what can i buy with 400 dollars?
My Fing ID replied to solidsnake2384's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
If your current comp has an AGP go buy a $200 video card and upgrade your ram, if not buy a $200 video card and look for some cheap used computer. -
I'm partial to playing machine gunners myself being that I was one. M240b is an excellent weapon system, though it feels awkward in game. Would have been nice if they gave it a scope, too, m256 or whatever the fuck that thing's called (can never remember the name).
-
I was real excited about those when I was in the Army. Really wanted to get my hands on one but then I heard they canceled the program because contractors bitched about not being allowed to put up their own weapon to compete. Still its the kind of weapon the Army needs. Less fouling, modular, light weight. The m68 built in and back up irons on every weapon are excellent. Really wish this weapon was fully supported in game, its a cool idea.

Does the Demo have the Mission Editor in it?
My Fing ID replied to WMike20052's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I remember when I was in Iraq I downloaded the OFP demo and one of those HTML level editors before the computer guys started blocking sites. That demo and editor helped me through those night long radio watches lol. It also helped me buy OFP and the addons when I got back! -
This game's totally worth it, though you might want to wait for the expansion so you can play as the Army lol. Seriously though if you like the demo and the idea of having a combined arms sandbox which supports user made units (read militarys from around the world) then this game is for you.

I don't know about sniping or professional shooting, but it doesn't matter if you breath in or out, you just don't want to be breathing when you fire. Breathing raises/lowers your aim. As long as you stop, regardless of lung capacity, you'll be more accurate.

It seems to me that a lot of people are sort of clueless about what Arma is
My Fing ID replied to Rancmeat's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I feel bad for anyone who bought this game for the campaign. I couldn't get through the second mission with the sniper and quit the campaign because of it, well that and the guy spelling out MOUT rather than just saying it. I just didn't want to piss myself off later. Anyways back to the sniper when I get a radio call saying 'hey kill this sniper' I expect little details like, oh, maybe the snipers location! I mean my god atleast give me a grid square! Then I get there. The guy who called me is in the middle of the road hiding behind an Abrams. Now I'm not 100%, but don't those TUSKs have phones in back for infantry? Even if not I'm sure he could use the radio and contact SOMEONE who can contact that tank. Why send 4 guys on the ground at a sniper when you have a big bad armored vehicle! /rant Anyways the editor is the entire reason to buy the game. It's not even that hard to set something up. I set up a little town (ovillia or something) with local forces and a Marine QRF. Basically there are 2 roads that go in town, both guarded by MG positions with checkpoints and militia with patrols that wander the outskirts of the city. I then use that set up and hit them with Russians, insurgents, or whatever I feel like. That scenario alone has kept me going for near a month. When I'm bored I'll deck out a new town or new location and use that instead. That's where this game shines, you can quickly toss together a scenario and play it out for either side. From there you can switch, add, remove, or whatever. Then there are all the user mods. I'm still hoping for some DPRK units and can't wait for the new Army units (come on BFVs!). Yeah though, if someone bought this thinking they just got the next CoD then sorry but you just bought a sandbox. Nothing against CoD, this game's just different. -
Just a question: Why no "class restrictions"?
My Fing ID replied to Crni-Vuk's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Tanks aren't rocket science. It took me 30 minutes to figure out how to start and run a M1 Abrams with no prior training. If it was turned on and idling like these tanks would be then driving would have taken no time. Dunno about the russians but US equipment drives like a car and is even automatic. Doubt the turret would be any work either. If its already turned on you just move the controls. I'm not saying you'll be perfect, but still. As for kits that's on the designer. Also if the mission said there would be armor you can bet that unit is going to any extra AT gear they can scrounge up. Anyways If you want more realism in the weapons they should all have different zeroes. Chances are the weapon you pick up off the ground won't shoot perfectly straight. Also I could agree with aircraft but even then the basics of flight aren't beyond anyone, but good luck figuring out how to shoot. -
ArmA 2 - still not on the shelves in AAFES stores?
My Fing ID replied to Uranium-235's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Maybe its just flying off the shelves! Yeah that's weird though. Talk to the PX and I'm sure they'll order it or just get it online. -
I gotta tell ya I'd never of heard of this game if it wasn't for me looking through Fileplanets D2D and finding ArmA. I remember seeing the video and thinking 'damn I wish they'd make OPF2'. I read about how ArmA was supposed to be 'realistic' and figured it was just more hype and buzz like all the 'realism' in shooters seems to be. Read the reviews and found out what it was, downloaded it asap. Really though if it wasn't for that chance encounter I'd of never gotten this game. The demo is on fileplanet, so it seems like that should help. Same time for me I know it's not the campaign or multiplayer but the editor that makes the game for me. I've been playing the same scenario I made over some city for days now

ArmA II: Operation Arrowhead discussion thread
My Fing ID replied to Tonci87's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
This. Good move switching to the Army, that alone will get me buying this game. Just put in my damn Bradley. -
In Red Harvest there is a factory next to the junk yard you go to (north). If you go up the ladder there's a cop car up on top the factory. Dunno if it's an easteregg or a bug but I was like WTF.

How Stupid is your squad? Keep it Fun
My Fing ID replied to Squigibo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
So what you're saying is it's better to run straight at a machinegun than it is to check the flanks because they too may be guarded? I mean sure, maybe a T-90 is there, and if it is, report it and say 'hey, there's a tank, don't go that way'. Another possibility is there's nothing there, or a few rifle men in the open. Taking out a few guys in the open is much easier than charging a machinegun. I mean really I just fail to see the logic in not looking for the weak spot and instead trying to take a fortified area head on. -
Ah. K, sounds like I'll do the lan method. I tried it once but was disappointed by the small troop levels. I remember a scenario in Arma where one city had so many independent forces that it was a real pain to take. TY

Ty. Any good faq on setting up warfare missions?
-
Curious if any knows this but does Warfare work in SP? If so what do I need to toss in a mission to get it running?

The maximum effective range of an M16 for a point target is 500m, 800 for area. This doesn't mean accurate either. 240b is like 800 point or something like that? I can't remember but what I can remember is taking down 800m targets with 1 round. Though weapons are very accurate, its all a moot point though because you should be letting the enemy come in close to increase your accuracy. If you're doing it right they'll be out in the open, surprised, suppressed, and have taken some good loss in the first few seconds. You take control with surprise and you keep it with suppression. At 600m you have no control. You can't suppress as well and your rifles can't hit. Dunno if that's even 203 range anymore because I think they're sighted to 300m. Tldr engaging a squad at extreme range is bad.

Is the protrack thing required or do I still get all the features with the hatclip that comes with it? I don't use headphones and it looks like that's the only reason for the proclip but I want to confirm before I buy. Also does anyone know a goog jewelry site? I may need backup after blowing 150 on one of these things and flowers may not do the trick

Please bear with me, I'm on my bb and the autocorrect sucks so there maybe strange words. I'd like to see more done with infantry weapons. Ill list m suggestions from what I believe to be the easiest to the hardest. * ability to adjust sight brightness for m68 / holo sights * ability to adjust sight range via mouse menu and/or mapped buttons. * M145 for SAW and 240B http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M145_Machine_Gun_Optic * working PAQs. Link the hold breath button to activate the laser. I'm sure the russians have something like them, give em to em or have an option to disable them in MP. This method could also be used for laser range finders in tanks. * working backup iron sights on M4s (flip-up rear aperture) activated via mouse menu and ability to remove main sight. If sight is replaced after removal have the zero be thrown off. Maybe put the off zero in difficulty settings as an option for people who don't want to model that. This would aid people with 68s at range and ACOGs up close. * realistic tracer loads. * ability to change weapon sights in editor as a dropdown menu option. This is easier than removeweapon etc etc. Also if tracer loads added then the ability to pick tracer load (all tracer for leaders, 1/3 for normal, any others) * ability to zero weapons. This would happen under a new option in the single player menu and would allow the player to select any weapon and zero on a range with know distance targets. The zeros would be saved and used for the player in game. They could also be reset or turned off in the escape menu incase of extreme fuck up. Zero would be changed via mouse menu and only on the zero range. This would allow people to set what they feel is a good zero and see how their rounds fall at range. All I can think of atm. Obviously the better ballistics the, uh, better. Jams could be fun too. What do you guys think?

I suppose you could map it to another button but considering the laser would be active all of 2-3 seconds I don't see the problem. Its an IR laser, it points right back to the shooter. The shorter the use the better. This is why you need a button to hold when turning it on and that turns off the laser on release. Using hold breath saves a binding and if you're using the laser you're not using other sights (anyone tried using a M68 with NODs knows how much that sucks). As for tracers I'm not saying force loads just give the option. In the US Army I used tracers all the time. I'd assume Marines do as well. All I want is the ability to have tracer loads with rifles.
-
The linked breath button would be used for activating the paq laser which is only activated while acquiring and firing. This wouldn't disrupt gameplay at all imo because all you're doing is pointing and shooting. I say the hold breath button because we all have it mapped already. In the end proper paq use requires a button and since its activated when preparing to fire and so is holding your breath why not map them to the same key. As for tracers every unit I was in used tracers. Maybe Marines are different but we had 3 to start, 3 ball 1 tracer, 3 at the end if I remember correctly and 4 ball 1 tracer for MGs. Squad leaders would sometimes have full tracer loads to direct fire. I understand tracers point both ways but that's why you suppress to begin with. Its easier to follow a flaming bullet than get distance and direction.

This games so good you should have to pay them to play the beta!
-
Yeah flight model blows on this game. Get black shark if you want to fly helos. The game is based around infantry, so everything else is secondary. Still I hope something is done. I don't expect blackshark lvl of detail but the controls feel so damn sluggish and collective is too simplified with a throttle. I guess its how it needs to be with keyboard and mouse but use a good joystick and you'll be disappointed. Like the exact opposite of what you'd expect lol.

Why is OFP campaign so good and arma2 so bad ???
My Fing ID replied to jctrnacty's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
The potential of this game hasn't even been tapped. The campaign is just a bonus, I'd buy this if it just came with the level editor.
