Can't wait to test your work footmunch ! Seems great One remark, though: your skyraider has a pretty strange colour scheme... I think a better way to paint it would be metallic grey with a black zone in front of the cockpit (to avoid being blinded by the sun reverberating ont the nose of the aircraft).

Something to test out to solve memory map errors
malick replied to kegetys's topic in TROUBLESHOOTING
By the way, I got rid of my memory mapping problem, but it seems I can't depbo O.pbo and some really big pbo (like kegety's snow islands...). I use pbotool, and it creates a directory called O, but it leaves it empty I can't apply kegety's method with these large files... Has anyone an idea or an explanation ? Thanks anyway -
I'd say this one is contour or at least, it looks like it !

Wow ! Fubar, your pics are amazing. I really like the second one... What's this effect called, in which photo editor ?

I've searched the forums for this, but couldn't find it... A long time ago, I read Red Storm Rising by Tom Clancy. It was about a Russian invasion of Europe in the 80's, with an intricate political plot in background. There were many heroes, on a destroyer in the atlantic, on a sub in north sea, in an Abrams of the army, and another lost officer in Iceland. Maybe some of you remember this great novel. Recently I've been trying to adapt this scenari to an user made campaign, but it was before Resistance. Since then, I got other things to do and many technical difficulties, like a memory map problem that is now solved. And now, I don't know how to use the new features of 1.91, like the weapons or characters pools... Has anyone been trying to create such a campaign ?

Thanks for answering havocsquad ! Well, I didn't plan to cover the entire war, specially naval and ASW operation which are impossible to render in OFP. I just wanted to have a "semi dynamic" campaign, focused on an area, like western Germany which needs a new map to be designed, and involving only land combats, at any scale possible. I see that you've taken care of the aerial part, and I hope it wasn't too hard ! What you say is quite interesting, and your campaign seems really complex and technically evolved. But, remember the flight models and gameplay of OFP with aircrafts is mostly arcade... I say that cause I just don't like flying in OFP, which is mainly a "grunt simulator" and I really love that part of the game. By the way, did you manage to have the aircrafts engage each other every time? Cause so many times I couldn't, it made me mad ! I'd like to make a campaign as complex as possible, where every action you fail or succeed influence the rest of the mission. I wanted to make the player start as a spetnasz team leader, have him infiltrate NATO lines before the war in order to gather information and sabotage NATO communications just before the invasion. If he failed this, then the next mission would be harder, or the operation was delayed, etc.. Then, he should join with the spearhead of the Russian army and lead some of the assaults. Again, whenever he failed in some objectives, the following missions would have different objectives and opponents, according to what's been done before. If, for example, he couldn't prevent the German from blasting a bridge, he would have to seize the next one. If he succeeds the first time, the assault can go on. This requires a lot of preparation and careful planning of the campaign. In fact, the campaign includes planning something like 30 missions, but just playing 10 of them according to the player's skill. Eventually, I thought of three or four different endings: win by taking NATO by full surprise, allowing to seize the Gulf oil reserves (like was planned in the book), lose/win with a cease fire or peace treaty because it has gone too far (like in the book), lose by devastating all of Europe through nuclear havock, or completely lose by letting the NATO war effort bring up a counter attack and overrun the out of oil russian army. The worst is that I have to wait to have my computer back in order to restart working on it. Right now I read eagerly the forums in my office... Hope my boss won't see But I keep on thinking and planning this campaign. Good luck, and good work, with yours... Cheers ! Malick

Great! I already liked the first versions, I hope this one's even better! Can't DL right now, but, where can I find a map of the island? BTW, what is its size (12kmx12km ?)
-
I understood... I was just giving you a simple method to do this in OFP1 BTW I think that the 3D rendering of a random generated 51kmx51km island may take ages on nowadays computers. Maybe in 2004 ?
-
BTW, is there a fully translated version of Visitor ?? Cause I have difficulties understanding what "pojmenovane oblasti" truly means and other things like that... Â Edit: Just thought of another question... Is it necessary to have OFP installed on the computer you work on ? Cause I tried to install Wrpedit v0.93 and it said 'no flashpoint installed on this computer' ! Hint: I'd like to make an island while in the office, don't tell my boss No way I can install OFP on this PC, I'd get killed

It was discussed a long time ago how to make a semi random or semi dynamic campaign: in fact, you have a "pool" of missions from which to pick from, and a script or random variables decide which one to play next, through init.sqs. This way you can have a semi dynamic campaign, setting variables and using the six different ends available in the mission editor. Or have a semi random mission "generator". But, you first have to define all the mission to chose from, and then, write a script init.sqs to link them all in one, adding a variable randomly pointing to one of them. When you launch the mission, init.sqs is runned, sets the random variable and, voila ! Hope it helps...

It may be my screen, but I can't see a damn thing Too dark on most screen shots !

Ah, I thought it was something like that, PAT for pattern, but found MAR for Marine a bit too easy
-
Hum... By the way, can anyone tell me what 'Marpat' really means ? Is it a contraction, a real name, or a nickname?

I think you can already change that in the config. I recall there is a line like <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">FFfrequency = 5 or something. Â you can toggle that for the different fire modes. You are probably right when you're saying more frequent FF was more realistic. But when you're actually playing the game and your dumbass team members constantly zap eachother in the most inappropriate moments... well, that's no fun at all. What you say is quite interesting Didn't know that we could change this right into the config. Though I often get shot at by my own squad mates when I play one man army Guess they don't like you being a hero

It is not a MH-53 It is a CH-53 Big difference in those 2 choppers Scorpio told long tome ago that he was working on a MH-53 too but newver seen a screenshot of it Gasp ! I forgot Sorry for this HUGE difference already debated over... And Scorpio, what do you think of the idea of replacing the destroyed CH53 by a random wreck ?
-
Hmmm, will you be able to make a wreck model ? It could be very 'decorative' in background I just realized I already asked Scorpio for a wreck of his CH53. Guess I love wrecks Edit: Forgot to ask if you had this model in a black gloss paint scheme ?

What do you mean? (I have the o.pbo error to but, I dont understand what you mean with "Copy config and put it into its own PBO file" I think he means that you have to re-PBO the config.bin or .cpp into its own PBO, without anything else in it. The rest of the data is in another folder. This way, the PBO is just a few Ko large, not Mo... -
Setting up camp or airfields while in game...
malick replied to Bullz_eye_on_my_back's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Well, Bullz_eye_on_my_back, it is not a bad idea just a bit too excessive. In fact I think that most of it can be done with scripts or addons. You can clear a drop zone for yourself the way I told you (satchels + helipad), and you can even add a smoke grenade just for fun -
Hi Scorpio ! I really like your job, and I hope your update will satisfy every one around. Just one little wish, please : can you make a wreck model of the MH53, like the blackhawk or Mi-2 ? Or anyone else can do it ? Furthermore, while looking at the Mi-2 v2 addon pack, I found that they have a nice little feature: they replace the destroyed helicopter by a wreck model, which annihilates this damned bouncing effect for crashed planes and choppers... Thanks a lot anyway !
-
I really loved that mission the first time I played ! Allways wondered if he could be saved if we moved in quickly enough... But I don't remember being blind cause of the sun.
-
Man, I've been waiting for this for decades I think it should be implemented on many planes and choppers addons, or even BIS models, cause I can't stand this bouncing effect anymore
-
I understand you. The sun seems to be a bit weak, I'd like to be blinded by looking right to it. Though, it's not funny if the AI is not blinded too! This could bring new tactics: attacking with the sun behind us to blind the ennemy at dawn ! On the other hand, the sun, as many other light sources on the map, is able to shine through mountains and objects... This is quite annoying, no ? When playing a night mission, and being able to see a light miles behind a mountain... Or is it my video card ?

Setting up camp or airfields while in game...
malick replied to Bullz_eye_on_my_back's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Hmmm... I think setting up a camp could be a cool and realistic feature in OFP, allowing longer missions to be played. We could set a camp for the night, with sentinels and patrols, and the following day go on with the mission. It's a feature I've missed in some missions. Or another, simplified version so that you could drop your bag before an assault for example. But, for the airfield script, hum... Maybe too complicated. You can do it with a script and markers (don't ask me how ) for a chopper to land. Just blast some trees with charges and create an invisible H so that AI can land on it. It may as well land elsewhere, as the AI seems drunk round the clock -
WOW Thanks guys for making so beautiful french stuff ! Now that my memory map pb is solved, I can test it EXTENSIVELY... Tadatata tada ta ta tada (la marseillaise)
