    Air race multiplayer

Did a search that came up dry, but I've been looking for a mission that is basically a race around an island, in helos preferably, where you need to fly a certain course, over towns in a specific order, and are not allowed to exceed a given altitude. Â Something like 20-25m AGL or something, to make it a really challenging low-level race, where trees are your enemy. Â Anyone know if something like this has been made? Â Might even need to clock in, in every town, requiring you to land and go to a certain spot, before taking off again. Like Cannonball Run Thanks, Konyak
  2. Yeah, I reinstalled the whole thing again, and the grenade sound in original BIS missions don't work. Â Everything else seems fine. Â I just skipped installing the Navy and Ryan models, since the non included readme said that it wasn't to be used in Multiplayer ( !! ) I also downloaded all the files that the WGL Cti links said to, but since there's no readme to direct people where to precicely put all these files, the AI in CTI don't do anything after respawning. Â The way I did it was I made a modfolder called @zeusCTI and put all the CTI files into that in an addons folder, and the actual Trinity CTI mission PBO into the root MPMissions folder of my OFP installation. Â That's the only way it would show up in MP. Another not such a good idea?
  3. I just downloaded everything WGL today, and installed it into one mod folder. Â When I launch it, takes awhile, but I get no errors and everything seems to be working fine, except I don't hear the grenades explode. Â Anyone else getting this bug? I haven't really had much time to try the whole mod out though, it looks really good, allthough I expected it to be harder to drop the enemies, since one is now able to survive some hits. Â In Clean Sweep, Â the silenced XML was killing the russians like before, in fact they died so fast, they didn't even bother to animate themselves falling down:) Â One moment, running, the next, chewing dirt. Look forward to trying this out with the guys on Tuesday night lan night. Â We'd like to try out the WGL Cti, but so far I'm not sure if I've got all the files needed for that. Â All those WGL Islands in the pack, and I don't think I can play Cti on them, am I right? Thanks for the update, any hints on the grenade sound would be appreciated. Â As I said, I put everything in one modfolder, Ryans units, Navy, all that, all the islands into the addons folder under @wgl5 Â Oh also, I clicked on the "install_win2k_xp.exe" file in the root of the modfolder, thinking I needed to do that, and it only installed the Llauma sky pack, which I didn't want. Â It never tells you what it's for. Konyak

    Armed Assault videos

At the end of the Arma-Montage video, we see the paratrooper hanging dead in his harness, eye shot out. Does this mean we can be shot during a jump? God knows the AI in OFP tried to get me in the parachute, but as they never got me and as far as I recall, it's impossible in OFP. Anyone try this yet?

I meant it's the easy part IF you got good photos to work from, as most of the hassle that arises in blending is when there's color mismatch or bad angles, strong shadows.. stuff like that. I'm going to have to try that color channel route, as photoshop gives you 100 ways of accomplishing the same thing, and you never know the best one till you try them all  As for the flash, I'm betting most will not have such a fancy flash, so the overcast day shooting is fairly accessable to most outside of Spitzbergen.  Another trick is to put a diffuser in front of the flash, something like plexiglass that has been scuffed with heavy sandpaper, or even just baking paper.  Try using many layers until it creates that soft light effect. Going to stop before Placebo sobers up from the celebrations and notices this derailment Â

Ok, nice, but if you are aiming through the scope, wouldn't your eye be closer, and you wouldn't see all that much around? Â I have not received military training, nor am I American, so perhaps this is the correct way of aiming, so you don't get hit in the eye by recoil? Just wundering.. This is a CBQ aiming technique using the reflex sight. In CBQ you need to see whats going on in the areas around you. Usually it is used clearing rooms and houses. You can get closer to the sight, I have seen it in some videos. Improves capabilities and realism. Thanks for clearing that up guys, can't wait to see how that works in game. Â Especially if you can use the sights like this, and then bring it completely up to the eye for that BAS M4 action. Â @ everyone who's planning to put their face into the texture map that was released, Â don't use a photo of yourself taken with a flash! 1. Go outside on a bright but cloudy day, (not direct sunlight! ) and have a friend take 4 pics of your head. Â Front, left, back and right. 2. Stand still, facing the sun, so that you don't have uneven shadows on your face or strong shadows. 3. Have your friend walk around you and take the photos 90 degrees X and Y. Â For best results, have him go as far away from you as possible and zoom in. Â This gives your head a more "plan-view" without the effect of perspective that a wide angle lens gives you. Â 4. If possible use a manual setting on the camera, so that you can fix the exposure and white balance to stay the same. Â This will ensure that the skin tone will have the same color, and the brigtness will remain the same as well. 5. Use the same settings for the hands and feet (!! ) This will make your work ALOT easier and more realistic. Consider this step 90% of getting a good texture. Â Arranging these onto the template is the easy part.

    Ded server and BAS Tonal

Thanks Zerg. I've decided that I've got too many addons, and there's too many addons creating dependencies. I had 1.4 gig's in the Addon's folder alone. I'm going to do a fresh install, and try to set things up with only the choice addons that behave properly, and try to utilize mod folders. When I'm getting missing addon:Bas_opfor on Soft Landing coop mission on Kolgujev, things are not right in the state of Denmark. BTW, New rule for me, addons that require downloading a myriad of units or their versions of weapons, get deleted, unless the its something like FinMod or BWMod. Thanks for the help all.

    Ded server and BAS Tonal

I got a dedicated server finally, running winxp, and the standard server.cfg that came with the server download. Â I have yet to find a good place that explains the ins and out of that config. Â Anyway, I installed everything on the server, and the OFP folders are identical on the client machines and on the server. Â Yet when I choose any mission on BAS Tonal, it just snaps back to the missions menu. Â It used to give me the BAS_opfor dependency bug window, but I patched the folders with Patch2, which got rid on the bug, but as I said, it wont launch. Any ideas? Â A config thing? Also, while I'm at it, I downloaded the BwCti_DVD pack, and there are no readme's in the entire 200 + MB download, and all the forums are in german.. Â Can anyone point out how to install it in the right folders and get the server to launch it properly? Much thankee.. ! Konyak

    Ded server and BAS Tonal

Thanks WMR, I found that after I patched the Tonal isle with the 2nd patch, it had stopped working even on the client machine. I reinstalled BAS_Opfor and didn't patch anything, and now it works on the server as well. Now the remaining issue is that I can't start MF-CTI 1.16 Everon.. It insists that there is a missing addon: Soundlddk I found that addon, had it all along and I have it in Addons, and Res/Addons as well as in the Addons in the @cr modfolder.. always that same message though Any ideas?

    Ded server and BAS Tonal

Ok, I'll do that, but kinda doubt that's the problem, because after I installed the basic OFP directory and patched it up toe 1.96 I simply copied the complete OFP folder from my client machine over, making them identical. Unless some Bas stuff get's set up in other directories than the OFP one, it should work. My suspicion was that I needed to define something in the server config for it to accept the island or mission. Do I need to do that? We're currently just having admin pick missions manually and that's all we want to do so I didn't think I needed to mess with the config at all.

    Normal Ping on small LAN

Hi, Quick question: Just invested in a gigabit switch and NIC's + cables, and have a 4 computer lan once a week. I thought it would decrease the stuttering that we get in CTI and larger missions (BAS stuff) and I found it hasn't changed a thing I also thought it was odd that between two machines, we see up to 20 in ping. So my question is, is that a normal ping on such a fast network, and also, should I be using sockets or Directplay when we start a game? Note: We aren't running a dedicated server, just host on the fastest comp on the lan: 2.53ghz P4 1gig mem. Seriously thinking about returning all the gig-network stuff cause I was getting about the same ping on the 100 base net I had. Thanks for the advise that will follow bountifully

    Normal Ping on small LAN

Ok guys, thanks for that. One final thing, can one computer that is slower (less ram for instance) than the other computers, slow the game down for everyone, even though it's got a good connection? Or will that result in a desynch and not make the other comps stutter?

Can anyone provide a link to a working .rar file with these islands? I've downloaded three times now, the 85 mb from the link in the original post and it always says there is an error in the rar file Also, it says it's downloading 84.5 mb, but file on computer is 88.982 mb. Thanks Konyak

    Y2K3 Version 7.3

Hey Pappy, this update looks great! One question, how do I know what version of Y2K3 I have now? I found no readme with a version number, but I downloaded it in full from your site probably in the end of October. Would that have been version 6? I just don't want to download a 200 meg patch if it's not gonna do it for me. Konyak

    Iceland Demo

Just out of curiosity, why is it called Iceland? Â Anyone will tell you it's rather unique looking in every respect and shares nothing with the standard OFP textures and buildings. I think the only thing similar is the Skoda and Zetor tractor Not complaining or anything, but I'd just like to see it look like Iceland if it's supposed to be here. Â Most houses are reinforced concrete with colorful corrugated iron roofs, some houses are timber but with corrugated iron siding. Â None are true brick houses and tiles would blow away in the wind:) If you want textures, I can easily go snap pics of the typical house and ground (moss, lava, whatever) and the shrubbery is also rather unique as it's a mix of wind- and cold tortured little "trees" And evergreens. Where land meets water is either high bird-shit cliffs, basalt rock or black sand. Lava/Moss landscape from air Shack In other words, to make it look like here, you're going to have to make new ground textures, and make new house models and textures and pretty much everything, new trees, and all that. Â Was planning on doing just that one of these days, when the Pitts S2e is done. Konyak

    Falcon 4

FS2004 is getting a little flak for being boring, understandable if you want to shoot stuff.  But if you are getting the simulator to master flying in it's many levels, FS2004 is far from boring when you: 1. Get yourself real IFR and VFR maps of your local airports, and try to perform perfect touch and go's in correct traffic patterns. 1.b:  Add the possibility of engine failure anytime in the next 30 minutes and you'll keep your senses focused on the perfect reaction to losing the engine(s) 2. Set visibility to absolute zero, complete cloud cover and rain, and tune in the correct frequencies for the local Instrument Landing System for that runway and fly 5nm out and come back and land using only the IFR chart and instruments.. highly rewarding 3. Do extreme cross wind touch and go's. 4. Land a 747 on Hong Kong's old East runway, the one over the city on a left hand approach... You'll see why they built the new airport  5. Find the smallest lake you can land and take off from in the float planes, more fun if they have steep hills around them.. There's endless stuff to keep you busy, but you need to read up on stuff, it's all in there, and you'll end up with some real knowledge of aviation. I still look for F4 though, every time I'm in a big computer store abroad.. not seen it yet. Konyak

    Iwo Jima

Talk about de-railing a topic and flame bating.. Â how this guy ever made it to moderator status is breathtaking.. Â Is that some kind of joke Ralph? Â Or just another insight into the mind of a liberal? Â One name for you: Robert C. Byrd, and a little history: Now on topic: I suggested reading a few books about propaganda in WWII, especially in Britain, and the total censorship of the BBC by the government. For every time they stopped something, or changed some info, there was behind it a very good reason, be it to stop them from giving away valuable information to the enemy, or to give them wrong information. Â Both very good reasons that I for one, do not trust todays media to be able to control themselves with. Â Today we marvel at the resolve and unity that kept the British fighting, coordinated efforts that fascinate me, such as removing all roadsigns so that invading forces would get lost. Â These things need to be organized and controlled, and the people need to be encouraged to stay the course. Problem is there needs to be a lot of trust between the people and the government, and that is really where the media steps in. Â They can create that trust or they can take it away. Â We see it all the time. Â Denoir speaks of a respectable news media that strives to deliver accurate and unbiased news. Â I'd like to know if he thinks such a news agency exists today, and if so, which one? Furthermore, would you rather have such a media, that is unbiased, or would you rather have outspoken biased coverage, such as Fox or CNN? Konyak

    Iwo Jima

I can't get past this idea many posters here have exhibited. They maintain that the media doesn't have enough influence to win or lose a war. Most people here have very strong opinions about a war that they have never been in, in a place they haven't been too, against an enemy they haven't been touched by. Everything they know about this war comes to them from the media of their choice. You going to sit there and say that the media has no power over you? Those of you who speak of being sheep and eating up what the government tells us.. how are you any better if you are simply eating up what the media tells you? Oh yeah, you can choose which ones you tend to aggree with, and you can read all of them and try to find the underlying truth, but you will always be influenced at some level. Let's try something. Most of you seem to want a free media, as is to be expected. What is the price of that? If we expect our media to carry on the glory of Woodward and Bernstein, and expose any misconduct in our governments, and we want up to the minute coverage of what our soldiers are doing in wars fought in our names. We also don't want the government to censor or feed the media false information. Right? Considering this, how would you answer the following statment with a yes or no answer? A massive military operation such as D-day could be executed in the year 2005 against an enemy such as the Germans were, with similar results. (Don't turn this into a techology thing) If you are not sure, I suggest you go to your bookstore or library and find some books on WWII propaganda in US and Great Britain, and the government control of the media back then, and then consider the question again. And this brings us to the reason Mr. Miller wrote his little article, which I enjoyed, allthough I feel it could have been done much better. Konyak

New US Army Heat-Ray in Iraq

Sorry, I couldn't resist with all this talk about tin foil and mylar, had to whip up my mental image of the insurgents we'll see next year   I think people who are overreacting to this gun need to try and imagine this the other way around.  Let's say all guns up until now were heat-rays, and the army started to develop a hand held device that could propel a sharp piece of metal out of it so fast that it would tear right through your opponent leaving him fatally wounded..  you'd be pretty outraged then  Konyak
