Dual core, Quad Core and SLI...

I was getting this problem and my FPS was around 30, and when it stutered the FPS didn't lower. Its to do with the refresh rate on LCD monitors, or so i believe. I have Quad SLI and i'd like to know if all four of my GPUs are actually working when i play ArmA. I can't make out what the load balancing graph is trying to tell me. Can someone shed some light on this thing...

    laser designator

@Dallas and Frederf Thats nice and all, but stingfish74 wanted to be the laser designator and have an AI piloted plane drop the bomb. As this doesn't work in ArmA, i told him, so he would know it's not himself which is making any mistakes in the editor.

I want to champion the AI

Could you say the same for your squad AI. I have no problems with the AI in ArmA except for the idiotic behaviour i've seen from my own AI squad members. Yes i know the AI is the same for all bots, but if you just listen to the orders your AI squad leader gives out and the micro managing that he does to order a certain soldier to fire at a certain target, well there's no way in hell a human can control a squad as well as that while under fire. So when you suddenly find yourself under fire, you've got two choices. You either micro-manage your AI squad members, rendering your weapon usless and putting your own life at risk, or you fire on the opfor leaving the AI to fend for themselves. If you do the latter you should expect heavy casualties. Why i hear you ask, well because they can't move without standing up, waiting a couple of seconds, then lie down again, end result = dumb AI.

    US Demo Released

I know only too well the graphical problem your having. I'm using NIVIDIA 7950GX2 and i'm convinced its not a driver problem. I've recently had my GPU replaced as the other one was overheating in the 80s and 90s. I've not had the problem again since i've had it replaced but i also added extra cooling. I'm not sure if it's a heat related problem or not but it was for me. Or there could of been a fault in my GPU, who knows.

    laser designator

It was a simple process of placing a laser designator (you) in the editor. Then placing a plane(GBU) seperatley from yourself and have it on a seek and destroy waypoint at the target destination. When you laser the target the plane will set its' position and drop a bomb. Remember i wrote it was a simple proceedure. Well it was in Flashpoint. I've just tried it out in the edior and i can't get it to work. I've also read that the laser or the GBU planes are bugged in ArmA.

    ArmA and SLI

I have a NIVIDIA 7950GX2 in quad SLI but i'd like to know if it would be safe to install these new drivers or are they only for the 8800 series. At the moment i'm probably only using 1 GPU out of the 4 when i'm playing ArmA because of the unoptimized SLI .

    Weird graphics bug...

This bug IMHO has nothing to do with ATI drivers. Before i had my GPUs replaced i too was getting the exact same problem. I have installed in my system 4 NIVIDIA 7950GX2s. I had noticed the GPU temperatures were between 80 and 90 degrees right after shutting ArmA down. Now i've changed my GPUs and i've got additional cooling, i'm yet to see the problem reoccur. I'm almost tempted to take out my additional cooling to see if i get the problem, but i never want to see it again as those who've experienced it know how much of a nightmare it is. If however the problem is not heat related, i would like to know how i can be the only NIVIDIA user who's experienced this problem.

    Operation Flashpoint 2 officially announced

I'd have to agree with Messiah with regards to VBS2. Just check out the VBS1 forums (oh shit you can't unless you've bought it) you'll see its pratically dead. I'm not impressed with the units either as there just VBS1 units which i've already got. Paying $1500 for a simulation which uses the exact same engine as ArmA (bugged to fcuk), you have to be f***ing nuts Ontopic. I welcome any contender to this simulation genre. And reading the press release that said Codemasters wern't happy with the slow way BIS worked on the game just made me laugh. Hell, it took them 2 years to release ArmA which is Flashpoint ver 1.5 and it was still bugged to shit. If i'm honest the only reason i play ArmA for is because it's the only one of its' kind. If there were even one more game similar to ArmA do you think this community would be as big. Bottom line is, that if this OFP2 game turns out to be bloody good, BIS are in for a tough ride. Like someone already wrote, it's time for BIS to show us gamers that Codemasters arn't the only ones working on a sequal.

Fluid Movement System (BIS please read)

Console games tend to have better movement systems. Take Oblivion for example, the more you push on the left stick the faster the character will move. As keys don't move down in increments your resticted to the mouse wheel, which is often used for other things. Although it sounds like a great idea i really don't want to have/remember to press another key just so i can get my action menu to work. ArmAs controls are complicted as it is. I'm not a trained typist so i find pressing all these keys just so i can lower my weapon and walk slower a bit of a strain.

    ECP, where are you???

The saddest moment for me when i uninstalled OFP was knowing i wont be able to play ArmA with ECP Â . ArmA + ECP would be f***ing awsome...

    ATI Drivers

The above quote is what i wrote in another thread regarding this problem. I checked my GPUs temperatures after i shut ArmA down and i found they were in the high 80s and low 90s. Now i'm no tech head or computer geek but i know this is not good. Since my GPUs have been replaced i've yet to see this problem raise its' very ugly head. Since i seem to be the only NIVIDIA user who's having this problem i do not believe it is an ATI fault.

    Weird graphics bug...

Try reading through this thread. The vast majority seem to be ATI users, but i have an NIVIDIA Quad SLI 7950GX2 setup and i was getting this problem. I've had my GPUs replaced (under warrenty, thank god) and so far everything seems fine. One thing i will point out however, and that was my GPUs were running at very high temperatures. I noticed after shutting ArmA down that my GPU temps were in the high 80s and low 90s. This was obviously not good. I now believe this problem is heat related and has nothing whatsoever to do with drivers or ArmA. Maybe the GPUs which suffer this problem have poor cooling fans attached, as the engineer who replaced my GPUs said the fans were burnt out. All four of my GPUs were only 4 months old. ArmA is a very GPU intensive game and will test your rig to the full.

As far as i know, it only happens in Germany . They have no sence of style, except for there cars.

    Desert US Vehicle Pack

Not really, as there good re-skins. If i could make a comment it would be that the colour just doesn't look correct. Maybe a tad too dark. But as you've already mentioned this in your readme i can accept this. If you just check out some OFP desert addons then you might get the right colour there. It should be pretty simple for a guy as talented as you.....

Average age of the Armed Assault player

Well i suppose it's time to admit it. I'm 39 in july but i feel as fit now as i did when i left the Army in 93. I only really started playing games when i returned to civi life. OFP reminded me of what life in the army was like to a certain extent, and i suppose i've just been 'pretending' to be in active service since i left...Kinda sad really . From this point forward, if anyone reads a complaining post from me i would just like to say i'm only desperate for game2 because like KillerWatt wrote i'm loosing gaming years pretty rapidly. Oh and the real reason i don't play MP is becaue i hate the idea of 20 year olds kicking my butt, when i know in real like i would woop there ass back to there momas

The Value of FPS (And a bit of a rant)

I just can't see this happening. One major hint that tells us things are coming to a halt in terms of processing power is the dual core and now quad core PCs. Single core processors are at there limit so now they create dual cores. SLI is now in place so this tells me that GPUs are now not going to be getting that much better than there predeccesors. The likes of Intel and NIVIDIA create these things if there's nowhere else to go in terms of technology or they've hit a dead end. Maybe there will be a breakthrough and we'll see a 6Ghz single processor or a 2MB GPU but technology has its' limits and i think seeing dual cores and SLI in place just tells me there finding it hard to improve. What i mean by finding it hard, is that there wont be these giant leaps forward from GPU to GPU that was seen previously. This is speaking from a laymans perspective as it's how i see it.

    ArmA Public Beta Patch 1.05.5143

To answer the first part of the quote. The game was not made in a very short time, it took 2 years and it's basically a more optimized flashpoint, hell even expansions don't take that long to make and come on, Arma is a flashpoint expansion. The second part of the quote is really answered in your first part. Why do you think ArmA, like flashpoint is so well supported. It keeps you from chucking it in the bin and thus enables BIS to keep your support for the next game. Also the promise of a new addon or a new feature in the next patch makes you think your getting something for free, when actually you really should of had them in ver 1. I mean come on, it'll be 7 updates before the US release in no more than 5 months. These updates you so like wont come this thick and fast for the next 5 months i can guarantee that. I can't wait until i finnish work tomorrow, i'll be a little less negative by then....

    GAME2's elements in Armed Assault?

Dear me, i'm in a negative mood this weekend. My crappy negative opinion on this would be that game2 does not and has never excisted. All those screen shots were just alpha versions of ArmA. ArmA is not a stop-gap. How can a development team of 7 or so people create a game with so much complexity. Cryotek has 50 or so devs, but there game world is a 50th of ArmA. Look at Stalker for an example, it was delayed for 6 years or so with a far larger dev team than BIS and when the game was finally finnished the graphical quality was 5 years old. BISs scope has reached its peak, populated islands the size of Sahrani and a full physics engine on everything from realisticly destroyed vehicles and buildings, terrain deformation to correct impact ballistics can not be done with todays PCs installed with SLI and dual core. PCs in 5 years time wont even be able to handle that kind of realism, so how can they start to make a game when the system is nowhere near being available, or affordable. A game of this scope and magnatude is just not feasable. This is in noway an attack on BIS as they have pushed the boundaries of military simulations, i just can't see how a dev team that creates ArmA with bugs that were in OFP ver1 and needs 7 updates before the US release, can create a game so complex in less than 10 years. If game2 is ever released it wont be in my gaming lifetime. Please, please can someone tell me different or at least i'd like to read a possitive side to what i've written.

    ArmA Public Beta Patch 1.05.5143

You pretty much sumed it up there. I suppose i was trying to get across the fact that ArmA is just OFP, simple fact. Now flashpoint had quite a few patches and tons of user made content. With ArmA were just starting from srcatch again. Now this long road ahead of us, which some of you see as improving the game, just seems to be deja vu for me. Ok, the graphics are far far better than OFP but if any of you really think ArmA is leaps and bounds ahead of OFP then your deluding yourselves. And at the end of the day you must think eye candy is what really matters. Maybe i'm thinking outside the box here, but i don't play MP so i never take MP into account when i judge ArmA. I'm speaking from a SP perspective.

Holy crapcake batman, even game2s third sequal wont be anywhere near as good as that. Great looking Marines joe@jonny, there as good, if not better than the VBS marines.

    RHS Hind v1.0 for ArmA

Is StevoIRL and I the only two who seem to have noticed this problem. But now to the congradulations. I only started up my ArmA after a month away because of this addon. Superb addition that should of been in the original line up IMO.
