But I won't upgrade just for sound alone. Also I will be leaving the choppers gunner where he is. He is a co/pilot and also spots for you while you fly. Â If I make this a passanger then he will not report targets to me when he spots them. I also played a game last night where there where only 2 of us.. 1 pilot and 1 gunner in the AH6. Â We had a blast .. I dont want to take this ability away from the vehicles.. because I feel it limits what can be done with it. MANUAL fire works with the pilot using the CTRL key. If you don't want to do this.. get a decent joystick. I use a "Microsoft force Feedback II" for flight and use the Q and Z keys for alt. Â The rotation of the joystick base allows you to control the rear rotors to spin the chopper. This is needed for fast extrations and drop off's..It really improved my flying when I got that joystick. Â I will never fly via mouse again..You can't do all the manuvers with only a mouse.. it opens up a whole new world with a rotating base joystick for the choppers. Plus the joystick allows you to set the fire to manual and when you fire.. it fires in automatic.. Issue solved Capt Moore<span id='postcolor'> A joystick is only good if you like flying with a joystick. I haven't tried one in OFP yet, but I hated using a joystick in most flight simulators...maybe because I only used cheap joysticks...I don't know. But I didn't like them and can't afford a new one and even if I did like them I couldn't use them because as I mentioned to you before, my game souncard is not working and my only other soundcard (a M Audio Delta-44) works for game sound, but doesn't have a MIDI/joystick port....and that card is not coming out as it's part of my home studio. Also the AI pilot by himself spots targets just as well as when he has a copilot from what I've seen of the modded version I have that only has a pilot. But oh well, like you told me you can't please everyone which is true, especially if noone else is asking for this feature except me. I guess I'll just have to use a modded AH-6 for now. Cargo plane, troop carriers, any large plane

A huge addon like that is something worth doing right. But if you can keep us updated on the progress cuz people all over the OFP community have been wondering what has happened to your airplane. </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote (Adammo @ July 08 2002,07:58)</td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">lol, I told everyone if you want to modify the choppers on your own.. don't tell me about the problems, you won't get support. Either you have a unauthorized copy of Resistance..(which I doubt) or you downloaded someone's modified version of the littlebirds. Â And I can't provide support for other peoples tinkerings with the choppers. Get the un-modifed choppers here: ofp-zone.de I hope this helps.. Capt Moore<span id='postcolor'> All these problems are precisely the reason why I hope that you come out with a update of your AH-6, otherwise like you see, there will be a whole bunch of different versions of your Little Birds floating around all over the place, some that work, some that don't work. Â Many of the ones posted unfortunately do not even clearly state in a read me file or somewhere that they won't work in Resistance or vice versa. Worst of all, many of these modified Little Birds will WRITE OVER your original Little Bird. So I hope that for the AH-6, you'll take out the gunner and just make that a passenger seat so that way the mission makers can decide whether or not to have a copilot and the PILOT will be able to easily fire on full auto (without using the CTRL key trick) if they use a mouse. Â The other main reason why people are trying to mod it is so that they'll get it working in Version 1.46. Â Not everyone has Resistance yet, and some people might not get around to buying Resistance for quite awhile. Â It would have been best to release a 1.46 version of the pack. Â But oh well... Â BIS should be paying you since a big reason a lot of people bought Resistance was so that they could use your helicopters. Â At any rate, PLEASE remove that gunner. Â There is really no good reason to have him in there when that spot can just be changed to a passenger position for a co-pilot/observer. Â Currently trying to lock onto infantry targets on the ground from a distance (in order to get the gunner to fire) is next to impossible. Also doing high speed strafing is impossible unless you hit the left CTRL key while firing, but usually my fingers are too busy controlling the other controls on the keyboard. Those little short 2-3 round bursts just don't cut it for area saturation which is the primary purpose of a minigun (filling a large area with a large amount of lead thus increasing the probability of striking enemy personel and/or equipment). Your idea of switching from 7.62mm to 5.56mm to up the fire-rate also sounded like a good one since the AI pilots/gunner doesn't fire the minigun at armored targets anyways. Â But I also think that the current fire-rate is just fine (about the same as Keg's Kiowa Warrior which I thought fired pretty darn fast). Â Anyways overall the helicopters are great but I hope that you continue to refine them and make them perfect! Â For starters you take up that offer about the improved rotor and minigun sounds. Â That would be very cool if the sounds are good! As always just take this as constructive criticism because these addons are damned good and you are very talented at this...but if the addons can be improved easily, no reason not to. The other BIS helicopters have this problem precisely because they have a gunner (like the Cobra and Apache). However try playing Keg's Kiowa Warrior and you will see how the minigun is supposed to work. It is possible to fix it, because I HAVE a fixed version that works great, but really I would rather see Adammo himself create a proper update to his own creations. We don't need a half-dozen different versions of his Little Birds floating around all over the place which is why it would be best if he did the fix by simply removing the gunner. He could always just make that seat a passenger seat, that way it would be up to a mission designer if they wanted to have an other pilot sitting there. Anyways, Max Res to Adammo if he fixes his AH-6 so that it doesn't need a gunner to fire full-auto. Without the gunner it has a ferocious rate of fire and performs exactly as it should. The AI pilot also uses it expertly and really blazes away with it. On one mission I made one AH-6 saved my ass when I was fired upon by two Russians while I was reloading. The AH-6 nailed both of them with his minigun just as their gun fire was zeroing in on me. That was an incredible experience!! Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>

The conflict in Colombia has been going on for so long and is so complex, that you're bound to offend somebody by using a real-life location. I think a MOD with this kinda storyline would have great potential. Like you mentioned above, you can have a branching storyline with mercenaries, DEA & CIA agents, special forces, rebels, etc. etc. Actually there's some very interesting stuff that could be done by basing missions off of real-world CIA's Seaspray unit ones during the 80s, and that article I mentioned. It could even become a several-part campaign/conversion each telling a different view (much like the OFP franchise) As always, if any of you need any pictures or mission ideas, I've got quite an archive & have read a lot about this stuff, so I could be useful in helping out. Cheers to all, --Legionnaire<span id='postcolor'> Yeah I guess you're right. I'm half-Colombian myself and yeah the situation there makes the Middle East look simple in comparison...so many groups competing for power in that country that it's difficult to tell at times who the good guys are and who the bad guys are. So yeah, you're probably right you'd offend someone basing it on any real life civil war in Latin America. I know I'd be offended by many possible scenarios that I won't even mention as I don't want to start a flamewar over political ideology. For example many people are interested in making murder mystery mods and things like that. With police units and biker units you could make some fabulous mods with great stories that could really capture the imagination and keep the player absorbed in the game. I don't see anything wrong with that. I mean people are making all kinds of wacked, sci-fi mods with the OFP engine, I don't see anything wrong with a police/biker mod. Of coarse it wouldn't fit in with the current infantry/armor/aircraft units but it could be used with civilian units and other civilian mods quite nicely. That is why I'd like to see some big Harley Davidson motorcycles and some biker units.... and not to go raping women. Their could be rival biker gangs for example and a "Biker War" mod could be made with police units playing on the Resistance side so that they attack either side or both sides on some missions. But more the anything it would just be an awesome feeling to go thundering down the streets of OFP islands in a massive Harley Davidson. Police versions could be made as well (or perhaps Honda Goldwings for them). Anyways, lots of possibilities...and this is coming from a ex-Army guy who loves OFP and it's infantry combat. I have an idea i've been thinking about for awhile. I was thinking of a fictional Dictatorship island. Not quite unlike the game Tropico. One could have various factions like the Army, Rebels, Church,Labor Unions, Intellectuals etc. Main millitary forces would be either the Rebels (typical gerilla style). You would have intervention forces (Contras style) and potential WP invasions. Maybe a bit of RPG style where you play Junta style and control your own forces and units (like secret police, assasination squads etc). You would of course also have the "War on Drugs" with Drug Lords and their "farms". I'm not really a modeller but i can do scripting, help with story and exchange ideas if anyone else thinks this. Interesting potentail addons to this island would be resorts places, golf courses, tourists(with flower shirts and all). Typical unit models: The typical dictator with sunglasses. The typical gerilla leader with a big cigar and beard . The key is to use a fictional country to not end up in endless discussions on real politics like in those other mods. Potential multiplayer variant: It's. Dictator mode basically. As a Dictator you have to rule as many days(or years but this is game time) as possible. The other side (or sides if this is possible to do) as a goal has to do what they can to topple the Dictator from power and likewisse the Dictator has to do what he can to stay there. When the coup/revolution succeeds they change sides and time is calculated. Not quite like Assault mode in UT but similary calculated. In order to have the army loyalty on your side you would have to issue certain bribes and build certain structures (brothels or pubs and similar entertainment) while that action would risc the church factions wrath. Furthermore, deal out money and manage the various factions that could jump off to the other faction. Likewise side 2 has similar means to try and sway the factions to their side. Island would consist of various bases which would give victory points etc. Just some more ideas Bluesman/Barman/marcus Note: Junta was a popular boardgame and imo one of the best beers & pretzels boardgames ever made. Just so everyone knows where the reference Junta points to .<span id='postcolor'> There is already such a MOD being created. The MOD is at: http://www.ofpcol.galeon.com/inicio.htm This MOD is based on the current Colombian civil war which has just about all the things you talked about. The real life conflict is chock full of various guerilla groups, drug lords, farmers, politicians, death squads, CIA spooks, DEA agents, dipolomats, U.S. Special Forces, labor leaders, journalists, DynCorp mercenaries, ect.. ect.... I suggest you contact the leader of that MOD and offer your services. I talked to him before and he's Colombian and has a pretty good understanding of the conflict. Well worth looking into. I hope he gets Oxygen. If he gets things rolling I might make some missions for him. I've already made one Colombian mission using the Hemp addon and the Bell Helicopter addon my Martin but I think I'm going to replace that one with a Huey. I just wish someone could make some DynCorp mercenary addons. I'm sure I could dig up some picks showing their uniforms (although usually I've only seen them wearing DynCorp T-shirts). If you guys like I can always release a v3 of the ah6 with 5.56 mini guns that fire at 4-5 k a min. I don't want to upgrade the v2 version because everyone needs to have the same version of the chopper or else you get issues. But a new ah6v3 would work. Â What do you guys think? I think it would also match the mini's on the choppers in BHD much better. Â Looking at the casings that were falling from the littlebirds in BHD it appeard that they were using the modified m134 to shoot 5.56 Nato rounds. Capt Moore<span id='postcolor'> Adammo...the fire rate is not the problem in my opinion. The problem is that you have a gunner and it's only firing in little bursts. To me that defeats the whole purpose of even having a minigun if you can't hold down the trigger and strafe an area. You have more then enough ammo to strafe all day before running out of ammo. If you're trying to make it realistic PLEASE remove the gunner because in real life Little Birds don't have a seperate gunner. The pilot does the gunning. Also as far as a joystick goes I hate using a joystick myself so that's a no go. Anyways I think you should leave the firerate as it is, and take the gunner out and I think people will be MUCH happier as they'll have a nice fully auto minigun rather then crappy burst fire. Being a gunner is no fun either when you can't aim the guns. I think that if you make a 5.56mm version and still just does that burst fire stuff that people are still going to be bitching about it just like they did about the colors of the Littlebird (remember I had warned you about that also). If I had known about the way the minigun fired earlier I would have bugged the hell out of you to fix it. So I hope that you can take out the gunner when you have time to mess with it. That will make it like the Kiowa Warrior in that the pilot will have full-auto capability. Anyways just take that as constructive advice. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>

It'll just basically be a big tank unless some highly skilled scriptors figure out how to make some kind of targetting system that doesn't rely on external scripts. But unless BIS helps them with that I don't think it will be possible. But I hope I'm wrong. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>

As far as I know all of the ones that talked so much to the media were all out of uniform and civilians when they did so. When you are discharged you can say whatever the hell you want. You are no longer under any obligation or code of honor or whatever. Many Gulf War soldiers (ex-soldiers) likewise complain bitterly to the media about their health and how the DoD doesn't listen to them about Gulf War Syndrome and about how they were forced to take experimental drugs, ect.. ect... That is their right once they are a civilian and that is why as far as I am concerned they have earned their right to complain all they want now that they are out of uniform. When I was in uniform by the way I also was very outspoken about DoD policy concerning the usage of experimental drugs on soldiers. However I was very careful on how I voiced my complaints and did so in a proper manner through my chain of command rather then go to the media or something. I also had a perfect service record for 8 years. In a situation like Somalia, likewise I would have done what I was told to do to accomplish the mission and would have not have gone to the media afterwards while still in uniform. Instead I would raised hell within the chain of command and with the proper officers (not in front of the other troops which would undermine morale) in order to make sure that screws ups didn't happen again. If you know how to work the system, you can get things changed in the military. It may not earn you brownie points for promotion, but it earns you respect. But once that uniform comes off you can say whatever you want about the military, your unit, or your government. What this has to do with the BHD MOD I don't know. I just hope that when it's made it's a good one and not worse then my BHD mission. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>

Most real soldiers I know don't look forward to a "soldier's death" unless they have a death wish. Most soldiers I know have families and loved ones that they want to return to. I think that they have the right to whine all they want after a horrific battle like that. It was their buddies that got killed and many were pissed because they were pulled out and not able to complete the mission. However overall they faught as they were trained and did a very professional job overall. However they were also lucky that the Somalies were such crap gunmen who just sprayed fire and were high on khat most of the time. A more formidable opponent would have most likely given them much higher casualties. At any rate, I think that unless you are a combat veteran who has faced similar circumstances that's it's a low blow to criticize those young men just because they feel a little bitter about being pawns in a political game. Wait let me guess...you're European ain't ya? It was the U.N. who partly failed, not the U.S. alone. However many goals were achieved, mainly that of saving a lot more people from starvation. As for the actual mission show in the movie "Blackhawk Down" while Aidid was not captured, many of his top officers were. In addition considering the odds the U.S. forces faced, combat casualities were relatively light while Somali casualities were extremely heavy. The goal of that mission was not to hold ground but to grab the targeted members of Aidid's clan and pull out. Unfortunately it resulted in signicant casaulties. Regardless most of the mission goals were met and U.S. forces faught extremely professionally in some of the fiercest urban combat since the Vietnam War. The mission was however no doubt a mortal blow for the whole operation. The one video on CNN showing the bodies of U.S. soldiers being dragged through the streets and mutilated was enough to end the entire mission...so goes the power of television and perception management. At the end of the day there were no real winners except for those who were spared from starvation (and the warlords who gained power). At any rate, I would be very disappointed if your MOD is just an attempt by some anti-American Europeans to show how horrible us yankee captalists are invading poor innocent 3rd world countries. I hope that it honors the memories of those who perished on both sides of the conflict. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>
