  1. Well you could say the 19th of june, is late june. But i assumed that the 505 version would be a lot less buggy then the morphicon version. I thought the first patch was just a hotfix and the next patch will be the 505 version.
  2. No, by the time the 505 version comes out there will be another patch for the german version.

    ARMA 2 Micro AI Thread

Well if the driving is like ArmA1 then it will be pretty darn hard to stay on the road. I always thought it was strange that i could fly jets and helos pretty well, but when it came to driving a truck i was bloody awfull.
  4. I'm keeping an eye on dragon rising, but nothing i've seen stands out . I even had a little chuckle when i watched an ingame video and heard the robotic commands. Yes there less robotic than ArmA 2, but there still robotic. I didn't like the COD/Far cry 2 weapon position very much either. I'm buying ArmA2, thats a fact, but i will most deffinatley wait for a few reviews before spending my money on dragon rising.

    Think ive triggered FADE

Most deffinatley, I'm aching to try out ArmAII, but i'm patientley waiting on the 505 release. We should be upto version 1.02 by then, so a lot of the bugs will be squished also. Win win situation me thinks

    ARMA 2 Micro AI Thread

The major thing that stood out in the forest vid was the bird singing. There's a war going on, and the birds are all happily minding there own business. I understand the sounds are for immersion, but that immersion is instantly killed when they still sing when all hell breaks loose. Also woodland combat will never be a strong point of ArmA (strange considering the amount of trees on chernarus). There is just too much to calculate to make any bot effective. They run around, back and forth like headless chickens. You would have to micro manage your squad to survive that battle with realistic casualties. Memories from ArmA 1 remind me how insanly impossible some of the firefights were when fighting in woodland. Your AI squad leader would tell you to target a selected enemy, but you could never see it. He would then send his squad to there deaths, one by one, telling them to engage. A prime example of this is when your squad has an AT soldier. If enemy armour is detected, he sends the poor guy to his death. Can somebody tell me if any of these issues are improved.
  7. I remember in VBS1 the animals were playable. I put myself in the editor as a snake. There was also playable foxes, sheep, camels, rabbits and kagaroos. You could make a mission were your not the hunter, but the hunted. Play as the wild boar and try to escape a group of hunters.
  8. Great read, some good info. One of the things that really stood out, was that Chernarus is a lot smaller than sahrani. This now makes sense, after seeing the size of the airfield on the island screenshot. It wouldn't be normal if i didn't post a negative comment, so here it is. I'm seeing ArmA II as more of a, OFP 1.8, instead of an all new amazing game with tons of additional features. At the end of the day, it's what you do in the editor that brings this game alive. I'm just hopeing for a more finely tuned AI, i'm not necesseraly talking about AI in combat, but AI on patrol, driving and general movement in formations over long distances. You know, the immersive things that can sometimes look fking ridiculous with the AI bots in ArmA.
  9. It took me about nine attempts to complete that mission. You can see the flaws in the ArmA AI, as they report the enemy location, but don't engage. My team was getting shot in the back everytime they proceeded to the next waypoint.

    New ArmA II Pictures!

Well to be honest, i thought this thread was the latest arma press release, both threads are getting a little clogged up. But i'm not helping by posting slightly negative posts. To be fair the water is a massive improvement over arma, so that's a tick in the right box.

    New ArmA II Pictures!

The recent pictures of the ponds do look good, but come on guys, do you think they are anything other than eye-candy. You wont be able to go splashing through them in your Abrams, i would hazzard a guess there are no effects with the water other than a texture, which you will pass through. You guys just get so pumped when you see uber graphics, but you really have no idea how this game will play compared to ArmA. We've seen all the good looking graphics, we've seen the faction 'heavily scripted' videos, i would like to see actual gameplay and i don't mean those half arsed vids fom some of the recent preview sites. I would like to see how the new command menu is structured and how well the AI behave in combat, and if they can hop over fences and carry wounded comrades and can the AI actually take cover, becasue we've seen none of this yet. Show me some improvements other than better graphics. I'm buying this game, there is no doubt about that, so i want to see what i'm getting for my money.

    Night... less dark...

I hate the complete darkness that is in ArmA. I tested the Ai out in the editor, and i found that it does not affect the sight of the AI. I couldn't see my own weapon but i was shot by an AI from over 100 metres away who had no NV. Remember that mission in CWC. The one where your an A10 pilot and you get shot down and have to escape back to safety. Well try doing that mission in ArmA, you wont be able to because you wouldn't be able to navigate through the trees. This is one aspect of reality that doesn't need to be ingame. You simply can't play ArmA at night if your not equpied with NV.
  13. The shilka fireing sounded exactly like the flashpoint version. Graphicly they look superb, but there just the exact same in behavior to what we already have. This is the problem when you consistantly rehash US and russian equipment. We've seen these vehicles dozens of times, there nothing new. I just hope and pray the infantry squad AI is better than ArmA, i wouldn't mind if they even reverted back to flashpoint squad AI.

Why is this game so hard to buy?

OFP was published back in 2001 i believe, by codemasters, a very big name in this business. ArmA and ArmA2 however will be published by a lesser known name, 505 games. This is probably one of the reasons you wont see the game on many store shelves. The internet is your best bet with ArmA 2.

    New ArmA II Pictures!

Yes, but if BIS can script trains ingame, then so can the community. Or did BIS use some kind of photoshop trick. Also they did say that they don't alter the screenshots to make them look better, but would they stoop so low enough to enhance the videos. If they did then it seems like double standards to me.
  16. The first thing i'll do is fire up the editor, put myself ingame as a civilian and add an empty car. Then i'll go for a drive around for a while taking in the atmosphere. I remember the very last mission for CWC. The one where you had to meet your buddies at a pub in the south of everon i think. You could take the blackhawk as a taxi or just make your own way there.

Also the lake doesn't look that big, i mean if your going to go to the expence of daming, you would want a much larger water supply than that. Only nitpicking my friends, only nitpicking ;)

    New ArmA II Pictures!

I thought that was a ford, not a dam. As you wouldn't expect a road to lead into a lake. I'm wrong, by looking at this pic, there is deffinatly a road leading into the lake.

    Vilas' addons

I'll second that. I've just spent the best part of two hours looking at all those addons in the editor, simply put, they are amazing. The amount of work that went into making all that is beyond belief. Have a break Vilas, you deserve it mate.

    New ArmA II Pictures!

Looking at the recent screenshots, there nothing short of spectacular. But me being the pessimist, i can't help but think there blinding us with these great scences to maybe gloss over the bad things. I like my graphics to be the best they can be, but i've read on these forums that some members would prefer better gameplay than pimped-up graphics, well i just hope and pray we get both, because we've certainly got the graphics. Before anybody flames me, i've already got the game on pre-order, so BIS is getting my money, so i've got the right to be negative. @SASrecon, i think its already been mentioned that its Ivan Butcha (sp)
  21. On the subject of water, seeing that recent screenshot of the ford, i wonder if there is any realistic reaction to the water when you drive through it, or is it just a layered image that you will pass through. One thing about the recent pics is that they look amazing, but is it all just for show, or can we break trees and splash through water. OFP:DR devs have said there island is fully interacable, deforming terrain and the like. I would assume if you broke down a wall or fence, only a small part would fall, unlike in ArmA, the whole wall falls. I'd also like to see the AI tackling fences, as i'm pretty sure they wont step-over them as the player can now seem to be able to do.

    TrackIR 5 ArmA2 Thread!

I'm pretty much sold on the TIR5, but i'll wait to see how ArmA 2 runs on my rig before making a purchase. Will the $20 discount still be available after A2 is released.
  23. I pretty much agree with what your saying, but if Flashpoint had these problems, then don't you think ten years later, we should be seeing improvements, and not repetitions of the same mistakes.
  24. I got the same feeling after watching the vid. Especially when he started driving the humvee, it looks just as clumsy as in ArmA1.
