I wish Arma III had:
* more realistic physics engine (especially non-hitpoint damage system, material penetration model, morphing of models, parts of vehicles can be damaged and fall on ground, holes after subcaliber shots in tanks and realistic damaging, plus ability to damage optical systems and make crew using mechanical systems instead of electrical ones then, and so on, and so on.....)
* terramorphing after explosions or when using self-trenching devices on tanks, ability to dig trenches for infantry (!!!), tunnels in mountains
* swimming tanks with shnorkels (don't know how is it written in english, sorry), more vehicles
* realistic unlimited "view distance" (~20 km to see far mountains is enough , i think)
* realtime in game chat (what you say into the mic is heard by people near you in gameworld from their speakers), not only radio communication.
* no AI, or with AI that won't be drunk when driving/moving or too sharpshooting from bushes.
but i think,such a game won't be invented in nearest years...

We can see distant territories, for example mountains (not sure, if see them far enough), but when you shot a rocket or gun from Tungusska at this far mountain, you can see the explosion, only if it is closer than a View Distance limiter. I think it is very unrealistic. I don't ask for VD 10 000m, but, if we see a terrain far ahead, i think we could also see an explosion there.... stupid VD limit.....:(
hope, you'll fix this in Arma2...or maybe it will be in Codemaster's OF : DR?...or elsewhere...

trenches are really needed and useful in modern wars, hope some day i will see them in game...
don't forget about self-trenching mechanizms for T-72's and later tanks...

Will modern tanks be included into ArmA2 (Abrams M1A2 SEP or which is the latest? and a T-90A ?) There's a great difference between ordinary T-90 "Vladimir" and modernized T-90A modification. Especially in armor, engine, new rockets...
1.5) The same thing about 2S6M Tunguska... search for "Tungusska M1". This is the latest modofication.
Tungusska has rockets. I haven't seen them ingame...
M1's radar's range has been widened to 10km from 8km in M's.
I'm not asking to add many other AA vehicles like Tor, Buk and others, because the gameplay will be dead then, but, if you make something in the game, make it realistic and finalized, please.
2) I think that in arma2 the radar systems are not fuctioning like they should in real life. We must have radars only on those vehicles, which have it in real life.
3) Realistic damage. Tank cannot blow and immediately become "a totally exploded model", which is always the same.... even good old Carmgeddon TDR had breaking parts and flying doors in damage system, not saying aout modern PC games...
4) And another suggestion.
If we are playing a realistic game, then there must be realistic abilities for vehicles. I dont insist on self-trenching mechanizms on T-72s and T-90s, but I want to see at least realistic optics damaging and defencive systems (IR, Radio, Smoke, ... )
5) Make AI drivers able to drive straightly forward on the straight road!!!!!!!! and make them able to see buildings that are situated on the road in order to drive around them!!! It seems like AI is blind and dumb in game......

* Please fix the driver head in russian "КамÐЗ" truck (~[kama:z]). The head of the driver is at the ceiling! You cannot see what is left and right from the cabin !!! Have you even been inside KamAZ ???
* in 1.04 i saw a new bug with zooming in 3rd-view. sometimes it doesn't zoom out whe you release RMB (right mouse button), and some similar bugs.
* make damaging more realistic. have you ever seen when only one part of tank is black and damaged and in the next centimeter everything is clean and non-touched..... subcaliber rounds can make holes in armour..... and so on..... the model needs improvements and more realism, if it is a SIM....
These are not the only bugs, of course ! ....

seems like it was ISP's problem. I ordered "static IP" service, switched off ISP's firewall at their web-control panel (it was said that it blocked only FTP, SMTP, WEB ports and some 1xxx ports, no arma ports) and connected my PC directly to ISP's ethernet cable, and....
was able to connect to servers! amazing! maybe , they connect static-ip-users to VIP hardware?? very strange ISP....

Well, I tried to play even without a router...
I hang in 'downloading data' window, it slowly moves to the end and then I get a yellow chain icon in the corner of screen. After that I see a red chain and 'no data received for xx seconds' appears. Then I am disconnected from server. WITHOUT a router! Connected directly to ISP's ethernet cable!!! No firewalls on my PC!!! Firewall in user panel of my ISP (on the website of my ISP, in settings for me) is switched off for my computer! .... What and where can I open now? )))

btw, ping works fine even with router (incoming ICMP ping is set to "on"). without a router it works fine also of course...

@McArcher have you had this issue for a while or is it new?Well, network problems with OFP, AA and now A2, I had long ago, and only ISP change solved them. Now I am using third ISP, and now I'm having network problems again.
What about sound...I had them in 1.02 also, but thought that game just needed patches, because I saw a "EAX" option in AA, and thought that A2 uses EAX too. But I had mistaken :(

btw, sound problems were even in old good OFP !!! it is the curse of all game series i think .. lol..... except maybe AA.....i havent played AA alot....

how can I check ICMPs online? are there any checkers like online port checkers?

1) This will happen if your router is blocking ICMPs or if, as you noted in point 4, your ISP is blocking part of your connection.Where can I test if my ICMPs are blocked? Are there any online checkers?

It's not a bug. There is no hardware support. It's got nothing to do with what type of game it is. Vista/Win 7 have moved away from hardware sound acceleration.Well, i know that, but there's also a magic tool like "Creative Alchemy" for Win7/Vista for enabling EAX.
Now I am using WinXP (32bit), in order not to add new OS's bugs to game bugs =)

I can see neither "soundEnableEAX=0", nor "soundEnableEAX=1" there... should i add this line?

There is no Hardware sound or EAX. Xaudio2 is a "software only" engine.EthAre the developers going to add hardware sound acceleration support to "realistic" simulator game? :D

What Windows 7 do you use?
I played on W7 x64 Ultimate RTM build 7600.16385 and it was quite ok (except game bugs of course). But i dont have nVidia cards, I use AMD/ATI's and latest Catalyst.

1) I'm unable to join in progress (JIP) nearly most of "Warfere BE" missions in internet. The 'downloading data' window (I don't know the exact text in ENG version, I'm using RUS game) hangs my game. It can last for many minutes until I disconnect. Sometimes it crashes Arma2 to desktop, and sometimes even says "Session Aborted" (or something like that).
2) Where are "Software/Hardware Sound Acceleration" and "EAX on/off" selection like in AA1 ? Are you going to add this feature in future?
3) With Audigy 4 (which fully hardware supports EAX, EAX2 and EAX3) and latest drivers from Creative, sound in game is of poor quality, with strange sounds, like clicks (like when you set too small latency in ASIO soundcards drivers) and other things.
4) Why does the game use broadband UDP outgoing connection in servres' list? My provider (one of the biggest ISPs in Moscow, Russia) bans computers with such outgoing connections (because it is very strange to begin starting so many simultaneous broadband connections, like viruses do), so I have to prohibit outgoing UDP 255.255.255.255 in firewall. People from my ISP said that your game is the problem, not their hardware.

I use Catalyst 9.8 and have no such videocard problems with HD4890 and WinXP/XP64/Win7x64. I use only "-nosplash" to skip intros.
Try reinstalling blank OS (with formatting disk), using latest drivers and so on.
Maybe it is not videocard problem, mate ;)
If you get a BSOD, then maybe your PC is too overclocked?

Fuel distance of russian "T-90С" (T-90S) is about 550 km on good road, and +200 km with extarnal fuel tanks.
Compare this with M1A2's 450 km's......

Game physics is VERY strange in Arma2... I think there's no realistic material/resistance/penetration/zone model...

AMD Athlon 64 X2 2.7GHz is not enough for this game, IMHO.
AMD Phenom II X3 720 2.8GHz 3 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 95W Triple-Core Black Processor - Retail - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103649 ($119) - that CPU I told about. It is a choice for a money (not expensive, but quite fast and overclockable to 3.5-3.8 GHz, depends on luck, MoBo and other factors). In multicore applications it will be faster than dualcores at the same clock speed.
P.S. it can work in AM2+ sockets.
P.P.S. if your Motherboard has "Supports 140W CPU" label, than you will be able to get a good overclock with it.

Arma2 is a very CPU-dependant game. (As well as GPU also) My AMD Phenom II X3 720 overclocked to 3.5 GHz and overclocked AMD/ATi Radeon 4890 (900\4400 MHz) aren't enough for this game to run on maximum settings, and today there are no CPU and GPU that can run this game on maximum settings smoothly. The same situation was when OFP and Armed Assault came out... So... You can try 2.7 GHz'ed K8 CPU... but I'd rather you bought a K10.5-generation-CPU from AMD, if you like AMD.
(P.S. Phenom II X3 720 is 2.8GHz at stock, and game is playable even without overclocking it, supposing that you have a hi-end videocard.)

I'm eagerly awaiting the no DVD patch so I can have a proper try with WINE.And I am witing for working Client/Server for Windows at least :D
Without crashes, bugs and desyncs... Game is not playable right now.

Just now I want to see:
* no crashes to desktop in multiplayer games (Warfare and other CTI's)
* armor penetration model instead of hitpoint system
* fixed bugs with animations, models, graphics and so on...
* relistic (os similar) parameters of vehicles. For example GRAD... in real life it fires much faster, the square and power of fire is MUCH bigger....it is death in real life..
* good wiki for arma2 dedicated server with exmples of configs for different internet connection types. I see only arma1 specific parameters on wiki page.
* official warfare like in AA1
* EAX and Hardware/Software selection for audio like in AA1
* AF, AA and other parameters in digits in settings (not "Normal", "High" and so on...)
* ability to change game language

My impressions of 1.03 are:
1) game still crashes to desktop
2) AI is still stupid
3.1) sound is still disgusting. my ancient computer games made much better sounds than this game. especially, when i hear more that 1 truck/heavy veh. near me, I want to switch sound off and throw the game disc into window... but i hope, I'll have patience for the patches....maybe patch 1.96 like in old good OFP.....
3.2) no audio engine selection in settings.
btw, what audio engine is arma2 using? I hope it is not software render??? I hope Arma2 knows what EAX is???
4) I've found a new bug. Aiming mode animation disappears often. I mean , I push the default right button of mouse to aim the gun, but see no animation...though my movement speed decreases.
5) In Warfare BE missions, russian side cannot build defensive structures. Some people say, that this is localisation error of the game. Can you comment on this? Maybe many bugs (especially crashes to desktop) are cause by such bugs?

You did never pay anything for crcti, don't forget.Of course, I understand this, and appreciate the work, but I think that the work isn't finished. Until it is finished, all the efforts won't be useful. If we are trying to do someting, we must succeed in it, we must finish it, I think. If I could help, I'd help to clear all bugs, but I don't know how can I help you. I just want to play these great CTI missions without bugs... to enjoy gameplay, not fighting with bugs)
Try to fix the bugs yourself - it's not impossible, indeed it's an overwhelming experience to create things in BIs games yourself. And I think your help is needed for Squeeze who did all the work said earlier in this thread he had stopped working on it.How can I do this?
