Still no Manhattan artillery bug fix!!!
Maddmatt replied to Psyckiller's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Maybe someone else needed the artillery after Razor team was hogging it for so long without using it. -
It's not a collectors edition, it's a limited edition. Meaning the first so many people who pre-order get that, the rest get the regular edition. You can also unlock those things in the regular edition apparently. It's just that the limited edition gets it from day one. Anyway, seeing such stupid unlocks has made me change my mind about this game. I was interested in it but it looks like it's just aimed at children  Lame kiddies game. Next.

Is there a list of games that use this engine? I'm curious because I want to see what it can really do. Wish I had the time to toy with these things. Maybe I'll download it and play around when I can. Edit: Thanks, found it. Hidden under "Gallery". Some broken links there...

The game uses servers, it is "classic dedicated server style join and play" as you say. The netcode is mostly good, the odd bug though but nothing that renders it unplayable as far as I know. It's hard to say whether you'll enjoy it. Some people love it, others hate it. It hasn't got much in common with any other game (besides the previous BIS games of course). Multiplayer is best enjoyed with a good group. Public play varies from good to bad depending on where and when you happen to be and who you encounter. Also it is half price on Steam for the weekend. If you're quick you might be able to get it.

Did you even read the replies before posting that? It's not confirmed officially there. Just looks some moron posting rubbish. Is there anything official on this?

I doubt it. If one does, he probably doesn't have a house :p

ATI cars have supported some kind of Tessellation for years (Truform), since DX8 maybe. Xbox 360 supports it too. But it's hardly used, I guess because only ATI supports it. Should have become standard with DX9, but I guess they had to hold it back so that they would have something cool to advertise as a new feature in a later DX  I guess the old Truform isn't as good though. There's a good DX11 video showing Dirt 2 using DX11, making some good use of tessellation especially with the crowd and water. HD: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/uk-directx-dirt-2/58055 SD: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/uk-directx-dirt-2/58054 I recommend you watch the HD version if you can to get a good look at the graphics.

Sure would be more exciting to watch than a bunch of idiots kicking/throwing/hitting/bouncing/batting a ball. It would make a good terrorist training tool though, but it works both ways.

A.C.E. Advanced Combat Environment Mod 2
Maddmatt replied to sickboy's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Seems your sound volume is dangerously loud. If your sound system is set up so that a sound clip from your PC can damage your hearing then you seriously need to turn it down. -
Sounds more like some unusual graphical glitches. Make sure drivers are up-to-date. As for the game being on "double speed", did you press the time acceleration buttons? By default it's the - and = keys (next to backspace). They can speed the game to 2x or 4x, can be used on long boring journeys and the like.

illegal copies may degrade ? WTF
Maddmatt replied to 9thAircav's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Do an anti-virus scan on your PC with something like Avast. If anything modified the EXE it could trigger the copy protection. -
Marketing BS. Come on, that's rich when their last game never even came out on PC. What's the last thing they gave PC gamers? A tiny BF2 expansion that was released years ago. Since then they've been console exclusive. Well I'll buy BF: BC2 mainly based on what I hear about the single player. But I wont buy this "we care about the PC" type bullshit.

I'm pretty sure there is a "Funny videos" thread buried deep within the forum. Some searching might find it... Anyway, that guy is high on something. If that was alcohol I think he would be throwing up all over the place.

Just do plenty of research into the university you pick. Some of them are pretty bad. The warnings of high crime are no exaggeration. University of Cape Town is very good, I know some people studying there. Low crime as far as SA goes. University of Kwa-Zulu Natal, I'd avoid that one. Spent my first semester there only because I lived nearby. Couldn't understand some lecturers because there English was terrible. High crime area too. New Zealand is a great place to study. Seems to be a popular choice too, especially for Chinese students. I've been at Massey University for a while now, I would recommend it. Very safe area too. University of Auckland is also worth a look. Visa might be a bit difficult to get and studying here wont be cheap.

Selling Mods and Scripts for Profit
Maddmatt replied to Preacher1974's topic in BOHEMIA INTERACTIVE - GENERAL
Aren't you mixing that up with Carrier Command? Black Element is involved there. But I'm not sure about OA. But I agree, high quality professional content that comes with a good campaign is worth paying for. But it needs to be the full package to attract people - units, weapons, campaign, MP missions, map, and new features. -
Wrong. AI takes into account the clutter at the point you're standing at. If you're pront in grass, they can't see you unless you do something to reveal yourself. Was proved in tests that someone did and he posted up Youtube videos. Also stated by a dev. From my observations it seems to take a couple seconds for the rest of the squad to register the exact position. Could be wrong though. Spotting vehicles through hills was fixed in a patch, was due to hearing being too good. They will not track you out of sight unless you're in a loud vehicle or on foot and within a few metres (footsteps). Otherwise they estimate your last position based on when they last saw you. AI does have it's flaws. The way it deals with grass is too simplistic and does not take into around grass between you and them that blocks LOS, usually noticeable if you're lying on an area that has no grass but there is grass blocking your view of the AI. Personally I just with BIS kept most of the grass on Chernarus short with small patches of tall grass.

I know, I liked it back when it started. Personally I don't care for online play when it comes to games like that. But some LAN play with a few friends is fun. Doubt I'll buy it though. Screw them increasing the price, fail at fighting piracy.

PC versions of arcade style games get neglected these days. The PC market for a game like COD is very small compared to the consoles.
-
This thread can't be for real.
-
I guess it was removed. DOF didn't work that great in A1 at times. It wouldn't always focus where you want. Many people turned PP off. If it was implemented a bit better and focussed where you were aiming, I'd be happy to have it back.
-
The game probably does, but whether your PC can handle it is another issue ;) Doing large scale stuff requires other areas to be cut down. Physics, AI, world detail etc.

What artifacts? I remember Suma mentioned AA can cause artifacts with shadows, but I haven't noticed any.

Island Panthera for ArmA 2
Maddmatt replied to icebreakr's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Place the clouds module. In the mission editor under "modules". Anyway, I had a quick fly around the map. Looks great. Satmap is improved. Still has a few shadows and dark spots but nothing serious. The valleys could make for some great helicopter missions, plenty of places to hide from the enemy here. -
kiska / skira ,does anyone want to see this island in A2 ? (the OFPDR island)
Maddmatt replied to 9thAircav's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
I'm sure we can do better than copying the DR campaign ;) Would be awesome to have this map, maybe with more useful stuff on it like some villages and maybe one or two small cities (maybe cities are a bit much though). The one in DR seems too 'dead'.
