    I like to think that BI are giving us subtle clues about the "secret" stuff that's in development. For example, the new map was described as "very fresh" in SITREP 82. The word "fresh" can be used synonymously with "cold" or "chilly", although AFAIK it's not particularly common in English. (More so in German.) Still, perhaps a hint at a cold map with snow, which would certainly be new as far as BI-made maps go. One recent engine change on the dev branch related to adjusting ground clutter coloring based on the satellite map does indicate that they are working on a map with contrasting ground/clutter colors. Then there's the mention of "positive noises emerging from [their] top-secret R&D department". Positive noises = sound R&D team? Again, there is some recent dev branch activity related to sound (attenuation, volume and distance of audibility) that seems to confirm this. Or maybe I'm just grasping at straws. :)

    Do something about what? If you're expecting BIS to take legal action against someone for using unofficial (mod) content without the content creator's permission, I think you will be disappointed. BIS can only legally enforce their own EULA/TOS, which does not cover how unofficial content is licensed or used. In other words, if server owner A is breaking mod maker B's license, that's pretty much none of BIS' business. There may be consequences on these forums, but that's more a matter of courtesy toward the original content creator. BI cannot legally enforce a third party's intellectual property rights or licenses. NOTE: I am not a BIS employee; this is just my personal view on the matter.

  7. Illfonic (the guys building the FPS module) did an AMA on reddit a few days ago. Apparently, only certain weapons will have recoil strong enough to affect your trajectory.

  13. That [0, 0, 0] part after lightAttachObject is the relative position to the player. I think if you set it to something like [0, 5, 0], the light spot should always be 5m in front of the player. (Or perhaps -5 instead of 5, I can't test right now.) The problem is it won't raise or lower if you look up or down, and it won't be blocked by walls, similar to normal lights.

    I don't mind the futuristic setting too much, but I will agree that it was an unexpected break from the OFP/Arma tradition of realism and it's understandable that some people are disappointed with it. Speaking as a big fan of the Arma series but also of all things sci-fi, I think if anything they should have gone all out and made a full sci-fi game (like what BF2142 was to BF2), rather than this in-between, "kind or realistic but with different names" stuff. It just seems weird. Assuming they decide to make an Arma 4, my vote would be on realistic modern day equipment (with real weapon/vehicles names) first, or full blown BF2142-style sci-fi second. One way or the other, not in-between. If anyone is expecting them to "change it back" in Arma3 or even the expansion, I think you'll be disappointed. Whatever reasons they had for going down this path, it's almost certainly too late to go back during this iteration of the game.

Other people have said all there is to say about the stereo sound issues, so I'll focus on one other thing that is bugging me right now: When I perform a "hard landing" (not a crash) in a chopper, for example the Hellcat, the sound is wrong. It starts off pretty good with something like a bump/bang of the skids hitting the ground, but this sound loops every few seconds ("bang" ...... "bang"....), and it's missing a kind of "scraping" sound that I would expect. The crash sound sample itself is quite good, but it shouldn't be looped. (Sounds with prominent spikes like a "bang" should never be looped, unless it's for an automatic weapon.) Instead the bang should be played once, and while the skids are sliding across the ground, there should be a scraping sound.
