    The Iraq Thread

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote (denoir @ Dec. 18 2002,17:26)</td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">The ironic thing might be that Saddam's Iraq is actually a stabilizing power in the region. The biggest enemy of the west and western culture in that region is Iran. A weak Iraq is good for Iran. They might even want to annex a part of it to 'liberate' the Shi'a muslims. Saddam also keeps the Kurds on a tight leash. If Saddam's empire was to fall they would gain power which means big problems for Turkey. A weak Turkey makes Greece happy. Perhaps so happy that they take Cyprus back. And then we can kiss NATO goodbye.<span id='postcolor'> Well, I don't know about all that Turkey, Greece + the downfall of NATO stuff... Seems a bit on the extreme pessimistic side! I guess you never can tell though... I agree that we are going to see some major problems with Iran. Â The only reason US & Iran relations haven't been as crappy as they usually are is because of our common woes with Iraq. Â Once Iraq is out of the picture who knows what could could happen. Iran is only a few steps behind the Taliban when it comes to being Islamic fundamentalists. They have no love for us that's for damn sure - and many people in the US are still pissed off about that hostage crisis stuff. Â It doesent look good... Last weekend my unit had to get living wills done, a bunch of bloodwork, and we also received a whole bunch of new gear like the new flak jackets, M4's, Laser day sights, stuff like knee-pads, ellbow pads, etc. Â A whole Bagdad blood-bath kit. It reeks of deplyoment. Â When the desert BDU's comes in I'll be really worried....

    Best unfinished movie trilogy

I have to go with Lord of the Rings too. Â It's an unbeatable classic. Â 100 years from now, people with view it as pure legend. The Matrix was really good, but I doubt the sequel will be as cool. Â The thing that made the Matrix so good was the fact that all of a sudden you realized that the world was fake... That was the schocker that made it so fascinating. Â Now that the cat is out of the bag, Matrix 2 will probably seem kind of lame.

  5. Ok, before you flame me and close this thread, I did in fact do some searching around in this forum already, but I couln't find exactly what I was looking for so... I made this mission for the new super cool SEB vietnam 2.0 mod. I'm using several different LZ's in a relatively small radius to do various dropp offs and pick ups. The area is pretty hot the entire mission. Anyway, my choppers are getting very confused with the 4 separate invisible H's that I have placed in the area and tend to land at whichever one they please rather than the one I want them to go to, or in some cases, they just ignore them alltogether and land in a field 800m away. I tried placing a move waypoint just before the load/transport unload waypoint, to slow the choppers down in order to find their assigned LZ, but it doesent seem to matter. Is it the fact that there are enemies on the ground? If so, is there a way to make them un-afraid of them? How can I fix this mess to make them land precisely where I tell them to land. Is it even possible? Any help would be appreciated.

That's the way grown ups make this world as fucked as possible. The syrum already exists i think...<span id='postcolor'> The reason most countries keep a small stock pile of smallpox, is so they can continue to make the vaccine.  It's a live virus vaccine, so it requires fresh viruses in order to be produced.  Once you get rid of your viruses, your capability of making more vaccine is gone. Of course the same viruses that are used to make vaccines, can potentially be used to make nasty weapons with too. What are the regulations on stockpiling smallpox?  Is it illegal for any particular country to have it?

    The Iraq Thread

The more I think about it, the worse the idea of an attack on Iraq seems. Â Thanks tex, for bringing up some good points. Believe it or not, but I've been noticing a lot of doubt from local people about this war on Iraq. Â Mainly from veterans organizations. Â I find it surprising considering that most people in my part of the world (Florida Panhandle) are hardcore republicans. I was watching some local groups debate a possible war with Iraq on PBS last night. The organization who seemed to question the war effort the most turned out to be the local chapter of the American Legion! I had to agree with almost all of their conclusions. Â Especially the 3rd point they brought up made me really think twice. The points discussed were this: 1. The necessity for war is too vauge. There is a sense that Washington has not thought it through enough. 2. What will be our long term responsibilities with Iraq after Saddam is ousted? Do we really want to deal with it? 3. Most politicians today (there are some exceptions) especially those who are advocating war, have never served in the armed forces, nor do any of their immediate family members serve. Â Unlike the potentially thousands of American military families who may experience devastating losses, these politicians who make the decisions have nothing (or nobody) to lose. Â I say, take their kids out of their fancy ivy leauge schools and make them join the Army instead, then lets see how many politicians would still be interested in waging war with Iraq. Â

    The Iraq Thread

Well, the prospects of a new fresh thread looks bleak, so I guess I'll try to live with this one after all. </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">This week talkings of exile Iraqui´s started on how to divide power and money and land after the removing of Saddam. I thought : "Hey great ! This bunch of guys that dont actually life in Iraq but claim to have ancient rights are taslking about who will be set into power and how to make them all (not the Iraqi people of course) richer." Bah! That stinks again. They are no better than Saddam is. I am not surprised that they already negotiate with major Oil companies about the post war time. Surprised ? I am not. If US protects them after possible war it wont take long till the next civil war. Iraq to Iraq´s people ! Not to any exile businessmen or "ancient" beholders of power. <span id='postcolor'> Yes, I actually agree with you here.  If (or when) the US decides to take down Saddam, this could become a major problem.  Saddam has many enemies in his country and allthough we would appreciate as much local help as possible during any military campaign, we need to be very careful of whom we make friends with.  An Enemy of Saddam does not neccessarily mean that he would make a good western ally in peacetime.  It's this kind of wrong dealings that has made us look really bad in the past.  On the other hand, if we get too involved with setting up a new govenrment, enforcing democratic elections, etc. then it will look like we are trying to set up a puppet regime... What could we do to make everyone happy?

    The Iraq Thread

I have a request to the moderators: Anyone can clearly see that this thread has become a big jumbled mess of various topics, some related to Iraq, some to Afghanistan, and a whole lot of FSPilot desperately trying to defend questionable U.S. foreign policies to the best of his abilities against a hoard of anti-US-involvement statements. Â Add a few pages of spam, and you have yourself a "What is to be expected after the war on Iraq?" Thread. I really wish you guys could perhaps start a new clean thread related to the war on terrorism in general. Here in the States we get a very one-sided view on this topic, and I find it fascinating to see what the international community have to say, especially from fellow gamers like myself. This thread is just too messy for me to make any worthy comments in. Â Let's start over. Please!!

We've been celebrating Christmas for hundreds of years and it also goes way back in to our European origions and now they take it all away just so they don't offend some minority groups. For example, if you moved to Iran or somthing, you wouldn't expect them to stop having Ramadan becasue it offeneds you, would you? Also more news I heard today, public schools in and around Toronto are not allowed to celebrate christmas in any way, and I assume its happening in other Canadian cities too.<span id='postcolor'> Iran is an Islamic state, of course I would expect their government to support (and even enforce) muslim religious holidays. Canada is not a religious state so I think their new legislation is very appropriate if not even long overdue. I wish the US government would separate itself more from the church like that. As for christams ceremonies in school. As innocent as these school plays may sound, imagine how you would feel if you were not from a christian household, you'd be pretty much forced to participate in these religious rituals. I say, keep the christmas plays in church where they belong.

    The sum of all fears.

I'm a bit biased from reading the book, so I probably slammed this movie more than it deserved.. The plot made better sense during the original timeline (late 80's early 90's) When US / Russian relations were much more fragile. The trouble spot in the book is not Chechnya either, It's about Israel vs. Palestinians in the beginning, and includes a very clever plan by Jack Ryan to bring peace to the region... Does anyone else remember this? I'm surprised that it has'nt been brought up in the Mid East thread. I think the movie writers changed this (thus changing the entire story) to avoid any political heat that might arise.

    The sum of all fears.

This movie was pure garbage! Ben Afleck as Jack Ryan....No friggin way in hell, and did you see who played John Clark?? /pukes on the floor I'm a huge fan of Tom Clancy novels and "A Sum of All Fears" was one of my favourites. I found the movie adaption a complete insult. They completely lost the whole point of the story.

    The christmas thread...

If a government who claims to practice religious freedom wants to change a few official holiday names here and there to something more general in order not to alienate other religions - I don't see what's wrong with that at all. Â I mean, the Holidays belong to a variety of religions and is not only exclusive to Christians. Â Nothing is stopping Christian Canadians from calling their trees "Christmas Trees" just becase the place that sells them calls them "Holiday Trees".... We are just talking about nomenclature here, what's the big deal?

    The christmas thread...

I know this sounds wierd to some of you, but Christmas is not Christian in origin. Â Sure the name "Christmas" is Christian, but the holiday and its rituals are pagan in origin. Â Let me explain: Â Ever heard of Yule Tide or Midwinter? It was a very important and popular pagan holiday in Europe (mostly in the north). Â The Church, struggling to convert these heathens, cleverly decided to place the birth day of Jesus around this same time. You don't think December 25th was written in the Bible did you? They adopted most of the old pagan rituals, put them in a Christian context and viola, Cristmas is Born. Â This way the heathens would still be able to celebrate their holiday just like they had always done, while at the same time adapting easily into the new trendy religion that was sweeping the world. The Christmas tree by the way is indeed Germanic, like you said. Â Farmers used to decorate a pine tree indoors to ensure good crops for the following year. It had nothing to do with Jesus.

  22. There's a command called "getdamage" that you can use. You could put it in the condition field of a trigger or waypoint. It would look something like this: chopper1 getdamage >= 0.5; I've never used it myself, but in theory it should work. Good luck with your mission.
