  1. Pretty sad, looks like the people saying SA would go the way of Zimbabwe were right :( Africa consistently fails. Glad I got out...

    War with Facebook

Facebook does the same thing and has for years. There have been cases of Facebook asking for ID to confirm name changes. Anyway, I use Facebook and find it really useful. If you're so worried about your personal information, then it's as simple as not putting it online. Facbook doesn't force you to reveal anything, it's all optional.

    Counter-Strike: Global Offensive announced

Obviously that depends on who you play it with. Public servers = crap for just about any game. I've had some good times with CS and CS Source back in the day. Great fun at LAN parties.
  4. rFactor and games based on its engine like GTR2, Race 07... NFS Shift and Shift 2 have some mods but modding was never officially supported.

The hip fire reticle should go

I think the centre dot that points out exactly where the gun is pointing should be removed. The outer part that shows approximately where you'e aiming should stay. That way you still have a useful crosshair that gives you a sense of where your weapon is pointing, while you need your sights for better accuracy.

    Windows 8

Agree, Windows XP is on its deathbed and it's time to leave it behind. Even Ubuntu Linux is a better OS now... Windows 7 is a pretty damn good OS. I got it through my university's MSDN program before release. Never wanted to see XP again after switching to it. Despite also having access to Vista I didn't bother with it, stuck with XP until 7 was out.

    Windows 8

I don't get what's so bad about the ribbon that it confuses people. I just switched from Openoffice/Libreoffice to Office 2010 and I'm finding it excellent. Just forget about how things were with the last one. Everything seems to be where I would expect it to be under the appropriate ribbon tab, no more digging through lists. A major step forward in my opinion. I don't get the Windows Phone 7 UI though. Looks like a step backwards to me. A few ugly big blocks for the homescreen with a chunk of wasted space. Then the apps are put into a basic list instead of icons. Don't like it, no way that will pull me away from Android.

    Weapon Lock

This isn't 1950, modern PCs aren't going to break a sweat on this...

    Weapon Lock

Not a bad thing for the lowest difficulty, for the newbies. When I first started with OFP I had a lot of trouble telling enemies and friendlies apart. Resulted in me frequently shooting friendlies. After a while got to the point where I could turn all friendly/enemy tags off and could tell enemies and friendlies apart just from seeing them.

    Windows 8

Exactly. There were Windows 8 tablets being shown off. Windows 7 is apparently pretty crap with touchscreens and tablets. Which is why Android tablets and iPads are becoming so popular. A touchscreen tablet, with a keyboard if you do a lot of typing, is so much nicer to carry around and work on than a laptop. If Windows 8 can run on tablets without making them ugly bulky machines with pathetic battery life like Windows 7 does right now, it will be awesome. No more bulky laptops :) I do so hate that Windows-Phone inspired style though. Thought it was terrible on the new Windows phones too, ugly tiles that make the interface look like it was designed by a child.

    Brothers in Arms: Franchise Down

You missed out. Mafia 1 was a great game. As for Mafia 2, yea no need to continue past those first 15 minutes. Wow. That explains the long dev time. Is there a source for this? Did anyone actually see this version of the game?

    Brothers in Arms: Franchise Down

That's the sad thing, so much potential wasted. The first one was a much better experience to play through, even though it was far from perfect.

    Brothers in Arms: Franchise Down

Mafia 2... Way to kill my faith in modern games. :( So sick of all the dumbed down crap.
  14. They don't play computer games to practice shooting. They play them to practice movements and drills. For that, COD is kinda useful. As long as they don't waste too much time on it. Of course, not as useful as ArmA or VBS2 would be. Especially with those ridiculous maps.

    Brothers in Arms: Franchise Down

It was actually pretty dumbed down compared to the earlier ones. Thanks to that stupid 3rd person cover system.

Gamespot Reader's Choice, vote for ARMA 3

ArmA 3 was barely even shown. Just a press-only demonstration that was a brief overview. No surprise it got little attention.
  17. I guess it can be used to practice some basic squad tactics, teach them how to move and stick together in firefights. ArmA would be a better choice though...

What do you think off the "future" setting

It allows for more creative freedom, so I'm all for it.

    Hitman 5: Absolution announced

That's weird. Why would they drop a popular voice actor when he even seems to want the role? He only needs to record about five lines since 47 hardly talks :p

    PhysX

Ok ok I should have said mass. It's what people usually mean when they say weight anyway :p
  22. Maddmatt

    PhysX

Just... LOL :D Gravity, wind resistance, and weight all affect how fast something falls. Who cares how fast something falls in a vacuum, this game is not simulating vacuums unless BIS has decided to include space travel :butbut: I wonder, does PhysX take wind resistance into account?

    Hitman 5: Absolution announced

It might be just like with the map in the other Hitman games, where as you turn up the difficulty it shows you less info. Really looking forward to this one, still have good memories from Blood Money. About damn time that Kane and Lynch crap came to an end, why they completely abandoned intelligent gameplay and went for mindless crap I don't know.
  24. You talked about animations. That is an animation. Oh please, while obviously you can't sprint while getting an AT4 ready, you can sure as hell switch between a pistol and rifle when walking in real life. Your legs don't freeze up in real life every time you do something with your weapons, and in a desperate situation you can stop what your doing if you need to move quickly. I never said that. I can't take you seriously if you're going to put words in my mouth. In real life it's not necessary to put the rifle on your back first though... That would be nice. Probably wasn't an option for ArmA 2 because of development resources.
  25. To be fair, the transitions before the changes didn't always make sense either. Switching from rifle to pistol should be fast because in real life if you run out of ammo and need to switch to the pistol fast, you simple let go of the rifle, letting it hang by the sling, and pull out the pistol. Faster than reloading. Although the speed of the transitions isn't always the problem. The problem is that you are stuck and can't move or do anything when they happen. That feeling of losing control can be frustrating, if that's addressed then most people should be happy with transition times being realistic. I just launched the game to have a look at those transitions, they don't seem ridiculously fast to me. With the AT weapons, the game doesn't simulate having to arm them. Having that simulated by making the character switch to it in slow motion would look silly and confuse players.
