A.C.E. Advanced Combat Environment Public Release!
miles teg replied to sickboy's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Negative. They would vary tremendously. As stated earlier, velocity has a huge amount to do with the dammage that a bullet does. So the type rifle/MG round definitely has quite a bit to do with velocity and thus wounding characteristics at 1,000 meters. So basically if you're talking about a .50 cal BMG round, then yeah your arguement holds true. However if we're talking 5.56mm NATO or 7.63x39mm (AK47/SKS), then you'd be very lucky to cause a lethal injury at 1,000 meters. There's a reason why hunters generally don't try for long range kills. 1. Because your accuracy is much less and thus increased chance of wounded game. 2. At extreme ranges, there's a big chance that the bullet will literally "bounce" off tough skinned game or fail to penetrate through thick hide and muscle. At any rate, you'd have to get extraordinarily lucky to hit ANYTHING with a 5.56mm NATO or 7.62x39mm rifle at 1,000 meters due to the massive amount of elevation aiming your rifle to adjust for bullet drop. It will be seperate although some of the historic stuff overlaps with the modern stuff. For example some of the tanks like the T-55 are still used. Also the modern Egyptian infantry units will also have the historic Egyptian infantry units with them in the same .pbo file. I might just release everything together as really very little needs to be fixed up on the historic stuff. I'm just worried about the file size. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD. -

Oooh good news....PMC just ported the AGS buildings into ArmA!!! WHOO HOO!!! http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=78823 So yeah man, if you want to take a crack at the Sinai map, it just got alot easier. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD> -

Well its a difficult project... importing the Lost Brothers Sinai map but using the objects from the Afghani map to substitute for the old objects in OFP... Although we did get permission to use the AGS buildings, but we never got around to converting those. Having satellite terrain textures on it would be even better, but not necessary. There are probably alot of BIS objects (like umbrellas and stuff on the beach towns in Sahrani) that could be used for the beach areas of Sharm al-Sheik and the one other tourist town on the Sinai. Eilat would be the most difficult area to model as its a large city. There are also some bridges on the map. The one going over to the Egyptian mainland from the Sinai (across the Suez canal) could be removed perhaps. Another option is for a Sinai map to be made from scratch. It should just have a portion of Israel, the Sinai area, and the Suez canal area much like the original. It obviously would not be to actual scale... but still if you see how we did it in OFP, you'll see that we made a decent approximation. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD> -

Sadly no. We were never able to find a map maker...well we did once, but he was just beginning and now that he's better at it, he's doing his own stuff. Finding a good map maker for a mod is VERY hard sadly. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD> -

That helps a little, but honestly I suck horribly at config work and right now I just want to get everything out the door. If we have time we'll see about getting it to work and I might mess around with the Mando torpedoes. If Jewish Freak gets the IDF infantry and weapons pack updated soon, I'll see if he can figure it out as he's better at configs. Namman2 is great at config work but he's really busy with getting all the armor working and will be busy helping me get the aircraft fully de-bugged (a big project). Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD> -
Big OFP fan now considering buying ArmA...
miles teg replied to Kyle_K_ski's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Have you tried the ArmA II demo on your current computer? My bro had an older computer that struggled playing ArmA and was pleasantly surprised to find that the demo ran smootlhy on his old computer. But if you have and it was too slow, then yeah I recommend the ACE mod as well, although you REALLY appreciate the ACE mod playing multiplayer where certain features of realism become very much appreciated. But its great for single player games as well. ACE is the most popular mod right now but there are dozens of others (an even more individual addons) out there to have fun with. Its coming its coming... I just worked on the fixing up the Syrian units today and have the Egyptian Gazelle gunships and the Seaking and Commando II helicopters all working (aside from the torpedo on the Seaking which we may not be able to get working until later in ArmA II). We're just finishing up the updates on our Magach tanks, Merkava tanks, and the IDF infantry and weapons updates should be done soon. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD> -
With a little work they could be turned into EOD guys. Keep in mind that its vert hard to make a custom body for ArmA. Only a handful of addon players have done it sucessfully. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>

Negative. We never released the historic mod in OFP. However the M109 and other arty pieces are all part of Addon Pack #3. You can find all of our OFP addons here: http://www.thelostbrothers.com/addons.php Our OFP mod is HUUUUUGE!!!! Sadly few people played it. But it is very complete with a massive range of vehicles and units. Our artillery (including the M109 and MRLS) also workes with the first version (1.0) of the CoC UA (united artillery) system. I think we hav one that was converted along with our old OFP arty, but the only bad thing is that it would only work as a very large tank and not as a working artillery piece. So basically it would just be an assault-gun. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD> -
Iraq Republican Guard Units by Maza94 ver 0.5
miles teg replied to maza94's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Yeah Iraq used a huge variety of uniforms over the years including tan uniforms. I would consult with RTR_Commander and work with him as he did ALOT of research on Iraqi uniforms and equipment for the IM:UC mod. I would suggest you guys working together. At any rate, I hope you can update the Fedayeen so that they have the all-black uniforms and black berets (and proper Russian style helmets instead of PASGT helmets). Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD> -
AI Dispersion Increased for more Immersion
miles teg replied to Thunderbird's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Has anyone checked to see if these values also effect the gunners on armored vehicles? That's kinda important also. I think this is an interesting experiment although personally I prefer the weopons themselves to be modified in terms of dispersion and recoil characteristics. I think alot of people forget the old BAS JAM3 pack for OFP. That was a very successful standardization that I hope ACE (or any similar mod) follows. That way a player, for example, would NOT be as accurate firing an AK-47 as say, an M16A2 (which is vastly more accurate in the hands of a competent shooter). That way each individual weapon can be carefully tailored to reflect real world input from people who have experience with these various weapon systems. With that said, I'm sure it won't hurt to tone down the AI accuracy a little bit. Ideally if AI accuracy adjustments can be narrowed to specific classes, that would even be better. So I hope you can work out some new scripting voodoo T-bird. Keep up the good work! Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD> -
PMC Apache v1.1 for ArmA 2 has been released!
miles teg replied to Snake Man's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Any plans on adding a MapFacts style greyscale FLIR to it? That is the ONE thing that made me use the MAPFACTS AH-64 in the first ArmA as it looked vastly more realistic in ArmA movies and screenshots. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD> -
Ya know...I just realized something...with a bit of work, you could easily transform your HAZMAT units into EOD bomb disposal units as the hood/visor section looks very much the same. You would just need to puff up the arms and legs and modify the body armor. The hardest part would be getting the appropriate body armor with the neck protection parts like on a PASGT vest. It would be alot of work, but I think well worth it as such units could be used in a wide range of both police and military missions where the AI is doing the bomb disposal (and things go horribly wrong...lol) or where the player must defuse a bomb. At any rate, that's just a suggestion. If you are not interested or don't have time, I'd be interested in creating such a unit with your MLOD as my mod (The Lost Brothers Mod) has PASGT vests that I could modify (as well as units with puffy sleeves and legs simulating IDF sniper suits). Anyways with that said, excellent work. I look forward to any continuing development of this addon. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>

You should PM them such requests. Also, I assume that you know about the OFrP mod right? If not its a French mod that's already been released.

Centurion tank yes in the historic pack. It's almost finished. One small correction about the T-62, just parts of it are by Vilas, the rest is based on the T-55 by Rygugu who was kind enough to allow our mod to use his awesome T-55 addon for our Egyptian and Syrian forces. The BTR-60 though is based fully on Vilas's model thanks to his support. However it will also be in the historic pack. Our primary goal is to get out a addon pack #4 followed soon after by the historic pack. After playing the ArmA II demo, I think some people may still prefer ArmA. I personally like ArmA II but really its almost like a different game with ArmA being a bit less arcade like and somethings a little better. So unless alot of things are changed in ArmA II I think alot of people will reinstall ArmA on their harddrives. That is one reason why we will finish these packs for ArmA. The other reason is that by the time we start porting full mods to ARmA II, by then most of the bugs will be sorted out and hopefully ACE will have enough info to provide other mods so that our mod will be from the start, ACE compatible. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD> -
Nah, it only works for Persian or Arab soldiers which is why you don't see pics of it flying high in the air... however its perfect for my Persian SF when I'm done with them. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>

You could also simply play missions that aren't domination or warfare. I've been having an incredible MP experience playing the Tactical Gamer Servers (mainly server #2). There is always an admin on, platoon leaders and squad leaders are selected before the start of a mission, and anyone who doesn't follow orders from leaders are usually kicked. Also voice comm rules are enforced with leaders using side channel and everyone else usually using direct chat unless its just a small number of players. I've had some truly epic MP games on there where we used proper military tactics. Once I started playing there, I quite playing domination/warfare servers as I was tired of idiots like the ones you mentioned. If they try such crap on the CoOp or team vs. team missions, the elected admin simply restarts the mission and continues to do so until the idiot gets bored and leaves. He's then identified and reported to TG admins who ban him from the servers. I believe their is a way to check logs to look for the actions of an individual as well. But really the worst problems we've had are just dead players using their seagulls giving away positions on Team vs. Team matches. At any rate, if you don't get an answer here concerning how to check the logs for an individual's actions (like doing that command you were talking about), then I would go to http://www.tacticalgamer.com/armed-assault/ and contact an admin there about how to check server logs for such actions so that you can see who did it and ban them. Also check the BI wiki for ArmA to see if they information on how to check server logs. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>

Are those PASGT kevlar helmets? If so, they should be changed out to the Russian style SLA helmets that are closer to the Iraqi made helmets. Also the pants should be black instead of dark brown as the Fedayeen uniform was typically all black. One last thing... I've never seen any pictures of them wearing goggles and the beret should be black. Example picture: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3114/3161844388_c79f381dcc.jpg?v=0 Now it would be super nice is to find a modeller who can make the darth vader helmet often worn by the Fedayeen as seen here: http://www.cascoscoleccion.com/iraq/iradarva.htm Oh yeah the download page didn't work for me. You might try putting it on another free hosting site. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD> -

Oh if you meant the BTR-152, then yeah we got that converted and yes we have the M3 converted although it has a bug where the crew keep bailing out....so I just gotta fix that and the IDF M3 halftrack will be good to go. The BTR-152 I have as a solid tan Egyptian version and a striped desert camoflaged Syrian version. It works very nicely. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD> ---------- Post added at 05:42 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:39 PM ---------- Negative. We have too much work as it is just getting this pack finished. A few things will work in ace but most of the core stuff sadly no. However once we start creating things for ArmA2, we will make sure to work closely with the ACE mod in ArmA2 so that our addons will be compatible. Believe me, I LOVE ACE just as much as you do. If my mod had the manpower to do it, we would make it fully compatible in ArmA. However we just don't have enough people or time to do it. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>
