    As an admin of a dedicated server I can tell you now revenge gets you nowhere. For a couple reasons: <ul> [*]You don't feel much better afterwoods anyway. [*]Player usually will not leave it at that and kill you and possibly others in further retalliation. [*]What you really want is for him to not do it again right?, so best course of action is to report to admin for him to be kicked. Sitting the rest of the game out is ample time to contemplate the error of his ways. Regards,

    I can believe. When you see some of the very basic questions asked here.. like how to run a program that doesn't have a shortcut.. you can imagine what they do to their OS daily just by using it.
  4. Also just to reduce the amount of data sent to clients on connection. Is it necessary that all players receive the mission list upon connecting or is this something that can be done when they are logged in as admin? As only 1 person can be admin, eveyone receiving this mission list seems unecessary. Unless there is a reason they need this list even if not admin then that's fine. As far as mission selection goes I would like to see the following: <ul> [*]Subfolders to store different mission types, e.g instead of all in one big list seperated by islands, i would like it seperated by island and then gametype or personalised directories. [*]Missions are sorted according to frequency they are played. Frequently used missions are sorted to top of the list. Also maybe when mouse is hovering over mission small summary comes up. (Like the info you can put in mp3 files). Maybe it can have the first few lines of the briefing or overview or something. [*]Mission list is only sent to the client if / when they login as an admin whether by voting or password. This way they do not receive the mission list if they don't need it, enabling quicker connect times for 56k players.

    If you select your Network Connections folder and right-click on your internet connection and select Properties. You can go to the Advanced tab and disable personal firewall settings for that connection. This may solve your problem.

    Well that's all very well but it doesn't exactly help him with his problem. With the people who were crashing 1.60 on my server the following things helped: Updating latest sound drivers Updating latest video drivers Update these and then get back to us.

    Slow loading after multiplayer

    I have a similar thing happen after a long session. My theory is that it is getting rid of all the data it had in your swap file and clearing your memory of the application, swapping the desktop back into memory.

    Too many squad-logos are transfered

    Hehe, good points Suma. It is my undestanding then, that along with the mission list, custom faces, squad images get transferred.. this is obviously what is taking people so long to connect in 1.60. Now the only one that is actually a bug, is too many squad images being sent to client, even when squad's aren't online. This will be fixed, but there is still the problem that slow modem players will have to download this content to see custom faces. Can there be an option so they may disable this transfer and simply have a default face displayed? This could enhance already slow connection times for modem players, giving them more choice on the content they wish to download. Customizations are all very well if some players wish to have them, but I believe there should be an option on whether a player on a modem wishes to slow his connection down to see them.     Server commands

    Let him have his auto-kick option, all players are welcome at Gameplanet (The NZ server they were talking of). You will not see a lot of kicking there, the entire point of an admin is to manage the server in such a way that it is available to as many people as possible and so that the players online may enjoy their games. As admin that's what I'm there for. Sounds like UKPUSHER just wants to run a dedicated with his mates, but needs some players to join so they don't have to have AI, but he doesn't really care if his server "serves" anyone except himself and his mates. opflash.gameplanet.co.nz:2302 Version 1.60 All welcome.

    Being admin and having another person login

    As he said it's minor, the ability for voted admins to lock the server is also a problem, although not so minor, and needs to be dealt with. Major concerns should be with the constant ghosting of players, causing long delays during player setup, and constant reassigning. Although 1.60 performs quite well, we are almost forced back to 1.49 with this problem, although we are holding on for another update. Ghosting can usually be fixed if the player disconnects from his ISP, it will usually time out rather quickly. However most users who ghost do not know to do this. We need some sort of checking for "inactivity" and automatic disconnection. Apart from ghosting, some very slow connection problems, the squad profiles being sent to client even though all squads aren't online, and a few other minor details, 1.60 is sucessful.     Could you clarify exactly how Resistance works as an expansion? I have been keepin an eye on all news releases but I am still unclear. Will it upgrade OFP to the new netcode? In such a way that OFP: Resistance servers can be used to host all missions from the previous Red Hammer, and Cold War Crisis or will it be seperated and need Dedicated servers for OFP and Resistance each?

    Kicking ppl in 1.60

    We have also had this issue at Gameplanet, we will have people who suddenly display 0ms ping, and are not able to be kicked, however sometimes the players are still there. We find if they attempt to load briefing they are unable to load and since we cannot start game without them pressing ready we must reassign, leave the 0ms people out, and start again. Apart from that, 1.60 is running great, nice work indeed.

    We have had only a few reports of those problems, most of which have appeared to go away once we moved 1.60 off the test server (average bandwidth/cpu ) to the main Gameplanet server. The main problem we have been experiencing - might actually be the only problem - is ghosting. It is indicated to us by the player being shown with 0ms ping. In some cases the player is still able to send messages, however if he joins up and tries to load briefing he holds us all up indefinately and never loads. We are unable to kick him at this point, we receive a message saying "Administrator: Player blah blah has been kicked." but user remains in list. At this point we must reassign, leave the 0ms players out of the game and continue. Otherwise gameplay seems greatly improved.

    Changing a version number does not fix problems, lol What we need to do is continue supplying BIS with information on how the current beta is performing, how to recreate these issues so that they may fix them. Until they have this information, 1.60 can't be released.

    Just had it reported to me by a Gameplanet 1.58 beta tester that cant get out of A10 when landed and engine is off, have to eject. Not sure if anyone else experienced this problem.

    ALDEGA, I think you must understand, our server currently has 230 missions, considering you find it so easy, would you be able to edit them and make sure the ammo is working? Cheers mate

    Things i have seen so far.

    Ok I guess its not too bad if there is a limit to the amount of bodies being displayed if the amount gets rediculous, but remember the Directplay handled a lot of bodies ok and this new netcode is supposed to improve current gameplay, gameplay is not supposed to be compromised to get better performance, or at least thats how I thought it was supposed to be.. Oh well, we shall see.

    Thanks for the feedback Gonk, I am glad you didn't have any problems, the information you provided is very useful. Did bodies sink into the ground in all instances? I would find this quite disturbing as I didn't know OFP was going to swing towards the "quake" style of FPS where bodies disappear.. hoping it was a bug. America is very sensitive about losing their soldiers in war, so are brutally honest about every death / injury, whereas other countries cover it up, hell why not, it aint a democracy over there anyway.. they run the place how they want.
