    Surplus / bdu webshops?

Hello there I was wondering if anybody could recommend some good webshops for purchasing BDU pants. The thing is, there are some local shops where I live in Sweden, but the price is roughly double of that you'd see on your average webshop. Before purchasing anything, I'd like to find a webshop that has quality goods though. Any recommendations?

    Rifle scopes

Hey all you snipers and wannabes out there. I am doing some research into scopes, and could use some feedback by those in the now. I am interested in the field of digital scopes, in other words, scopes that portray an image of the target and not necesserily rely on the user having to look through the classic lense system, but a screen instead. Do these kind of scopes exist? If so, are they used and are they any good?

    Heavy Earthquake in Asia

Two guys at another forum I visit are helping out with tending for the wounded. They posted information for those that wish to donate money to the local Red Cross. I will post it here below. "Thai Red Cross Siam Commercial Bank - Red Cross Branch Acct: 045-248899-3 Swift: SICROTHBK Have your bank use the note section to note that the donation is for Relief in Phuket. We've got a few more volunteers on the way. The Thai Ministry of Health is the lead agency, and they are looking for volunteers, especially those who speak Italian, French or German. There is a shortage of medical supplies and storage facilities for bodies. All donations are appreciated." Truly tragic event.

    War Quotes/Sayings

Cobra, good quote there. "And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by from this day until the ending of the world but we in it shall be remembered. We few, we happy few, we band of brothers. For he today who sheds his blood with me shall be my brother. Be he ne'er so vile, this day shall gentle his condition, and gentlemen in England now abed shall think themselves acursed they were not here, and hold their manhoods cheap whilst any speaks, that fought with us upon St. Crispin's day!" Brother in Arms

No. I bought the game though and consider it the biggest waste of money ever in my gaming life. In this case, no, it isnt completely scripted. You can take multiple paths to an objective, but you are still forced to take the same route as the unit did in WW2. Meaning, you can choose to go left or right of certain obstacles, you can choose to go over a field or using hedges for cover. Its still rather limited though, but thats in the nature of things. Since its telling an actual event, it cant be the same freedom we enjoy in OFP (where you basically can attack an objective from any direction, and get there taking any road you want).

    Brother in Arms

Having played early versions of the game at various press events I can say I will easily buy it. The level of detail (when compared to reality that is, as in, real life locations) is unsurpased. The atmosphere is great. Its extremely fun to lead your two teams, and the interface is really easy and quick to use. Graphics wise, it looks great (played both PC and Xbox and I have no complaints in the graphics department). Sure, some of it is scripted, but since you follow actual historical events, thats no big suprise there.

Unpleasant implications for the gaming industry

This is a problem all ready. There are issues with Colt, for example, and rights to use weapons in game. I also know there have been issues with other brands before. In short, they want some of the dough. To put it in MTV generation terms... "SHOW ME THE MONEY!!!"

Hollywood version of battle for Fallujah

"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger." I guess its time to remind people why there is a war going on...

    Your Favourate MMORPG

The idea is that you dont have to give cash, but you can choose to invest however much you want. The idea is cool I think, I am just not sure about the company. There was some ruckus a while back about them using pirate software, getting sued, going bankrupt then opening up again. Not sure I want to give them my credit card number, you know...

Nothing beats it, when played in company with the right people (like most MP games I guess).

    Your Favourate MMORPG

Previously Played - Meridian 59, Ultima Online, Everquest, Shadowbane, Dark age of Camelot, Earth and Beyond, Eve, Asherons Call, Neocron, Anarchy Online, Currently Playing - Planetside Best MMO ever - Ultima Online I love MMO's, but hate the fact that you have to invest so much time. Thats why UO and PS are my all time favorites. Eve was very good to, but I never got hooked (I blaim my girlfriend for that).

    Gunmen take 200+ student hostages

LOL. Avon, how do you find all those odd references anyway? Are you the traffic controller of the Information Super Highway or something?

    Gunmen take 200+ student hostages

I heard that to, but this guy didnt mention anything about that in the statement I saw. I think he was refering to one of the ceiling bombs inside the school, all though I fail to see the connection between the medics and the bomb (except that it happened at the same time).

    Gunmen take 200+ student hostages

Not so sure I'd call it a rumor, its from a statement by Novaja Gazeta who was one of the key negotiators. His version is that a bomb went of by mistake when the two medics were collecting bodies. This triggered some hostages to escape and a brief fire fight between terrorists and police / military. The negotiators then managed to get the terrorists to sieze fire briefly, but parents intermingled with anti-terrorist units continued to fire. This lead the terrorists to believe that the negotiators were lying and they were being stormed. So they blew all charges, so to speak.

    Gunmen take 200+ student hostages

They might not have been able to avoid the final show down, but they sure as heck could have limited the carnage and chaos. Like Avon pointed out, the area should have been evacuated and sealed of day one. They failed to do this in three days! There shouldnt have been any civilians even remotely near the area, and definately not any armed civilians. Civilian aid workers or what not in stand-by, sure, but they were milling all over the place. Vehicles had access right up to the school. People were walking around, out of uniform, carrying AK-47's. Total chaos.

    Gunmen take 200+ student hostages

They had issued a list of demands, classified as top secret by the Russian government according to media. So until that list, if it exists, goes public I doubt we will ever know exactly what they hoped to achieve. Further more, according to terrorist(s) in custody, their leader had not informed them of the fact that they were going after kids. When one of them objected, he was shot. Now, if there is any truth to that is another matter. I am sure any surviving terrorists are pretty keen on saving their hide right about now.

    Name that piece of equipment...

It was a long time ago, I remember it as covering most of the upper arm though, and being attached to the shoulder flap somehow.

    Name that piece of equipment...

Ok, I am trying to figure out a specific piece of kit. I am fairly sure its used for only exercise and / or training. I have only seen it once, in a movie about the French Foreign Legion. Its a piece of cloth used as group/team/unit identification and its worn on the upper arm and attached to the strap on top of the shoulder usually used for rank insignias etc. When I saw it on the movie, it was plain red for one team and yellow for the other, no emblems or insignias. If anyone knows what such an armband is called, its common use and maybe has pictures, I'd be very happy.

    Name that piece of equipment...

Would depend on the exercise I guess. If it was an exercise about fire and movement, with two squads interacting, I can see the point. In the case of the documentary, I dont know why they did it exactly, it was never explained. But it was clear that the different colors signified two different squads or teams and the two groups moved in a coordinated fashion. They appeared to be extracting towards a couple of small boats on the shoreline while laying down fire across a beach area.

    Name that piece of equipment...

That could be it, yeah. Just searching for "armband" on google would have been the death of me though The documentary I saw it used in was one of those "elite forces of the world" productions usually shown on Discovery. I think it was used, at that time, for some kind of life fire exercise. Anyway, thanks Ran!

According to some media outlets civilians have joined in the gun fight. Looks like the Russians are in full control.... :/

    Gunmen take 200+ student hostages

They just need a couple of terrorists in gasmaks or bio/chem suits to get around that problem. As soon as he sees his friends starting to drop, he starts to push buttons... Game over. I dont think gas is an option this time. It worked last time because it was unexpected. This time, they could be prepared for it.
