  1. Fillrate enables you to render the game in a different resolution than your interface resolution. So if you play with 1360x768 pxl's resolution you can make the game render it at 2040x1152 (fillrate 150%) and scale it down which makes the edges less sharp. It's quite demanding though compared to AA.

  2. What did the last patch ruin exactly?

The aiming in the mini map that appears when you combine it the artillery module. You can't change the target. It's always stuck on the M270 so if you fire it will explode. It still works for mortars though.

There are several other module releated bugs with the latest patch but that's an other story.

  3. The latest patch seems to have turned it useless as the targeting system doesn't work anymore. It used to be a nice long range artillery when combined with the artillery module. Search for artillery module and you'll learn how to use it. Hopefully BIS will fix it with the next patch.

  4. What Ebud and others who support a slightly sluggish mouse responce are trying to say is that it doesn't come down to having lightning fast aiming but making sure you don't get yourself into situations where super human aiming is required.

The structure of the game and it's aiming system is different to other games. In normal games the projectile/bullet is spawned in the middle of the screen while in the BIS games it's a 'physical' objects coming out the direction your weapons model is aiming. In other words the mouse movement is very dependant of your frame rate. Your crosshair wont move unless the actual weapon model and soldier also moves. The solution is simply to make sure you run the game with a decent frame rate. Though don't expect it to ever be as responsive as games based on much more basic aiming systems.

  5. And why not the full game at version 1.96?

There's already a thread about it but to make it short, CM might not agree to that and if you really want it you can still buy it. The original demo on other hand can't be found anywhere. At least I can't find it.

Ah, yeah I've heard about it but I never use it. I guess I'm stuck with older search engines such as altavista. I found it in Australia.

  6. I don't care about the muzzle flashes in general but for the first person view your own muzzle flash could be way better. The more advanced the muzzle flashes are the more CPU/GPU you'll be using but with a system where only your own first person view muzzle flash is advanced you never have to render more than of them. Though this might be a bit more complicated to implement than it sounds.

  7. Considering the amount of hardware needed to run Arma 2 at max settings at 100% fillrate, I can only imagine what hardware you'd need to run at effectively 300% (100% per monitor) in terms of processing power... But yeah it does look awesome if your computer can pull it off.

Well, actually it's about 175% if I got it right. 200% fillrate means you'll render four times as many pixels.

  8. Thanks for the video Llauma. For thoose who have ArmA II and wan't to test it would be nice to know what AI settings you used in this test (both in X.ArmAProfile and skill slider in editor) and date as well as time of day in editor.

I have the feeling that people who experience "uber AI" plays with (to) high AI settings. Maybe some of you are used to high AI settings in OFP/ArmA but that doesn't mean it is a good/balanced setting for ArmA II?

However, since I'm still waiting for the 505 release I can be totally wrong!

    /KC

It's standard expert mode with a default guerilla group. Though the guerilla group doesn't have that high skill level by default.

While typing this I felt tempted to do another test with higher skill levels. Just as previously it's 7 AM at cristmas day 2008. This time I turned up the skill level to maximum and I let the squad pass me by so close that two soldiers passed 1 metre on each side of me. Still I managed to remain hidden.

  9. Whats so strange about it? Theres a plane to the west. Kinda poorly worded though, but unless they are going to be recording ten thousands sentences for every voice, thats how it tends to be.

There are speech synthesizers which sound better than that.. If you make an effort you can create more fluent sound files too. I expect something better than this from a professional developer. It's simply bad though for me it's just a minor part of the game and I'm not really bothered by it. If they have the same view on it as me then they could have implemented a speech synthesizer instead which would give us far more flexible dialogue posibillities.

  10. Saw Rommel's pix, are heli and fighter pilots still the same?

I never understood why they made pilots for the camel (in Arma 1) while the helicopter and fighter pilots were the same, strange priorities..

My guess is that the camel plane and the pilot were made by someone applying for a job at BIS. It was a way to show BIS what he could do. I could be wrong, though it would make sense.

And yes, the pilots are the same no matter aircraft.

  11. Hi all

As Maddmatt says it is up to the mission maker to decide on the relative AI skill levels combined with their rank.

So BF2_Trooper you as a mission designer can set those relative skill levels same as you can set the rank distribution, weapons and vehicles or any other factor including the field of battle.

    Kind Regards walker

Though by default the US and Russian squads have higher skill levels than 'guerilla' squads.

    Oh and one more thing..

Just a responce to everyone complaining about the AI..

What many people are asking for is impossible to achive. 20 years of hard research and probably close to a billion dollars spent by Honda has given us ASIMO, a robot with enough 'AI' to run and walk the stairs... Do I have to say more?

BIS has managed to create an unscripted AI superior to any other game I know of. It's not perfect, and definitely not anywhere near to human behaviour but that can only be found in fiction. At least for now.

  12. My first thought when I took my first steps in ArmA 2 was that it's like OFP. It's exactly what I hoped ArmA would be. Unfortunately ArmA failed quite miserably in many ways. ArmA 2 on second hand manages to deliver the spirit of OFP but with major technological improvements. Overall it's by far the best production by BIS. Some minor bugs and glitches can be expected in a pre-worldwide release. In case you've forgot OFP was way worse when it came to bugs and glitches before the first patch arrived. Remember the flying cars?

I haven't played much yet but this looks very promising. Finally we have a true heir to OFP.
