RHS releases: Naval Infantry/Spetsnaz Pack v1.00
stevevcb replied to Shadow NX's topic in ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I say! Crikey! Gadzooks! Gosh, etc. etc. Pleasant surprise -
I tend to re-arm units in the editor anyway, so I'd prefer it if they were BIS-armed. Means I don't have to download something I don't even want.
-
The new shirt looks ten times better
-
Not to nitpick, but are you planning on changing the shirt textures? He looks a little odd with the BIS civillian black wooly jumper on.
-
If you put "this addmagazine [whatever]" before "this addweapon [whatever]" then the weapon will start off loaded.
-
Pfft. Who needs tents when you can cam your WMIK up and sleep in that instead?
-
Wow, that is absolutely amazing- and here was me, thinking that terrain as realistic as that in OFP would never be done

Fuckalicious?

As a humble dickhead beta tester, I can vouch for UKF if they say that some of the things they've have in the works will rock your socks off

1916 by Motörhead 16 years old when I went to war, To fight for a land fit for heroes, God on my side, and a gun in my hand, Counting my days down to zero, And I marched and I fought and I bled and I died, And I never did get any older, But I knew at the time that a year in the line, Is a long enough life for a soldier, We all volunteered, and we wrote down our names, And we added two years to our ages, Eager for life and ahead of the game, Ready for history´s pages, And we fought and we brawled and we whored ´til we stood, Ten thousand shoulder to shoulder, A thirst for the Hun, we were food for the gun, And that´s what you are when you´re soldiers, I heard my friend cry, and he sank to his knees, Coughing blood as he screamed for his mother, And I fell by his side, and that´s how we died, Clinging like kids to each other, And I lay in the mud and the guts and the blood, And I wept as his body grew colder, And I called for my mother and she never came, Though it wasn´t my fault and I wasn´t to blame, The day not half over and ten thousand slain, And now there´s nobody remembers our names, And that´s how it is for a soldier. Disposable Heroes by Metallica: Bodies fill the fields I see, hungry heroes end No one to play soldier now, no one to pretend running blind through killing fields, bred to kill them all Victim of what said should be a servant `til I fall Soldier boy, made of clay now an empty shell twenty one, only son but he served us well Bred to kill, not to care just do as we say finished here, Greeting Death he's yours to take away Back to the front you will do what I say, when I say Back to the front you will die when I say, you must die Back to the front you coward you servant you blindman Barking of machinegun fire, does nothing to me now sounding of the clock that ticks, get used to it somehow More a man, more stripes you bare, glory seeker trends bodies fill the fields I see the slaughter never ends Soldier boy, made of clay now an empty shell twenty one, only son but he served us well Bred to kill, not to care just do as we say finished here, Greeting Death he's yours to take away Back to the front you will do what I say, when I say Back to the front you will die when I say, you must die Back to the front you coward you servant you blindman Why, Am I dying? Kill, have no fear Lie, live off lying Hell, Hell is here I was born for dying Life planned out before my birth, nothing could I say had no chance to see myself, molded day by day Looking back I realize, nothing have I done left to die with only friend Alone I clench my gun Soldier boy, made of clay now an empty shell twenty one, only son but he served us well Bred to kill, not to care just do as we say finished here, Greeting Death he's yours to take away Back to the front you will do what I say, when I say Back to the front you will die when I say, you must die Back to the front you coward you servant you blindman Back to the front. For Whom The Bell Tolls by Metallica Make his fight on the hill in the early day Constant chill deep inside Shouting gun, on they run through the endless grey On the fight, for they are right, yes, by who's to say? For a hill men would kill, why? They do not know Suffered wounds test there their pride Men of five, still alive through the raging glow Gone insane from the pain that they surely know For whom the bell tolls Time marches on For whom the bell tolls Take a look to the sky just before you die It is the last time you will Blackened roar massive roar fills the crumbling sky Shattered goal fills his soul with a ruthless cry Stranger now, are his eyes, to this mystery He hears the silence so loud Crack of dawn, all is gone except the will to be Now the will see what will be, blinded eyes to see For whom the bell tolls Time marches on For whom the bell tolls

I thought the idea of asking for people's views was to find out what people think of something, not to make out that everyone else is wrong for not agreeing, Phil.

As far as I'm concerned, making addons and missions should be its own reward. If you need money as an incentive to release things to the community... well, your heart mustn't be in it. If your heart's not in something you do in your spare time, what's the point of doing it at all? Charging for addons will only harm the community, not help it. If a new addon is released that is kinda interesting but no big deal, I'd download it for free. If I had to pay for it, I'd probably not bother.

That's a DZ patch, not a unit patch. Simply tells you which para battalion he's from. We have the best capbadges though -
How many of us have ever tried making addon?
stevevcb replied to snypa's topic in ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
I've tried on several occasions. It's bloody hard. -
What he said. It's great to sit in a heavy tank and just shrug off small-callibre AT rounds. I rolled my KV-II right on top of three Panzer IIIs and parked up no more than 50m away, went and made a cup of tea, then came back and knocked them out without a fuss Much better than being in a supposedly modern MBT and being shit scared of some guerilla with a rusty old RPG-7, if you ask me.

That's all well and good, but the gameplay's shallower than an impromptu grave. Rush, Die, Repeat.

Delta Force was one of the first PC games I ever played. Aah, happy memories... baddies that died from a .22 rounds to the toe, going straight from standing to prone with no animation inbetween, blowing palm trees in half with 40mm grenades... What the hell is a voxel, anyway?
-
I played the demo a bit, it's not too bad, but it's not too good either. For the first few rounds I was hooked, trying out every gun, trying the vehicles, calling for artillery. Then I got a bit sick of having to put ten or twenty rounds into someone with my weapon, not knowing whether half of the rounds had actually hit them. Ludicrous, considering that they were heading towards me, I was lying prone, using my sights, putting aimed shots into their chest. Either they were all wearing oven doors under their shirts or my 203's barrel was bent 45 degrees at the end. The main problem I have with BF is the back-and-forth, back-and-forth dynamic. With huge numbers across a massive battlefield, it'd be captivating. With about fifteen guys across a half-mile, it just boils down to which team shoots more. It's not a big deal if you get killed either, because all you do is respawn ten seconds later, run for a minute or so, then get stuck in; if it's not a big deal dying, what's the point in trying to not get shot? Half of the time I found myself getting killed on purpose so I could re-equip with a different weapon, which leads me onto my next point. It's too balanced. I can understand why the developers have made it so, but every weapon handles pretty much the same, does pretty much the same damage (ie. fuck all) and has an enemy counterpart that could well just be a model change. Sure, there are little differences (the Saiga fires faster than the pump-action, the Bizon has a bigger magazine than the MP5), but every weapon's so ineffectual that your choice of kit isn't even a big deal. For a class-based shooter, that's a bit suspect. Maybe OFP's spoiled me. I like it when weapons are realistically modelled, but aren't balanced. If Rifle X has more stopping power than an Rifle Y in real life, so be it. If MG A has a longer effective range than MG B, fair enough. All this does is encourage you to try and overcome the enemy's advantage by altering your tactics. Another thing OFP does better is vehicles. Not so much the handling or simulation, but the fact that they're to be feared. Playing BF2, you see people throwing grenades at T90s. In OFP, people tend to run when a BMP turns up. I'm rambling now, so I'll shut up. I'll pass on BF2. Roll on ArAs!

You know what the difference is between love and war? Well, one involves lots of suffering, misery and psychological pain, and the other one's, well, war.
