  1. There's two aspects to this: -

    1. Infantry/binoculars - is there any way to manually get a "target spotted" message to come from your mouth?

    2. Using locking-on rockets and missiles, I press the Reveal Target button as if my life depended on it. So far, 99% I get nothing and 1% I target a friendly.

Bear in mind I have the German version and haven't been able to read the manual... Also, I couldn't work any of this out in Arma1, which I played for over 2years...

  2. My method is to unbind ALL the controls and add them in as I require them.

One thing to not neglect is the ability to use double-tap as a bind and also CTRL. Can't remember if Shift and Alt work too.

With double tap you do stuff like E for Get Out and double-tap E for Eject. There're loads of related commands that follow that logic.

I overload some bindings so one key does multiple tasks e.g. my Numpad 8 does sprinting and vehicle 'turbo'.

Don't use Left and Right turn on your joystick.

  3. fun thread! I'm sure DR will be a fun game but here's my story

    Wolfenstein 3D

    Doom

    Doom 2

    Quake

    Quake 2

    Medal of Honor

    Call of Duty

    Battlefield 1942

    Battlefield Vietnam

    Battlefield 2

    Battlefield 2142

ArmA <-- at which point I thought, "wtf have I been doing all this time when i could have been playing Operation Flashpoint??? :(

    ArmA2

It's so vast in scope I don't know where to begin. Playing PvP (50 players!) it reminded me of Call of Duty with the lush graphics and Battlefield with the teamwork but it's just mindblowing all the extra dimensions - everything is simulated and doesn't feel like props in a Hollywood film set, the 'map' (we call them mission because there is only one map and that is the entire country) just goes on forever, and it's gorgeous all the way. When I started playing Arma, I rebuilt my main computer just to play Arma. Now, my upgraded machine is my Arma2 machine. It doesn't do anything else. I don't need anything else.

Get the demo next week. Don't panic when you see all the controls because you don't need them until you get deeper into it.

  4. It is entirely normal for night to be so dark that you cannot see your own hand in front of your face.

In fact, I once read a Hagar the Horrible strip cartoon in which Hagar was stumbling around his cave in the dark, complaining about the lack of light. His friend, sat nearby in the darkness, said "Tell me about it, I've lit six fires already and I still can't see anything". Hagar whistles and says "Wow, that's REALLY dark!

  5. There's no X in the centre of your screen where bullets go because. Your arms move, your head moves, the gun moves. You cannot therefore run around like an aimbot in railgun mode. Accuracy comes from stillness. You even have to press the "hold breath" button to score a hit.

PS the radio could sound like daffy duck for all I care :)
