    joystick

Biggest joystick benenfit for me is that choppers no longer change elevation on thier own. In other words, when flying with keyboard and mouse, if you go over a hill, the helicopter will go up as the land goes up. With a joystick, helicopters maintin a constant altitude above sea level, making it a lot easier to fly through mountains and hills, and a LOT more realistic.

I have a question about Footmunch's F-14 and the Nimitz: I could have sworn that I used to be able to land his F-14 on the Nimitz addon, but lately when I try it either explodes or the landing gear go up. Was the F-14 ever made compatible with Hawk's Nimitz or is it just my imagination? If so, are there any plans to update the F-14 addon to make it compatible?

    The end of a Legend

The end of an era: Video Article The last air wing to fly the F-14 Tomcat returned from Iraq last weekend, marking the end of the final combat deployment of this great legend of American airpower. Â From what I can tell it will still be used stateside for carrier qualifications and such until Sept when it will finally be completely retired. Anyone else a bit saddened by this? Â One of the most beautiful aircraft ever in my opinion. It was made famous by the movie Topgun, one of my favorite movies when I was younger. Â I feel like Im losing part of my childhood.

@Ironsight, any plans to include some sort of towing script for it? I know the current towing scripts aren't perfect but theyre still very functionable. @eestikas and the_shadow: PLEASE QUIT THREAD HIJACKING

    Winter Olympics - Torino 2006

I have been watching a ton of curling, curling kicks ass. One day last week I think I watched a whole-day marthon of it. This sport rules. The girls from the US team are pretty hot too, to bad they got eliminated today. Oh and for the scoring, its whoever has their rocks closer to the center at the end of the inning (called an end). So if team A has one rock closer to the center than team B's closest rock, team A gets 1 pt and team B gets none. If team A has 3 rocks closer than team B's closest rock, they get 3 pts and team B gets none. In each inning, only one team scores. Get it?

The guages you get in BIS aircraft are there. Other than a couple of addons which had a decent attempt for a HUD (like the DKM MI-28), this is as good as it gets in OFP Yeah theyre there....but they dont move, theres no needle on them, they are non-functioning. Take a look.... As for the Hud Footmunch usually implements one after further betas are released, so I would presume that he is going to add it to this plane in the future.

    Su-33 Navalised Flanker

Great plane but it isnt solid, I can walk right through it. Also, my biggest complaint, as with all of Footmunchs planes, is no working guages. With the short view distances of OFP it really helps to have guages to let you know if your losing altitude or how fast you are going.

    L118/M119 howitzer

The Ranger SOV? Wow that goes some time back. Last time I checked it wasn't up to todays standards. Maybe I'll restart work on it but don't expect it soon. Sorry lol, I was looking up your past work and saw the RSOV from Jan 2005, but I mistook it for Jan 2006. Still, it did look promising.

Ironsight are you still working on that Ranger SOV? Sorry for being a little bit offtopic.

Looks good, one thing Ive always wanted was some fully functional howitzers. We have all the components for them: towing scripts, CoC for ai controlled artillery, the Our Weapons aiming method for user controlled artillery, and even sling load scripts for moving artillery by air. But noone has taken the time yet to combine all these.

    ACU/M16A4 or BDU/M16A2...

Now I am no expert but neither are a lot of people who have already shared their opinion so here goes mine: From all the pictures Ive seen, most of the Army's frontline units, they use the M4A1. Â This is why we saw so many pictures of the M4A1 when OIF started because all of the frontline units like the 101st and 82nd airborne, 2nd and 3rd Armored Calvary, and 3rd Mech. Inf Divisions were deployed in the beginning. Â However, since the 'end of the war' a lot of reserve and national guard units have been deployed, who are still stuck with the M16A2. Â Also, a lot of the support batallions still use the M16A2. Â This is why we see more pics of the M16A2 then we did in the beginning of the war. Furthermore, some of the Army's recently constituted divisions, the 'high-tech' mech infantry batallions, are using the M16A4. Â This would include all the new Stryker batallions. Now these are just general guidelines and of course nothing is universal in the Army. Also, for you non-Americans, dont confuse the Army with the Marines. Â They are the big users of the M16A4, not the Army. The Marines have pretty much fully switched to the M16A4 since just after the beginning of OIF. Â Before that they used the M16A2, and the only units in the Marines that use M4s are special units such as Force Recon etc. Â However, like the Army, many of the support and reserve units in the Marines still use the A2. Now for camo: From what I can understand, pretty much any Army unit that rotates over to Iraq since sometime last year gets sent there with the new ACU. Â The only units that still have BDU's are the ones that were there before the ACU was implemented. Â So sometime soon all Army units in Iraq should be wearing the ACU. Â However, like always there are going to be exceptions, most notably the special operations community. Â Also, it will probably be awhile before all the reserve and support units get ACU. The Marines have pretty much fully switched over to MARPAT camo for some time now, before that they wore BDU's, and they never have and never will wear ACU. So in the end, I don't think either of the poll choices would be fitting for the Army in the near future. Â The best choice would be ACU and M4A1's.

Why is supersonic flight so dangerous?

Supersonic aircraft also have to overcome a third form of drag known as 'wave drag' that is related to the Work an aircraft does on the air when a shock wave is created. To overcome this drag, more power is needed and so supersonic aircraft require more powerful engines. One way wave drag is reduced is by reducing the angle of the shockwave, attempting to make it as near horizontal as possible. This is why high-speed aircraft have very sharp leading edges and nose sections, as this reduces the angle of the shock wave. Also, wave drag is a function of the density of air, which is why supersonic aircraft fly at high altitudes where the air is thinner.

What do you *HOPE* will be in ArmA?

More than anything I want the weapon limitations for vehicles removed meaning: -multiple doorgunners for helos (most important to me) -turrets on planes -missles for car class vehicles Id also like to see car class vehicles have the same options as tanks such as commander postions, turn in/out, proper weapon sight views etc.

@Laser Any chance you could include an Air Force helo pilot to go along with the PJs? It was the only branch missing from your pilot pack.

    COMBAT! HMMWVs 1.2 Release

Im not sure if this is a bug or not: the TOW Hmmwv's can only carry one person in cargo. The two back seats cant be filled. And Im going to have the question that everyone's dieing to know, is Combat! going ot release any new addons for OFP now that the VBS1 army pack is done? I was really looking forward to the Sheridan and MLRS.

    COMBAT! HMMWVs 1.2 Release

Holy crap, I dont know what I should be more excited about: the updated hummers, or the fact that Combat! is still concerned with OFP

Are you still doing a version with the big goofy helmet like in these pics? Real Version Your Old Version I think that really sets them apart from the other addons

    OH-58D Kiowa Warrior v1.0

Funny, I was just thinking about asking if you could add removeable doors for the Kiowa and lo' and behold you've already included it, awesome work man! @Nodunit - that looks alot better. Is there any way you could fix the texture stretching on the top and bottom of the helo, and also on the .50 cal like I mentioned before?

    OH-58D Kiowa Warrior v1.0

Ok after playing with it I have a few issues: My biggest complaint, which I also had with the Apache, is that the lighting and reflection properties seem messed up on the model. To see what I mean, look at where the doors meet with the side of the helicopter. The edge of the door is super reflective, while the side isnt, when they should both be the same shade. If you dont get what I mean Ill post a picture Im pretty there is a function in O2 where you can just select all the faces you want to light correctly and then fix it. Im no modelling expert though so I could be remembering wrong. 2nd, there is some really bad texture stretching on the .50cal. Other than that its a really great addon, keep up the good work Franze and I look forward to whatever you release next.

Are you sure thats the OFP engine in that video?? JK, it looks like a totally different game though. Im simply amazed

    OH-58D Kiowa Warrior

I vote for two ffar pods with he rockets. Â It seems like the most versatile option. The stingers probably have never been actually used in combat and probably never will be unless America is in a war where they dont have air superiority. Â The hellfires from what I can tell are really only used against bunkers and buildings in support of ground troops, the kiowas arent really meant for anti-armor. Â The .50 is pretty much limited to light trucks and infantry, and in OFP infantry stay pretty spread out so it is hard to hit them with a single .50 mounted on an aircraft, I dont think the .50 has the same dispersion as miniguns
