Razani, N. Waziristan Map
miles teg replied to Nicholas Bell's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Well I had a similar problem on the Afghan Village map on that highway to the East. The AI drivers kept wanting to go onto the wrong lane and this really screwed up the cutscene movie I was making. So I made a wall for the first 100 meters made up of the BIS barbwire fence object. This seemed to actually do the job and the AI (two vehicles) went straight without switching lanes. They just needed to get going for awhile. The downside to the invisible wall idea is that you can't accidentally drive off the cliff while you're driving as a player. So that would make it less exciting when you're driving at high speed along those twisting roads (which is very challenging). However I should say that on the BIS maps I rarely have to put more then 3 waypoints for vehicles. They normally travel just fine on the roads and never take shortcuts through open fields if they are wheeled vehicles or if they are tracked vehicles on "safe" or "careless" behavior. So it might be possible that you could be doing something wrong. I would talk to some of the other map making gurus to see what they suggest. At any rate, as you suggested... tons of waypoints should fix things most of the time at least on single vehicles. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD> -

I'm sure the motor-pool grease monkeys will rig up some extra armor panels as needed at least against small arms. Not much to do about RPG's other then use a bit of slat armor which doesn't always do the job. They're lucky that they have the option of just using this vehicle in open desert areas. Just imagine if they were driving this through a warzone with lots of woods and buildings. Then they'd be in serious trouble. Something like the South African Ratel wheeled IFV would have probably been a bit more versatile, is well-armed (choice of 20mm or 90mm turrets) is extremely rugged, is combat proven, and has good anti-mine protection. But oh well. The grunts gotta use what they're given. At least in the game, it does its job as long as (like in real life) you don't get too terribly close to the enemy and you keep moving if you get fired upon. Still I wish it had some gunshields or something to protect the gunner at least as he's usually the first to get taken out. I find that it's best used as a vehicle for a forward observer where you call in harriers to drop LGB's on targets and then move to another location. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD> -

One thing I just wanted to point out in case people didn't notice...  try firing the B-10 recoilless rifle and pay attention to the rear of the launcher.  If you notice, the rocket inside disappears after firing.  I also edited the fired sound on it to make a  deep and satisfying  cannon sound.  If I remember correctly I think I grabbed that sound originally from a Taliban video where they were firing the B-10. Also don't forget that you can simulate 80's Afghan War stuff if you use some 80's Russian addons and use the Mujahadin under the Independent side in the mission editor.  Hopefully someone will come out with some nice 80's Soviets soon in their desert fatigues.  Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD> -

In that movie the terrain is alot more desert-like which some parts of Southern Afghanistan are. This map however is Waziristan so its not Afghanistan and thus has a bit more vegitation. Still it is excellent for simualting parts of Afghanistan as well. As for making a "The Beast" mission, there was a T-55 addon released but we have no Russian infantry addons that simulate the Afghan War era Russian soldiers. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD> -

There are blood textures on the Taliban...just not yet on the CIA guys and the Afghan Army guys as they use different textures. In the next update hopefully they will all have blood textures. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD> -

miles teg replied to Nicholas Bell's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Nicholas, what I noticed is that the AI drive off the road in areas where the different levels of roads are close together on the mountains....basically the AI tries to take a shortcut and drives off the cliff to get to the road below it. Â The short distance between the roads is what I think is causing this behavior. Â I don't think there's any way of solving that problem short of putting barriers along the mountain roads (maybe invisible objects?). Â The other solution, is probably, as you said, for the mission maker to just use plenty of waypoints along the route that they want the AI drivers to take. Â For single vehicles its not to bad. Â However its a nightmare for formations of vehicles because at every waypoint they sometimes decide to do a little circle and get all mixed up. Â Oh... by the way, I also just wanted to note that I just released update of my Taliban pack. Â Your map is awesome for missions with them! In your next update of this map I would recommend using that HESCO object pack that was released for the community to finish up and use. That along with some sandbag bunkers, machine gun nests, and other such objects would be very nice to have to make Taliban fighting positions and forward operation bases. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD> -

Sorry for the delays...but FINALLY I got the new Taliban update (version 1.4) released. Â FIRST PAGE OF THREAD UPDATED This pack includes: 1. Taliban soldiers, Taliban vehicles, & Taliban static weapons. 2. 80's Mujahadin soldiers (under independent) 80's Mujahadin vehicles, & 80's Mujahadin static weapons. 3. Afghan National Army soldiers, and an Afghan National Army pickup with DShK. 4. Â American Covert Operations units 5. Custom Weapons Pack (Ak's, Lee-Enfield rifle, SPG-9, B-10) *** Note- ONLY IF YOU HAVE THE EXTENDED EVENT HANDLER PBO INSTALLED, the RPG, B-10, and SA-7 guys will yell stuff in Arabic when they fire their RPG or SA-7 weapons. Â This will eventually be changed to the Pashtun language if I can find some good recordings (aside from the ever-popular "ALLAH'U AKBAR!" cry). **** EDIT (There now a couple of Pashto yells in the sounds). Â *** To Install: remove "Arabic_Sounds.pbo" from your addons (or mod/addons) folder if you had the first version (1.2) installed. Â Arabic_addons.pbo is no longer needed and it will cause conflicts. Known bugs: No blood textures. AK47/M203 has issues with ACE. Â Grenades fire, but stick in ground and don't fully explode (much as the ACE 40mm M203 grenades behave at short range simulating not reaching its minimum arming range). Â Just use the M4/M203 guy in place of that one if you want M203 grenades. Â Required Addons: loboweawponstaliban.pbo (included) Extended Event Handlers (not included but most people have it and the addons still work without...just no yells when they fire RPG's). ***UPDATED Version 1.4 Download Link (Mirrors apprciated): http://www.idfsquad.com/downloads/milesteg/LoBo_TalibanVer1_4.7z Update log: Version 1.4 New models/textures on Taliban by Yaciek. Added Afghan National Army soldiers Added Al-Qaeda Lashkar Al-Zil (Shadow Army) Brigade 055 soldiers. Added pickup trucks with custom cargo proxies. Added ANA pickup Added Taliban pickup with Katushya rockets. Added AK47 with GP-25 Added B-10 portable recoiless-rifle. Added SPG-9 static weapon. Update log: Version 1.3 1. Made addons ACE compatible. 2. Added American covert operations units (Afghanistan). 3. Added new AK-47 weapons pack which also includes an RPK-47 and a Lee-Enfield rifle. Â That way no dependency on 3rd party addons. 4. Added 80's era Mujahadin on Resistance side (equipping them with AK74's as well). 5. Added Vehicles and static weapons for Taliban and Mujahadin. Al-Qaeda Lashakar Al-Zil (Shadow Army) Brigade 055 on the move. Afghan National Army soldiers on patrol near the border with Pakistan. American Covert Operations units: Covert Operations Intel units moving through no-man's land along a dry river bed. Meet the Taliban! Thank you for using our addons. Â Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD> Team Leader of the Lost Brothers Mod -
I agree... default BIS weapons would I think be better until one custom weapons pack can be created with the specific weapons used by the SAS. That is much better then using a whole bunch of massive weapons packs. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>

AWESOME VIDEO FLOOSY!!! lol! I love your yellow dude. Oh...and excellent map also. Looks small, but its fairly detailed, with very nice beaches with gentle slopes. So it would make for some good amphibious assaults and probably great for MP matches. Overall it looks like Mucho Fun! Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>

If you like those, the new ones are going to be much better. I think you'll also like the Al-Qaeda Shadow Army Brigade 055 guys. Scary bunch. Stuff I did today: 1. Removed boots from all Shadow Army soldiers and most Taliban (except guys in cold weather jackets) and replaced them with running shoes. Also I removed boots from most civilians and gave them regular leather shoes except for the guy with the heavy cold weather jacket. 2. Removed NVG mount on olive green PASGT helmet. 3. Removed NVG's from all but two of the ANA guys (leader and one other guy). 4. Added and tested AK47 with GP25 and ANA soldier equipped with the weapon. 5. Fixed window bug on Katusha launching pickup truck where you couldn't see through the window. 6. Added DShK HMG to ANA static weapons. 7. Tested all weapons at night to check for muzzle flash bugs. Stayed up until 1:30am fixing all this. Tomorrow morning I'll pack it all up. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD> -

Excellent info. Â I've seen a body armor model like that somewhere on an ArmA addon, but I can't put my finger on which addon it was.... Â I'll have to look at a bunch of old addons. Â If I find it, I'll ask the creator if I can use and modify their vest or infantry model. Â However I might know someone who can make one from scratch (which would be super nice). I might even try maybe converting what we have into it with a bit of retexturing especially if I get some nice clear pictures of the front and back sections. I actually have like 4 different colored vests on the ANA guys currently. Â Most have the tan vest but one has a olive green vest, another a black vest, and another a dark brown vest as they often seem to be wearing different body armor carriers or vests. Â But it's just temporary until we can get more realistic looking vests. Â I would like to make the commando units in the next update as well as add a T-55 or T-62 tank for a little extra firepower. Do the commandos wear different uniforms also? By the way on your avatar pic, are you standing on a T-55? lol! Â Very nice. Â I always wanted to drive a real one. Â Does the ANA ever even take those things out of Kabul? Â Some forward bases I'm sure could sorely use a bit of armor. Â Slap a bit of slat armor on them and I'm sure they could take quite a bit of punishment from RPG-7's. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD> -
That's fine and all, but I'm asking if these guys are representative of current SAS kit and uniforms not that of a decade ago. Â From what I've seen of current British forces in Afghanistan, they all are dressed in normal desert DPM uniforms with a few special units using MICH helmets along with Mk6 helmets. Not sure about body armor. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>
-
They look very good. Â However one question. Â Why are almost all of the recent British infantry addons done with mixed uniforms on the desert guys (mixed with woodland tops)? Â Â I know that this happened with both the US and UK military at the beginning of the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts... Â However these days do many units still have mixed gear like that? Â That would seem very strange and unprofessional to me. Â I understand the reason for it at the beginning of a conflict (supplies are not always in place in adequate amounts when a unit is deployed on short notice with minimal logistics support). Â Anyways... its just something that drives me nuts and is why I've only downloaded ONE British addon pack that had proper desert uniforms that weren' mixed. Â Oh the other thing.... are they wearing American DCU's??? Â Is that common for SAS to wear DCU's?? Aside from that, the models look excellent. Â I'm not familiar with the body armor so I can't comment on whether its accurate or not, but it looks good as does the rest of the gear. Â However I'm hesistant to use the addon unless indeed this is typical of the uniforms and equipment of the SAS today. I'm not saying its not... I just have never seen pictures of SAS outfitted like that. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>

Agreed! Incredible map! It actually still looks extremely nice even without Queen's Gambit and there is still plenty of ground clutter, so please people don't argue about that. I also would LOVE to see some good Soviet Afghan War era troops. There was a great pack made in OFP where they had those tan uniforms and "cowboy" hats on some of them. Sadly nothing yet has been made for ArmA. So my Mujahadin have nobody to fight right now. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD> -

And I failed to mention that the Taliban pbo is a great piece of work! I like it due to the fact the Taliban look better than what is in VBS2. my only complaint is they need to lose the boots. The Talibs use running shoes/sneakers instead of boots. And no sandals either. Overall I like this mod very much and look forward to the further editions. Cheers Robert the n00b Thanks for all the info. Â For now, you'll probably be a bit disappointed with the Taliban/ANA as I'm going to try and get them released today or tomorrow. However your info will definitely be used for future updates to make them more realistic. Â We don't have a modeller to make an exact replica of the body armor, although if you post pictures of the ANA guys, perhaps someone willl step forward to help make accurate body armor. Â If Johnny lets me, maybe I can borrow his SF body armor and modify it a bit? Â At any rate, because of our limited team size, these are just approximations. Â Some of the Taliban will have running shoes, others boots. Â It's really more of a modelling issue that I need to work on. Â I just don't want to do it now as it'll put the release date behind another week or two. Â From your info ALOT of new stuff would need to be updated so I'd rather make that more as one big update. Â I also gave the ANA guys the B-10 as I've seen videos of them firing it and the SPG-9. Â Are those part of their TOE? Can the shoulder launched B-10 substitute for RPG's? Seems like a nice weapon overall...probably quite a bit more accurate then a RPG just a lot heavier. Â However for a mounted patrol element, it would seem like something they could carry in their vehicle and dismount with it rather quickly. Â I've had to do that as part of crew-served weapons teams (M2 and Mk19) moving quickly with heavy equipment to set up firing positions. Â Not fun, but do-able. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD> -

Right now everything is ready except for the ANA pickup which I'm waiting for MLOD's on so I can create a proper signed verson. But until then, here are a couple more pics of the ANA troops and the SPG-9 (and a couple of the updated Taliban). Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD> -

Affirmative. Namman2 is debugging the Mk3 tanks right now. They are almost ready. Afterwards we will concentrate on finalizing the aircraft we have. I'm also waiting for the last version of the IDF to be uploaded by Jewish Freak which we will beta-test. Once all that is done, we will be ready for a release. Until then, expect a Taliban update pack release very soon. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD> -
Yeah this belongs in the "ArmA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION" section of the forum. It's a fine idea, but really worthless unless you someone has the massive scripting skills to do such a thing assuming its even possible. If it is, then indeed it would be super cool. But honestly I don't think that could be implemented without access to the game engine. However perhaps more realistic would be to use the existing movement/position command system with added commands. But you'd need to talk to someone like Tony Ranger. The AI in ArmA have a tendency to go "RAMBO" and run off rather then stay in one position ducking behind cover. So I wouldn't have super high expectations of turning ArmA into Ghost Recon. Sorry to be such a killjoy. Hopefully someone can prove me wrong. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>

I was just wondering as I'd love to use these beautiful bombs on my mod's Syrian and Egyptian Migs and Sukhoi's. As far as ideas, cluster munitions would be good but I know those require alot of scripting. The same goes for cluster munitions that lay mindfields. However if you can make some fuel air bombs that make those nice mini-mushroom clouds, that would be super awesome! Your bombs certainly deserve some nice custom explosions and sound FX. I didn't see it posted and apologize if I missed it, but is this project for the whole community or just for one Mod team? Whatever the case, these bombs and missiles look incredible! Good work! Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>

Yeah, the only new vehicles will be the 3 pickups in the earlier pictures (unarmed but they can carry a squad of Taliban), the MRLS pickup, and a Afgan National Army pickup mounted with a machine gun. So vehicles will include: URAL truck Motorcycle UAZ with MG 3 cargo pickup trucks MLRS pickup ANA Pickup w/MG Static weapons: D-30 DShK and maybe... an SPG-9 All that is left right now is for me to edit the config of the ANA pickup and do texture-repathing and config repathing on the MLRS as right now its configured for our Hezbollah guys. I just have to make sure it won't conflict with the original version so I have to change class names and all that. By changing the name of the .pbo it means I have to change the texture paths as well which kinda sucks. But it shouldn't take too long. I hope to have it done by Sunday. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD> -

Thanks for the info Walker. I know you're really knowledgable about weapon systems. I agree with you that it was probably a blockage because when I see the first video, the recoil doesn't seem that bad at all. The loader however seems to be VERY careful about how he loads it. If I was firing, I'd aim...then move my head sideways before pressing the trigger. If they were smart they'd develop a bipod for it or something to keep the aim steady. That way the gunner can move his face out of the way of the sight in case the weapon flipped back. Removing the trigger guard also would be smart to prevent fingers from getting ripped off or snapped in two. But anyways... I'm just happy to have the B10 working now more or less. I just have to fix this stupid sight picture bug. Tomorrow, I'll compare it with other configs and models of RPG's made by other people to try and figure out what I'm doing different. Hopefully I'll figure it out. I think I'll put a custom sound on it as well as it doesn't quite sound like an RPG, but more like a cannon shooting. Raafatah64, yes I will give this weapon also to our Hezbollah guys as well once I get it fully working. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>
