    Red dawn russian helo

Is it the same helicopter that Dolph Lundgren (the best actor in the universe ) fights in 'Red Scorpion'? I remember it had some crop-dusting equipment on it (to spray the civilians with some nasty chemical), and Dolph shot it down with some crappy non-existant double-barrel machine gun in the final showdown...

    What's your favourite war novel?

5--></span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote (UniverseMan @ Dec. 08 2002,015)</td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">Check out 'Red Storm Rising' by Tom Clancy.  You won't be disappointed.<span id='postcolor'> Too right, one of the best i've ever read. You might want to check out other Tom Clancy books as well, they're all pretty good (despite the fact that he doesn't actually write all of them himself  ) 'The Bear and the Dragon' is a ripper book about a hypothetical war between Russia and China in the near future, where the US comes to Russia's aid. 'The Dogs of War' by Frederick Forsyth is pretty good, although a bit old - about mercenaries in central Africa. 'The Thin Red Line' by James Jones is the original book that the movies were based on, and is pretty graphic for it's time. (just saw that Frisbee also recommended this ) 'Rainbow Six' also by Tom Clancy isn't strictly a 'war' novel, but it's got a hell of a lot of guns and shooting. Assuming you haven't read these already Â

    2s19 released

Yup, looks like a different model to the Paladin to me too... It's a great effort, and nice to see people bringing some sorely needed equipment out for the poor old Russians. Just have a couple of complaints.. 1. The textures are good on the sides, but don't seem to match those on the front (of the chassis at least) and the back (of the turret). 2. No optics, as ppl have said before Other than that, it's good stuff. I'm looking forward to the next release of it, assuming that this isnt a final release...

    Operation northstar tank pack

The movement etc. of the NSV is a pretty minor issue I think...it's great just to have it there, even if it is inactive, especially if you're playing against the East tanks - being a soldier (or a West tank commander) and seeing a T-72/T-90 come rumbling along with the NSV on the roof is more realistic/pleasing to see.

What if the company that made flashpoint...

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote (Kermit @ Dec. 07 2002,13:13)</td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">The machine pistols not only suck, but they are rendered useless by the fact that we already have a very good suppressed weapon (the integrally suppressed MP5). Â And why do we need so many civilian add-ons? Â I can understand the bus. Â It gives the towns a little more atmosphere. Â But a motorcycle, while maybe fun, is totally unecessary. Â There's no need to make a combat game into The Sims just to "make the towns more realistic.<span id='postcolor'> If you want a game that's as realistic as possible (ie. weapon accuracy) you have to admit that adding new weapons will increase that level of realism too. Civilians add a lot of atmosphere, and its pretty reasonable to expect civvies to turn up somewhere in a conflict these days. The motorcycle isn't unnecessary, it's a totally different (and hence more enjoyable) way of getting around when OFP:R came out and it adds to the atmosphere (getting away from those Ruskies at the start of the campaign wouldnt be as exciting if we had to zip off in our Trabants ). Besides, without the motorbike, we wouldnt have been able to make things like Select This's Kawasaki KLR-250, which is even more useful than the original motorcycle.

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote (Acecube @ Dec. 06 2002,08:43)</td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">THIS makes the difference between just another ego-shooter and a tactical/strategical-SIM!<span id='postcolor'> Weapons being (arguably) too accurate makes OFP the same as Counter-Strike or BF1942? Nope - pretty much everything in OFP differentiates it from other mindless shooters. Sure, weapons accuracy is an integral part of a military/infantry sim, but it is no means the only deciding factor as to how realistic it is! Besides (as proven by the lively debate here ) not everyone agrees with you, and having BIS decrease the accuracy of weapons will undoubtably piss a lot of people off. Therefore it's a job to be done by a modmaker, not the game makers (ie. the dispersion of fire in the new SEB Nam Pack). I understand that there are problems with doing this for online play, but you'd expect that if enough people felt like you, they'd incorporate an 'increased-dispersion' addon onto their servers (which you'd have to have of course) It doesn't really matter if you think it's too accurate (and therefore not realistic at all) if everyone else thinks its fine...

    Wow another stupid question

If it didn't come with any documentation (readme.txt etc.) then have a look at the place where you downloaded it from - they might have usage instruction... BTW, if you know the name of the author, post it here - never know, the author might be floating around here

    Year 2002-looking back

It was a choice between the release of Resistance and the release of Oxygen/Breathe/User-made addons...but i had to go with Oxygen etc. As damn good as Resistance is, the ability of the community to make new units properly I thought was probably the biggest leap forward

Born Melbourne, Aust. and moved to Perth, Western Australia when I was the grand old age of 1.
  12. Mr. Snrub

    Any sam made?

The DKM mod has made a 2S6M Tunguska for the East and the ADATS for the West You can get them here I would like to see some more SAMs though - things like the SA-13 would be nice... I think (correct me if I'm wrong) that all SAMs in OFP have to use the OFP radar to detect and track units, rather than detect the IR signature...

    Sr-47 / sr-74 addon

That's one big freakin' gun in that picture! Looking very impressive indeed - can't wait to have a crack at it in-game Just 1 question - what sort of sounds are you going to use in-game? Both the standard M16 and AK47 sounds are a bit weak I think, and having a "beefier" (for the lack of a better word) as in Fliper's M4's, certainly makes weapons nicer to use

For instance, I would never want OFP to be completely realistic - that would entail having to endure countless boring/unfair things that happen in real life. Real-life isn't fair, but a game has to be balanced in order to sell. I grant you, there are a quite a few issues in OFP that need to be resolved, but for the majority of people, these are things that can easily be overlooked when looking at OFP as a whole package...Resistance even more so... As far as I can tell, any problems occurring 1.75 onwards are overwhelmed by the improvements to the actual gameplay... You have to think of this from BIS' point of view - they have been supporting OFP for longer than they perhaps needed to, and fixing some of the problems that many people complain about are perhaps too time/money intensive to warrant considerable attention to...I for one would be happy to let BIS move onto something like OFP:2 and let the great community we have here carry on the good work

    Operation northstar tank pack

Great work, as per usual from Op. Northstar. Good to see some good Russian/East units coming out nowadays...I particularly like the commander's NSV on top of the turret - even if it is inactive, its nice to see it being modelled. Just a couple of questions... 1. The gunner can't change weapons (ie. from Sabot to MG) while the commander can - is this to make the commander's role larger? 2. When selecting the Sabot (at least in the M1 tanks) does he say "meat"? Excellent work, keep it up Edit: Just discovered Q.1 is only relevant to East tanks, not the M1s

What if the company that made flashpoint...

Animals would no doubt add a nice element to the game - especially those who want to go a-huntin' - but BIS (who made OFP) would need to make new animations for the animals, and they may not have the time to do so if they're working on their new project... Perhaps in OFP:2 Although there is supposedly a program someone's developed (Teacup or something?) that will allow us to edit/create new animations, so we may animals sooner than we think

    Christmas tree lights

As far as I can remember, the Xmas trees come out when your computer clock reaches the 24th (or whatever date it is), not the time in the editor. Just change the time on your computer clock to the 24th of December Christmas lights would be great, but Santa might want to avoid Nogova...i'm sure someone's out there waiting for him with an SA-7

    Seb nam pack 2 out!

Just finished downloading/testing it, and I have to say it is absolutely terrific - all the new weapons and units are extremely well done indeed, including the island. Setting the time to midday with the worst weather is something to be experienced The only problems I have - minor ones at that - are some of the weapon sounds, the DShK in particular. Just seems like it could use a different sound to the M2HB....something a little heavier and 'clunkier' for instance. Anyway, the pack is tremendous...all your hard work is much appreciated

  23. The textures need quite a bit of work still, especially the desert camo....the SAS troops look more like Royal Marines and i don't think they would roll their sleeves up either... The M16s look pretty good though
