Basically what Denoir is trying to say (I think) is that you can be grateful towards individuals for the efforts, but collective gratitude (towards all veterans) no matter how the war went seems a bit iffy. If this is infact what he is saying, then I must agree. Translated to every day terms, if my company engages in an activity, tries its best but fails, then I wouldnt expect gratitude to be directed towards all employees. In fact, I would be insulted if my performance had been adequate, but everybody recieved the gratitude of management/clients/share holder even though some failed miserably, resulting in the over all project failing. As a soldier, who in a war managed to still do the job and be proffesional, I doubt I would look fondly on the fact that babykillers, junkies and total crackpots recieved the same respect and gratitude just because they were there. While, at the same time, someone who was working from back home and contributed more to the effort from behind a desk recieved no gratitude because he or she wasnt there.

The difference of course being that he cannot influence the Matrix movie by seeing it, but he CAN influence the military by being a part of it... More so than not being a part of it.

I think its a natural step for countries like America to have Veteran Day like traditions. Over the course of modern history, the US has been extremely involved with military actions. War, and soldiers, are a part of America more so than for example Sweden. In a country where most people know or have a relative in the military (or one that has served) it kinda makes sense.

I can imagine they are setting it all up for the massively multiplayer online game. Its in keeping with their attitude towards other media and its relations to the movies. The Wachowski brothers have all ready decided to be quite involved in the project, so I think it might not be totally unlikely.

I just always find it amusing that these lawsuits happen in America. Why? Because thats the only country you actually have a chance of pulling it off in AND stand to make quite a big buck from it. But when all is said and done, games dont kill people. Bad upbringing, unsound minds and weapons are the reason, not games or movies. I grew up with games like Commando Libya, I watched movies like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Rambo and The Warriors. I have yet to kill someone, or even come close to doing so. But, if I ever happen to kill someone, for whatever reason, can I then sue Rockstar? Well, I guess its an easy excuse if I ever pull an insanely stupid stunt... "The games made me do it!". Please...

Not really. You can buy game cards in stores, that give you a code you enter. Much like cell phone refill cards. They have, problem is, most companies wont go for it. Games is still not considered serious business by other industries, even if they basically match the revenue from the music and movie inudstry. Been suggested to many of the developers and providers. However, the greedy mofo's wont go for it. They get loads of cash any way.

"Did you vote yet? What price range is your max? Again, this is assuming it's a game you would really be interested in and the code, service and support is of good quality." Yeah, I voted. I could easily pay 10 bucks if I think the game is worth it. I think my pain limit would be around 10 - 15. "BTW, if I may ask, what games are you currently subscribing to and what is their rate?" Currently Planetside and Star Wars Galaxies, at around 12 bucks or so a piece. And I have subscribed to loads of other games, like Ultima Online, EverQuest, Asherons Call, Neocron, Anarachy Online, Earth and Beyond, Eve etc. To me, its pretty cheap if the game is good. I like the appeal of massive worlds, with thousands of gamers in them. Sure, I'd prefer them for free, but its a business, there is a cost to development, servers and admins. So, I can dish out the bucks as long as I am having fun. When I am not having fun anymore, I quit playing, cancel the account and check out the next game.
-
I am currently playing two pay for play games, so I guess I am willing. It all depends on the game and what it has to offer.

America has made itself a target. By sponsoring, and in fact keeping the Palestinians enemies in power, they of course become a target. Its not strange, nor even wrong seen from the Palestinian stand-point. It is in fact quite simple. If I have an enemy, and a third party is largely responsible for my enemies succes and livelyhood, I think I'd start targeting that third party as well at some point.

Of course he is A inventor. I never said he wasnt. But did he invent this spacelift thing? Or did he simply envision it? In my opinion, he is not the inventor of the spacelift, yet, as it doesnt exist.
-
As much as I like Arthur C Clarke... Can he really be called the inventor? As far as I know, it hasnt been invented yet, it doesnt exist. Its just an idea so far. Am I the inventor of something, because I first envisioned it possible? Or am I the inventor when I actually come up with a real solution that makes the vision possible?

"i dont c that unfair, i just want every country to allow n e religion to be practiced" Even better would be to not practice religion at all. Would spare us a lot of grief ;)
-
"in western countries, in fact in every country there are mosques" Well, thats what you get in a democratic, open society. Unfair? Maybe. But that is the way it is. Unless someone declares another crusade and we outlaw Islam in our societys, of course. But I doubt the church is strong enough to pull that one off.

"Do we know this for sure in Far Cry or are you speculating? Do you know of any articles/interviews concerning the AI?" I have met the developers, tried the game on tradeshows and played it at the office. They told me, that there are basically no scripted events. As far as I know, there is just one and its in the start of the game. The rest are handled with anchors, which the AI reacts to. And of course predetermined conditions and reactions programmed into the AI. But you will never see scripted events. Therefor, its unlikely that the game will for example play out the same way even if you play it multiple times.
-
"I think there was an AI-unit that walked from A to B then started a conversation with C. Do you really think that A walked to B all by itself? " Yeah, because thats exactly how it works. And the next time you play the level, he might go to location D or E, and talk to person F if he happens to be there. The AI is reacting to different triggers or anchors as they call them in their surroundings. And the actions chosen are based on several factors available to the AI, so it wont repeat the same actions again and again.
-
Well, so does the Cry engine AI. Since it reacts to its environments and not to predetermined events, it would actually do quite well on its own in any environment. The aspect of groupleaders and radio operators influencing the AI actions, together with the group casualty rate, only makes it all the more interesting.

Sad to see you go, Br. But you'll be back. I know it. Can't stay away from the charming and addictive personalities on this forum ;P

Actually, the first one WAS exclusive for Xbox under a certain time period, per agreement with Microsoft. When that time period ran out, it was of course ported to other versions.
-
Helps to keep the myth alive I guess.
-
The Cry engine is also in the race. Used for the game Far Cry. I am pretty sure its a modder and mapmakers dream engine, from what I have seen anyway.

Even if it isnt him, he should be friggin locked up. The guy is a total lunatic...
-
He has been arrested now, at a restaurant in Solna. According to Swedish newspapers anyway.
-
I am not sure, but I think they'll deny it until they formally charge him with a crime. As long as he is just a suspect, they probably dont want to openly accuse him that way. Maybe...

Move to Malmo, work in Copenhagen... Works for me
