I don't use DVD anymore. God bless beta patches. :D The question is, will we need DVD when 1.05 final is out?

ARMA II Beta Builds Released: Latest version/build: 1.04.6xxxx
kernriver replied to mattxr's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
East bound and down by Jerry Reed? Oh yeah, put the pedal to the metal! :D I agree, driving is much better now. -
I partly agree. If I never played any of BIS games and tried, lets say, ArmA2 demo, well...I don't know what my reaction would be, maybe I would've hated it (I probably would :p) But, it was the demo (OFP:CWC) that caught my attention to BIS games in the first place. To make long story short, CM made a big mistake making this game. Why? Expectations are high when you see that sequel to OFP is being made, and by any logic you expect that 2009. title beats the one that was made 8 years ago, and claims to be the sequel of. Well, it doesn't, not by a long shot. Anyway, glad to see you on these forums, Colt45_GTO. :) Yes, there is. Options - Keyboard setup - Advanced. It's on the bottom of the screen, or you can push F1. I had some trouble finding it myself too. ;) EDIT I'm not saying DR is a bad game, I didn't play full game, so I don't wanna bash it. I don't care that much for graphics, DR gfx is good enough for me. Gameplay, that's a different story. I played through demo mission without the fear of dying. Anyone remember Ambush mission? (CWC demo). When I played it for the first time, I died a lot. Then I mend my foolish ways, started crawling and taking cover. Bottom line: there is no fear of dying in DR.

I've just tried DR demo. Errr, it's "polished" and "smooth". @ RaXz Don't bother.... I somehow knew that I was right on the money when I saved my money not buying this...no pun intended. Yeah, right :p I'm just glad I have Steam account already, on account of downloading L4D demo sometime ago...come to think of it, maybe I'll try L4D2 demo now, it must be more fun than DR
-
OFFTOPIC Glad you mentioned good old Serious Sam, Luhgnut. Croteam is making a remake, Serious Sam HD: The first encounter, in their new engine (Serious Engine 3). You can even preorder it on Steam, so I guess it's almost finished. :) ONTOPIC I'm not waiting anymore for DR demo, if it ever comes out. I'll spend my money somewhere else (Serious Sam HD comes to mind :D)

Here's my dilemma: 1. I want to try the demo to see if I like the game, despite of all the negative feedback 2. I don't wanna buy it, because of all the negative feedback 3. I don't wanna pir...te it, it's not worth the bandwidth What the Sam Hill's going on? Where's the demo? Hey, I know, I will play some more A2 instead...and there's always good ole Swat 4, Hidden & dangerous 2, Raven Shield etc. The ones that made the decision to stick with BIS, made the right one.

Any news on Dragon rising PC demo? Don't laugh at me, please.

Artifacts graphical buggs? maybe it's our PSU
kernriver replied to Varry's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
If that was aimed at me, thanks for the hint, RogueBlade. You do know that the hole in my wallet will be as wide as the Grand canyon after purchasing that? :D But i guess it's worth it, no sense in playing ArmA 2 with quite decent GFX card underclocked. ;) -
Artifacts graphical buggs? maybe it's our PSU
kernriver replied to Varry's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Thanks for the feedback, PJ. Just one more thing i forgot to mention. On the GFX-card box it says: POWER SUPPLY ADVISORY Minimum power supply - 550W Recommended power supply - non-SLI 630W or greater, SLI 680W or greater TBH, I read that when I got the card, but foolishly neglected it. Guess it's time for new PSU then. :D Which one would you guys recommend: OCZ, Corsair, Thermaltake, Chieftec, Fortron...? I'm thinking of getting one with atleast 700W, just to be on the safe side. -
Will my PC Run this? What CPU/GPU to get? What settings? System Specifications.
kernriver replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Hi guys, I need your help again. My rig: CPU: AMD 4600+ @2.4 GHz MB: Gigabyte 590sli GFX: nVidia GTX 275, 896 MB PSU: Chieftek 550W I recently bought above mentioned GFX card. I installed it and everything was good untill I started to get freezes (in ArmA2) for ~10 seconds or so, and after that there were artifacts on the screen, every time different ones: sometimes I get almost completely white screen, the other time trees have odd colors etc. So I thought there was something wrong with VRAM. Just to mention, I also bought new CPU (AMD 6000+ @ 3,1 GHz), and thought that new CPU coupled with new GFX card is too much for the PSU. I removed it and installed the old CPU. Same thing happened, artifacts and all. Then I installed EVGA precision and downclocked (underclocked ?) GFX for about 5% (GPU, memory, shaders), crancked up fan speed to 60%, and guess what, everything is working perfectly (GPU temp ~70C). Note that I tried with 60% fan speed on default GFX speeds, and I still got artifacts, so my conclusion is it's not happening because of card overheating. To make long story short: Is my PSU too weak? If so, could you guys recommend one that would be able to support both 6000+ and GTX275 at the same time? Thanks. ---------- Post added at 10:49 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:46 AM ---------- EDIT: Guess I should have posted this in troubleshooting section :o -
All this info on DR is pretty disheartening. Some time ago I was sure I would buy it, but now... I will still try PC demo, just to see how the game works over Leaf networks (for coop). From the looks of it right now, it's one more game that had the chance to be something with more ambition and scope than average shooter, but failed at it. It's CM's fault, they wanted to make "game-that-would-appeal-to-any-crowd" type of game, but I'm afraid it doesn't work that way. :( OFFTOPIC: IMHO, if BIS could somehow successfully port ArmA2 or Operation Arrowhaed to consoles (xbox360), they would rule the industry for a very long time... *sigh*
-
Exactly my thoughts BogdanM, You even stole my conspiracy theory. :D That's why I'm not buying DR before trying the demo. I will wait for the demo as long as it takes, not that DR interests me very much...I'll try it just for the heck of it. And then only if I like it as close as I love ArmA2, I'll buy it. Not much sense in buying something you don't like when you have so much fun with another game already, is there? ;) To be blunt, dispute over Operation Flashpoint name doesn't bother me that much, as much as I like BIS. What interests me, however, is making up my own mind. EDIT: Hm, or do you say: making up my mind on my own?
-
@ Ryujin I know You're comparing features, but without actually playing DR, I think the comparison is somewhat, well...futile. Not meant as a flame, I see You post in very positive and polite manner. :) Anyway, I will make up my own mind whether to buy DR or not when (PC) demo comes out. @Everyone What's all the fuss "demo coming out after release date" about? As if you all bougt every game you own right on release date. :D I did that only with three games: OFP, ArmA, Arma 2. :p ;)

Nothing else to add really...

ARMA II Beta Builds Released: Latest version/build: 1.04.6xxxx
kernriver replied to mattxr's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
I've tried beta patch for one reason only: to test "mouse lag" issue, 'cause it did trouble me a bit. Adjusting x axis and smoothing settings in controls options gets rid of it, it's perfect. I've finally got optimum mouse responce. Way to go BIS! -
How many of you old OFP Veterans are still playing BIS games?
kernriver replied to nettrucker's topic in BOHEMIA INTERACTIVE - GENERAL
nettrucker, don't let join dates deceive You. ;) Many of us played OFP since the demo (july 2001?), including me. At the time I was totally unaware of BIS forums, *not to mention that I didn't even have internet connection back then (playing MP coop over LAN with my brother). It's been awsome 8 years playing OFP/ArmA/ArmA2... Of course, I've played other tactical shooters, in fact, Hidden & dangerous 2, Swat 4 and Rainbow six 3 are always installed on my PC (now when I think of it, I have to install Ghost recon w/expansions too :D) Never stopped playing BIS' games, never will. *EDIT: LOL was that a rhyme? I'm just listening to Hank Williams, he must've inspired me...:p -

Don't start ArmA2 from beta folder, use the beta shortcut in ArmA root directory. Hope this helps. -
ARMA II Beta Builds Released: Latest version/build: 1.04.6xxxx
kernriver replied to mattxr's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
Thanks Bulldogs and JuggernautOfWar, I've figured it out on my own. What's confusing (atleast to me :p) is this: My target line was: "F:\ArmA 2\beta\arma2.exe" -nosplash When I start the game, I can see the version number is 1.03.59025, which would imply that I am running the latest beta patch. But I don't have "smoothing" slider under controls options. However, when I change my target line to: "F:\ArmA 2\beta\arma2.exe" -nosplash -mod=beta, sure enough there is "smoothing" slider. And the version number is 1.03.59025. So, same version numbers, but lack of "smoothing" feature in first example. Is it because game is running from beta folder, so it shows beta version number no matter what? I'm puzzeled, and maybe a little thick too. :p Anyway, thanks for helping me. -
Well, I agree with You, froggyluv. Leaning is very important feature, and in my eyes it isn't an exploit at all. I couldn't play, for example, Raven shield (oh, ArmA too ;)), if it wasn't in, because it saved my butt countless times.:D I don't wanna go into discussion if leaning in games is portrayed in realistic manner (it isn't IMO, it's just a substitute for RL "peaking", or whatever it's called). I don't know why CM left it out, maybe because Dragon Rising (on PC) is, in essence, (again IMO) a console port? How many console shooters have leaning? I don't play on consoles, so I wouldn't know, but AFAIK they all have some kind of "cover system" implemented, and I sure hope CM reconsiders putting some kind of leaning in DR. I know it's pretty pointless to gripe about a game that I didn't even play, but if it lacks a feature that's commonly inplemented in today's shooters, I think it has to be addressed. To sum this up, and I'm in no way defending CM, if leaning isn't in the game, but gameplay turns out to be good, there's no damage done, I'll play it (after I've tried the demo).
-
Just to clarify, lack of JIP is not a problem for me if we talk about campaign coop, because I aim to play it with friends over virtual LAN (Leaf networks) anyway. Playing (stock/user-made) coop/PvP missions over net is another thing, as Max Power, MehMan and DM pointed out. This question comes to mind: does PvP MP have join in progress? Another thing: lean. Since, to my knowledge, there are no big towns in DR, I can live without it, although it's a standard feature in tactical shooters. I've said it a few times already, I will decide whether to buy DR or not based on the demo (if there will be one).

Great movie, but i'm biased because i love SF.

I can't find it in control options. Is it a slider or just a check box, or...? Running the latest beta v.59025 Thanks
