  1. Agreed, but i'm getting tired of all this now. It's a never ending cycle with BIS. When they release a 'new' game we basically have the exact same content as the previous game, but with better graphics. The old bugs that were eventualy squished in the previous game, are back in the new game, and the cycle goes on. I for one am more unhappy about the island than anything else. I read that BIS devs said that the updated vegetaion would make the island run a whole lot better, but i still see the same lod issues and frame rate dips when in and around wooded areas. If it was realy that better optimized, we wouldn't be seeing threads like this http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=75714&highlight=linda
  2. Well then the title of the sticky thread is misleading, as it's not an ATI only issue. or as you say a graphics issue.
  3. Take note here people. This is not just an ATI problem. I too had this problem in armed assault, and the problem only went when i had my graphics cards replaced under warranty. I put it down to heat, as when the artifacts started to appear, all my fans went ballistic. I now get this problem in ArmA2, but only on chernarus. I have Nvidia cards installed, so it isn't an ATI issue. On a side note, this problem only ever occured in armed assault and arma2. I could run any other game on max settings with no problems. When you look at the screenshots posted, you'll see that the players character isn't distorted, it's always the island that causes this. The large islands consume a lot of gpu power and this together with different PC builds is what causes this problem.
  4. Marines or infantry, i dont mind, but the original CWC, where you started out as a fresh faced recruit was brilliant. That's what i think of when somebody mentions flashpoint, not the island, but the fact you were just a grunt, a small part of a larger army. The missions where you went in as a member of a squad, and had armoured support, were just fantastic. This SF nonsense is just to generic, and i see it as a cop-out because its far easier to make.
  5. I couldn't of put it better myself. I bought OFP, Armed assault and now ArmA2 for the SP aspect. I can say that the SP in BIS games has steadily declined since CWC. I admit i was dissapointed when i started to see the vids and the fact were now into our third instalment of US vehicles and men in as many games. ArmA2 is more like flashpoint than Armed assault, but i don't see that as a good thing. I wanted a military sim that looked 9 years ahead of flashpoint, not 3 years. Yes the graphics look stunning,( on a very powerfull PC) but gamplay IMHO, is dreadfull. The fanboys can shout all they want, but in the end all we have is an expansion to armed assault with a few tweaks here and there. What might be the nail in the coffin for me, is were going down the same road as armed assault, with all the patches. Yes BIS might just have a masterpiece with ArmA2, but this might take 3 or 4 more patches and by then they'll be rolling out the next version to start all over again. Its been stated before that BIS games are becoming MP biased, and you can see that the vast majority of the lovers are undoubtably MP gamers. To see how frustrating this game is as a SP experiance, all you have to do is make a fairly simple mission were you are a member of a squad. Only then will you see how badly the AI behave when your trying to get them to do simple things. Yes admitidly there trying to fix the AI driving issues, but the AI driving in flashpoint was better than this cm precition AI of ArmA2. Doesn't it strike you that BIS SP missions involve you commanding a smaller squad, well this is because its far easier to do.
  6. I have two versions of ArmA2 installed on my PC , i have a second HD with nothing on it except ArmA2 and there is absolutley no differance in frame rate.
  7. Since the patch, i can now run ArmaII reasonably well. The main reason being post processing being disabled. I usually played Armed assault on very high with 3000 VD, but alas i can only play armAII on medium with 1600 VD. It still looks good though. I noticed they added a lot more years in the editor drop down list. I thought it was a bit odd that it only went upto 2009 in ver 1.01. I know there are more bugs to squish, but BIS certainly have an eye for the tiniest details.
  8. Did you by any chance order from Game (UK), as i too am yet to recieve my PDF map download link.
  9. I havn't got ArmA2 yet, but from what your saying, it sounds exactly the same as it was in ArmA1. It was quite distracting seeing the tops of the trees and bushes changing in size as you zoomed in and out. All the movment made it that little bit more difficult to see what was enemy and what was bush.

    Ch-46

From a personal point i would of prefered either the CH46 or CH53 or even both, only because i don't like the look of the V22. I assume both of these helos will be made available in the future by our excellent modding community, so enjoy the game and just be patient.

Anyone else sticking with Arma 1?

As soon as i get my copy of arma2, i'll never go back to armed assault. Armed assault is a game i'll not look back on with any longing. It's a pretty bland forgetfull game, and without the community i would of uninstaled it from my pc months ago. I can't honestly see many people sticking with armed assault like they stuck with flashpoint, when armed assault was released. The only reason BIS kept updating armed assault, was to keep the community for Arma2s release.

Enemy has great vision at night? Mythbusted!

I did a test in pitch black, where i walked up to the AI until i got his attention. He didn't shoot, but i walked back, deffinatley out of hearing distance, and i circled him. He was looking at me all the time i was moving. No matter where i went he never lost 'sight' of me. Now considering the player can't even see there own weapon in pitch darkness, this does come off as a little unfair.

    ARMA 2 Micro AI Thread

Its all starting to make sense now, why all we got was faction vids from the devs, and no real vids showing off this all new AI. Reading these snippets of info has saddened me somewhat, but i suppose i'll just enjoy ArmA2 for what it has to offer,. and not what i had really hoped for. ArmA2 is looking to be a big dissapointment, as it's looking more like Armed assault everyday with not much in the way of major changes. I'm still more than a little pissed at the crappy AI driving and the shitty command speech.
  14. I was thinking the same thing after reading that. And it is exactley that, why ArmA2 got a lower rating than Armed assault.
  15. Nice little bonus edition over at game (UK based) http://www.game.co.uk/PC/Strategy/~r340775/ArmA-II/?s=arma 2
  16. Try this thread. It's an old problem dating back to ArmA1 from 2007. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=73925

Wonder how many really play this game.

100% SP for me. The two main reasons are a bit of a catch 22. I would only like mature servers with no TK and crazy kids, but i can't commit to a clan because my wife would castrate me (she already thinks i spend too much time on my PC). So even though i would love to join a clan and MP, i just can't commit the time. I'm wondering how many of you guys will still be playing ArmA when ArmA2 arrives. It seemed many members hung on to OFP for quite some time until they eventually came over to arma, if at all. I can't see that happening this time though.

    Strange Graphic Bugs (Artefacts)

I never believed it was a heat problem even though my temps were in the high 80s and mid 90s, because the only game i had this in was ArmA. I could run other games on maxed out settings with no problems. I went and had my graphics cards replaced because they were still under warrenty and the problem was gone. It could be a combination of things, maybe even a corupt driver install or whatever. This problem happens on both ATI and Nvidia cards.

    Strange Graphic Bugs (Artefacts)

Your description sounds familiar, try http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=58848 The majority of people seemed to think it was an overheating problm with the GPU. I too suffered from this but after having my graphics cards replaced the problem went.
  21. Well what i dont get is, if the original german version was so bad and BIS were kinda forced to release it that way. How come patch 1.01 wasn't already under development. I mean they released patch 1.01 in under a week didn't they. This tells me that this is just a hotfix for the german release, alright it's a rather large hotfix, but i would hope that the 505 version is going to be a whole lot better than ArmA 2 version 1.01.

    Ai thread

The AI might of improved in combat, and arguably this is the most important aspect of the game. But AI in vehicles is retarded. It would be ok if every mission that was made for arma 2, was a jump into action straight away type mission, but for those of us who like the immersion this game brings, the AI is absolutley a nightmare to control at times.

    Graphics engine improvement

I just had a thought. I don't know how BIS go about improving there engine, but do they strip it down and debug it all before jumping right into it. Maybe the game engine needs to be rebuilt from scratch. I would hate to think of the mess it must be in after more than ten years of tweaking and fiddling. I'm no coder, but i know there are unused files in the arma directory, surley this needs to be cleaned up. I don't even know why i'm mentioning this, but after ten years OFP is exactly the same as ArmA2 asthetically speaking. The animations and movements just look so outdated by todays standards. I never get the feeling that i'm actually fully in control of my character, especially in urban enviroments. This is not a BIS bashing post, i'm just writing what i'm thinking.
  24. Put simply, this is the game engines limits. You wont see fluid movements or precise wall hugging in ArmA2. I'm hopeing for a GRAW style movement animations in OFP dragon rising. The huge scope of ArmA with the animations of COD would be one hell of a game.
  25. In OFP i could give an AI driven truck about 5 waypoints, and it would drive happily from one side of the map to the other. In ArmA 1 on a similar route (different map though) would take 3 to 4 times the amount of waypoints. VBS1 even had these problems. Now wether it's an AI problem or a map problem i'm not sure. It's a killer if your trying to make a mission that involves an AI driver getting to a certain location. I've lost count of the amount of times and actual hours i've wasted, actually watching to see if the truck gets to its destination. I suppose this is one of the reasons you see a lot of troop movements done in helicopters, as there a lot easier to predict.
