  1. If any other site gets in problem with MGM they should join EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation) or CCC (Chaos Computer Club) in Germany. They will take the case to court and pay for it.

I see that ofp.info still has the news about the mod. I assume that they are on the list MGM will receive. So are they planning to fight it or are they just arrogant about the possible consequences?

  2. It sounds great but I hope that they're not just empty words. I'd really want to see ArmA getting some real publicity. ArmA being their first PC game is positive as they will probably give all to get a great start and make a name of themselves on the PC game market.

  3. @ Oct. 26 2006,22:07)]Could ofp.info get dragged into this too?

Most certainly.. I'm actually surprised that they haven't removed all the Stargate mod entries. This will get them in trouble.

    @Heatseeker

It's pointless to question whether it's justified or not. I am sure that the MGM lawyers knows their stuff enough to take you to court. As I said no normal person could afford such a thing. I'm quite sure that no lawyer would advice you to take it that far. So in the end you would be forced to pay MGM so they wont take you to court + that you would have to pay your lawyer fee. I suppose the total cost would be a few thousand dollars if you're lucky.

  4. I hope this is a reminder to everyone who's working with mods etc. which they don't have the rights to. Even if you might win the case (which I doubt) no normal person can afford to take the chance. There are lots of OFP mods which might cause problems for the news sites. Halo, Tiberian Sun and Starship Troopers are among few. I'd avoid posting anything about them.

MGM seems to be attacking all mods and sites which makes money by using their trademarks. It's not just OFP sites. It might seem harsh but there's nothing to argue about as they are right.

  5. The Cold War is over why are we still fighting the Russians in this game?  The Russians are our friends now.  My hope was that we would be fighting a realistic enemy and not another Russian faction.

We aren't fighting Russians.. We are fighting North Sahrani forces.

One more thing.. I wouldn't really call Russia a friend. They still prefer to go their own way.

I compiled a little comparison between ArmA and BF2. As you can see ArmA has a rough look but it's so much more than just the looks. It has a dept and vastness which no other game comes even close to. BF2 on otherhand has a sleezy and oiled look which is pretty much it is. It might be popular for a few months but then people move on to newer games.

  7. Senna was a amazing driver but he doesn't match up to Schumacher who has been consistant for such a long time.

Schumacher is easily the greatest driver in the history of F1 but he's also been the worst sportsman. The only thing that counted was that he won the race. How it was achived didn't matter at all. He has at several occasions endangered the lives of his combatants with insane moves on the tracks. He showed no respect for the others.

  8. I just thought of a thing that I haven't seen in any games but which exists in real life.. Streetnames and signs with the streetnames.

So it would be nice if they added them to ArmA if it's not too much work. Naming other things such as bays, straits, mountains etc would also be a nice feature. It would add more personality to the island.

  9. Stay on topic perhaps? Someone should create a special forum where people who wants to spam or go offtopic can gather. My guess is that it would become the worlds most visited site.

So to tie it back to the topic.. The latest screenshots looks great, especially the grass though it might suck if the grass disappears 15ft. from you. If the long grass will conceal the soldier then we might get some weird situations.

  10. I like how "SpongeBob SquarePants: Operation Krabby Patty" and a bunch of other worthless games rate higher than OFP.

    Just ask yourself..

How many people knows who SpongeBob SquarePants is and how many knows what Operation Flashpoint is?

    That might answer your question.

  11. The way I see it there is no differance between a battle recorder and an after action tool. Both tools would allow clans, squads and movie makers to reveiw and record the past action. Therfor giving the movie makers the option of staging, modding sets and making there movies.

The machinima side of gaming is growing rapidly, and a few of the gamers are now recognized as fine producers, StRuPiE and Little-Donkey have produced one of the best story lines and movies using the Battlefield Veitnam engine. Snoken has given us many a chuckle in BF2 with his Mine 1 & 2.

These movies when well produced can bring more new gamers to a game than is sometime given credit.

    <TFO>Gas

It would be a great feature but as people have posted it's not essential. You can make great movies without it. The mission editor is quite simple so you can stage the things you need without much effort. If you spend some time on learning about scripting then you can make quite impressive things without even involving any human players.
