    Russian and chechen war.

Is there any other places to get them?<span id='postcolor'> No mods, but I did make a big mission called "Chechnya in the Winter" which puts, you the player, as a Spetsnaz commando taking part in a large airborne operation in a joint attack with regular infantry forces. The objective is to take a hill top fortification held by Chechnyan rebels. It has my best movie intro with custom sounds and tons of scripting (which includes showing troops riding on the back of T80 tanks on the intro). However the mission requires the Winter Kolgujev map which I don't think works in 1.75. But if you want to try it on the older 1.46 version, I think you'll really like the mission as it's non-stop heart pounding combat to take the hill and there are lots of other units taking part in the assault (it's a huge battle). The mission can be downloaded at my website which is accessed by clicking on my signature. It's worth downloading just to watch the intro movie which I think most people enjoy quite a bit. I have two addons, the Irish Rangers, and the WWII Americans, and I always have this one black soldier, and I don't know how to get rid of him. Any idea how? It's just not accurate.<span id='postcolor'> Easy. Â On that unit in his init line type something like: this setface "face14"; Just don't use "face33" or "face49" cuz those two are black faces. Â Â But yeah, no worries, it's not racist. Â I have the same problem on WWII missions using WWII addons. Â I have a Omaha Beach Normandy invasion mission where I had to remove the black soldiers because historically at that time black soldiers were not integrated fully into the Army and certainly not with the Army Rangers, although the 761st tank battalion did land on Normandy but as an all-black unit. However...hmm...that gives me an idea. Â It might be cool to make a WWII OFP mission based on the all-black units that actually exhisted in WWII. Â I should do a mission based on the exploits of the 761st Tank battallion now that we have Sherman and Stewart tanks in OFP. Â For more info on the 761st go to: http://www.dogonvillage.com/Tidbits....lge.htm It's a very interesting read. It might be fun to do a mission based on the elite Japanese-American commando units of the 100th battalion and the 442nd Regimental Combat Team. Â These units earned the most medals of any unit in WWII of comparable size including 21 medal of honor awards. The 442nd, for its size and time in combat (less than two years), is the most decorated unit in U.S. military history according to this official DoD site: http://www.defenselink.mil/news/May2000/n05252000_20005251.html Anyhoo...those ideas might be fun to do for any WWII buffs looking for a unique type of mission or campaign. That might be a OFP game engine limitation, but even if it is and you can only have one point of smoke, I still think that it will look VERY cool. Now the million dollar question: Will the AI use it? Perhaps get the "hemp" addon and make a field...then stick some Resistance fighters in the field with them set to "Friendly to East". Then see if the pilot attacks the soldiers with smoke. That might look very cool for cut-scene movies. Likewise perhaps a trigger could be made to cause the AI pilot to fire the smoke over regular fields to simulate a civilian crop duster spraying his crops....and then showing a HIND blasting him. Are they just hoarding these secrets until they've made a ton of addons first so that other MOD groups don't beat them at it? Or do they just want to keep these secrets for themselves and just enjoy showing off? Please don't say that they're not doing this because they'll get in trouble with BIS because people have already heavily modified parts of the game that BIS has made. He usually checks this forum often so he should get your message. You could also download his Lynx addon, De-PBO it and mess around with the smoke generator on it to see if you can figure out how to put something like it on your crop duster. In the readme for his addon he gives some clues for how to use it on other vehicles. He wrote this: "To use the vehicle, accelerate and keep the fire button down to release smoke clouds. Note that the smoke gets drifted by wind, so favourable wind can make the smoke not to get spread out as expected. Added classnames: KEGM113Lynx - The Armored M113 with the SGS KEGSmokeGenerator - The smoke generator "dummy" weapon !note! You _cannot_ add the smoke generator to other vehicles by just adding the KEGSmokeGenerator weapon to it because the weapon is just a dummy weapon that fires nothing, the smoke is generated by the vehicle's gun barrel smoke." So in other words it sounds like Keg is saying that in order to use the smoke generator the vehicle has to have a gun on it which actually generates the smoke. I hope that helps some. Sorry. Well, you could just the "gimble throwers" addon, de-pbo it, look at the cpp.config file, get rid of their rocks and stuff that they throw, and exchange them for weapons. Then change their side to "East". Finally compile it back into a .pbo file and walla! You got armed civys! Of coarse this would overwrite the exhisting Gimble addon unless you it's possible to rename the .pbo file without renaming all the texture paths and crap. But since the textures are not new, this might be possible. The same could be done with Kegetys's Smith & Wesson addon which uses civilians although he probably wouldn't want you doing that to his addon unless the .pbo file was renamed and he was given full credit. At any rate, I'm sure any of the addon makers here could very easily make for you a nice little civy addon that will put them on the "EAST" side (so they fight the police) and armed with various pistols and other weapons. It shouldn't be that difficult to do. There has been talk before about doing a "gangster" mod but I'm not sure about whatever came of that. But until then, just use the method I described in the previous post and you'll get the same results. It's a little more work but it has the one BIG advantage of not requiring people to download extra addons to play your missions. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>

    Viewing animations

To those of you who are experts on this matter, if there is a way found for new animations to be transfered back into OFP, is there any chance that ANIMAL animations might be possible or would that be impossible due to it requiring a completely new unit class? Â For example could it just be a modified soldier class? Â It would be so incredible if a way could be found to create deer, sheep, horses, camels, cows, dogs, cats, ect... Imagine hunting deer in the forests of Malden with the Kozlice shotgun/rifle? Â Â Perhaps horses could be a "vehicle" class so that a player could ride them into combat like the SF and General Dostum's Northern Alliance troops in Afghanistan. Â Â Or perhaps on a grander scale, maybe a American Civil War or Nepoleanonic War Mods could be created! Â That's probably far fetched, as there is no hand to hand combat engine in OFP (Well actually there is but its extremely basic and no one has explored it). Â But maybe BIS might assist in such a MOD. I imagine however that it would take a tremendous amount of work as BIS has the advantage of using a state of the art animation studio that modeled actual human movements. Â Still it might be interesting to see how this develops. Â Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>

In a wartime situation air forces do not fight in a vacuum, pilots do not engage each other in chivalrous single combat. When you are talking about a war you are talking about a military as a whole, the weapons just being the pointy tip of a spear with a very, very big shaft. Which was the better fighter, P-51 or ME-262? Doesn't matter, the US had more fighters and pilots and the luxury to train them up right before going into combat. Which is the better tank, Sherman or Tiger? In this case we know the Sherman was inferior to just about anything the Germans had. Doesn't matter, we had a lot more than the Germans and could grind them down in attrition warfare. The F-86 was the inferior of the MiG-15 and look who had the higher kill ratios. Even an inferior weapon can be used effectively with superior training and tactics. the Brewster Buffalo was a total joke in the Pacific and the US forces got rid of it as soon as they possibly could. Finland happily took the planes and put a major hurting on the Russians with them.<span id='postcolor'> That's a very good point. Plus there are supporting forces that make a huge difference. For example the electronic warfare aircraft and wild weasel aircraft make a HUGE difference in disabling both ground and air AA defenses as well as ground based radars that help to direct aircraft and missles towards their targets. Plus like you said...numbers matter. The Iraqi airforce faired poorly partly because they had poor training but also because they were badly out numbered. That said, they had state of the art Mig-29's and while American pilots were impressed by their turning capability of the Mig-29, they were not impressed with the tactics used by the Iraq pilots (including one poor bastard who just flew into the ground) and they had no trouble shooting them down. An old Mig-21 could kill the most modern fighter aircraft if it has some decent IR guided missiles (and cannon) and if the modern fighters are outnumbered by the Mig-21's. While they are maneuvering in to take out one Mig-21, another one can come in from a different angle and nail him. The advantage of most modern fighters, as someone else stated, is in the state of the art radar, targeting, and weapons system not to mention their internal ECM systems and countermeasures. This can allow for distant kills with no need to get into a dogfight. Aircraft like the Mig-25 and the more capable Mig-31 Foxhound were designed with this purpose. There was indeed a report of a F-18 getting shot down by a Mig-31. Actually I read that in an article in Reader's Digest. I don't know how accurate it was but the info they put forth made it seem very plausible that indeed that's what shot him down. I think the Mig-31's radar signature had been detected and that it had been tracked on radar in the area. Something like that although I can't remember for sure the circumstances. At any rate, the Mig-31 Foxhound has still one of the most powerful radars ever mounted on a jet fighter as it's capable of "burning" through many types of ECM jamming and usually carries some fairly high quality AA missles. It also has the speed to outrun most Western fighter aircraft. Overall it's quite a beautiful and capable fighter aircraft that is still in production. If it wasn't so fast, I'd love to see it in OFP...actually....the newest version also has ground attack capability, so maybe it would be a cool idea to have this fighter in OFP. More info on it can be found at: http://www.fas.org/nuke/guide/russia/airdef/mig-31.htm Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>

If you do a little research you'll find that you can add weapons to them using a simple script in the "initialization" box on the unit in the map editor. However the civys only have 3 ammmo slots.  So if you want to give them an AK47 type this script: this addmagazine "AK47"; this addweapon "AK47"; this addmagazine "AK47"; this addmagazine "AK47"; this addmagazine "AK47"; That'll give the civy a loaded AK47 with 3 magazines of ammo. Also if you want to change them to "EAST" simply save your mission then go and find it under your User/missions/mission name folder. Then open the mission.sqm file with Wordpad. Find the Civilian units there and change them to "EAST". Now save that in wordpad. Then load the mission again and they will be on the East side. HOWEVER if you click on them again in the map editor under "units" they will revert back to civilian status (or maybe it was that they change back to a Russian soldier) so keep that in mind. Notice also how the Kevlar helmet is actually a realistic size and shape now. However it looks like they used Capt. Moore's (aka-Adammo) FBI unit addon as a template. In addition the latest version has the SAME files (same date and file size) as the first ones so was anything even changed other then just re-zipping them? Also why are their two files that are exact identical files??? My guess is that you stuck the 1.46 version into the folder that's supposed to have the 1.75 version. I don't know anything about map making so unfortunately I can't help trouble shoot more then that, but I recommend that you get with someone with a lot of experience with desert maps and see if they can help you figure out what's going on. Maybe even get with the guy who made the "Skye" island addon to see if he can tell you how to add Resistance apartment buildings in the Somalia map to simulate the Olympic hotel. OH...by the way...just to double check, this map is for OFP: Resistance correct??? And no special modifications need to be done to it to get it to work?
