Sounds good to me. Â I think its a good idea making that old CLSA model into 80's SLA. Â (By the way, I hope you got my message. Â My inbox was full, but I cleared it out earlier today). Â Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>

More shippies! Â and This last ship at the end in the second picture may or may not be used. Â We need to get permisson from Gnat as that is his Oliver Hazzard Perry class ship (used by the Egyptians) and he may not allow us to use it without everything working absolutely perfectly. Â I'm hoping either that he'll help us getting it (and maybe the rest of our naval vessels) working nicely or that he'll just let us use a somewhat downgraded version while his ArmA version is top of the line (as we're not looking to compete with his work). Â I don't have a problem with that as it's his work and I'll just be happy if I can take off Egyptian naval helicopters from it and if it can launch missiles and fire guns in some reasonable fashion. Â But if he says no, we'll just have to scrap it. I should also mention that the OSA-II ship in our pics is not the final verson that we'll be using. The final version is being done by the RACS mod and hopefully should be ready soon. So for you guys in the RACS mod, don't freak out. We still plan on using your version as long as everything is working well on it. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD> -

Most of our boats are now converted... they just need a bit of work on them before they'll be ready. Here's a pic of our old Fast Attack Boat used by our S-13 Naval Commandos: This boat is working beautifully and is excellent for inserting small teams or providing a bit of heavy machine gun fire for troops on the shore. The boat is also very hard to hit because it moves VERY fast and is just alot of fun to drive around on the water. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD> -

Yup he does. Â Yes, sorry, I meant the FN-MAG. Â I am using his FN-MAG from one of his packs already, so that area is taken care of. Â It just seems like the FAL support variant seemed to be much more common in the 6 Day and Yom Kippur Wars. Â But anyhoo, hopefully I'll hear from him soon or he'll read our discussion as I know he drops in and reads our thread once in awhile. Â I just hate bothering him because I know many other mods are pestering him make new stuff or to fix lots of little bugs here and there. Â So I guess its not critical and I'm really enjoying the IMI FAL that he made for us. Â The standard Uzi with the wooden stock used in the 60's would also be cool. Â So hopefully he'll send us the MLOD version so that we can continue to develop the IMI pack a bit more. Â Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD> -

Sadly I don't have the MLOD for it. Â I need to ask Vilas if he wants us to develop the IMI pack for him if he is too busy. Â I'm assuming also that a similar bipod could be found on another weapon and pasted onto the support variant of the IMI FAL. Â The hardest part would be remodelling the muzzle device although to be honest I missed that difference and thought that it just had a thicker barrel with a bipod added. lol. Â I know that the M240 had been used by the IDF for a very long time, but oddly enough, there are very few pictures of it in use maybe because it was much more expensive? Â Whatever the case I think it's a shame that they replaced it with the Negev in infantry units in the modern IDF units. Â My old US Army Reserve unit had our 7.62x51mm M60 MG's replaced with the M249 SAW and while the M249 was lighter and easier to handle and clean, it was also woefully deficient when it came to medium to long range capability. Â The M60 was probably my favorite weapon system overall probably because I could easily hit 600 meter targets and was even able to hit 800 meter targets (using iron sights) with the help of a spotter/assistant gunner and his binoculars. Â If I was an IDF Negev gunner, on a battlefield I'd probably try to get ahold of a PKM as quickly as possible. Â Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD> -

Yup that and I have only a vauge idea to add all that stuff to a tank. If we get someone who's super hardcore at adding the fancy laser/targeting system scripts and stuff to tanks, we'd be happy to let them fix up our tanks. Aside from that however I'm just happy if I can get the tank gun recoil fx to work. (Thanks to ModEmMaik for getting our Mk2 tank recoil to work... I still need to try and add that FX to our other tanks). Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD> -
I've only had that problem rarely. If they wander away just order them back over to you. But generally only a few go on an outflanking maneuver...the rest generally stay around me. Personally I like it that way as the AI soldiers show initiative. Although oddly enough, its often the medic that is first to go charging into the enemy. I'm not sure why that is. I have crazy gung-ho medics! lol One thing I really like is how snipers often take higher ground and snipe from the flanks at long range. That is a very cool effect. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>

Awesome! I was wondering when someone was going to make a SCARS rifle. I have to wait until I get home to try them out, but they look really nice from the screenshots. At first I thought it was a Alpha Spetsnaz team so was a little disappointed (as I don't think anyone's made a good Spetsnaz addon), but was happy again when I saw the SCARS. The SF units look pretty damn good as well. Nice work guys! Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD> -

Nah, the camera angle and the animation used just made one look bigger then the other. I should have switched the names around with the tall guy being "tiny". lol However, actually I might experiment with making some of the addons different sizes. Ah and yes you are correct and have an excellent eye. Yes indeed that is Vilas's SVT-40 from which some Swedish rifle was based on that Egypt bought the machinery for and manufactured the Hakim. However since they are so similar I decided to just call it a Hakim. I'm actually looking around locally for a Hakim. After reading all the reviews on the rifle, it apparently is one of better semi-auto battle rifles out there on the market with surprisingly good manufacturing compared to latter crappy Egyptian Ak-47 clones. I wanted to ask Vilas to make his SVT-40 into a proper Hakim for us, but he never replied to whether he could make the IMI FAL support variant so I assume that he is just insanely busy. I still need to get his permission to use this rifle, the K98 and K98S, and the Panzerfaust for our historic pack. I ran across some pics of 1967 IDF units with a Panzerfaust so I figured that I should include that. I would also include the Lee Enfield rifles but those go back to the 40's and 50's era which our mod is not going to cover as there are just WAY too many wierd uniforms and equipment. We can barely manage to simulate the 60's and 70's era as it is since we don't have our own addon model designer or texture artists. Everything you see are basically a mixture of modified Vilas/Topas units and BIS stuff mixed in with stuff converted from our OFP mod. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD> -

We got some Hamas insurgents in civilian clothes (some with mixed military and civilian clothes) but that's about all we have. Â We weren't planning on doing any of the 80's international terrorist groups. Â They were wierd back then...all mixed up together with European and Middle East terrorists often working together. Â Abu Nidal was one nasty s.o.b. Â It's ironic that Saddam Hussein finally had him assassinated (most likely anyways) right before the start of the last war as he had become a liability. But anyhoo...no, no ANO terrorists. Â It would perhaps be a good independent addon for someone to make...maybe a terrorist pack to include also some of the notorious European terrorist groups from the 80's as well. Â Might even be a good fit for the Project 85 mod. p.s. sorry to hear about your cousin. That sucks. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD> -

Overall this is by far my favorite mod for ArmA, however one very annoying thing (that I know is because its part of your mod Tony) is that if you save a game it puts into the addons list in the mission.sqm file "tr_obj". So any mission made with this addon is immediately not useable by anyone that doesn't have this mod. If there is any way to change that, that would be awesome. If not, mission makers just have to remember to manually delete that and then manually .pbo the file outside the mission editor. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>

Ah yes... that indeed will do Martin's work justice. Two door gunners is definitely better then one...and the M60 will do nicely! Excellent work. Can't wait to try these babies in a ArmA warzone. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>

I didn't see Vilas say anything particularly bad about the HVM mod. Â Col. Faulkner had a few choice words, but thats about it. lol Keep in mind that the good Colonel is a walking history book and is one of the most knowledgable people on this forum when it comes to firearms. However it would be interesting to compare the HVM FAL rifles to pictures of actual Greek FAL rifles. As you stated there are a ton of variants so perhaps their's are indeed a odd hybrid of SLR and FN-FAL rifles. Either that or they made a good looking rifle, but that was not quite accurate. It happens. I know my mod is guilty of plenty of inaccuracies done sometimes by accident and sometimes because we couldn't get a better model/textures. It is for that reason that we trust in Vilas when it comes to many of our weapons and so we use many of his weapon packs. Anyways... guys relax...it's just a game. Â Vilas was mainly upset because you were at first comparing his stuff to that of another mod's rather then to actual photographs originally. Â It's good that you posted a few photos in your later posts. Vilas likes constructive criticism based on historical data/real photographs. Â But really I think it's knitpicking as I think overall that his FAL rifles are quite lovely. Â I would recommend that you make your own personal FN-FAL as you mentioned that you were "having some fun" with the HVM Â FAL rifle. Â That's good. Just get permission from HVM to make your own stand-alone version and it should be a small enough addon to throw into a RAR/ZIP/7zip of any missions you make using it. You could also approach any Falklands War type mods and get them to use it perhaps. Â Anyways... Â everyone should take a deep breath, have a laugh, and just enjoy making addons and playing them. Â Speaking of which...I'm gonna go lead an infantry assault with my IDF Golani using Vilas's IMI FAL rifles and Uzis. Â Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>

Grim, you could always just ue a different weapon. Everytime I hold the IMI FN-FAL he made, I can only admire the workmanship of the model AND textures. Â The SLR also I don't think has rubber coatings. I've not held one but from the looks of it, I believe it just uses a synthetic polymer stock like the M16 rifles (which I have used). If it was rubber it would likely be much more dull looking. Personally I think the textures look fine on the SLR looking at the pics you posted of it. Any blacker and you would have a hard time seeing any details at all on it. Â Also texture mapping is not easy. If you can do a better job, then nicely ask him for the .p3d MLOD of that particular rifle and the textures for it. Â Then have a go at it. Vilas is usually working on a whole ton of different projects so cut him a little slack. Â The quality of this pack overall is very high given the small team of addon makers working with Vilas (who also work on other mods). Â Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>

Yes, only SpecOps and Sapers are allowed to put stachel charges or mines. Same way only Pilots, SpecOps and SLeaders are allowed to fly as a pilot etc etc. It has been written some posts before. Personally I don't like that only black ops and engineers can set satchels. Â In real life any well trained infantryman can do this. Â Sappers are generally used for more specialized explosives expertise such as breaching mine fields or if a complex explosives circuit is needed. Likewise disabling wired explosives and as well as defensive position construction are their jobs. Â I was in a U.S. Army (Reserve) Corp of Engineers in a (Combat, Heavy) engineer unit by the way. While I wasn't a sapper I had a fair amount of training in basic combat engineering as that was my unit's secondary job. Â At any rate, any infantryman can tell you that using a satchel charge and really detonating any basic C4 charge is not rocket science.... its as simple as detonating a claymore mine unless you are using det cord (which just requires a few more safety protocols is generally only used for specialized applications). Anyhoo... unless there is a scripting reason for not allowing all soldier's to set mines and satchels, I think it would be best if that limitation was removed at least on the satchels. Â Land mines require a bit of specialized training, but even those aren't too dificult to set after a few hours of training. Â Still landmines are generally the domain of engineers as generally they are laid out in a well mapped and documented fashion so as to allow ease of removal/destruction at a later date and so friendly forces don't blunder into them. Â Likewise mine clearing is fairly specialized as it requires expertise and training on a large range of landmines. Â Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>

Newly converted for us, is the MD-500 Defender in two versions: FFAR and TOW ATGM. Â UH-1N Anafa. Â This was the main transport/assault helicopter used by the IDF during the 80's and 90's. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD> -
I would recommend just converting all the Ranger variants made by Martin. Â I agree with what someone else said about the weapon layout being similar to the AH-6 when it is used as a military helicopter, although the U.S. Army version is the OH-58 Kiowa and is designed a bit differently. Â If you make a door gun version, something like a M60 on a sling (like someone had made in OFP for either this helicopter or the OH-6 (I forget which) would be ideal. Â 5.56mm weapons are not the ideal doorguns. Â The M60 MG is perhaps the most popular for that role and historically was the main weeapon used as a door gun on that helicopter. If you make pylon mounted weapons, please try to make it as close as possible to actual armed variants and not just do a ugly cut and paste job of any ol' rocket pods or MG's you can find. Â That would I think ruin Martin's excellent work where he REALLY strived for realism. Â Â I'm pretty sure he would be very pissed off if you did a rough chop shop job on his birds. Also on the Hughes 300, didn't Martin make a M*A*S*H* style medivac version as well? Â I would recommend converting that and any armed versions he made or at least copying and pasting the skid mounted stretchers or the weapons onto your currently converted models. Then save them as new models. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>

The problem with the colors is not converting the colors on most of the textures (although there are a TON of textures..ugh). Instead it's just the areas of the cockpit with the windows that turn black and lose transparency when they are converted. What's wierd the fuselage windows don't have this problem. Only the cockpit windows. So I'm not sure what's going on there, but I'm going to try out a few more things to fix it. Also before anyone says it, no, I can't just replace the glass textures as they are not seperate faces. The cockpit is just one big model section with no individual faces for the windows. But hopefully we'll figure out a solution. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD> -
Awesome Vilas! The Galatz would be cool, but probably more important for the Israeli pack is the FAL Support variant with the bipod...oh and K98, K98 Sniper, and Bazooka. Those are the 3 main WWII weapons that we need to use from your WWII pack (which is huge). The rest of the weapons I just use from your other packs. But I know your very busy. So whatever you do LoBo is VERY appreciative of your hard work. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>

Our historic IDF needed air transport.  So we gave them the Super Frelon by Bazaroid (who also made our Merkava Mk4). The cammo pattern is correct for the historical time period however just in the wrong color  I'm having tons of problems with alpha layers on the windows that keep turning solid every time I try editing the colors of the textures that include alpha window textures.   So we may end up just having to keep it in this navy blue-grey color.  Still the Super Frelon was one of the most important helicopters (despite their small number) used by the IAF/IDF in the 1968 and 1973 wars.  The good news is that the rear ramp animations are working nicely.
