This is what Fewo said today in this thread, if you missed it: "Sadly it is not possible to change the playermodell during the mission."

I hope this will be an area that wanted people can feel safe in without fearing snipers picking them off... At the terrorist camp there are actually cop snipers that lie in wait in the hills above the camp... so someone who's JUST entered the camp can be picked off. It's not so good for the game. Just as this guy said a few posts back, "as police you get weapons fast yet as terrorist you spawn back in civil hospital ... so let say 10m trip to hq 10m equip 10m back ... all waste of time just to die again ... " Fewo, can you comment on the teleporter script defaulting to ON? It would help reduce 10m of that time the guy spoke of... driving out to the camp that is... since the hideout can be set out there and the person teleports there. No one has any idea what the teleporter is like because it is default to OFF. Very hard to find a server with it on. Added: THANKS for the response, much appreciated, wanted to know one way or the other. The price increase is OK... becomes more useful for those who have played long enough to have built up their cash flow.

If you have rejected the Teleport Script defaulting to ON on maps, please say so in your next post. With no comment I haven't been exactly sure whether you've rejected it or not... thanks! Spied Issetea running 1.10 on his computer with a friend playing. Too bad it had a password, would've loved to join and help playtest

Yes, the boats are useless almost, because in order to use them for a drug run, its a LONG trip. That should be streamlined either by adding/moving boat purchase locations or changing the drug routes. "- added: M203 launcher can be used as stun weapon (using Flares) -> Player will fall down and drop his weapons; Userinput is disabled for 10 seconds" That is MOST excellent. Can you comment on the Teleporter being default to ON on maps? No one ever really gets to see them in action to have an opinion on it, it should default to ON so if people do hate it, they will be motivated to turn it OFF.

I second this-- RUN DACS on your server. It is AMAZING to watch DACS repeatedly kick people over and over again, and you realize just how serious the infestation of noobie hackers is. Abusive Admins: There was this idiot JimmytheD or some such on a TOW server. He was kick-happy on anyone who crossed his path. I was riding in a cop's mh6 (as a cop) to back him up, and when he landed the mh6 I told him to lock it to be sure. Jimmy snuck in and tried to steal the helicopter, but when he found it locked he started shooting the tail rotor to knock it out. By then I had warned the pilot and was running back to it... when it looked like Jimmy was going to shoot the heli to blow it up afterwards, I shot and killed him, so that we could at least repair the mh6's rotor instead of having to buy a brand new one. Naturally, he had his temper tantrum and kicked me... must have been 11 years old I guess.

Find a person willing to quit out as a civilian (and lose all their cash, maybe they can transfer it to a friend first). This person can then join as a cop in each slot, checking which one has that slot that left the barrier. The cop then can place a new one, therefore allowing you to continue your game. I joined a game one time as a cop... there was a barrier that was messing up the buses... I kept asking cops to please place a new barrier so it'd go away... but it didn't. Eventually I began to realize, "What if it's me? I haven't placed a new one since joining..." Sure enough, turned out to be me... a cop who had played previously in the same slot had left it behind.

Two gangs, Red vs. Blue, Crips vs. Bloods or whatever you want to call them, and the Cops are stuck in the mess between them. Gang members focus on being able to raise cash so they can recruit AI soldiers to escort them, in effect hiring muscle to make them a more dangerous force on the streets. AI soldiers can be set to fire ONLY on direct orders from the human, or to fire on cops on sight, and/or fire upon rival gang members on sight. [That possible in the ArmA engine?] To give life to the playability, there should be a progression in capabilities... so at first you can only hire one companion, but later on as you purchase upgrades to your status, you eventually become a renowned gang leader prowling the streets with a menacing entourage. The gang members must engage in illegal activity to advance the game, and it is the cops job to catch them in this activity and arrest them. Sometimes they'll search a gang member who stashed his stuff in time and was clean, sometimes they'll catch someone red handed. Is it possible in the ArmA engine to have weapons that disable rather than kill? This is CRITICAL. It is just too easy for a cop to shoot a civilian first rather than be shot first, making arrests almost unheard of. With disabling weapons, it would make it much more likely that if a cop were to chase a gang member with a vehicle and manage to run it off the road, that there would be the opposing chances that the gang member kills the cop vs the cop landing a disabling shot that allows him to move in and arrest the gang member. Maybe it would be interesting for gangs to be able to bust someone out of jail... The car races would be interesting in those gang races, with cops trying to catch racers DURING the race under the idea that that it is reckless driving. There should be a reward/incentive on top of what the gangs put up for the money-- preferably a bonus item. It should be a big bonus to cops to arrest someone, with killing someone ending in no gain at all. They should want to be extra careful not to kill someone. It's too often I've seen in Sahrani Life that a cop hunting a terrorist knows exactly where he is via the map and uses a sniper rifle to kill them, without ever attempting to arrest them. It made the arresting features useless...pointless. I'll stop now, don't want to get too complicated. Hope what I said is useful.

this can be done by just lowering the french, will be very effective. Spike strips would have to disappear if the cop left, otherwise griefers will leave them all over the map or normal cops forget that they left one behind (or disconnect with one left behind). People will be PISSED if they drive, blow out their tires, save their tires with their repair kit, then blow out their tires at the NEXT strip and now no longer having a kit to repair their car with and having to walk.

I second this... A Chief that has more powers and can discipline bad cops, and maybe even compensate/restore civilians. EXCELLENT for roleplaying, if the cops are more fearful of their Chief getting on them for abusing their powers. This role could be abused of course, but once you have a really GOOD cop in that role I think the game would shine. The Chief could stay at base more often as a commander, using civcam to see what civilians are doing (or what strategy the terrorist is taking against the cops pursuing him), advising and assisting the team, communicating and relating to civilians.

With the Teleporter script ON, I have not seen any negative effects with it. The 60 seconds is quite effective in preventing abuse of it. I find it very useful for civilians who have played a long time and are now focused on making life interesting for the cops. It cuts down on having to drive ALL the way to Masbete/Terror camp and then all the way back. Civilians stuck in Masbete after a jailing can quickly return to the Hospital. Is it possible to have the Teleport script to be default set to ON, and only set to OFF when someone wants to keep it off? Most server admins don't think to turn it on when starting a game, so it is VERY rare for me to find a server with it ON. I'd love it if it defaulted to ON so most servers would have it ON while leaving room for those who somehow hate it to be motivated to switch it OFF. Great MAP Fewo and Isstea! Thank you for working on it!!!

I have never seen it say I disarmed anyone who didnt have a weapon, I usually get you cannot afford to do this message on un armed civs. That would mean you don't have cash on hand to disarm the civilian, because it costs $500 to disarm a civilian. It does not take the cash from your bank, you have to have it in your possession. Try it out on someone who has just spawned, who therefore shouldn't have a weapon at all...
-
There are a lot of noob cops who ***JAIL*** you for allegedly having a weapon... Why? Because when they did the Disarm, it said weapon was taken. EVEN IF YOU HAD NO WEAPON AT ALL. Sometimes they even shoot you as penalty for having a weapon... WHICH YOU DID NOT EVEN HAVE! Have to keep explaining to noob cops over and over again... ---- How about ATM's at the Terror Camp and the Jail? The Jail is most important because if a noob cop arrests you for no reason before you can withdraw money from the bank, then you cant even pay bail, because its all in the bank and not in your hands!

How can a average player get some MP fun?
ModaFlanker replied to Overdosed's topic in ARMA - MULTIPLAYER
I agree, the blocking of invalid CD keys and the server anti-cheats are giving the smack down on griefers. The difference between a protected and unprotected server is night and day. Evolution Red/Blue has evolved a lot since the original Evolution. The enemy keeps airlifting soldiers to the city and sending tank reinforcements from the closest city (and restocking the city that sent reinforcements) until the radio station is blown, and it can be very tricky getting in to satchel it. ONLY a satchel can take it down. So I did get to enjoy it compared to my original Evolution experience which was limited... I was playing a coop game called "Domination!". Its very interesting, if you see people playing it you should check it out. It has artillery roles so you can call it in every 6 minutes (Either HE artillery, Smoke Artillery, or Flare Artillery which is great for nighttime). Engineers go about repairing what gets destroyed on the battlefield. There are mobile respawn points (the medic M113's) which can be airlifted by the helicopters. There are secondary missions that get you bonus equipment to be used. Everything does respawn in case noobs trash your stuff... however you do need to go and blow up blackhawks left behind on the battlefield somewhere so they can respawn. [As artillery I'll call in a strike on a left-behind BH to get it to respawn back at base]. If there are ever enough players, an RTS map made by Karillion rocks. It's not coop, its actual PvP but with AI in a supporting role. You raise your own army warcraft/starcraft style. Nothing like having a huge BMP tank force in line formation as you advance in on the enemy, taking towns to advance your frontline. You can airlift trucks behind enemy lines and take a rear city to flank/disrupt the enemy, it can totally swing a map. It'll need the anticheat installed though, I don't think Karrillion's server has done that yet. -
Hopefully the 1.09 patch with anticheats will be out within a couple weeks... we'll see how long that takes. In the meantime, there is an anticheat and the ability to exclude nonvalid ID keys from the server. I played Berserk on a server for quite a while that was using DACS and didn't see any hacker/cheater problems. Most games have some kind of memory leak... so the longer you play, the more memory it uses which forces your computer to switch to using your swap file as memory (the hard drive) and when that happens, thats when the computer freezes heavily as it waits for the harddrive to finish loading. I quit there and restart the game to fix that myself...

FPS decrease the more into play

If you're in the jet, what you'd see as you have the GBU bombs selected is "Laser Target" as a red square in the distance. Hit TAB to switch targets until you have that as your target, if not targeted on it. As you fly in to it and if you do not see a diamond appear on the box, what is happening is that the fins on the bomb will have zero chance to guide the bomb to the target before the bomb hits the ground. So, you need to either pull up or nose down until the diamond appears on the box. One bomb does tremendous damage so a single bomb is usually all you need to release, but you can always drop them all at once if conserving bombs is not a priority. After the bomb is released it's pleasant to fly sideways a bit and then bank to look at the target for the bomb to hit.

I applaud getting rid of those damned cheats... But, ugh. I'm deaf. I wear a hearing aid, but have a hard time decoding speech. Whats the password? "xxx8zcvdfi03" Uh, can you repeat that? "jfioepwaop" Ummm... "gjiopgehuoie" Sigh.. I'll find another server.

How's it run on your system compared to ArmA? ArmA ran pretty great on my system for a massive-distance game [played WW2 Online previously where the same massive distances would be a big hit on FPS]. The only drawback in ArmA was when I'd use a sniper scope and look at some trees which would really kill the FPS. An ArmA designer said fixing it would be more complicated than they thought [its in a thread in the general forum] so that would have to be fixed in ArmA 2 or such. So how does Crysis run? The demos I saw looked pretty good...

I 'playtested' this game with a pirated version at first and upon finding that it was far and beyond worth it I bought my own copy. There were servers that refused to let me in for having an invalid CD key with the pirated version, so I am pretty sure there is a way for servers to lock out pirates. Reduces the amount of players available but also keeps the anonymous griefers away. 1.09 should have better anticheats for servers... heres hoping its at least most of what we need.
-
I presume that meant there's no way for the users to vote to switch to valid CD keys only (meaning-- the right number of digits in the USERID, instead of those long numerals that are clearly created by a pirate keygen?) By the way has anyone seen any info that indicates there will be a 1.09? I haven't seen any... <edit: Found it. It's located at http://bugs.armed-assault.net/changelog_page.php **************************************** "Armed Assault - 1.09 ==================== - 0002421: [units/Vehicles] Spontaneous death while driving a motorcycle (Suma) - 0001634: [AI] AI soldier can't fire when crouching behind the sandbags...[v1.02.5103 Polish]... 1.09? Haven't heard about it.. with their work on ArmA 2 I haven't been sure they'd even release any more patches. I've stayed away from the game for a while to recharge my attraction to it...if 1.09 does come out I'll definitely come back in. Karrillion, Is there a way to make it voteable by the users to switch the server over to valid CD keys only if there is bad hacking/griefing going on? For that round only? It is the anonymous pirates that can 'get away' with what they do. If the cheating/hacking/griefing continues after the valid CD key requirement, it would be very easy for the good users on the system to make note of that person's ID and we can ask you or Victor or someone else to ban that person. I don't think anyone would want to waste their $40's ability to play on your server in that case. It's hard to ban pirates since they can reinstall for a new ID and come back... so at least this way we can slam the doors shut during a MyG0t attack for example [they tend to come in swarms, attracted to us when we have so many players and are on the top of the list of servers]. It shouldn't be hard to vote for it (ie: requiring 80% to vote-- it should be like 25%)... Any problems with that? If not anything that is similar to that would help empower users to fight back against the anonymous griefers.
-
Immediately got them when you had none, or you joined a game in progress and found yourself with all those units? I ask because if someone quits the game while their AI is out there, then the next person who joins in the same slot gets that same AI. That's good for anyone who gets disconnected and can get back in before someone takes their slot, without losing the AI they've set up.
-
My concern is... If they aren't going to keep patching ArmA, how can I expect they will patch ArmA II without trying to hit us up for a purchase of ArmA III? That's how EA killed themselves... constantly leaving behind wreckages of games so they could release new ones, until people decided they weren't going to buy EA anymore.

Robert, Use the WSAD keys. It works just fine in Soldier Cam. A previous version used the other commands but then it switched to WSAD with 1.00. I think there are other keys on the keyboard so experiment with all the keys on your keyboard besides WSAD. I do LOVE Soldier Cam too!!! I send a huge force and then I can watch the battle... it does help me figure out if the commands I am sending are actually working or not. Helped me fine tune the commands to soldiers.
