No reason having a normal scope.<span id='postcolor'> I agree. Â The sites mounted on SAW's and FNMags (M240) are usually not very high power scopes (4x at the most). However any scopes mounted on light or medium machine guns is rare since they are not designed for pin point accuracy but rather fire suppression and just putting alot of rounds into an area where there are enemy forces. Â It's difficult to do that with a scope since the weapon is shaking around so much. Â It's usually alot easier to use a combination of iron sites and tracer rounds. Â But then again I've never fired a SAW with a scope (only a regular SAW) so I don't know for sure. Â But I do agree, that the red dot scope site should be used definitely!!! At any rate, another BIG problem with this addon is that the bloody SAWs are HUGE. Â In real life, the SAW is not a big weapon. Â It's certainly much smaller then the M240 but in this addon it looks much bulkier, kinda like a oversized toy version of the real thing. Â But oh well.... Â overall it's still a good addon. Â The sites are close to the real thing, and while most M249's in use now don't have adjustable fire, (only early models had that) it's still kinda cool and the rate of fire, like the real thing is, is murderous and very effective. Â Sound could use some improving, but oh well. Â Â I just mainly hope that they get the size right in their next version of it...and also quit screwing with those damn silly colors. Â The whole thing is black...yet they keep trying to make the reciever section green or red (in this case it's reddish colored). Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>

[*] The sounds are way off. The MAG has a very nice bass rich sound IRL. The Minimi has less bass and a more sharp sound. [*] The dimensions of the Minimi are a bit off.<span id='postcolor'> Actually originally the M249 did have a variable rate of fire that could be adjusted with the gas regular under the barrel. Â However most current models have a fixed rate. Â But I agree with you about the sound. Â I haven't fired the M240, but I've fired the M60 which is similar (same caliber) and it had a nice heavy sound. Â I also used to be a SAW gunner and I agree, on the real thing the sound is sharp and crisp. Â But oh well, I guess I can just De-pbo it and adjust it if it sucks too bad. I wonder if they simulated how it jams every time it gets a little dirt in the feed mechanism. Â Â Anyhooo...I'm glad to see it in OFP. Â It's a fun weapon to fire! Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>

It would have been better to have them work on their own. I certainly don't want to use all those other packs. I also took out the UCE East weapons pack weapons from the units and replaced them with standard BIS weapons so you don't need to use the UCE weapons pack (which I think didn't added much and was just wasted memory space). I once found the sound of a real one firing, dont remember the site. :/<span id='postcolor'> True, but the minigun operates on the same principles as the gattling gun although obviously much improved from the ones used way back during the Spanish-American War for example. Alot of people still call rotating multi-barrel machine guns/cannon "gattling guns". Miniguns, gattling guns...it's all good. As for the sound, from the ones I've heard they sound fairly close to the one used by the G8 mod team on their aircraft. Perhaps the pitch might be a little higher due to the higher caliber, but not much. I also like how the G8 sound speeds up and slows down like on the real thing. Much better at any rate, then the default BIS cannon sounds or the M2 .50 cal sound. The G8 sound I think would work very nicely. Just adjust the pitch a little and it would probably be spot on. I actually have a friend who's a USAF HH-60 flight engineer and who routinely fires the GAU-2. I'll ask him to see if he knows of any good recordings of one being fired. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD> -

Any chance that you could model a Ayres Turbo-Thrush S2R-T65/400 NEDS (AY-65)? Info and pictures of it are available at: http://worldatwar.net/chandelle/v3/v3n3/articles/ayres.html and at: http://www.geocities.com/opus224/modernization-paf.htm (V1A Vigilante armed variant) These would be great for a OFP "War on Drugs" mod where you play the part as a DynCorp pilot flying crop dusting missions over the left-wing guerilla held coca fields (or marijuana fields using that "hemp" addon someone made). I already used a smoke addon someone made to simulate a cropduster with the cesna plane already in the game, but I never got a chance to finish the mission. I'll have to work on that one some more. DynCorp by the way is a mercenary corporation contracted by the U.S. State Department for various jobs ranging from military advising, to logistical operations, and all the way up to stuff like crop dusting. From your screen shots it still looks fantastic! Hopefully these new blackhawks will become standards for most people (like Adammo's Little Birds) since in real life most of the blackhawks fly in combat zones with the GAU-2. Plus it will make doorgunning MUCH funner and much more effective. I hope you keep the fire-rate nice and high and include plenty of ammo. I had gotten pretty good at using the M2 .50 cal in MP games, but it would be nice to be able to have a decent chance of hitting something while moving at a high rate of speed so the pilot doesn't have to hover or fly slow (and get shot at). Also I hope that you keep the bullets non-explosive as they are in real life (just regular 7.62mm). Please no exploding bullets! For a gun sound you might use the one that the G8 MOD team used on their aircraft (on the AMX fighter and Tornado). That one is the most realistic sounding gattling gun sound that I've heard so far. Well...at least unless they recorded it themselves or bought the sound. But otherwise it shouldn't require any permission as most of the sounds people are using in addons (with the exception of the Satchel sound pack) come from open sources (or in some cases other games). Oh but they may have done some editing to it so it wouldn't hurt to ask their permission or give them credit for the sound or something like that unless you can find another good gattling gun sound that'll work well. Anyways, thanks for the information and I'm VERY VERY much looking forward to trying out your beta addon!!! Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD> -
I just tried the UFO out and I must say that it is spectacular and extremely funny. I love the little driving mirror and the air freshner hanging there. The controls are very cool also although I really wish it had some kind of cool death ray. However the most spectacular thing comes when you put AI pilots into them and have them fly to a waypoint set to "safe". Then set the time of day to nightime. The lights are SPECTACULAR!!!!!!! Especially the spot light!!! I don't know how they modified the color of the light but it has this really spooky bluish tint to it that makes you feel like you're in the X-Files when you're down below. I normally don't make Sci-Fi missions for OFP, but I think I'll make an exception with this one. Another good thing about the addon is that it's easy on the memory space as it's nice and small. However.... I gotta note the bugs... Unfortunately the AI don't know how to land with it and either nose dive into the ground (spectacular to watch) or they just fly in circles. I hope that part is fixed. There are ways around that using flyinheight scripts followed by an ejection script or something, but they don't always work well. It would be nice if that bug is fixed. At any rate, this addon is perfect for a very funny X-Files type mission. Now all we need is a "grey" addon.... you know those big-headed grey aliens with the big black eyes and no nose. They are more of a psychological warfare weapon. A B-52 strike is generally more effective. AC-130's however are widely used by the U.S. in unconventional and conventional warfare. In almost every conflict the U.S. has had during and since the Vietnam War, the AC-130 has seen combat. Plus if by some miracle someone got the AI pilots to use the weapons properly it would be extremely cool to see that big boy spitting out lead down onto enemy targets. I think a lot of people would dearly like to see that addon. Plus like someone else said, it would not be an "uber weapon" due to the fact that it will be much harder to target the weapons then a door gun on a helicopter for example. It'll actually take quite a bit of skill... if it works that is. To just test the basic concept out, no modelling needs to be done. Just a invisible machine gun or cannon type weapon needs to be added in Oxygen and then the point of aim needs to be to the side so that the aiming point in the cockpit shows when you hit #4 to look out the side window. For anyone who knows how to use Oxygen, it shouldn't take more then a few minutes to set this up to test it. That way if it works, the project could continue and modelling could start on it. However if the test doesn't work, then the idea can be scrapped (unless BIS releases some patches to fix the game's limitations regarding addons). AC-130<span id='postcolor'> It is not easy to do. It can be made however, the weapons will not move on it. You can not just stick a door gun type control mechanism for the weapons on the C130 because it is not a "helicopter" class. It is a "plane" class which doesn't have the option for a door gunner. However... cannons can be put on planes and the cannon can be made to point towards the side instead of the front. That way the aiming dot could be seen from your side window. However it would require banking the plane to aim the weapons. I'm not sure if the AI could use it, but anyone with oxygen (and who knows how to use Oxygen) should be able to make a rough test on the regular C130 to see how well this method works and whether the AI use the weapons or not. Basically attacking a target with it would be like doing a drive by shooting. The different weapon systems could be simulated with different ammo types. The hardest part would be modelling the external weapons and even harder probably, modelling the interior to look more or less realistic.
