    Xp and 1.55

same problem, "patched" the game with v1.55, and now trying to fire the v1.46 executable, and it just crashes right after blinking the Codemasters - logo. access violation, similar to the first post in this thread. same happens now with the ofpmptest.exe .. one way to get it to start is to reboot and then launch the game, works fine until you quit, and then come back later without booting in the middle. not running any virtual cd software, tried removing and reinstalling the cdrom drivers.. before v1.55, no problem whatsoever. weird. --fd

    1.46: frequent dedicated server crashes

funny. 2:48:54 Dedicated server created 2:48:59 Player connected (this was the time we restarted the server, the admin disconnected and while trying to reconnect as <nick> (2) FADE cut him down) .. last message is: 19:29:00 Reading mission ... 19:29:16 Mission read as in: almost 17 hours of play, no problems. before that restart, there'd been at least 10 hours of furious play with big coops and tdm's, version 1.46 .. win2k, 256mb mem, 1200 athlon. maxmsgsend 512, minbandwidth 1884160. no dynamic range sound addon on the server.

3rd person shooting bug still exists

on our server we specifically disabled crosshair and 3rd person view, there's no use in a leader seeing over hilltops or outside houses he's in. cheating in my book. and if you come across an enemy grunt, in point blank range, you switch to burst / automatic, and let out short bursts, watch the tracers, and move your "aim" accordingly, until there is no enemy, but peace! :) with the m60 / pk it's a treat, you just run towards the bastard and let go. mämämämämmmäts. --fd

I can't connect to mp game get lost session

why would you change MTU on a 100mb lan? :) Well anyway, try to get your comp back to the state it was before playing around with the MTUs and such. And yes, ICS is a killer for OFP. Any other firewall software you just installed? .. --fd

    Stupid question

just go between the two "thingies" at the end of the crawl wire thing, as in just continue in the same direction you were going with the whole course. not once but twice i've been demonstrating the first training mission to my friends and FAILED it (timeout) .. :) but one learns, eh?

    Dedicated server error with v1.4

truly sorry, all. especially Suma. just got used to the easy zip files from the earlier patches. just now found that "server" directory the ofp_server.exe resided in. not a good call, imho, but the main fact is this: 01:52 <fd_FinP> korsumajuri, heitä kasa.armeija.org 01:52 <KorsuMajuri> =FinP= Dedicated server amd1200tb 2320/2320sdsl on 192.168.1... | Driven at Kolgujev | Map loaded  | PUBLIC | 3/24 | v140

    Dedicated server error with v1.4

Didn't help. I downloaded the v1.40 server executable after upgrading v1.40. The server is now up with operationflashpoint.exe -server, but if a restart is due, then it wants a CD every time. Not good. As said before, the error message is: No entry 'resource.bin::RscInGameUI::RscHint::Background.size'. --fd

several bugs playing missions on dedicated server

-- bump -- some of the best maps we've played while hosting games don't work now that we built a dedicated server. and true, the radio-code triggers just don't unlock waypoints while playing on a dedi. while hosting the same map normally, they work a-ok. you can trigger the radiocode normally, but it just doesn't affect the waypoint in any way. Seems like there's an issue with certain triggers. another example: in one map, there's a grenade raid, which you can escape by going into a bunker (somehow built so that there's no charges inside the bunker) .. but on the dediserver, people die every time to an explosion in the bunker. every time. while hosting the mission from the multiplayer menu? no problems whatsoever. i've noticed these things while using the v1.30 ofp_server.exe, can't say much about the earlier versions, wasn't playing around with the dedi exe much before this one. --fd

    Multiplayer user defined markers

spinor, thought of that too, read about it on the same tutorial i guess.. thanks for your guess tho, could perhaps give it a go. anyone else? ;)
  13. Howdy, Could someone please tell me the names of user defined markers in multiplayer, and how do they differ? (east, west, civ, guer) .. made a A&D map, no respawns, and it would rock hard to be able to use the map, doubleclick on a spot and inform the squad of something.. but the problem resides.. if i put a marker in there, write text "let's attack from here", the other side can see it too. they'll just put a marker next to it telling "yeah right :)" and i can see that marker also. what's wrong ? .. i saw this done on at least ofpleague.com official TDM maps, user markers are not "broadcasted" on both sides.. i've got as far as hidden the in-game markers with the init.sqs thingy, and it works. just need the info on what are the markers called in multiplayer? .. in single player someone said in a tutorial, that they are _USER_DEFINED_X/X (or something like that), but they were quick to mention that they don't work in multiplayer. anyone have a clue ? (i've asked half the world so far, and zippo. nada. :P) thank for any help.

    time

a cool thought there, thank you :) just a thought: why not just make a loop in a script, like this: #loop ~300; skiptime .5; goto "loop"; <end of file> this would then wait for 300 seconds (5 minutes) and then skip half an hour, and continue to wait yet another 500 seconds etc. save this as "skiptime.sqs", and put it on the activation field of one of the units that you know will be in the game? Just a suggestion, thanks for the great idea. :) --fd PS. Wouldn't this be kind of cool for a player in the game: Reload M16 magazine Weapon Binoculars Stop time ;) <edit: smilies off, they suck> (Edited by LAW Soldier fd at 6:46 am on Nov. 17, 2001)

    Lag while hosting

I'd suggest getting more RAM .. 128megs is not that much anymore, even if it's DDR. I remember someone telling me that a moderate-size game (5-10 clients), depending on the mission, would eat about 90 megs of RAM, and if you count in Win2000, it's getting tight in there. And with the v1.27, seems like the dediservers hog memory and won't release it, someone complained that in two days from starting it, a dedi would be eating up as much as 300 megs of memory alltho there was noone playing at that given moment he looked up mem usage. (Edit: sorry, he was talking about v1.26b, just looked it up, v1.27 seems "ok" with mem usage) I'm going to build a win-dedi as soon as christmas is done with, thought of an amd 1.4g with 512mem. that should do it. -fd (Edited by LAW Soldier fd at 5:31 am on Oct. 25, 2001)

    Lag while hosting

So, this past week we've had some cool multiplayer games. With the DSL, I've hosted succesfully games with up to 12 people simultaneously online. Ping-times are within limits, everything seems fine.. except my framerate. It's 2-4. My mouse is jumpy, it's impossible to target anyone, or even dream about hitting someone who's on the move (well, crawling maybe) .. Then I joined an MP game with 10 people, on a different server, and BOOM, framerate back to normal. That's why I'm trying to get a dedicated serv up.. so I could actually enjoy the games I'm honored to be hosting. Anyone else have this problem, or should I dig? -fd

    Lag while hosting

This is what I've been witnessing, just thought there'd be some magic "workaround", coz we all know that there are games that don't bog with multiple clients aboard. But then again, a dedicated server would be rock cool wouldn't it? ;) .. just seems like a waste o money to buy FPS after getting the 1400mhz and a geforce2 along with it :P hoped that the need for update / extra acquisitions wouldn't come anytime soon, but here we are. :)

    Lag while hosting

It's not the network bandwidth I'm worried about, like said, when I'm running a dediserver on the same machine that gets stuck while hosting a "big" game, noone complains about anything. But when I'm hosting a game thru the multiplayer menu, my framerate is eaten alive. Does updating positions and happenings to clients really eat that much CPU? Ah well.

*bump* I'd really love to know if there's hope, or is one forced to invest in another 1.4ghz amd machine. sounds expensive, when there's dozens of MP games out there that can host 32 without breaking a sweat. and i happen to like ofp " a lo' ".

anyone have problems too with v1.27 standalone server?

my ofp dedi crashes with the message dp-> <something something INVALIDDEVICEADDRESS <something> can't remember :) about 30-60minutes, sometimes maybe more. this has been discussed in other forums, please search for keywords before posting :)

How do you play multiplayer games?

over the internet, with an SDSL 2.3megs both ways. In our squad, we got a lot of ADSL 512/256 people, and due to mostly bandwidth reasons, I'm the one hosting games. Tried it on LAN, and found no problems with lag or other "major" issues. I'd like a dediserver, because once there's more than 8 people aboard my game, my game suffers a great deal due to low framerate and a jumpy mouse. The netcode cannot demand so much. It just can't. :P amd 1400mhz, 512mem, geforce2.. But that's another topic. I use Kegetys's OFPLauncher.exe, which is an excellent tool to join games residing at IP addresses. Skips the splash screens etc. I warmly recommend it to everybody. Here's the link: http://koti.mbnet.fi/kegetys/flashpoint/tiedostot/OFP%20launcher.zip I too have sometimes noticed the circling-vehicle thing, but nowadays it's very rare. Being aboard jeeps or tanks, no problem.

DSL? .. SDSL 2320/2320, 241kb/s both ways. When I run the dedicated server, it runs like a peach, noone complains about lag then.

Sorry, completely forgot: AMD tb 1.4ghz 512mem geforce2, 32mb mem win2000 newest detonators, via4in1 installed odd. :P (Edit: sorry about my word usage, I meant to say SDSL 2.3megs both up/down stream, but didn't know I was gonna get s**it from people when using just the word DSL) I get about 241k/sec both up and down.
