Heh, quite frustrating reading I agree.. I think there should be the ability to move your upper torso while seated in a chopper. I think that is all you need. You will be able to aim your rifle, which is realistic, but nothing more. I think most of us here agree, what you see as "fun" in BF1942 and BHD is exactly the things we don't want in OFP. It is the immature gameplay that keeps us away from the likes of counter-strike and blackhawk down. Keep OFP2 pure

OS = Operating System Operating System = Win98 / XP / NT / 2000 etc. You are the first player I've seen to have this problem on Windows98, congratulations. I looked into the issue further last night with the player from my server that has this issue. I ran DirectX diagnostics and Direct3D was actually disabled because of this problem. I do not a solution yet, if you have tried what I have suggested and it still has not resolved then format maybe be the only option. Regards,
-
Ummm, you don't need to format. Follow my instructions at least before you do that. If you have WindowsXP you can also roll back to a previous day or week. Seriously, if that doesn't work then fine, format but its a sh*tload of work rebuilding your OS.

W-Buffer is for people with crappy video cards who need to run 16-bit textures, it smoothes the textures as the textures are not designed for 16bit. In other words it knows better than you and has taken W-Buffer off you

This problem is not to do with your OFP or OFP Resistance. Do not change anything there. This is a problem players on my server have been getting recently, and I believe it ties in with some Windows OS updates. I experienced it after updating Media Player files and uninstalled these files to restore normal working order. I am still in the middle of assisting the players who are effected by this, one got this error after running Windows Update, so it is a bit harder to undo I think. Still working on it But anyway this is what I know so far: It is OS related, not game related. It is from a recent update or patch. It could be a DirectX 9/9.0b issue. It could be DirectX 9.0 related in conjunction with another update. Windows98 users do not seem to be affected by this error.

When using my Geforce2 I had colour at night, basically it just looked like daytime with reduced lighting. With a Geforce4, or another recent video card it treats night different and shows the scene more washed out and grey, as the human eye reacts this way to night time. It is supposed to be a realistic effect, it is not a bug. edit- Damn your lightning speed blackdog :P

"uninteresting" is very nice way to put it. I have other words in mind.. How do you get them to sit down like that? I'm assuming its a custom animation?
-
Uninstalled your NVIDIA drivers and then run a registry cleaner tool like Detonator Rip or something similar to clean any left over registry entries. Then reinstall the latest NVIDIA Geforce4 drivers. Re-run flashpoint preferences and let it auto detect settings. Start the game and see if it works. If it works, then you can go into Flashpoint preferences again and customise a bit.

I'll clarify what I meant by not working, as I accept it works in some instances. On a dedicated server, you cannot use the AI fastrope script, <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">CHOPPER exec "\BAS_mah60\FX\BAS_AIRope.sqs" But you've said as much in your PDF file. Is there a way the fire effects can be disabled for using the choppers in MP? I mean otherwise we have to set the respawn time to something rediculous to make sure the burning dies out before the vehicle is deleted. I have seen this code: <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">BAS_60Effects = 0 in your PDF file, will this cut all scripts running on the chopper, e.g if it crashes it can be respawned without crashing the client to desktop?
-
They work when hosting, thats why I was fooled for so long. They don't work on dedicated server though. The worst thing is since I update missions to include the blackhawks I now have constant crashing to desktop. This leads me to believe the heavy scripting these choppers feature is totally unsuitable for MP mode. As in a lot of missions the vehicles are required to respawn, and as you cannot delete vehicles that have a script running on them. e.g burning effects / smoke scripts and then the vehicle gets deleted to respawn and bang, crash to desktop. BAS aren't the only new addons to cause problems if used in MP, the new corsairs and P51 mustang I made into the same sort of mission as the BIS Camel dogfight, as they have quite a few scripts running on them also CTD are frequent. I really think addon makers need to pay a bit more attention to MP, and make specific instructions on how to disable scripts to allow stability in MP mode. It seems quite obvious to me that alot of these are geared too heavily towards SP.

It is the PUMA SA330 from Operation Frenchpoint, as soon as that unit was destroyed I gained 20fps. I will be removing it from the mission and all other missions pending a solution. As a sidenote I will be removing all BAS Blackhawks as introducing them has caused every single MP mission to crash to desktop. Not really acceptable.
-
I have confirmed the FPS issue. I have taken steps to reduce performance issues to minimum. I also unfortunately did not fully read the BAS Blackhawks PDF readme and was under the impression all the great features like rappeling and fast insertions would work in MP. So I will make 1 SP version and one for MP.

Ya if people want to thats fine, the cpp is open source and was left unbinarized. Sorry, I would not if even thought of editing your addon without permission. I would of only had the edited version for use on our Australian server. Our players get their addons by an automatic update tool which downloads and installs them. There would not of been an "alternate" version floating around the internet. In any case I am happy to wait for the ASLAV, so thanks, and once again nice work on the addon. Regards,
-
What do you reckon Fubar, wait for the ASLAV, the aussie one, or want me to edit this one for our server?
-
Ok cool, that is considerate of you to allow us to do that. We already have 100's of MB's of addons already and we won't need the crew as we'll be using Aussie units. Thankyou for your great addon work. Regards,

What time of the day were those taken blackdog?

@C 12 NightSearch on the Sarugao island. Designed for MP but playable by yourself. Can revive fallen members of your team, and they can revive you. (AI also revive you if you lucky). 12 Deltas inserted by blackhawk to search for a downed MH-47E crash site and it's crew. Story unfolds from there. Download from here addons required EditorUpdate102.pbo by Kegetys Operation Frenchpoint Air pack Operation Frenchpoint Weapons Pack Russian SF pack that includes GRU spetznaz and Russian Naval Infantry by Laser. BAS Deltas/Rangers BAS LilBird Pack BAS Blackhawks / JAM pack. BAS MH-47E MTLB Pack by Project Lavos USMC Symbols pack. BMD3 GFX707 Bunker pack. and I think thats it. Resistance 1.91 required.

Dragging wounded is a great idea, adds more realism, and much more opportunity for players to interact. Players who can't hit the enemy get bored so they teamkill, if you could interact in ways other than using your gun I think it would gun down teamkilling. You could also do what the germans did in Stalingrad which is drag the dead bodies around your position as sandbagging from enemy fire.

I'm looking at one of these for our Australian based OFP2 server: BL20P 3.06GHZ 2P-1GB Two Intel Xeon 3.06 GHz processor standard, up to 2 supported. 512-KB Level 2 writeback cache memory per processor. 1024-MB to 8-GB of 2-way interleaved capable PC2100 ECC DDR (2 X 256 MB) memory. Three Compaq NC7781 PCI-X Gigabit network adapters (embedded) 10/100/1000T with WOL and PXE. One additional 10/100T network adapter dedicated to Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) Advanced Management. Smart Array 5i Plus Controller integrated on system board. No hard drives ship standard. Up to 293.6-GB maximum internal storage with optional hard drives. No optical drives included. Plugs vertically into Compaq ProLiant BL p-Class Server Blade Enclosure. Dual Port Fibre Channel Card provides redundant SAN connection optional. I can get them for around $7000AUD should run two OFP 2 servers quote comfortabley with room for expansion. I buy servers at cost as I work closely with HP/Compaq but its still big dollars.

I like the idea of more interaction with the environment. e.g digging in etc. Currently a player feels they can only change what is around them by shooting it or blowing it up. To be able to change the environment with a shovel, or if you are laying in the bushe move the bushes aside a bit to give yourself a better view, it would greatly increase the player emersion in the environment. The thing is how to do it? The way I think of it is the * key on the numpad releases your head, allows you to look around. Why not a similar thing that releases your left and right arms? while laying down you could gently shift aside the bushes with your left and right arms. You could also use this while kneeling to draw in the dirt make a plan etc. Being able to push / pull objects aswell, you can tie this in with how you interact with other players. Dragging wounded to safety, 2 soldiers pushing their jeep into town to refuel Often you round around a corner straight into another player and there is no "impact" of the two bodies. Now the players themselves are supposed to be the most important element of the game, especially in multiplayer, however they have the most limited way to effect the environment, only with the gun. If you could knock a player on his ass and then shoot him your "player" becomes more physical, more real. You run around the corner, knock each other over first one to bring their gun up and get a shot off lives.

First you push the boundaries, then you work within them.

Yes yes everything's gay. Would terrain streaming still be "gay" if you could walk from one island into the next? Personally I'd like the idea of being able to take a boat from one island to the next or fly there. Some people just think too narrowminded and thankfully none of those people work for BIS. Anyway who knows what they will come up with.. could be something even better who knows.
-
With terrain streaming there are still limits but not in the same way. The limits would no longer lay in how much terrain BIS can let you walk around in. They could be now in how much BIS can actually make, how much will fit on the media. They are working on terrain streaming, so effectively if they are successful with this, its really how much terrain they can create. Or will it be random terrain generation? As it is the concept allows them to create multiple sections of terrain and allow you to move from one into the next, terrain behind you is cleared from the RAM/Video as new terrain is streamed. That is the concept anyway, brilliant idea and shows BIS are trying to bring you more bang for your buck. I would not whine about them spending time on the XBOX, it is the challenging limitations of the XBOX hardware that will allow them to develope the technology to blow your mind with OFP2.

The billboard is just one of the signs I have whipped up for a new island being made by players on our server. It is not currently available to download.
