2Play just today. I end up being at the top of the ranking list almost every time. Other people just dont understand how to flank an enemy or how important it is to capture zones rather than killing people just for the sake of it. They dont even know the simpliest CQB rules like shooting and changing firing position or retreating and flanking when facing 2 or more enemies... It sounds kinda crazy but BI made a soldier out of me *g*
  23. Just clicked on random vids on YouTube when I found THIS: 5lnzQvuapdw All that years that have past... where have they gone?? I totally forgot about this game but when I just saw it, it reminded me instantly of Take On Helicopters and I had to make a memorial thread for this classic game! Anyways if SimCop... uh I mean Take On Helicopters has the same principle as SimCopter I can really see the fun such a fresh and "new" setting would be. Feel free to post if you played that game back then and want to share some nostalgia :)
  24. New engine, tons of new features but... will it blend? I mean, what about the netcode? All that lagging killed any last bit of immersion... I felt this was the biggest setback which carried on from Armed Assault I until today. This is why I´m kinda sad that it hasn´t been explicitly featured on the feature list. So what do some of our expertst think? Do the new developments of the engine inherit a revamp of the existing netcode or will it be an even worse lag-festival?

Changes to VBS - The same for A3?

Funny to know that armies and therefor countries with their respective tax-payers, pay for development of VBS which brings up new features every year, which in return eventually find a way into our game some way or another... *g* Too bad massive multiplayer fights with combined arms isn´t exactly the key feature of VBS :( Btw: 100th POST! YEHHHAA (*imagine the yehaa that our beloved Tasmanian Devil shouted when he contacted us for the first time*)
