Hi folks, hate to dig up an old topic but I was wondering if anybody found out why the Nampack 2 caused freeze ups. I've tried using it since upgrading my PCs RAM and it still locks up.

Did anybody ever find out

I've switched off the dynamic sound range and that seems to have done it. -

It is however true that many people have had freezes with the sample mission that came with the pack no matter what.<span id='postcolor'> How does that work then? Just create a Nampack folder for it within Res/Addons? -

All this american anti-french cobblers is really irritating. If you want to hate the French do it for a legitimate reason like their annoyingly overtalented crop of footballers at Arsenal who won't stop winning or the way they actually eat food that is made of something other that mashed cow and fat or the way they charge stupidly small amounts for booze. Those are good reasons to hate the French. Just because they won't help the US commit mass murder to further the current administrations imperialist ambitions is not a good reason to hate the French. To get back to the topic. The addons look mint. My only concern is that given we are probably pretty close to the appearence of African militia addons who will, likely as not, appear on the resistence side, would it not be a better idea to stick with convention and stick the French on the West side?

Light transport aircraft able to carry a squad of troops? Best idea I ever heard of. Word to the wise on these sort of things though, realism is good, but playability is much, much more important. The Antonov addon rocks the world because the AI can fly it easy and taxi it.
-
This is definitly a top addon. Now the russkies have all their bases covered for Helicopters, all we need now is a fighter jet that can taxi.

The addon ideas topic
Ludovico Technique replied to USMC Sniper's topic in ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
I agree a really nice C130 would be nice. The current one is all right, but I think a vehicle that is so fundamentally important to the militaries of the western world needs to have a really high quality addon. -
Hey folks does anybody have a good link you get weapons fire sounds from? I've tried searching and all I get are crazy CD collections that seem a little disturbing to say the least (who wants to pay $300 just to listen to gunfire?). Specifically I am hunting for the distinctive sound of the Riger Mini-14, as used loads in the A-Team. Any pointers?
-
Hi folks, just to let you know that an A-team mod is being created (well really it will just be an addon featuring the characters, but mod seemed like a good word for it). Anywho the team as it stands lacks an experienced addon maker to basically show the rest of us how its all done. It's not looking like being a mammoth undertaking at the moment, just the four main guys and their van to start with. We've already got the crazy cut down M14 they love to use so much. Anybody free to help out?

An a-team mod underway
Ludovico Technique replied to Ludovico Technique's topic in ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Basic loadout for an A-Team member at the moment is looking like being a Colt .45 (M1911 or some such) and a Ruger Mini 14. I found on a website that the version used in the A-Team is the stainless steel ranch version modified for full auto, so that might be the way to go. The van will hold the extra guns and ammunition and will be hella fast. -

Mini-14s and AC556 is what we got. And they rock. -
If you've got the cheeky M14 then that's the A-Team mod practically done. Personally though, since it is a game supposedly set in the 1980s, I think the A-Team would be the best addon EVER. It could be done too. Need a van full of all sorts of guns and the team itself, then maybe some 1980s sedans and stuff to shoot the crap out of, and some goons in suits with subbies and pistols, and if you could do a Captain Cab variant of Murdoch it would rock.

At what point does a war become a massacre?
Ludovico Technique replied to Ludovico Technique's topic in OFFTOPIC
The media were kept away from many of the battle sites of the Gulf War. It was something I remember watching the war unfold on the news as a kid, there were no casualties, no bodies of the victims, just lots of planes flying back and forth, tracers over Baghdad and some footage of artillery. I think in real terms the whole war was a massacre from day one of the air campaign. The Iraqi army might as well have been equipped with flint axes and chariots for all the good their weapons were. I believe the air campaign waged by the allies was a heinous act of overkill, and had the US army simply rolled into Kuwait the Iraqi military would have folded like a bad poker hand. Given the Iraqi military machine is only a very pale shadow of what it was in 1991 I really hope the US and its allies pull their punches with this new war they have planned. Aside from the fact that any new war with the new ultrahightech weapons is going to be the most one sided fight in modern history there is a very real chance that a second Gulf War could be akin to Bloody Sunday in Northern Ireland but on a much, much bigger scale. In short if you're going to take candy from a baby you don't have to use a chainsaw. -
I've decided to remove all my modern addons for the time being and give the WW2 kit a try. Could anybody tell me what's available where?
-
Well I snaffled up a load of addons. Almost all are of a very high standard but there is a disconcerting trend to have no groups for the units (the 101st airborne and landser being notable exceptions to this) Still they are pretty cool.
-
There's been a glut of really high quality special forces mods appear recently, and this has caused a problem. The original BIS troops simply aren't up to standard. UCE's Soviet infantry is amazing, as are Frandsen's Marines and BAS's new bunch of SpecOps boys and many others. What is lacking now for the West I feel are the grubby regular troops that do most of the actual grunt work. Sort of like the shabby, unkempt looking US Army infantry from the second Vietnam pack, only modern. I reckon reservists would be a good addon, you could remodel them in authentic kit rather than the generic BIS kit, you could make the models a little podgier and you could have them run slower and get tired much faster. Obviously such guys would make the game tougher to play, but I think they would really rock. Any thoughts?

Addon suggestion
Ludovico Technique replied to Ludovico Technique's topic in ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
(Should point out this is in response to Black Dog, yeah I know I should use the quote button) I disagree. The East has the best general infantry (UCEs replacements for the basic infantry are top notch) and the East has the best tanks and APCs. What they are really lacking is a similarly well made bunch of Spec Ops to match the BAS Spec Ops. I don't see that happening though for the simple reason that in real life Spetsnatz don't have anything like as much funky gear as the Deltas. What the West really lacks are the basic troopers. The bog standard western infantry that come with the game are okay, but they could be done so much better with the pool of expertise currently at work on various addons. -
I noticed that. When experimenting with new units and stuff I normally just place a group, play as the machinegunner, waste everybody in my squad and then pick up weapons to test at leisure. With this lot it took so long to kill them they blatted me. The Delta self healing has been explained, but I dunno if that is it or not.

Su-37 berkut in progress
Ludovico Technique replied to 2stoned2kil-'s topic in ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
I think (I could be wrong) but I think the SU-37 should have thrust vectoring, canards and also a rear facing radar system, as well as short range rear aspect missiles. Aside from that though, to go back to the whole Cobra maneuvre thingy, I thought the obvious point was you get the plane to somersault, halfway through the move you unload your long range missiles at the guy behind you who is nicely lit up by the plane's all-aspect radar system, and then you scoot off again. For an ordinary plane turning to engage a nippy pursuit fighter would be a lot of effort, the SU-37 can cover its arse while remaining pretty much on course. -

Bienvenue au france (eh...)
Ludovico Technique replied to mr. Duck's topic in ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I can't resist it any longer, I'm going to have to download them groups or no groups. I'm quite glad the French don't have a command to drop rifle and leg it, it could lead to all sorts of regional stereotypes in addons. There'd be a mod so the British rifle's didn't work, a mod so the Austrailians had to radio home base on the hour for the cricket scores, a mod for the Russians to sell their ammunition and a mod for the USA that meant at any given moment there would be a chance one of your own attack helicopters would pop up and waste you by mistake. -
I think they are pretty good. They seem to be a bit harder to kill than ordinary troops, I don't know if that is because they are beefed up toughness or if I was just kneecapping the guy though. I like the textures and weapons too. Sorry if my praise seems a bit feint but I really don't like special forces missions, so they aren't much use to me. Any chance of whipping up a bunch of good old fashioned overweight, undertrained, poorly educated reservists in the near future? Seems in terms of game balance on one hand we have the East, lots of mint regular infantry and the best tanks, and on the West we have piles of mint elite troops and some really nice helicopters. To redress the balance need some top drawer Spetnatz and a helicopter for the East and some chunky weekend warriors and a battle taxi for the West.

Bienvenue au france (eh...)
Ludovico Technique replied to mr. Duck's topic in ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Hum, if there's to be a later version I'll wait for that. I can't be doing with addons for troops with no groups. Does me head in. That said I reckon the French make a welcome change from the usual infantry addons. I await the next version eagerly. -
