This looks like an old post but I will add to it anyway.. The BIS standard is used on most dedicated servers. We use it on ours and it makes searching for maps easier. (We have about 300 and its tough) Example of a 30 player coop 16-30_C_SLAPTHEMONKEY.abel Example of a 30 player CTF 16-30_T_EVILMONKEYCTF Basically, C = Coop, D = DM, T = Teamplay, TDM = TeamDeathmatch, CH = CaptureHold, DD = Defend Destroy

lol @ "strong" pc.. my pc is strong.. lol erm... yeah.. just specify dif ports, then u don't need to screw around with changing ips. I think your players need to connect on the new port also though.. (???)

Those are definately good ideas guys, some other possibilities: *"I'M READY" and "START" buttons not required. *Automatic playerlist sort according to ping *Admin ability to force AI off on both teams simultaneously. [Disable Side] [Disable All] [Enable / Disable] *Player name changes color or speaker symbol appears when using in-game mic. *More efficient use of color-coding in playerlist Red = Connection will result in lagged play Yellow = Player experiencing some lag Green = Player is not lagging Because of the nature of the game, the waiting, etc, the more efficiently the role selection and game setup screens run, and the also the more ability the admin has to keep gameplay flowing, directly effects playability of the server.

Suma, BIS, As a dedicated server admin, I am constantly faced with a very tough job. I believe it does not need to be so hard. There needs to be more support for the dedicated server admins, we need commands to find information quickly. For example : #userlist - Displays awkwardly with very long time taken to search for specific user. Suggestion: #details <user number / name> -Displays following details about user: playerid, connection number, ip address. #ban <user number / name> <days> bans the user for specified number of days. The days part is not as important as the facility to implement bans immediately. Admin is often occupied with constantly kicking a user they plan to add to the ban.txt file. #upload <local dir path \ map name.pbo> Many dedicated servers are hosted by companies that often do not have quick support response times. If a map is discovered to include a bug that impacts server performance / gameplay, this map could be fix and overwritten. #removemap <map name> This command would be useful to remove problem maps from a server. #restartserver This option would be useful as #shutdown can be a problem for servers that are not configured to automatically reload. This will allow an admin with login pass to restart the server, refreshing the map list. #motd <insert message> This will allow important information to be displayed for players when connecting, allowing admin to keep players updated even when he is not online. This would be useful for advising players a new map is online, a new update is available from BIS, or any other useful information. Note these commands should only be available to an admin with the login pass Regards,

I'm too locked out of my chopper!

sure u did -
Sound's like your CD is scratched or dirty dude. Data.pbo is a large file so it covers a large section of the CD. If your CD is scratched or dirty, there is a good chance that the file effected will be data.pbo.. Regards,

The Avon Lady has an FAQ that has a troubleshooting section. It is searchable so you might find what u need there. www.theavonlady.org Regards,

To set it up I would assume it goes something like this: Video out on video card > Cable to VCR > VCR Cable to TV Now if it is hooked up correctly, you should be able to see whats on your computer, on ur tv. Make sure your VCR tunes into the frequency that your computer is outputting, you simply cannot just plug the cable in and expect it to display. *TV needs to be tuned into video *Need to select a channel on VCR and tune it to your PC output. *Need to make sure you are receiving properly before recording. God no.. I would rather wait half an hour for a game, than play in some crap quake version of OFP. guns / bodies / broken stuff disappearing? Get real.. no way.. Might aswell just loose all the things that make OFP unique also, vehicles, large maps... If JIP cannot be implemented without removing these things, than forget it, let the n00bs complain about the wait for games...

Not easy at all. I can't get ftp access, I can't get a script setup that allows me to upload. It is not that these things are not possible. It is simply that the game server hosting company doesn't "have" to, so they don't. I don't like to do a job halfway, so I've resigned as the admin. Hopefully things get easier in the future for everyone.

It shows detailed info about the server: whether it's online or not, which mission is being played, number of players, etc... If anyone wants an upload, delete script (note that I only do PHP), contact me and I will make one.<span id='postcolor'> I would very much appreciate that Adega....... I have no players on my server at the moment, because a competitor has an updated version of a popular map. :/ I was very much hoping for this sort of functionality but I agree with Suma in that while it is needed, (and I do feel the need), it maybe shouldn't be incorporated into the ofp code.. Damn, I'm really stuck now.......

And without #motd how do I display a notice NOT to play 1-8DESERTAMBUSH because it crashes? Or how do I remove the map to make sure people don't crash? Everything I ask for has a reason, everything I suggest is based on solid experience running and OFP server. Your point of view is noted, but as you RUN the server it is fairly obvious that these commands are simply just not important to YOU. Regards,
-
BigQed, I think you are in a fairly unique situation where you actually RUN the company that the server is hosted on. I however, am simply the admin of the ofp server, I have a password login, and I do a LOT of work to keep the server running but if I fix something, nothing actually gets changed on the server for weeks until the people at the hosting company have time for it. Both myself (Admin of opflash.gameplanet.co.nz) and CRO (Admin of iPGN Dedicated OFP Server Australia) require this as we do not have the ability to use ftp. And I am very sure many other admins are in this situation. Regards,
-
I agree, except only blackops / spetz natz should be able to disarm, which would increase reliance on teamwork and strategic role selection. Now.. back to my argument with Suma.. trying to get some much needed features added.....

As soon as we upgraded to 1.49 1-8_C_DESERTAMBUSH.ABEL.PBO no longer works. It crashes to desktop. :/ Crash files have been sent. But I am curious if you have tested this particular map with a dedicated 1.49 server and 1.46 client and managed to get it to work.. Regards,

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote (Suma @ April 03 2002,17:09)</td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">As for other requested features (#upload, #removemap): I think there is little point in trying to duplicate remote-access services that should be common on any server, like file manipulation. If you disagree with me, please try to explain me more what is the problem.<span id='postcolor'> The reason these commands are important to us is that in a lot of situations, the admin with the pass does not actually have direct access to the server. I am in Australia, my server is in NZ. Giving remote-access service access is not the same as having the admin pass. Once a bug is discovered in a map, it can take weeks for a request for it to be removed / updated to be completed. In this time server performance / quality of gameplay is effected. To be able to simply managed files within the scope of the \MPMissions\ directory would be a major improvement. Most game server hosting companies are quite happy to choose permanent admins to give the login pass to, so that server management can be handled by them, as they are in the best position to know the state of the server. But they will generally not give remote management access of their servers to ofp admins. This means requests for map updates take a very long time. Now of course this option can be enabled in the server.cfg so that each company may decide whether this function is suitable for their admins. It's default can be OFF. These commands would make administrating ofp servers much easier and keep the level of enjoyment of the game at high levels. Regards,

Sorry, bit unclear there. Assuming a person uses these settings in 1.49, as we had done, the results are as follows.....: Basically I mean the same settings in versions 1.48 and lower do not seem to produce the same results. 1.49 + these settings turned out to be a good combination for us. Hope that clears it up.. no doubt you will need more data to establish whether these settings improve performance accross the board. Regards,

Which unit killed which unit ?
Lt_Damage replied to Ako's topic in OFP : MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Oh ok... right. Well each AI would need to have a name. And you would need a script that activates if the AI dies then says. "AI_Name was killed by Player_Name" so there are some values that need to be defined. I am fairly sure there is a script existing because on some missions, I have seen such statements when an AI has been killed, usually doesn't include the players name who killed him, but that would just be a matter of changing the script to say the player's name. -
lol.. imagine the chaos..

"I saw him officer, just ran her over and keep on driving, all swervy like.. I saw him I did, he was driving an orange car"

Awesome... make that guy head of OF Developement, it'd be the prettiest ever game that didn't work.

It is a difficult issue. I am an admin of a dedicated server, I have only had to ban one cheater. Basically the admin has to be aware of whats going on. Cheaters can often be caught visually.. and then kicked / banned. Implementing suggested code would create problems. Let the admin's do the work. On that note, there needs to be more support for the dedicated server admins, we need commands to find information quickly. For example : #userlist - Displays awkwardly with very long time taken to search for specific user. Suggestion: #details <user number / name> -Displays following details about user: playerid, connection number, ip address. #ban <user number / name> <days> bans the user for specified number of days.

Assuming these settings are in 1.49, the following results were achieved on a dedicated 1.49 server with 1.46 clients: *Vehicle lag is significantly reduced over 1.46 netcode, delay upon entering vehicle is usually less than a couple seconds, where as 1.46 it could be up to a minute. *Driving vehicles is also much less laggy. *Kill lag is also improved. *Server timeout's have virtually been eliminated. *"No message received" message rarely appears, even when server connection under strain. (This might be bad or good..) Only issue I have noticed is crash to desktop, which I am working on troubleshooting. As soon as I have more information I will cover this area more in depth. Edit - Typos Regards,
