That tab idea started with Safari, it's a WebKit feature. The idea is to sandbox each tab so if one crashes the rest aren't affected. I think Mozilla are putting a large emphesis on performance and optimisation with version 4, so it should end up being lighter and less resource intensive as a result. In theory. Sadly the only browser that really needs to improve isn't. Damn you IE! DIE ALREADY!

That sums up the consumer market perfectly, not just with games. People settle for mediocrity and don't bother looking for or demanding something better because they're "too busy" to try.
-
It's due to the different markets. Pretty much all software with keys does this. Installing a copy of Windows for example from the UK with a US key will class it as American. You can change the language settings and so on during installation, but on the records it still counts as an American copy. They give out keys in the different markets. They'll work with each other but tend to lock the defaults to where the key is from.

Wondering why hardware power will allow us to unleash the full power of Arma2
Madus_Maximus replied to wasserkool's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
If they write a 64bit extension and executable then all the memory limitations will be solved for a good number of years, seeing as 64bit can address 16EXABYTES. On the subject of multiple cores then they'd need to write a good chunk of code that performs proper parallell processing, which is very difficuly and very time consuming. The engine is made for the 32bit era, as are all other current game engines. Some just have some gaffa tape holding on some limited 64bit and parallell processing support. Wait until we get true 64bit gaming engines written from the ground up. It'll be a while though considering the way PC gaming is getting more and more niche. -
Mid-day to be neutral.

And he'd be banned almost as fast lol.

Something to remember is that with the latest patch they now use supressive fire FAR FAR more often and FAR more effectively. They'll know your last known whereabouts and will suppress the area. You may just be unfortunate enough to get hit by one of the random rounds being fired in the general area.

I've had AI hide behind cover and pop out to take a shot at me or friendly units plenty of times, or toss a smoke grenade (not all that often but I've seen them do it). They're not as proficient at taking cover as humans but they're pretty damn good for non scripted 100% dynamic TRUE AI. The AI ranges from absolutely retarded to incredibly intelligent and realistic. You also have to consider the fact that in real life not everybody is that smart. You'll likely see real people act as stupidly as the AI in ArmA 1/2 from time to time. I think they did a brilliant job of improving it from "meh" to "oooh". AI was always an issue in OFP and ArmA 1 but now it's like the polar opposite most of the time.

HAHAHAHAHAHA that made my day lmao!

It's not so much Flash that's the problem, it's the crappy piss poor plug-in. It's so poorly coded it's laughable. The optimisation of it is almost non existant and it's especially bad for the Mac. Adobe either don't care or they're just taking their sweet ass time making a new better version. Personally I think they should start the plug-in from scratch and write it natively in 64 AND 32bit. It would be interesting if they implemented an Air like system where it could be run on multiple platforms with one time coding. I'm not sure how that would work for a plug-in rather than a web app though. I'm sure they have the technical knowledge to do something like this though lol.

I still don't see all these "mountains of bugs" people keep going on about. Yes ArmA 1 was pretty damn buggy and slapped together half heartedly (BIS even admitted this and then made up for it with some stellar patches that added a bunch of new content and missions). I haven't really seen them with ArmA 2 though. There's some quirkyness here and there and the AI can still spaz out and be monumentally stupid, but that goes with any true AI rather than scripted stuff. The biggest issue for me was performance, but then I don't blame the game or BIS for it, I blame my PC. I built this thing just before ArmA 1 came out so expecting awesome things in ArmA 2 is a bit shortsighted, but I've stuck a newer shiny GPU in the thing and all's good in the world lol. BIS have a great track record of actually supporting their games for a long time as you say. Sadly with the complexity of the games they make it's pretty damn hard, time consuming and VERY expensive to test it as well as maybe we'd like them to, but most of us know to expect a great solid foundation, lots of brilliant features and awesome detail, but lacking that last bit of polish on some implementation that gradually becomes polished gold with patches.

I think him having contact with Codemasters staff inflated his ego, which is totally understandable, I'm not having a go at him for that. But, somewhere along the line he just seems to have turned from objective to "I hate ArmA 2" and "I LOVE DR", more or less since that contact with CM. It's clouded his judgement so he's defending something because it seems more personal to him now. That's what I gather from it anyway. Just let him do as he wants. One bit of advice I'd give him (that others also gave him) is not to poke the hornets nest. Coming to this forum and bashing BIS games is one sure way to cause people to be hostile towards you.

No mod tools and no dedicated server files for BF:BC2

You'll be looking for the "Full Photoshop Effect" mod that's still in BETA. Codemasters are keeping it close to their chest until they can perfect it for real time use! In all seriousness, as hinted at above those screenshots CM posted are all doctored. They're manipulated to look better than the game really is. Lots of publishers insist on this, they did the same with OFP and Resistance back in the day. I never saw the game look as good as the back of the Resistance box until a good year or so later with a bunch of mods. BIS keep it pure, they show us shots from actual gameplay sessions and only open it in Photoshop to stick the branding on and maybe change the dimentions for their various uses.

You'll want to look for a squad/clan if you want to do it properly. Most public servers don't have billions of players because most missions are done on private ones. As far as the battles and so on go, it's limited by the power of the server and the players machines. If you had the processing power you could theoretically have 4000 v 4000 v 4000 v 4000 v 4000 players on 5 different sides with all humans, if not more. It's very hardware dependent, rather than having artificial limitations.

Who needs Dorchester armour when you have DR trees?

It's quite common for publishers to gain the name rights to games, at least it used to be. The trick is to trademark them before you sign with the publisher so you hold all control over the way the name is used.

I think this is more a case of Codemasters being the only real British game developer and publisher left. The rest have either been bought up by big foriegn publishers and shipped off to California (because of the wonderful blue-collar office worker laws that means they can force them to work overtime with no extra pay! Yey! There's a reason the tech industry lives there lol). The rest are either developers who get published by big foreign companies or they simply went out of business. It kind of sums up British industry really. Foreigners do it cheaper and nobody here seems to care any more.

The government send in a list of potential candidates to the Palace. It's not really down to the Queen or the Royal Family who gets them as they're not elected representitives of the nation, it has to be done by those who are elected, aka the government. Sadly as we all know, most governments are out of touch with reality and live in a world where mediocraty is king. Codemasters sums this way of thinking up to a T.

I just made this quick vid to show the difference in how long you live with ArmA 2 AI when you run around them lol. I have no idea what cuases the ghosting effect. It does it no matter what settings I use. Odd.

All I can say is... LOL! That's truely a failure. It just proves Luhgnut point even more.
